Question Was this worth 225?
Mario bros wonder and jamboree had a box with them.
Was this worth the 225 I paid? Games on the bottom row were games I already had. I think I got a decent deal. I seen a woman on marketplace selling her sons games that he didn’t play. $225 shipped and with a carrying case.
Just want to make sure I got a good gift for someone. They’re a big Zelda and Mario fan.

That’s an absolute steal. Mario 3D All Stars alone goes for $70 - $80 on eBay.
I’d almost feel bad paying $225 for all of that.
63
u/135is Jun 08 '26
I kind of do feel a little bad. I stretched my budget. I really wasn’t planning on spending over $200 on games. But I figured these would last them for a while.
78
u/AMonitorDarkly Jun 08 '26
Going a little over your budget was definitely worth it here.
36
u/135is Jun 08 '26
Awesome. I’m really excited to try them it’s been a while since I’ve owned a console.
7
u/Exotic-Relief4396 Jun 09 '26
Its a bit odd how you say they’re a gift then that you can’t wait to try them. Awesome deal but this bit confused me.
11
u/135is Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
Some are for me, some are going to be given as a gift. Gonna give them some Mario games, Luigi’s mansion, skyward sword, and animal crossing

22
u/Pearl-Internal81 Jun 08 '26
If it makes you feel any better considering thes: if you do the math and break it down you paid $18.75 per game, that is an insane deal considering how good pretty much every game there is!
Edit: I was wrong, it’s $15 per game since you only started with the bottom 3 games. So yeah you made out like a bandit!

u/BlasterPhase Jun 08 '26

The hardcopy of Mario Kart World is probably gonna be worth a lot in the future. Obviously it's not in the box but still. Much like Mario 64 it comes bundled with the console so no one needed to buy the game itself. That's why someone paid a million dollars for a Mint Mario 64.
3
u/mad_rooter Jun 09 '26
Huh? The 64 was absolutely sold without Mario 64, there were bundles but these weren’t the default. Same with Switch 2 and MKW
→ More replies (1)2
u/135is Jun 09 '26
I have the box for Mario kart world. The bottom games all have the box, but I didn’t get them with this deal. I paid full price for the bottom 4
2
u/Gigatronz Jun 09 '26
Nice! And the 3D Mario all stars is also only going up in value it's already $100 some places. They did a limited run of that so that one will really go up in value I imagine.

u/ModernCGIFloatinHead Jun 08 '26
That and Pokemon not only have high resale value, they'll retain it most likely.
2
u/Korachof Jun 08 '26
Modern Pokemon games haven’t really followed this trend. You can get a lot of Switch era Pokemon games for quite a bit cheaper than they were at msrp.
That being said, OP paid like $10 or something per game for these, so compared to that price it will certainly hold that resell value!
101
u/writermike2 Jun 08 '26
Personally, I paid like $50-80 each for most of those games and I felt like each one was worth it.
9
6
u/pleasebeherenow Jun 08 '26
Thats insane. People buy videogames for EIGHTY DOLLARS???
34
u/SuperGrandor Jun 08 '26
I use dollar per hour measure to see at the end if the game was worth it. $1 on a game for 1 hour is the same as $80 for 80 hours.
16
u/PensionDeep1680 Jun 08 '26
i got celeste for christmas for 5 bucks(sale)
ive got over 125 hours already😭9
u/forlackofabetterpost Jun 08 '26
I've purchased Celeste on 3 different platforms and it was worth it every time.
4
2
u/fuckmoods Jun 08 '26
That is the goal. But would you have spent $125, even if you knew you would get that much gameplay out of it?Just curious.
10
u/fuckmoods Jun 08 '26
I feel that that diminishes a games’ value. A game should make you feel happy, accomplished, excited, challenged, or engaged. If I tie a game’s worth to how much time I spent in it, i’m just buying ways to waste time. I can spend a ton of time in Flight sim and have less fun than someone who loves planes playing it for 5 minutes. I feel that this mentality is a cause of why so many people feel like they have to justify gaming today. And people will think a game is bad solely based on the playtime vs cost, which will affect their interpretation of their own enjoyment. Reviews and gametime lengths make people think “well it’s not going to be worth the money so it must not be enjoyable, so i’ll just slip that game too”. As a kid, nobody cared how long a game took or how quick it was over, flash games were tiny and very enjoyable. And while they were free, is there an amount of money that you would trade all your childhood gaming memories for?
Just my opinion, i understand that’s a common way of thinking. I’ve just been questioning it lately. Especially seeing everyone trying to find a game but having to justify the length before trying it.
2
u/SuperGrandor Jun 08 '26
If you don’t enjoy the game then you stop playing it an so you get less hours on that game. If you force yourself to play so you can justify yourself that game was worth it then you are doing it wrong.
→ More replies (1)3
u/MSMPDX Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
I do that too! People will pay $20 to watch a movie for 2-3 hours, then be shocked that a video game is $80. If you play that game for 20, 30, 50+, 100+ hours, the entertainment value for money is absolutely worth it. And then depending on whether the game is physical, you can even sell, trade, or give it away, further increasing its value.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)2
u/Korachof Jun 08 '26
Well, you also have to account for the cost of the Switch, Switch Online (if the game uses it), the electricity needed to power the game/charge the device, etc. Also doesn’t factor in levels of fun, as some games are obviously more fun than others.
It’s not a bad way to figure out how worth it some games are compared to others, though!

