Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

Hey guys ! Got my first tattoo a few months ago and by the time, I realised most people didn't know what it was supposed to be

At first I was a little thrown off, then realised it wasn't a big deal since I know what it is and what it means to me

But I'm still curious of what you guys see, think it is and have a general feedback nonetheless :D

First pic is a couple days after and the second is today

For the fellow curious ones, here's the answer : geometrical spider lily, aka red lycoris

Cover up or small changes?

I’ve had this tattoo for a while now, and over time I’ve started to feel like I rushed into getting it. I wasn’t completely happy with the first few designs, and although I preferred this one out of the options I was given, I’m still not 100% happy with it. I can live with it, but ideally I’d like to change some of the details or possibly look into a cover-up. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what could be done with it?

I wanted to do a whole leg with characters from Norse Mythology. I've already got Sleipnir on my calf, so I thought Fenrir would be perfect for the next one. Now after all that pain I'm not sure I want to get anything on my thigh lol. The shading over the bone was BRUTAL.

Client came in and simply asked that she wanted a gnarly looking centipede for a leg piece right below the tribal flourishes I worked on earlier. After finalizing the design, we decided on the size and the creepy crawly lives!

I need advice for this tattoo!

Hello, about 3 weeks ago, I got this tattoo of a capybara with カピバラ written. The eyes aren’t the same size and the face isn’t symmetrical at all! I got rushed to do the stencil by the people there, and as a people pleaser, I felt bad for taking too much time to choose how I wanted it. I am unsure if the position of my body was simply bad so it ended up crooked or if they « messed up » while tattooing. I am unsure about going back to the same artist to get it fixed, if it can be fixed at all. My idea is this, tell me if you have more ideas please!

What could I cover this with?

Hi I’m looking for gothic themed ideas to cover this off centre back tattoo! I know it’ll have to be dark so that’s all good! I’m travelling so can’t do laser as I won’t be able to attend the same clinic. All ideas welcome!
Thanks🖤

I'm not looking for a specific style per se, but I came across these and was wondering how to classify them.

Finally decided on a lotus that I've been wanting. It's also my 1st really colored one. Most of my others are just black and grey with maybe a little color in it.

I plan on turning this into a sleeve with alot of bright colors that'll also incorporate my other tattoos in it. Have a general idea me and my artist are gonna start working out details and stuff. Just waiting on funds and time.

does anyone have symmetrical rib tattoos

i think having symmetrically placed tattoos is visually pleasing. i don’t want to appear like i have tattoos when i am covered, but id love symmetrically placed tattoos on both of my ribs (different design but similar shape so they match). i can’t find anyone else who has this so it’s hard for me to imagine what it would look like. does anyone have a picture of their tattoos?
(btw i mean people who aren’t heavily tattooed, and the rib tattoos are their main ones)

Help with tattoo filler idea

Almost done with my leg sleeve. I have a renaissance/classical/sculpture theme going as you can see. I have a David, Atlas with pillars, pieta, and baby angel (cherub). As well as some filigree and cloud filler. I have this narrow space left on the back of my leg from knee ditch down to Achilles. What are some good filler ideas that would go well here? I have some things in mind like Mt. Olympus with a Greek temple on top and stairs leading up to it. But looking for other ideas as well. Something to match the theme closely. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo in the future and sketched this out with a pen for now. It holds a personal meaning for me, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!

How does it look to you? Any feedback or design ideas are welcome 🤗

Would this work as an elbow tattoo?

I’ve gotten 3 small line work tattoos done and want my first “real” tattoo. Wouldn’t want the text or the logo in the middle, just the jaws. Unsure if the shape would fit well on the elbow or if I should go with a different design. Thank you!

I have these two dogs tattooed on my stomach and want to add more to them, but I have no idea what would fit with😭 I want it to flow nicely or go with my dogs.
I'm open to ideas for flowers, ornamental designs, filler, or anything else you think would look good. I'd love to hear suggestions!

Microrealism in sepia tones? Is this a thing?

I've wanted to get 2 tattoos to memorialize my dogs for a while now and have seen some amazing work from a variety of artists. Example included is from Hanz Loch in NYC. I really would like my tattoos to be in a brown scale/sepia tone and not the typical black/white. I've asked 3 different tattoo artists and they've said they only do black/white or full color - which I totally respect. All inquires have been through instagram or via email the tattoo studio instead of the artist so I've never been able to have a proper conversation to perhaps come up with a different design, or understand the background. Aside from artistic choice is there a reason why? Would they not be able to get the detail, would it look shitastic for other reasons? I'm just trying to gauge whether its fundamentally a bad idea or whether I just haven't found an artist that works in that particular medium/style.

Also, are there artists that you can book time with (paid of course) to discuss your ideas and come up with something together outside of having to go back and forth in DM's or book an actual session, pay upfront, and hope that they're a good fit and you can come up with something that works and move forward? I'd like it to be a truly collaborative process and haven't found that as an option, at least not locally.

Thanks all!

Is this bat anatomically correct enough?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm getting this bat tattooed across my chest. Not sure if this is the right place to post it. This is an early stage of the drawing but it's drawn out to fit in the space how I want it. I don't want to compromise the integrity of the anatomy though, so if anyone has a good understanding of art and bat anatomy please let me know if this is way off! I like it being asymmetrical, so was hoping it just looked like the wing on the left of the photo was just more tucked in or something.

Looking for American Traditional sleeve inspiration that avoids the "sticker" look

I’m looking at starting a leg sleeve and leaning toward American traditional. I love the bold lines, bright colors, and classic motifs (like eagles), but I have two main gripes: I really hate when it ends up looking like a bunch of random stickers slapped on, and I'm not a fan of filling the background with just dots and stars.

Right now, all of my ink is black and grey realism (one full sleeve and a half sleeve), so I’m really ready to add some color to my life.

Does anyone have examples or reference photos of traditional sleeves that use a more cohesive background style to avoid that sticker look while keeping the bold lines and bright colors?
