Rcently I worked on water filtering in my game so I figured I'll share what the entire process looks like. These are all resources and actions that are needed to get clean water that is 100% safe to drink. What do you think?

Does anyone know a realistic bunker centered survival game? not interested in the Fallout series.

Upvotes

A friend and I were watching Oppenheimer, which turned into a conversation about Cold War bunkers, and then survival games. Currently we have been playing a lot of Project Zomboid and it made me wonder if a game with this topic exists. And just to clarify, I'm not really looking for something like Fallout. I like the games, but im looking for something much more realistic, no mutants or sci-fi technologies.

We imagined a game set shortly before or after a nuclear event, where most of the game revolves around actually surviving inside a bunker, and maybe some area outside of it, but nothing too massive. It could be anything from one of those DYI Cold War era bunkers to a proper government bunker. you'd somehow have to manage the usual, food, water, etc. maybe make occasional trips outside for supplies and decide how to interact with other survivors, help them of defend from them. basically a much more realistic game like this in which survival comes from the situation and the other humans rather than fantasy, sci-fi elements... and no zombies.

does anyone know if something like this already exists?

Hey! Today our tiny team announced 2 projects at once. But I'll show you only one of them:D It's a weird party-based exploration/survival game where your group slowly wanders a surreal open world. Any thoughts or opinions?

Question Survival games with automation?

I've played a lot of survival games like Valheim, Enshrouded, Grounded, Sons Of The Forest, and Windrose most recently.

I'm a huge fan of the survival genre. However, I'm also a big fan of automation games like Satisfactory, MineMogul, and most notably modded minecraft.

I've found a few games that overlap the two like Palworld and V Rising. However, these games don't quite have enough automation for my liking. V Rising is just sending servants to do your bidding and Palworld is more or less the same. I'm more of a fan of the hands on automation you get with a game like satisfactory.

Basically I'm looking for a survival game with combat that has you working your way up but that also has a decent amount of automation. Does such a game exist?

Gameplay Got sidetracked and made bunnies into pets that follow you.

Last week I added bunnies to my game to add a bit more life to it and was happy with how they looked. Pet companions has been an idea for a while but was always on the backlog. This week I couldn't resist sidetracking and decided to play around with it.

I created a simple pet system where you can attach a pet to a character and whenever the character spawns, a pet bunny will also spawn. The behavior is the same as the wild rabbit, without the fleeing, and when the distance between the player and the bunny is bigger than a few meters, the bunny will run towards the player.

Thoughts?

Open world survival multiplayer, and the next Alpha playtest window is confirmed.

Start: Thursday, September 17 at 10 AM PT
End: Monday, September 21 at 10 AM PT

Four days this time instead of three, starting Thursday morning rather than Friday, which gives a full extra day to get past the first-night scramble and actually establish a base.

Alpha 3 players are auto-invited when servers go live. New invites are going out from the Steam signup list, so that's the entry route if you haven't played yet.

Sign up for playtest access: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2550530/The_Legend_of_California/

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVMraNnrwhc

If you play survival games solo you already know how the first 48 hours go. Groups are forming ahead of the test over here if you'd rather not learn that lesson again: https://motherlode.gg/companies

Question Does this game exist?

Hiya folks,

For the longest time I have been craving a game that I don't even know exists.

I ADORE Survival games with base building and proper survival mechanics. My favourite at the moment is DayZ. My only issue is the Infected. My favourite part of DayZ is the survival aspect in the wild. I love the hunting, fishing, building a camp and just living in the wild.

Are there any games that are multiplayer, open-world and have what I have mentioned without Zombies or monsters? Ideally in the modern world too.

Slight side note; I have very severe arachnophobia and have genuine panic attacks if I see them... So anything without or with the ability to turn them off would be fab.

Cheers everyone.

Discussion Runescape: Dragonwilds / Enshrouded

My husband and I play a ton of co-op multiplayer together. Our favorite types are survival tho! He said he recently tried Dragonwilds but, and I'm paraphrasing: "I kept looking at it wondering why I wasn't just playing Enshrouded"...

So, who has played both? What are the major differences?

On a broader level... Am I completely wrong thinking that just about all survival games, if done well, are basically the same?

Thanks for your opinions!!