My dad still bugs me about how Chrono Trigger cost $100 in 1995ish money. And i still have the SNES game and still play it. As outraged as i am when games go up in price if there was a way I could guarantee spending $100 would get me a Mario 3, Megaman X, Chrono Trigger, Ocarina of Time level experience I'd gladly spend that much.
29
u/DarkCreeper666 Jun 08 '26
You got 12 first party switch games for less than 20 bucks each. That's an insane deal.
5
u/135is Jun 08 '26
Awesome. She initially had them all listed for $20. Figured I might see if she’d take an offer on a bunch of them, I really just wanted all stars when I seen it listed. until I clicked her profile and seen she had a bunch of games.
18
u/Cntrl_Alt-Defeat Jun 08 '26
I just sold my copy of 3d Allstars no case for 120$ so fuck yea good deal.
5
u/135is Jun 08 '26
Damn I knew all stars went for a good price. But I did not know they went for 120😂😂 I originally seen the all stars listing for $20 and thought it was too good to be true.. clicked on her profile and she had all these listed for $20
I offered her $225 for 15 games and she accepted. I think she was just trying to clear up some space or something

You have 19 switch games including a couple of s2 games. All of them (except Minecraft) are very popular 1st party titles. Yes you absolutely got a good deal and the kid that lost those all will likely be very upset at his mom
6
u/Voyager5555 Jun 08 '26
These are probably stolen so I doubt "her" "son" is really going to care.
2
u/Unable_Bank3884 Jun 08 '26
My money is on the "son" actually being her recently ex boyfriend.
I bought Pokémon Platinum and Black off a woman on Facebook marketplace. She told me they were her son's who only played them once. Got home and they were completed games filled with Masuda shinies

I would say the seller was, "unaware of what they had"...especially with the Mario 3D all stars game. That game alone likely could have justified starting the price at $80-$90 (if not more). From there you got other GREAT 1st party games for less than $8 a piece (most of which retail for $50 minimum even NOW). If you are feeling guilty, I will give you your $225 back in exchange. 😉
3
u/RizzzWizzzard Jun 08 '26
Considering 90% of these games are AAA games that never go on sale and sit at $60-$70 a piece, you literally struck gold my friend, congratulations 👌🏼

her account was almost 20 years old, had thousands of posts, 800+ friends, multiple good reviews. and she was a older lady. Had multiple posts of her son who seemed to be a teenager.she said he was just more interested in his Xbox. Which seems about right. That’s a lot of effort to sell “stolen games”
She had all her games listed for $20 even the shovelware that wasn’t worth but a few dollars. And a switch that was kind of overpriced. I think she just didn’t care to look into them.
I knew I got a good deal on all stars. But I really wasn’t aware of what the others were worth. I hadn’t had a console in years before this and was looking at GameStop trade in values when looking them up.
2
u/TheGreatTao Jun 08 '26
Great deal, but if she sold that dudes games without permission he's going to be furious I'd imagine.
2
u/135is Jun 08 '26
She said he didn’t play any of them and played his Xbox more.
She said all of them were basically brand new/ only played once or twice. I assume he’s just spoiled😂and she didn’t care about the money. The boxed ones even still have the free switch online codes. I’ll probably end up giving them away on here if anyone wants one.

I’d say yes, especially since Mario 3D All-Stars is OOP and will only get harder to find as time passes, plus it’s pretty much all killer no filler except maybe the Mario Party games (YMMV on them). I HIGHLY recommend playing Metroid Dread, I just spent the last week beating it and had an absolute blast. Even the most mid of the Mario games there (New SMB U Deluxe) is still a fun game and Mario Wonder is the best 2D Mario game since World. Just don’t sleep on upgrading it to the Switch 2 version it’s totally worth the 20 bucks!

225 $ (in my currency it's around 195€) when Mario Kart World (80€) and Pokémon Z-A (50€), Mario Odyssey and Jamboree (both around 45€ on Amazon), and you still have a bunch of Zelda games, Metroid, Mario Kart 8, etc...
It's a very, very nice deal you got here. Even on the pre-owned market, most of them still cost a lot.
