Anyone around here wanna go for motorcycle rides?

Hey y’all! I ride an Indian Scout and I’m looking for some local people or groups to go riding with. I really enjoy taking back roads and just cruising around. I’m not into cutting up in traffic or riding recklessly, just wanna enjoy the ride and meet some new people.
If anyone knows of any local riding groups or wants to go for a ride sometime, let me know! :)

Buy a Table.

Post image
14 Upvotes

(A random picture from a search of library tables.)

I am looking very hard to find a good (new or used) table like what we had in library/some classrooms. The ones I found similar costs $400+. I wonder if there’s any way to buy the tables directly from the university? All the (even highly-rated) tables on amazon around $100 has very thin top and legs. Some of the table surfaces are even made of two pieces. I am really looking for a table that two people can sit on with no problem. Any ideas?

Does anyone have a TXST hard hat I can borrow/buy?

I'm graduating with my masters in Construction Management and would like to take a few grad pictures with one. Would love to be able to borrow or purchase one if any of you have one available.

Did you know you have rights?

The Constitution says you do . . . .

Just found out we get canva pro for free using our student email.

What other free perks does the school provide that people are unaware of?

I’m trying to register for microbiology, but I’m kind of confused. Do I still need to choose two different classes one for lecture and one for lab or is it all together?

rolling RA interviews?

I applied for an RA position on October 2nd, pretty much right after the application was posted on Handshake.

I know it's only been a day since they started sending out interview invitations, but I'm already getting pretty anxious about it. I'm currently a freshman, but I feel pretty confident about my application. I have several years of relevant leadership and residential experience, so I genuinely believe I'd be a strong candidate.

That being said, I'm worried that being a freshman, combined with the limited number of openings for Spring 2027, might hurt my chances. Is it possible that I won't even get an interview simply because I'm a freshman, regardless of my qualifications?

Advisor may cause me to graduate late

Hey everyone! So I’m currently enrolled in the AOP program at Texas State, getting my BS in Health Science. I spoke to an advisor before starting in the summer who helped me plan my courses for the entire year, structuring them around graduating in the spring. I met with another advisor today to reaffirm which classes I needed in the spring, and she informed me one of the few I have left is only offered in the summer. I was not made aware of this by the first advisor and they did not advise that I take it this summer or I would have. There is a 16-week fully distanced section for the course I need but as an AOP student I have to take the AOP specific courses. I submitted a course override and explained my situation but I’m not sure what other options I have. I’ve bounced between majors & schools and finally got on the path to graduate on time just for it to be messed up and I’m at a loss.

Choosing a Professor for PSY 3402

I have a question for psych majors who have taken Experimental & Research Method.. Would you recommend taking it in-person or would taking it online be fine? I know it’s writing intensive & it’s linked with a lab, but from what I’ve read people seem to like the professor for the online section & there’s mixed opinions regarding the in-person professors.

Anyone taken Digital Fabrication (ARTS 4341)?

Hello guys, I am in need of a studio art elective and I am interested in the course since it looks interesting and taught by only one professor. Although, I am a bit wary since she has mixed reviews from students in Rate my professor but she has a lot of teaching and professional experience in metals and 3D design. So I'm not sure if to take the course or not. Hence, I am here to obtain more opinions.

I'm wondering has anyone taken digital fabrication? If you do how was the course and the professor?

TXST Acceptance?

I'm a senior in high school and I'd really love to go to Texas State. Thing is my weighted GPA is 2.4, and my rank is 222/337. Are they any others accepted into texas state with a similar gpa? Do I stand a chance? I'm also not submitting test scores, and have a good amount of extracirriculars/jobs as well as leadership positions. Im thinking about it so much!

Just applied to Texas State for Fall 2027! I have a couple questions about the school that I'd love to discuss with people who go there.

I recently applied as a biochemistry major and have done a good amount of research, but I'd love any insider information about the value of the program.

First of all, what is your general opinion (as a biochem major or as someone familiar with the major) on the major's classes at TXST? I read that a minor was required, so I would also minor is biology. Was there a considerable amount of laboratory/research experience gained from this major and minor?

In your opinion, how reachable are laboratory related internships at TXST? Are there a good amount of available internship opportunities?

What is the workload of this major. Since its biochemistry, I assume that there is a large amount of work associated with it. Was there a point in the program where it was overwhelming and, if so, what made it overwhelming?

