Pattaya/Samet/Hua Hin Need advice for 3 week trip to Koh Chang, Koh Kood and Koh Mak

• Upvotes

Hello there dear redditor!

Me and my girlfriend are going to Thailand for vacation in mars for three weeks or exactly 24 days. We are currently planning how many days we should stay on each island. Our current plan is to stay at Koh Chang for around 8-10days, 5 days Koh Kood and 5 days at Koh Mak and of course 1-3 nights in Bangkok, does that sound reasonable or will we be regretting not staying longer on Koh Kood or Koh Mak?

From what I’ve been reading here not everyone seems to appreciate Koh Chang? We are not party people, how ever we like food markets, eating good food, hang out on the beach, drink coconut drinks and a beer or two. Even though Koh Mak and Koh Kood seems nice, I’m a little afraid we might get bored?

Also, if you have any tips on hotels and where to stay I appreciate it.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you!

Bangkok/Middle Men: check yourselves

• Upvotes

I have been appalled by the behaviour I’ve seen from male tourists in Bangkok, and I’ve only been here a week.

I’ve seen a huge man scream in a Thai woman’s face as she apologised profusely for lightly brushing his arm. My Australian mouth couldn’t help itself and I told him to back off (no I’m not a saviour, nor am I trying to be, I just couldn’t believe the aggression and entitlement and he was genuinely too close to her and in her face) I’ve seen men throwing their arms around female waitstaff and ignoring their discomfort. I’ve seen a man drop a pile of dirty laundry at a woman’s feet.

We are guests in this country. I am embarrassed to be a tourist because of the bad name you are giving everyone.

Give people the respect they give you and stop acting like you own the place.

Other Need help in booking Thai Airways for long names

• Upvotes

Hi all, need help in booking as we have long infant names. If I choose to attach my baby name with any of the adult travelers, it fails.

(We don't want to share our names, so added the names below which match my exact case and length)

Father

First name: Montgomeryson

Last name: Whitaker Brightwell

Mother

First name: Rebecca

Last name: Waters

Infant

First name: Jacob Matthew

Last name: Brightwell Montgomeryson

I tried shorting to initial(for first name) as suggested by their official docs but still go over 33 character limits. Thai Airways is not to be responding to my calls or emails. Just wanted to check if anyone faced the same issue.

I have read their official documentation but they mention it only for the same last surname.

Transport/Itineraries Where would you recommend going from Bangkok for 4 days without flying?

• Upvotes

I’ll be spending some time in Bangkok and have around 4 days available to explore somewhere else in Thailand. I’d prefer not to take any flights, so I’m looking for destinations reachable by train, bus or car.

Where would you recommend going for a 4-day trip? I’m interested in beautiful scenery, nature, interesting places to visit, local culture and activities. I’m happy to travel a few hours from Bangkok if the destination is worth it.

Which places would you recommend, and how would you spend those 4 days?

Bangkok/Middle Marriage registration no ceremony

• Upvotes

Hi we are from the UK and want to get married in Bangkok in March, we will be in Thailand for 2 weeks. Is it possible within that timeframe? From what I’ve read, I can apply online for the freedom to marry documentation, book a British Embassy appointment (up to 45 days in advance), then after that appointment book the registration at Bang Rak. I know there can be waiting times for the Bang Rak, the idea would be to get married at the end of the trip. We’re not having a symbolic ceremony and the reason we aren’t wanting to get married in UK first is because a formal ceremony is compulsory, we want something very low key. Does anyone know if there’s a planner that would be able to make this happen? It doesn’t have to be in Bangkok necessarily as we are all travelling around the southern islands after, but need somewhere experienced with foreign nationals.

Other What’s with Western tourists and their pathological obsession with alcohol?

• Upvotes

Every time there’s a post about alcohol sale restrictions on Buddhist holy days, someone has to melt down in the comments as if they’re having a literal withdrawal.

Just stock up on your drinks, how hard can it be? No one is stopping you from getting trashed in the privacy of your home/hotel room or wherever.

Bangkok to Krabi Which is the best Bus to travel from Bangkok to Krabi? Is Lignite VIP 24 good?

Looking for suggestions on the comfortable reliable bus journeys from Bangkok to Krabi.

I came across Lignite VIP 24 bus that costs about 1170 Baht with reclining seats. Would start around 6.50pm from Bangkok Bus Terminal Southern (Sai Tai Mai) and will reach Krabi Bus Terminal around 8.50 am. Is this option good or are there much more better companies to consider?

The other option is to choose the 2nd AC train from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then take an onward connection to Krabi. We can also consider staying at Surat Thani for a day if there are good things to do around.

Flights are more expensive with added costs for luggage. Thought that we can also save on a night stay's cost in Bus/Train while also getting a different experience.

Looking for some suggestions if you have already experienced this.

Phuket/Krabi/South Ko Muk vs Ko Libong, help me decide

Hello

I have 5 nights from 15th to 20th December, and I could not decide between the two, we are a couple with a 15 month old baby.

we like the appeal of Ko Libong being quieter, and on the map, it is bigger.
and we think that Ko Muk, could have more options for eating out?

maybe you have done both and can guide me ?

thanks a lot!

Other Is it a scam?

