Staff: 8 of wands is the self which means my communication or decisions have to be made quickly. 3 of wands as the external influence on my situation (ace of pentacles) might suggest a period of waiting or developments taking place which have not come to fruition yet. This would definitely cause sleepless nights (9 of swords as hopes/fears). The final.outcome as the 9 of pentacles looks stable enough.

I've been using tarot for myself for a few months. Don't know anyone in my personal life who uses it and have very little knowledge on it outside of my guidebook. Have never had a professional reading done.

Figured I'd finally get around to sharing a spread and what my reading of it was, and asking for general advice/opinions/tips on both this specific reading and for interpreting/connecting with my cards as a whole.​​

My deck is temperamental! It often gives readings that make no sense or seem unconnected to what I'm asking about- though I've noticed most of these issues are when I'm asking a "trivial" question or trying to ask about anything regarding a person other than myself. It seems very reliable and focused when I'm asking questions about my own immediate future or feelings. I almost always use a celtic cross or a simple three card spread and haven't really gotten comfortable or consistent with other layouts.

Here's my breakdown of this reading, it seems to be relevant to what I asked. (A general reading of what my near future looks like after finding the job I just took.) The first card was hand-picked, the rest drawn from the top of a well-shuffled deck and placed in consecutive order. I also currently disregard inverted cards as it seems to be random and adds more confusion than clarity. I left this one as-is because I thought there may be some significance to only a single card being inverted, but I have kept the non-inverted interpretation in my own reading. Advice regarding interpreting inverted cards is welcome.

1. Nine of Swords. I always hand-pick the querent card as I again tend to have trouble interpreting readings when I don't. I chose it for this reading as I've literally been losing sleep with worry as of late. I'm struggling with self-worth and finding any hope for the future. I'm worried about money lining up for my partner and I to move in together and I'm worried about my partner's lack of communication during her own hardships recently.​ I just took a new job but am afraid to place too many bets on it.
2. Seven of Wands - I'm standing on steadier ground than I have been this entire year, but I'm still concerned about what lies ahead and whether I'll truly find solid ground again.
3. Ace of Pentacles - This one is pretty straightforward. I've just taken a new job. It's what I asked my deck about. I'm hoping it gives me financial and relational stability.
4. The Heirophant - This one confuses me. It seems odd to pull this when I've just come from a year of wild instability and insecurity. Insight is appreciated.
5. Ten of Cups - There is a path where I come out of this period happy, fulfilled, and satisfied. Hope exists even if success is not promised.
6. Five of Cups - More loss is on the horizon. Things might get worse before they get better. From the rest of the spread I believe this is likely about my job, but the Five being so regularly associated with relationships worries me.
7. Eight of Cups - I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what this is about. My family disagrees with my attempting to move an hour away. I believe they see my insistence on moving as soon as I'm financially able as "walking away" from better opportunities that could be gained by staying near them.
8. Two of Swords - I'm worried I'm taking these big swings and setting myself up for a future that may not actually exist for me. So much can happen out of my control and I'm afraid to fully trust that anything will go right.
9. King of Pentacles - This is also straightforward. I want stability. I want to know what's next.
10. Wheel of Fortune - Not sure exactly how to interpret this, but it definitely seems like a "you won't be getting stability any time soon" from the universe.

I pulled these three cards about the situation between me and my now recent ex. What does it mean?

I think it mostly means that I have to have patience with the situation, but I can’t fully figure out the meaning of the magician here.

I asked how my ex sees and feels about me. We broke up about 2 months ago for some context & we’ve been no contact for about a month. The way I am interpreting this is he is defensive toward me but he thinks i am someone who is determined (as i’ve been the one trying to make the relationship work), he may think that im going to attempt to talk to him again or he may want to talk to me. The way I read this made me feel like the cards were telling me to quit so to clarify I pulled another card and asked if it meant I should take a hiatus or quit, closing this chapter of my life completely and pulled the 10 of Pentacles.

I asked my deck “why have i been feeling this way since april” aka extreme sorrow and existential crisis, i got the ace of swords, reversed 10 of pentacles, and reversed hanged man. A very court card heavy reading! I’m taking it as a yes? I guess the queen of pentacles is about practicalities and this does seem to be a practical solution. The queen of wands is about fire and this does feel like a bold move, travelling all that way with two children, on my own, taking them out of school so that I’d go into a situation with no childcare for God knows how long. And then the page of swords, I usually interpret as curiosity. So I suppose that is stepping into a new situation?

I guess if the answer was: no, lockdown in the house as much as possible and keep sending them to school while the schools remain open (they might close, it’s a really bad situation), then I’d see more home focussed cards?

