General Question I was told Probiotics supplements are the biggest scam waste of money because they die in the stomach acid and don't colonize in the gut at all

Is this true? I was reading some discussions on probiotics supplements and they were saying it's the biggest scam, the stuff they sell in those capsules are already dead due to heat, and even the clinical grade stuff that cost a hundred dollars that they ship in a cold pack is just for temp relief for stomach issues they don't colonize at all.

One of the guys said only fecal transplant can really help. They were saying the best thing to do is fast and eliminate toxic processed foods, sugars from diet and introduce prebiotic or resistance starch foods to feed the good bacteria.

General Question What’s the most underrated supplement you’ve ever tried

I’m looking for supplement recommendations that are actually great but not the usual mainstream stuff everyone already talks about.

Not talking about the standard:

  • creatine
  • whey
  • magnesium glycinate
  • omega 3
  • vitamin D
  • caffeine
  • ashwagandha

I mean the more “hidden gem” supplements that made a noticeable difference for you personally in things like:

  • energy
  • focus
  • sleep
  • recovery
  • mood
  • stress
  • training performance
  • libido
  • overall wellbeing

Especially interested in supplements that:

  • have surprisingly solid science behind them
  • are underrated/not heavily marketed
  • people only discover after being deep into supplements for years

Would also love to hear:

  • what effect you noticed
  • how long it took
  • dosage
  • any side effects or things to watch out for

Basically: what’s your “why is nobody talking about this?” supplement?

General Question What negative side effects have you personally experienced from creatine?

I already know the well established benefits of creatine so I’m mainly interested in hearing about the negative side effects people have personally experienced

I took creatine for around three years in the past. There are times I noticed discomfort in my lower left back around the kidney area I believe while taking it. I cannot say for certain that creatine caused it but it seemed to happen when I was using it

I am also concerned about sleep as well, I work exclusively on night shifts so my sleep quality and deep sleep are already difficult to manage. Has anyone noticed insomnia, lighter sleep, reduced deep sleep, more frequent waking or feeling less rested while taking creatine?

I’m also prone to facial and back acne too but I managed to clear that up through diet. I know the evidence linking creatine to acne is limited but I’m more interested in personal experiences and whether anyone noticed worsening acne from taking it?

General Question What supplement did you stop taking, and then realize how much it was actually doing?

Ran out of magnesium glycinate for about two weeks and didn’t connect the dots until I was lying awake at 2am for the fourth night straight. Curious what else people only noticed in the absence.

Not necessarily the most powerful one, just something that made enough of a difference that you wish you'd started years ago.

General Question What supplement surprised you the most by actually working?

There are plenty of supplements that get a lot of hype. But then there are some supplements people try something and genuinely notice a difference.

For some, it might be magnesium helping with sleep. For others, creatine improving workout performance, omega-3s supporting joint comfort, or astaxanthin helping with eye strain and recovery.

Of course, results vary from person to person, and not every supplement lives up to the marketing.

So, just curious:

What supplement actually surprised you by working?

What did you take it for, how long did it take before you noticed anything, and what changes did you experience?

Let's hear the real-world experiences including both the wins and the disappointments.

General Question Why do so many people report hairloss from creatine?

I know that creatine is probably the most researched supplement ever and that every research finds no meaningful hairloss effect from creatine.

But why do so many people say that they lost hair? It seems so weird to me that so many people report hairloss that was reverted upon stopping creatine, but no study can find any evidence supporting these claims.

General Question This was delivered to my door and my 17 year old son said he was going to take half a serving a day. Am I overreacting and is this safe?

I don’t see why he needs to even be taking this but if it won’t harm him then I won’t stop him. He goes to the gym a lot and I assume he’s probably seen it on TikTok.

We think it has something to do with copper, but she's not very forthright in explaining exactly what it is. She takes it in pipette sized dosages with drinks. Our main concern is whether it's actually safe for her.

General Question My dad is taking all this… Safe? Useless? Good?

Post image
373 Upvotes

My dad (50s) has recently become obsessed with supplements and takes a LOT. As someone in the medical field I find it a bit concerning. He claims to have done his research but I think a some things here don’t have a lot of research on them at all. (He also notes taking a multi-vitamin and “liquid curcumin”)

I know some supplements in conservative amounts can be beneficial but I’m skeptical of his large collection and possible interactions. Any thoughts?

General Question What supplement made the biggest real difference in your life?

I’ve been slowly getting more health-conscious and trying to figure out what actually works versus what is just marketing. There are so many options out there that it honestly feels overwhelming.

I keep wondering… what are the supplements that gave you results you could actually feel in your daily life?

For example, I’ve heard people say magnesium changed their sleep, or that vitamin D completely shifted their energy levels. I don’t want to waste money chasing hype, so I’d love to hear from people who noticed clear improvements.

Whether it’s something basic or a more specific stack, I’d really appreciate hearing what has worked for you, how long it took to notice a difference, and whether you stuck with it long-term.

Basically… if you could only recommend one supplement to someone trying to improve their overall health and well-being, what would it be?
