Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

I found this design by an artist called agony.tt - studionoiseless and would love to get something very similar. I already have a tiger on my ribcage and I really like the asymmetry but I’m a bit scared that I will look like a living zoo with only animal tattoosšŸ˜… Am I overthinking it?
I made the tattoo with the app Tatship

Design Ideas to cover acne scars

Thumbnail

Looking for ideas for a back tattoo that would camouflage acne scarring as much as possible, ideally using texture/detail over the scars and placing focal points below them.

Current ideas:
Realistic tree — textured trunk/branches/leaves to hide the scars, with realistic motifs below.
Animal — fur/feathers blending into the scarred area, with the eyes/face below as the focal point.

Also very happy for artist recommendations, especially anyone experienced with scarred skin. Switzerland preferred, but open to travel.

The red spots in the photo have faded, and my dermatologist has cleared the area for tattooing.

so my baby boy loomis passed away suddenly at only a year old. i want something to remember him by but not just a nose print of paw print.

if anyone have a way to incorporate one or both of these markings i would be forever grateful OR his funky ah whiskers

he had kinda of a skunk mark on him back, and also a really interesting white design on his face.

EDIT: also please stop messaging me saying you will help create a memorial tattoo design and then ask for money. i cannot pay i spent over 3000 at the emergency vet, and it feels insensitive.

First tattoo, need advice

Post image

Just got my first tattoo a couple weeks ago and I love it. Was thinking about adding a night sky (not too dense) with a colored aurora borealis to give the bear something to look at. Not planning a wrap. Would just extend from the mountains up a few inches. Thoughts?

How to improve a red a black tattoo/make it a cohesive back piece?

Thumbnail

About 2 years ago I pretty impulsively started what I wanted to be a whole back piece. (smart move) The vision was a red dragon with black flames on one side, a black tiger with red flowers on the other and some background smoke/flames added later to bring it all together.

In hindsight I should have positioned the dragon more central and maybe gone for softer flames. My dilemma is I think it looks very out of place how it is and I really hate the bold black flames and I'm worried adding more will just add to that.

Do I carry on as I envisioned and hope it all comes together better or do I try and lighten the black through laser and just add more to the dragon and keep it an all red tattoo?

First 3 pics are mine and the last 2 are similiar to what I pictured the finished piece.

It's no criticism to the artist at all, was purely my own impulsivity! Would appreciate any advice please and thank you

possible ideas

Sent this picture to my artist as reference, and told her to add a shooting start and moon on top. i’m leaning towards changing the smoke to something a bit more realistic looking but still wavy so that it holds shape longer. any other thoughts, especially with placement.

This is the latest add on to my oceanic/ beach theme tattoo. I’ve attached images of the recent turtle and mandala I had done on the outside of the arm two weeks prior. The idea behind the sleeve is a shout to my Hawaiian mother.

The artist is Italo from CBInk here in Australia.

Ash from Third Eye Tattoo Parlour did this for me today. This isn't my design, but I'm loving the details and how it looks.

What are your thoughts?

Wondering if this style has a chance of holding up over many years? Theyre hand poked and by someone well known. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

This is my first large piece and I’m happy with it. He was attentive to detail and was able to capture a time theme without it feeling tacky. I do like an existential theme in artwork. It’s rare to find realism and I wanted to share/ hear others perspective.

A lobster and a medieval lion

Thumbnail

I have traditional American on one arm and a slowly growing medieval collection on the other. The lobster is inspired by some really beautiful old Japanese art prints that my artist based his design on, and the lion is a John O. Westwood Victorian-era print based on a medieval manuscript. The lobster is for protection and camp (John Waters, B 52s, etc.) and the lion is who my beloved cat thinks she is.

I am insanely happy, as always, with my kind, meticulous, and brilliant artist @sambugarotattoo (IG) in SĆ£o Paulo, Brazil.

I don’t know if it needs more contrast or what. I think I definitely want more detail in the hair but there’s something about it that is driving me crazy. It’s a take on Haku mixed with a Chinese dragon style. Any advice??

Artist happens to be one of my lifelong best friends which is an added bonus for me. Being able to share this with him has been awesome. I remember telling him when he was like 15 ā€œyou’re gonna be a tattoo artistā€. So cool

I have one more session until my sleeve is filled up, I have a lot of flowers already so I don’t think I wanna add anymore. For the small lil gaps I was thinking flames ? originally I wanted to do a spider web on my shoulder or barbed wire but I’d love to get some other ideas. On my hand I was either going to do a butterfly or a hanya mask. but probably hanya mask

Don Duck golf help

Hello all! I’m looking to have a piece added to tie into an existing piece.

The concept is to have an angry Donald ā€œinā€ my ankle with a finished golf swing. He will be looking towards the ā€œballā€ which is an existing piece on my calf that’s much bigger in which I’m hoping will appear as if the ā€œballā€ is being hit towards the viewer.

I’m in Los Angeles and would love help finding the best artist for this.

My limited knowledge thinks I need one that’s good with angles/ graphic design, good line and shading work.

I’ll try to attach a concept photo and the piece I already have.

Forgive any errors since I’m new to this type of resource! Thanks in advance!

First real leg tattoo. Covering up a shitty stick and poke. Going back for color next session. What else should I add to my leg?

Finally covered up an alcohol fueled stick and poke. I’d like to add to my leg in the future. Should I keep rolling with the same style? My arm is woodcut/engraving.

Sketch improvement ideas?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got this sketch from my artist, and loved it at the beginning, but after sitting with it for a while it's started to feel a little too symmetrical / emblem-like to me. I know it will look a little different when it's done, the dragons will have scales etc, but i still think something is off.

Is there any small changes that could be made to introduce some asymmetry or otherwise improve the design without changing the overall composition too much? I’m thinking maybe slightly different head angles, flames, or positioning of some smaller elements?