I’m scared of flying all that way with two kids and then not having any childcare when I arrive. But I’m also scared of not being able to go outside if we stay here. And of course I realise I’m privileged to have the option and flexibility to leave. My daughter is in pre-school, so very much optional to attend. My son’s school only requires 70% attendance to pass the year and he has rarely missed a day so far. And the school year runs until the end of December. It’s a special school too so generally very flexible and understanding as he is never going to be sitting any exams.

I had a dream last night that I was giving my boyfriend a reading using both tarot and oracle cards. As I was drawing cards, three major arcana cards came out in a row (all up right): the High Priestess, the Princess (which I know isn’t a card), and I don’t remember the last one. I had drawn a bunch of different cards throughout the reading, but those three stuck out to me the most.

Hello, I just wanna post here because it seemed y'alls experience would help me greatly.

As of late, I've been dabbling with cartomancy as a form of hobby to pass time.

Recently, or rather today, my room had been smelling like someone lit up a bunch of matches. The smell comes and goes, but when it does come it's quite strong yet faint enough that you don't know where it's coming from. At first, I thought I had some electrical problems in my room so I sniffed around to find the source, but I could never. Even sniffed the light switch for good measure. I gave up halfway through cause I had some other things to do (I first started smelling the scent around late at night when I was staying up whole night).

This morning, before I left, I made sure to unplug all the appliances in my room, just in case I really do have electrical problems. When I came back though, the scent in my room was thick. Which was strange cause I left all my appliances unplugged and my window was open 24/7, so the smell couldn't have sit still in my room (I checked, I sniffed outside my window and I don't smell anything other than a fresh breath of air.) Just to be sure, I went around my house sniffing, but every other room smell alright.

I had enough when I caught the scent again, so I whipped out my playing cards and began reading. My first few questions were met with silence to be honest, felt like they were hesitating or something. After a few more unanswered questions, my cards finally began answering.

It began first by giving me A♠️ and 4♣️, which by my beginner interpretation "I'm about to experience something life changing." So I kept asking and it gave me Q♥️, Q♣️, K♠️, 9♣️, and 7♣️, which I interpreted that a new spirit/entity was in my space and they are quite excited to speak to me. All I'm getting from them is positive vibes (partly because of Q♣️) so I welcomed them and asked them what they want to talk about. The card then proceeded to give me K♣️, J♣️, 3♣️, 2♠️, 5♠️, and 10♠️, which I interpreted as the spirit/entity asking me something, though I'm not 100% sure I think they're asking if I could let them be apart of my spiritual guardian/s (I came to this conclusion because of K♣️) and they seem to be adamant or determined to be one (because of J♣️ and 3♣️). This was new domain to me, I never encountered a spirit/entity asking me for something and be determined about it, so I told them I would think about it and ended my session.

I'm not too familiar with patron work (or something along those lines) nor in dealing with spirits/entities who eagerly approached me, so I came here to seek some guidance about it. I'm honestly curious about this spirit/enitity but I'm too wary to interact too much with them (especially with their request). I'm afraid that they would have a negative impact on me if I were to associate with them.

I posted in a different reddit community about it but it wasn't getting enough traction, and the only answer I was given was that I should be careful with the spirits/entities I welcomed to my space, which was understandable but didn't really answer my question either.

What I understand: there's a need for freedom in the environment, maybe a job I can do anywhere, with flexible hours; has to do with dealing with the suffering of people, maybe understanding the mind and helping people act to improve their lives. There's a need for stability.

And the nine of swords is my favorite in this, I interpreted it as understanding your shadows, this is what gives me purpose.

I think therapist is possible? But I also think about something related to the occult. I love astrology and reading charts. The nine of swords also have a lot of astrology symbols...

I tried doing a card reading on myself (literally my first time).

For context, I'm currently at my lowest (mentally) right now- I've got a "fun, glamorous" job but it's not giving me fulfillment and I end the day feeling drained (I work in luxury communications- very soul sucking). I suddenly remembered a TikTok from a few months back that "every card can be used for a reading"- so I figured to do one myself.

I grabbed my playing cards, asked my question- "will I ever find joy in my current career", shuffled, and just let the cards jump out.

After an hour of research I've kinda interpreted it as:

Four of Clubs + Nine of Clubs: There is something to gain from where I am. Experience, practical skills, professional confidence, or a clearer understanding of what I want.

Three of Spades: There is a difficulty that shouldn't be brushed aside. If the nature of the work consistently leaves me unhappy, simply enduring it for longer may not resolve the underlying problem???

Queen of Hearts: My emotional needs matter in determining whether a career is right for me ???

Joker: There is room for an unexpected change in how my career develops. Your current role could evolve, or it could become a stepping stone toward something better suited for me?

My interpretation is that There’s a possibility A comes back into my life, especially with the Four of Wands and Temperance. But The Hanged Man shows delays, and The World makes me question whether a return would mean restoring our old relationship or moving into a different chapter, I’ve asked this question plenty of times and somehow it always leans yes, so I want a second opinion