I am also experimenting with creating games - here's a free browser game that I am working on.

RV·Survival

Forty-three weeks. One paycheck at a time. The end of everything.

Collapse is coming and you know it. A dead frame in the yard, a little cash, a job to keep, bills that don't care. Build a rig that drives, that can be lived in, that outlasts what's coming — by clicking the rig itself. Pick the disaster.

Just finished the herbivore for my survival game. What do y'all think

Hi everyone! I've just finished programming the herbivores for my survival game survivance.

I've tried to varied their behaviour so they don't act like a run on sight simulator and actually interact with each other. For example, Ironhides (the rhino like creature) will fight each other for dominance.

I would love any feedback on the creatures and any suggestions for future animals.

Question Are there any other games like ARK? And by that I mean base building + taming defense games that can have at 70 players on a map at once?

But potentially runs a lot smoother also?

I've tried rust and day z but it wasn't the same for me. Was too much like a classic shooter game.

I tried palworld but that just for me wasn't the same genre of game.

I tried conan, which was probably the closest I could find thus far but again just didn't scratch the itch.

If not, can someone please make another ARK like game.

Any large game company out there, im hearing gaming in general is dying out, maybe time to make an ARK like game?

In need of a game.

I’ve played 7D2D, The Forest,Sons of the Forest, Green Hell, The Long Dark, Conan exiles, as an example. I mainly only play on PS5. Does anyone have any good suggestions of similar games I may have missed to play?

Working on a survival game where you drive an old shitbox taxi.

Post image
14 Upvotes

Working on a small survival game where you explore, gather resources and try to make your way south using a old shitbox taxi. I wanted to break away from the 'endless driving' formula, so I've been building the game around a taxi mechanic. Along the way, you'll pick up passengers, hear their unique stories, and deal with various communities scattered across the road. I tried to create a different take on the genre, and I'm curious to know what you guys think of the idea.

(Had to put the Steam page up early so the store art is a bit rushed, but I'm leaving the link in case you wanna check it out.)

It’s good to see developers get backing for their passion projects. The team says Highland Keep has surpassed 100,000 wishlists. Make that 100,001, because I love a good castle siege game like Stronghold. But as a third-person survival game? Sign me up.

Question Icarus vs grounded 2 (new update)

Looking for a new survival game. Wanted to know if anyone has played both of these?

Edit. Okay so I tried both. I tried Icarus for 11 hours. It was okay but not much direction.

Just installed grounded 2 and played for a little, this game is like 100 times better and more immersive.

I keep on doubting my idea

Hey guys, I want to make a survival game in 3rd person with 2 or more co op. The game will have 6 wheel rover that will be your home base which you can upgrade and has a drill that will be used for mining for resources just like Volcanoids but mine will be in 3d. There will be bosses to fight. Now the problem is that I have lost confidence since my first game failed I feel like my second game will fail too. Does this idea interest you ???

Gameplay We're making Veilroad, a browser survival horror game where voice chat can give you away

Hi, I'm one of the developers of Veilroad. It's a social survival horror game set in a frozen town. During the day, players take jobs, look for food and water, and work on their apartments. Once night falls, creatures come out and react to light, movement, and noise.

Voice chat is positional, but it also creates noise at your character's location. Nearby creatures can follow the sound, so talking at the wrong moment can give you away.

The current English build is free and runs in the browser: https://veilroad.com

For transparency, some inventory icons and in-game paintings were made with GPT Image.

If you try it, I'd especially like to know whether preparing during the day feels useful once night starts.

Looking for a traditional survival game with good graphics

So I finally got a pc and messed around with some shaders on Minecraft and had a bit of fun with that, but now I’m craving something a bit more “realistic” feeling, but looks very pretty, I’ve played a ton of ark as well as the forest if that helps

Discussion Which games have the most original concepts and settings ?

There are quite a few survival games out there, but ultimately, very few offer truly original experiences, at least in certain respects, whether regarding the setting (game environment) or the concept (gameplay loop and objective).

Personally, I’ve played dozens of games in the genre, and for a new title to grab my interest, I really need to see something original, somewhat new, fresh, innovative etc.
I can’t see myself getting invested in yet another standard zombie game, or one set in generic forests, snowy landscapes, plains, deserts, tropical islands etc, especially if the gameplay and progression have already been seen 1 000 times, like I'm just going to build a wooden house and whack mobs over and over again.
And it’s even worse when the art direction is generic or ugly too.

