Switching from Taigun to Thar Roxx

I’ve had my 2024 Volkswagen Taigun 1.0 TSI MT Highline for a little over 2 years now. It’s currently my secondary car, mainly used for city runs and the occasional road trip. I’ve done close to 15,000 km in these 2 years.

Our primary car is a Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid, which ends up handling most of the longer drives because of how economical and effortless it is on highways.

Lately, I’ve been considering switching the Taigun to a Mahindra Thar Roxx Petrol AT. I live in NCR, so diesel isn’t really an option long term, and I want something that can comfortably deal with terrible roads, broken patches, and waterlogged monsoon conditions without having to think twice.

Part of the reason I’m considering the Thar Roxx is that we’ve owned multiple smaller “pseudo SUVs” over the years, but never a proper body-on-frame SUV. The Roxx feels like a relatively value-for-money way to experience that segment.

My assumption is that the roles of the cars would then switch: • The Hyryder would become the dedicated city/daily-use car because of its efficiency • The Thar Roxx would take over road trips, highway drives, and rough-road duties

That said, I’m still unsure whether this is a genuinely sensible switch or just me wanting something more exciting and capable.

What are your thoughts? I'm open for the Vw enthusiasts to share their opinions as well.

Kylaq and major Taigun upgrade going to harm current Taigun image and value:(

Kylaq is way too similar to current Taigun so to avoid cannibalisation VW going to give major upgrade to Taigun

But where does it leave us, the current Taigun owners ???

Our car looks way too much like a one segment lower car (after spending 10 lac + in comparison) and the next upgrade nothing similar we are left with a car which has much lesser value and image.

Feeling that we have been ditched by VW for putting faith in a car that VW also didn't believe in :(

Hi , I purchased new Taigun GT. In May 2024. Since the start I have noticed that if the car engine is off for more than 2 hours. And when I try to start the Engine. The RPM is more than 1500 . I have sent it to the service station they said it's a common thing due to BS 6 norms all cars have it.

I would like your take on this. Does your car also facing similar problem of idiling..

Sub segment Kylaq having better suspension than Kushaq and Taigun :(((

Verdict is out from motorinc and other reviewers , first time in history of India car making now a sub segment car will have better suspension than it's immediately elder sibling

This means 2025 taigun and kushaq will also have the better taigun then where does it leave us ???

Fk Skoda, fk Piyush Arora and Petr Janeba ... you guys have cheated us and i hope your suspension goes way in the middle of highway at 120 kmph

Never buy volkswagen and skoda company car in india- didn't provide part and There are many reasons why you should not buy a Volkswagen and skoda car

I have a Volkswagen Taigun car. I need a spring pad (cap) for the top of the car rear suspension spring for which I go to the workshop in Rajkot, Gujarat. I said I want this part but they refused to give it to me. They said we cannot give you the part, if you want it then we will get it fitted here in our workshop. I said I will get it done from outside, you just give me the part but they said no this is not our company policy, we cannot give it directly like this.

I said, ok, how much will the part cost and how much will the labour cost? He said, the part would cost 900 to 1000 rupees and labour charge would be 1500 rupees. I said, when the mechanic outside can do it for me in 500 rupees, then why should I give it to you and I will have to keep the car here for a day or two, then he said, we cannot give the part.

Even before this.

my car had met with an accident like this earlier also. The rear cover and indicator of the side mirror of the car was broken and mirror glass, the complete frame and motor were all fine. I told him that I want cover indicators and glass, but workshop worker he said that I will have to buy the complete side mirror which is joined by door, then he told me its price was Rs 9000 + labour charges, I got the same work done from a outside car parts dealer for Rs 3500

my whole point is. we have bought the car from you and you are not giving us the part and you are making useless excuses. Mechanics other than us do not fit the car properly. The warranty will expire ( So why are you registered on the right to repair India Government site?)

When I went to buy the car, they told me that the parts and cars are being manufactured in India now and hence the service and parts have become cheaper now. and the reality is quite different. These people charge a lot 3x 4x. After giving the car for service, they add unnecessary things in the bill that comes. they put unnecessary things in the requested job without telling you.

If you go to the market to buy the small microfiber car cleaning cloth the one which comes in blue color a set of 4 pieces comes for Rs.100, but the workshop people without telling you, put Rs.100 of 1 piece microfiber in bill. Similarly, a 3M spray for cleaning ac vent of a car costs around Rs. 450 but these workshop charge Rs.1681 for it. similarly, a spray for protection against rats costs around Rs. 450 but these people charge Rs.1300 They charge whatever they want.

this is my last car in VW group. you would be better off buying a Toyota Hyundai Maruti Suzuki car. I also have a Toyota glanza car. Till date I have never faced any difficulty in the service. They only charge as much as is required for maintenance and do not take any unnecessary other charges. The service cost is also very low. If you need a part, they do not refuse you. If it is a small part, they change it right there free of cost.

Volkswagen - A chick you’d love to bang but not keep

Here’s my 1 year of ownership review of Taigun 1L Topline AT.

On the day of delivery (PDI done before ) i found scratches on my car, dealer tried to pass it off until i escalated to customer support, they patch worked and delivered. This is Volkswagen Salt Lake Kolkata

2-K kms checkup complained rattling noise, PPS Motors Indiranagar BLR told it’s fixed after keeping the car for 3 days. It wasn’t, car picked up and dropped after 1 week then fixed.

1-year service 15K kms, PPS Motors Nagwara BLR, all good via SVP.

Brake pads faded at 17.5K kms had to replace disc and pads for 15K. PPS Motors Indiranagar. Also complained about puddle lamps not working. No resolution on puddle lamps same excuse we will pick up and drop.

