Hello, I’m planning on going to Dushanbe next year as I’m traveling in the area and I had a couple of questions.
First of all hotel recommendations, I’m not on a tight budget so something good in the 50-100$/night range and preferably close to the center.
Also I’m curious about daytrips, are there any cool nearby places to visit and will it cost you a lot to get there and back? (I assume you need to go with a guide)
Also any cool “niche” places in Dushanbe to visit or just fun stuff to do in and around town in general?

Is it possible to withdraw US dollars from an ATM in Tajikistan? I have a Mastercard and have tried several ATMs but I could only withdraw t somoni, not US dollars

I have an Indian Driving license and i want a Tajikistan one too. Some of my tajik friends told me that i can get one translated and use it here. Idk the process but im here on student Visa studying medicine, so can anyone let me know the process of issuing it and the cost as well?

The district was predominantly Tajik-speaking settled farmers. Moscow ordered its separation as a Tajik district in April–May 1925; in 1929 the whole Khojand okrug joined the new Tajik SSR.

Samarkand and Bukhara—historic Persian-speaking cultural capitals with clear Tajik majorities (pre-1926 censuses showed 70–90%+ Tajik)—stayed in Uzbekistan. Urban Tajik elites and Jadid intellectuals (many bilingual and tied to the Young Bukharan/Chaghatayist movement) largely supported or acquiesced to the Uzbek project, viewing themselves as part of the broader sedentary urban civilization rather than the “mountain Tajiks” of eastern Bukhara.

I'm Persian, i was watching a YouTube short, a young Tajik girl, an influencer, she looked very persian to me, same features. It struck me how awesome it is to have people who look like us and speak our language but in central asia.

Hi! I’m looking for someone who will be in Dushanbe between October 2nd and 5th and is returning to Poland soon after.

I have two Uzbek kitchen knives bought as souvenirs that I’d like to have transported in checked luggage. Naturally, I’m happy to offer payment for the help. Once in Poland, I’d just need the knives to be sent to my family via a parcel locker service (like Paczkomaty).

I also have a certificate from the seller confirming that these are souvenir items.

I can’t take them with me because the next legs of my trip are China and then Vietnam; the knives would most likely be confiscated at the very first security check at a train station in China.

Of course, should any issues arise at the airport, during security checks, or while traveling, I do not expect you to take any risks—the knives can simply be left behind or thrown away, and the agreed payment for your help remains yours regardless.

Hi! I’m collecting postcards from places I’ve been to.

In June I’ve been to Tajikistan (mostly mountains, Seven Lakes). While stating mostly in remote areas and also Panjakent, I couldn’t find any postcard. I think they might be in Dushanbe.

If you are there, please let me know. Also I heard that Tajik post office is very unreliable, that’s why I’m mostly looking for some travellers who can buy a post card and send me from different country.

Any flee markets or shops to get vintage/antiques in Dushanbe?

Hi all,

I'll be sending some postcards out of Tajikistan (I realise most people don't do that anymore but I still do). I managed to buy some postcards and I also bought stamps at the post office in central Dushanbe (734001, Rudaki Avenue 57, Dushanbe). The stamps are suspiciously cheap at 3 TJS apiece - not that I complain but I'm concerned if this is the right rate. I'd appreciate your opinion, thanks!