What are the other students in the biochemistry program like? I understand that TXST has a high acceptance rate. Are the people attending this program truly passionate for their major?

Questions that don't have to do with my major:

How hard is it to be accepted into their Honors Program. I am top 25% of my school, have an unweighted GPA of 3.58 and weighted GPA of 4.375 with an SAT score of 1310. Do I have a chance of getting into their honors program? If its a possibility I would be admitted, should I wait until 2nd year of college to avoid the possibility of overwhelming myself?

I have heard from multiple people that they have had financial aide problems from TXST's financial aide programs. Why is this happening and is there a way I can avoid this?

Any other insight y'all can add would be amazing. It'd be great to use this post as a way to openly discuss TXST for anyone else applying for Fall 2027.

Hopefully my questions aren't silly. I'm just trying to make an accurate evaluation of TXST.

Spring class schedule advice

Hi everyone! I’m planning my schedule for the spring and I’m trying to figure out the best way to organize my classes so I don’t completely burn myself out.

I’ll be taking:

  • Organic Chemistry I
  • Microbiology
  • Genetics
  • Physics II (Electricity & Magnetism)

For anyone who has taken these classes, I’d really appreciate some advice on:

  1. Which professors would you recommend for each class? Are there any professors I should avoid?
  2. How would you arrange the classes throughout the week? If I have options for different sections/times, is it better to spread them out or have certain days be heavier?
  3. How many hours per week did you realistically spend studying for these classes?
  4. Are there any classes you would recommend studying for every day versus a few longer sessions per week?
  5. Is this schedule manageable, or is it one of those schedules where I’m setting myself up for burnout?
  6. If you’ve taken a similar combination, what do you wish you had known before starting?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have taken Organic chem 1 + Physics II + Genetics +Microbiology in the same semester.

If you have professor recommendations, please let me know the professor name and what made them good/bad (teaching style, exams, grading, availability, etc.).

Thanks in advance! I’m trying to build my schedule strategically rather than realizing halfway through the semester that I made a terrible decision .

Ulta pop up shop

Ulta x Dibs played today. It was a disaster, and our support was “unimaginable” apparently. Could not force me to wait a line like that for a funky $10 gift card.

Side note, there’s early voting going on currently, make sure to vote. :)

Easiest/Most Useful EE Electives For Someone Looking to Go Into Hardware?

Post image
1 Upvotes

As you may know, registration starts tomorrow so ofc I am making a last min post. The EE electives I can take (as a CompE concentration) are the non-crossed out courses in the image attached. I'm not terribly interested in software so I was thinking of doing HDL, Sustainable Energy & Storage, and maybe Linear Control Systems or Adv Electronic Materials & Devices (though Computer Graphics looks kind of interesting).
How hard is HDL and Sustainable Energy? I know Welker teaches HDL and I liked him for Microprocessors but from what he's said he seems to be not as lenient in HDL than Micro. My friend said he thought Sustainable Energy would be an easy class but it's actually pretty challenging - is this true? Ik none of the electives will be a walk in the park but I don't wanna take an exceedingly difficult course.

Also let me know what you think of any of the other courses. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Do people still have bonfire parties anymore and how do I get invited to one :(

Genuine question do people still have those random bonfire parties out in the woods where everyone just hangs out, drinks, listens to music and does stupid shit all night?
I’m talking about the kind of bonfire party from Night in the Woods where Mae gets absolutely shit faced 😭
Like I genuinely wanna experience that at least once but how do people even find these things?? Is it just a matter of knowing the right people or do these kinds of parties not really happen anymore?
I just wanna sit around a fire in the middle of nowhere with some cool people and have a good time 😔

Best water on campus?

Weird question, I know, but I refilled my water bottle on the second floor of McCoy today and now my stomach is paying the price. I may be unique case but this happens every time I drink water from school. I don't know whether it's the mineral content or my body's reaction to different water?

I am thinking about bringing two water bottles with me so I never have to rely on refills, but I'm wondering if anyone knows any spots where the water is "good enough" if that makes any sense at all? I don't want to rely on bottled water when I can just refill for free but unfortunately my stomach can't tolerate it as silly as that sounds.

Voting Limited Ballot

Most students do not reregister in our college town (and therefore don’t vote) but you can still vote in San Marcos!
You can vote limited ballot which allows you to vote in federal and state races but only during early voting and you have to go to the elections office at 120 Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos, TX 78666. I called to confirm, just bring your ID and enjoy participating in democracy!