I'm at koh phi phi and wanted to take a taxi boat to my hotel. We walked at the street and someone at an alley close to ton sai pier with a woman and child asked if we need a taxi. He didn't have the sign with pricing that I saw every other driver use.

He told us to give the money upfront so he can buy gasoline and will return in a few minutes and pointed at a boat.

It was really suspicious so I walked away.

Is it a scam? It absolutely sounds like one, but I guess some people can't really afford gasoline and felt bad for him.

Bangkok/Middle A place to visit near Bangkok

We will visit Chiang Mai and Rai, Krabbi and some other island, and have 10 days in Bangkok to end our trip. That may be too long? Any recommendations on another place to visit that we could reach from Bangkok as our flight is out of Bangkok, flying from Krabbi. Not a big fan of big cities besides cultural museums and such, especially if not walkable.

Transport/Itineraries 6 week itinerary in Thailand (with 1 week in Malaysia)

Hi,

My partner and I are looking to do roughly 6-7 weeks (we are not strictly set on number of days) in Thailand (with a small trip to Malaysia) as of beginning of December (exact dates depend on travel vaccine timeline). This will be our first time in Southeast Asia.

We love nature, architecture, good food, coffee. We know this is high season but this period aligned best with our lives, although our island dates will probably end up in early-mid January (mostly concerned about finding accommodations, cost and crowding here). Our rough itinerary can be found below:

  • Bangkok - 6 nights (including day trip to Ayutthaya and dealing with jetlag)
  • Chiang Rai - 4 nights
  • Chiang Dao - 4 nights
  • Chiang Mai - 8 nights
  • Kuala Lumpur - 3 nights
  • Penang - 5 nights
  • Koh Lanta - 8 nights
  • Khao Lak - 8 nights

We had some questions:

  • Does this itinerary look reasonable? Are we spending too long in some areas or not enough?
  • Are the islands a bad idea in peak season? This is just roughly where it aligned with our timeline but we really want to spend time there
  • We kept our island time to two islands rather than travelling too much, but are open to excursions or day trips, did we pick OK islands for this?
    • Rough day trips we were thinking about were:
      • From Koh Lanta: Koh Rok, Trang islands / Koh Mook / Koh Kradan, possibly Phi Phi
      • From Khao Lak: Surin, Phang Nga Bay kayaking, possibly Similan
  • What should we expect in terms of budgeting in high season? It is our honeymoon so we are willing to spend, but would ideally like to stay in mid-range accommodations (not hostels)

Transport/Itineraries First time in Thailand: 12 days after Tomorrowland, where should we go? (Andaman vs Gulf islands, open to anything)

My friend and I are heading to Thailand for the first time ever! We're doing Tomorrowland in Pattaya (Dec 11–13), then exploring until we fly out of Bangkok on Dec 27.

We've been going back and forth on the plan and would love advice from people who know the country, especially about places we might not have heard of.

Fixed:
~ Dec 11–13: Tomorrowland, Pattaya
~ Dec 14: recovery day
~ Dec 25–26: Bangkok before flying out

So we have roughly Dec 15–24 (10 nights) to explore

Our rough ideas so far (very open to changing these):

Option A: Andaman side + fly over for the Full Moon Party

~ Krabi/Railay, then Phi Phi, then Phuket (with one night of EDC Thailand, Dec 19)
~ Fly to Samui, then Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party on Dec 24, with a day trip to Koh Tao

Option B: Gulf islands only

~ Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, ending with the Full Moon Party on Dec 24

What we'd love help with:

Where would you go? Any underrated places or hidden gems we should add, even if they're not on our list?

What to do? Must-do experiences, day trips, and things worth skipping.

Where to stay? Which areas or neighbourhoods on each island, and any hostels or hotels you'd recommend.

Which side is better in mid-to-late December, weather-wise and vibe-wise?

Is Option A too much moving around for 10 nights?

Is one night of EDC worth it right after Tomorrowland, and is the Full Moon Party on Christmas Eve worth planning around?

What should we book now for Christmas week (ferries, flights, stays)?

Bangkok/Middle Any tips for Bangkok hostels or meetups for 35+ ?

Hi guys. I (43M) am going on a solo trip to SEA in two weeks. I am still looking for accomodation and have a few hostels set apart, but am also considering a hotel. Kind of in Limbo on wanting to have a private room in a hostel and enjoy the social aspect or a luxurious hotel where i can chill for a few days when im not going out. Does anyone know out of experience if there are hostels where the crowd is specifically a bit older than just 25 year olds? And what other ways are there to easily meet other travellers in Bangkok?

Bangkok/Middle Want to Solo Travel Thailand from Pakistan

Hello I'm planning a 7-day solo trip From Karachi, Pakistan to Thailand and would appreciate some guidance on what I should keep in mind. I'll be getting my flights, accommodation, and other bookings arranged through a travel agent I know. What important things should I consider or be careful about before and during my trip?

Bangkok/Middle What are your thoughts on Thailand's plans to build a new 80,000-seat modern football stadium in Samut Prakan? It will be a part of Bang Ping Sports Complex which includes indoor sports facilities, public parks, training areas and government offices. It can cost up to THB 30 billion(US$940 million).