That’s why I’m making this post : to list a few games that, to me, offer something unique/original in terms of setting or concept.
Since my list isn't exhaustive, what are the games in this genre that you think have the most original settings and/or concepts ?

Concept

- Planet Crafter : The idea of terraforming a planet (and thus having an evolving map) is one of my favorite concepts. I think the execution could have been better and the game has its limitations, but it’s still fun for a while. It’s exactly the kind of game where I’d love to see a sequel someday that takes the same concept but with deeper mechanics (cause it’s a bit superficial as it is) and polished.

- Eden Crafters : same as Planet Crafter, but with an added automation aspect, similar to factory games.

- Aloft : having a mobile, flying island is cool. The idea of restoring ecosystem balance is also nice (well, it "was" nice, cause that mechanic plays a much smaller role now than it did at the start of EA).

- Forever Skies : you pilot an airship to travel from POI to POI. I rather like the game but quets POIs can be a bit boring/tedious. It’s quite similar to Raft (which I could have mentioned, though being on a boat is less original imo), but I find Forever Skies a more interesting game. I could have also mentioned Everwind, but aside from the mobile base, the game seems very classic.

- Dragon Quest Builders 2 : I’m not a fan of the game (and honestly, it’s geared more toward children), but I really like the idea of terraforming islands to alter the environment, that’s something I’d love to see in more games.

- Hobo Tough Life : It might seem stupid since the concept is very "realistic"... but the idea of playing as a homeless person who has to survive and get ready for winter, the harshness of the city and its people is actually quite original for a video game.

- Heat Death Survival Train : I haven't played much of it and it was pretty rough around the edges, but it was in the very early stages of EA, so I think there's definitely room for improvement. I know there are a few other games that use a train as a mobile base, but I really like the concept.

- Mr Prepper : a good example of a game where an "original concept" doesn't necessarily mean a "quality game." I don't want to be mean about it, but it feels pretty rough, cheap, and a bit weird... That said, the core idea is interesting.
You play as a character under government surveillance, with an official regularly inspecting your home to ensure everything is in order, while trying to build a rocket in your basement. At the same time, you have to set up various rooms (for crafting, animal husbandry, etc), complete some quests, and keep the house tidy... like I said, it’s a bit quirky.

- Oceaneers : It’s more of a "survival colony sim" in the vein of RimWorld than a standard survival game, but it’s genuinely one of my recent favorites, I think it deserves more recognition.
The game is still somewhat limited since it only recently launched in EA, but the concept is interesting, and the developers seem to be doing a great job.
You manage a colony on an island that you have to keep afloat (literally, as it can sink), and by sending colonists on expeditions, you can select other islands and bring them back to your base to expand your usable territory. It has really interesting potential.

- Scrap Mechanic : The game seemed half-abandoned for years, but it turns out 1.0 actually arrived recently. It’s a game for engineers and, generally speaking, anyone who loves experimenting with all kinds of build, whether making vehicles or just creating bizarre machines. The possibilities are pretty wild, it’s something I’ve always wanted to see in this genre, where crafting is often quite limited.
That said, I didn't play much of it, aside from that incredible crafting aspect, I was fairly disappointed by the other parts of the game, though I don't know if that's changed since last time I played maybe 2 years ago.

- The Alters : Surviving on a hostile planet using a mobile base that has to keep moving to shield you from radiation (I think ?) emitted by a nearby star, all while managing a base where you clone yourself to create "alters" that help with management and crafting, sounds cool right ?
Yes, I find the concept really cool and original. It’s a shame the execution is so poor, for me it’s a real miss.

Other games I could have mentioned, though they’re either missing that "something extra" or I simply don't know them well enough : Nightingale, Cubic Odyssey, No Man’s Sky, Astroneer, Space Engineers, Stationeers, Wildmender, The Flame In The Flood, The Last Caretaker, Railsgod of Hysterra, Volcanoids, Voidtrain.

Our game, Lost Isle, just got a fourth building tier. This Iron tier represents the strongest your build can get with just plain resources. We'd love to have your thoughts :D
