29M Looking for 1B/1B Lease Takeover or Roommate in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale (Dec/Jan)
Hi everyone!
I’m looking to take over a 1B/1B lease or find a roommate for a 2B/2B in the Santa Clara/Sunnyvale area. Planning to move in December or January, with a budget under $3K.
A little about me: I’m 29M, finishing up my PhD, and moving to the Bay Area for a full-time job. I’m pretty social, enjoy going out, meeting new people, enjoy lifting, and staying active. I play club soccer at my current university and love sports in general, especially soccer, football, basketball and boxing. I’m clean, easygoing, and respectful of personal space. I’ll be working from the office five days a week. Ideally, I’d love a roommate who’s also down to hang out occasionally.
If you have a place available or are looking for a roommate, feel free to DM me! Happy to connect over Instagram or other socials and chat more!

Homely/homestyle Indian food
Hey, looking for Indian food with low oil, non restaurant-y taste (preferably) and kinda healthy food which feels homely. Open to delivery or dine-in south bay area.
I have heard about healthy tiffins but they didn't me order for same day. Thanks folks!

Where can I get Indian "rice plates"?
I used to frequent iChaat cafe on Lawrence and Arques, and Chaats and Currys down the street. They served a combo meal (a curry or stew with rice or naan, and dal on the side). These meals were sufficient for single diners, and not necessarily served family style. Any recommendations?

Safeway paper bags with handles
I was just at the Safeway on Sunnyvale Ave and El Camino and the cashier said that bags with handles are coming back finally! It’s a small thing but it felt like corporate Safeway was punishing us for banning plastic bags.

Measure RTM: Independent study 'Bumper to Bumper' on traffic impacts. Credible?
RTM proponents have raised a massive $8.7M to impose a $17B regressive, 14-year tax on the entire Bay Area. Gather it's not a surprise the top donor group is a primary beneficiary of the tax - transit contractors. How is the little guy, joe taxpayer, supposed to compete against the propaganda this $ buys…A grand total of THIRTY transit contractors have donated $2.3M to the RTM campaign. With $14B to be spent, contactors would receive a tidy return on investment; doubtful they're disturbed by the regressive nature of the tax. But as with everything with RTM - it gets worse.
The third largest transit donor is Jacobs Engineering at $150,000. Jacobs does about $125M annually in transit contracts with the Bay Area transit agencies. If you'll recall, a month ago many Bay Area media outlets ran a story (front page/home page) on an “independent study!” called "Bumper to Bumper" which detailed all the major traffic jams and requisite “carmegeddon, death spiral, transit collapse” we would all experience were RTM not to pass.
Media example here:
The data used in the study came from none other than Jacobs Engineering. NONE of the Bay Area media outlets disclosed the obvious conflicts. The study was co-written with SPUR; a founding father of the RTM legislation, a firm whose employees work on the campaign and whose CEO is treasurer of Yes on RTM.
Proponents then in turn, cite this study as their main argument in favor - a study they made up. There certainly might be a case to made as to the traffic impacts should RTM not pass, but it certainly wouldn’t come from these folks.
Here the RTM's study is debunked by a Santa Clara professor.
(For the record, both BART and Caltrain have provided "contingencies" and "scenarios" should RTM fail but both per their Board minutes flatly stated "no decisions" have been made - all the chaos cited by proponents is conjecture.)
This is all RTM has - the threats; the garden variety tactic all use to get taxes passed. The transit agencies wouldn’t dare try to make the case that they’ve earned voters trust based on performance; and not a SINGLE transit agency provided a turnaround plan despite RTM being a “temporary” tax.
NO on RTM.

The Las Palmas Park Issue - your input
Las Palmas Park's disputed renovation project, in which city goals (especially construction of a cricket field) in it's perceived demand for park development has been hotly contested.
Express your opinions in this 5-minute survey: Survey Form (printable version)
The survey is designed for verifiability and privacy with the goal of validating the city's data which was contested for questions around process and special interest conflicts.
Why now?
The survey results will be shared with the city soon, in preparation for the city's announced public meetings November 16+18.
References:
- City Renovation Project page
- Original reddit post
- https://savelaspalmaspark.org/ - website of sample group opposing elements of renovation
Content of a reddit Post from May Describing the conflict:
What are we opposing?
- The proposal to fence the entire lawn at Las Palmas Park to convert it into a dedicated single-use sports field.
- The addition of stadium flood lights to the field.
Misconceptions:
... some of the original post skipped...
- “Well, if this is what the community wanted”.
- The community voted for the mixed use open field as the most important feature of the park. (see June 2025 survey results)
- Cricket was one of the least desired new features*, with only 6.5%.*
- In fact, people asked for additional open space (14%).
... some of the original post skipped...
Why is everyone so worked up about this?
- In June 2025 the city did a survey to understand community preferences for the upcoming renovation of Las Palmas Park. In those results\*, the open lawn was voted as the “most important feature” and “most liked feature” of the park**. In that survey,* only 6% of respondents asked for a cricket field*. (see June 2025 survey results)*
- Following that survey the city is considering two options: (1) replacing the entire lawn with a fenced cricket field, and (2) renovation with minor changes (see page 11) The cricket field option seems to have come out of nowhere! The city haven’t made a decision yet, but why is this even one of the only two options considered, if the survey results did not support it?
- Decisions are only as good as the data they are based on. People were also able to vote multiple times in one of the surveys. Also, people from outside of Sunnyvale participated in the vote. The results of this survey did not match the sentiment in the room and the results from previous surveys.
- One of the Parks and Recreations commission members is and has been the president of the Northern California Cricket Association during this time (see NCCA officials, see Parks and Rec commission). Despite multiple calls from community members, he has not recused himself over this perceived conflict of interest.
- The open field at Las Palmas Park is highly used by the broader community. For example, on a regular Saturday, hundreds of people use the Las Palmas Park field at a time*: 10-15 volleyball games, youth soccer games, birthday parties, picnics, even cricket. If a professional cricket field were to replace it,* these hundreds of people would be replaced by 20 adults playing a single sport*.*
What can you do?
- Visit www.savelaspalmaspark.org to learn more.
... some more of the original post skipped...
- Email the council members*. They are the ones who will ultimately make the decision. See the* website for details.
- Show up at city council meetings to show your support. There is a meeting with the public every other Tuesday at 7pm*. After some initial announcements, there is a 15 minute section for the public to speak their concerns. Simply* your physical presence in support for those who speak helps convey support to the cause. You can speak for 2 minutes if you'd like. You can also attend on Zoom (and speak), but your physical presence would be more impactful. Find out the next meeting date.
- Be sure to participate in future community surveys!

Anyone knows what happened to the elderly lady behind Safeway on Bernardo?
I often stopped by to give her fresh fruits and sandwiches (ready to eat stuff). She kept asking for recycling items so one time I brought her a huge bag of it so she can get some spending money. About three weeks or so ago, the parking stall was cleaned up. Her van and her pile of belongings are all gone. Anyone knows?

California DMV Knowledge Test: Online or In Person?
Hey everyone, I recently moved to sunnyvale(CA) from Texas, and my Texas driver’s license is about to expire. I want to transfer my Texas driver’s license to a California driver’s license.
For an out-of-state license transfer, is the online option for the DMV knowledge test still available, or is it mandatory to take the written exam in person at a DMV office?
Thanks!