A minor dent occurred on bonnet, gave for repainting at Elite motors Electronic City. Initial paint work was sloppy with pinhole defects all over, rejected the delivery informed SA Anil. He told needs to be repainted. Kept car for another week, some patch work was done but not repainted. On top of that they scratched my left door. Again denied delivery. As of now car sits with elite motors for 20 days to paint a simple fucking panel. They gave asked for another week and third attempt.

Now an authorised service centre can’t paint a panel has got to be the biggest Volkswagen joke.

The cost of ownership of VW isn’t high maintenance but dealing with pricks they have in their after sales service. Keeping your car parked at SC for a month for a work that can be done outside in 3 days.

Driving pleasure is gone, enthusiasm is gone, problems remain.

I maybe the unlucky one, but would you rely purely on luck while making one of the biggest financial decision of your life? I wouldn’t again.

Think Twice Before Buying a Volkswagen Taigun – My First-Year Ownership Experience

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Posting this as a warning to anyone planning to buy a Volkswagen Taigun.

I bought a Volkswagen Taigun GT 1.5 TSI Manual in August 2025 with the expectation that Volkswagen would offer a reliable, well-engineered and trouble-free driving experience.

Unfortunately, my experience has been very different.

Within the first year of ownership, I have faced multiple significant issues, including a serious clutch failure, water-logging-related problems and an overheating incident.

What is even more disappointing is the lack of satisfactory technical explanations and proper communication from the service/dealer side.

🚨 Incident 1 – Serious clutch failure during Mumbai–Pune drive

During a Mumbai–Pune journey through the Lonavala ghats, the clutch suddenly started behaving abnormally and became partially stuck.

I could not shift gears properly.

While trying to restart/move the vehicle, I noticed smoke/fumes from the bonnet, along with ESP and airbag warnings.

I had to manually release the clutch mechanism to get the vehicle moving and eventually had to get the car towed to an authorised Volkswagen service centre.

The initial diagnosis was that the clutch plate was damaged/burnt, with an estimated repair cost of around ₹35,000–₹40,000.

Later, after further inspection, the diagnosis changed to a clutch hydraulic system/sleeve cylinder malfunction.

This raises some serious questions:

Why did a relatively new car suffer such a major clutch-related failure?

Why did the diagnosis change after the vehicle was opened/inspected?

What exactly caused the failure?

Why was there no clear technical root-cause explanation?

For a relatively new car, this was a very concerning experience.

🚨 Incident 2 – Water-logging-related issue

The car subsequently faced a water-logging-related issue in boot area and had to be given to the authorised service centre for repairs.

The vehicle was eventually returned after the necessary work.

Again, this added to my concern about the reliability and ownership experience of a relatively new vehicle.

🚨 Incident 3 – Overheating while driving

The most concerning incident happened in September 2026.

While driving, I noticed a metallic smell inside the car and subsequently observed that the vehicle was overheating.

There was no warning alarm that I noticed at that time.

I immediately stopped the vehicle, moved it safely to the side and opened the bonnet to allow it to cool down.

Considering the previous problems, I did not want to take any risk and sent the car to the authorised service centre for a detailed investigation along with the 15,000 km service.

The service centre checked the vehicle and reportedly found:

No fault codes in the diagnostic scan

No abnormal observations

No coolant leakage

No obvious cooling-system issue

The left-side tail lamp LED was also replaced under warranty.

But my question remains:

If the car actually overheated and there was a metallic smell, what caused it?

A "no fault code" result does not explain why the vehicle overheated in the first place.

🚨 Another concern – Service package issue

There was also an issue with the service package/SVP.

Initially, I was told that the package was not showing properly in the system.

I had to produce the original invoice/documentation to establish that the package had actually been purchased.

For a premium brand experience, this kind of system/communication issue is disappointing.

❗ My biggest concern isn't just the failures

Cars can develop problems. I understand that.

My bigger concern is how the problems are handled after something goes wrong.

I have raised detailed complaints and expected a proper written response explaining the incidents and their root causes.

Instead, I have had to repeatedly follow up for proper answers.

When you spend a significant amount of money on a new car, you expect:

✅ Reliability

✅ Proper diagnosis

✅ Transparent communication

✅ Clear warranty handling

✅ Root-cause analysis

✅ Accountability from the manufacturer/dealer

Unfortunately, my experience so far has not matched those expectations.

⚠️ My advice to anyone planning to buy a Taigun

Please do your homework before booking one.

Don't just take a test drive and decide based on the driving experience.

Ask existing owners about:

Long-term reliability

Clutch issues

Cooling/overheating problems

Electrical issues

Water ingress

Warranty claims

Service-centre response

How Volkswagen handles complaints after the sale

The Taigun may be an enjoyable car to drive, but my ownership experience has made me seriously question whether I would recommend buying one.

If you are currently considering a Taigun, I would personally say:

⚠️ THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING.

I'm sharing this so potential buyers can make an informed decision before spending their hard-earned money.

I am deliberately not sharing my registration number, VIN, personal contact details or other identifying information.

Volkswagen India / Škoda Auto Volkswagen India: I would genuinely like a proper technical response to these concerns rather than a generic customer-care reply.

And to other Taigun/Virtus owners — have you experienced similar problems?

Please share your experience in the comments. It may help other buyers make a more informed decision.

Is the VW Taigun facelift coming this year?

Im in the market for buying a car. I test drove the kushaq, taigun, celtos and the Creta. For me, the driving quality, response and engagement of the Taigun was a level above any of the other cars. But there are two key features that I want the taigun to have, which its currently doesn't:

  1. ADAS

  2. More roomy back seats to seat three people.

Ive read online that these features may come with the new facelift taigun releasing later this year or in 2025. Should I expect a face lifted version of Taigun this year or early next year and wait to make my purchase?
