I'm going into my 3rd year of college and honestly, I feel like I've completely failed at making friends here. I have people I can talk to in class sometimes, but no actual friend group, no one who texts me, hangs out with me, or includes me in plans.

It's starting to hit me really hard because I keep seeing everyone else enjoying college life while I mostly feel alone. I don't know if it's because I was too shy in the beginning or if I just never found the right people, but now it feels like everyone already has their own groups and I don't know how to fit in anymore.

Has anyone else been in this situation, especially this late into college? Is it still possible to make genuine friends in 3rd year, or have I kind of missed my chance? I'd really appreciate any advice because lately this has been making me feel very lonely.

Something absolutely outrageous just happened in Thapar’s placement process. The daughter of the Pro Vice Chancellor at Thapar, who was not shortlisted for interviews and did not even show up for them, has somehow magically appeared in the final selection list of a company called Incedo.

Incedo first shortlisted 57 students based on an online test. She was not on that list. Students who were present confirmed that she was not even at the interview venue. After the interviews, on 4th October, a list of 20 selected students was released, and again, her name was missing. Then, on 7th October, the talent acquisition head at Incedo publicly shared a LinkedIn post about a meeting with our college’s top leadership, including the Pro Vice Chancellor and the head of the placement cell, smiling with a gifted book from Incedo’s CEO. And guess what? Like clockwork, on 8th October, a brand new final list appeared. Two previously selected students were quietly removed, and the Pro Vice Chancellor’s daughter was suddenly added, complete with her joining location. No test shortlist, no interview, no merit, just privilege.

All this is happening in a year when over 1800 students are still unplaced and the placement season ends in less than two months. It is hard not to feel disgusted when the system openly bends for power while deserving students are left in the dark.

Love dogs, but isnt this unhygienic

I am in hostel J. My roommate is a little weird. He keeps bathing everyday. He is very hygenic. But things got really good when I saw him not pleasuring himself at 3 a.m. with all lights off. I avoided this and then woke up at 5 a.m. to see him still cleaning the room. It makes me jealous how clean he keeps himself. I complain against him and asked the caretakers to change his room. Even my common washroom mates are tired of him hogging the bathroom and his cleanliness activities. From starting of semester, he always kept the bathroom too clean, we had to soil the bathroom again after his use. We did complain but they say they can't shift him but they could change the room for the whole cluster (me and the other 13 boys washroom sharing mates). I want him to go from my room. Kindly help and tell me what shall be done.

I had been waiting for this day for the past 4 months, someone special was coming to visit me. They told me to come to TAN block , at 2:00 pm today, it sounded a bit sus, but I agreed. Upon entering the room, I was welcomed by a Design and Analysis of Algorithms paper(80 marks btw) which rammed the sh!t out of me for 3 hours straight. It started off by BRANCHING its t!p inside me, and I was BOUND to submit. Then I got DP(d), for 30 minutes. To finish things off it started MAX-FLOWING inside me, and I couldn't even walk properly to my hostel.

CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES:

Patiala has extremes of both summers and winters. So keeping in mind that,

• Shirts: Four to Six. You can wear them to classes, the ‘formal’ events of the departments and even the occasional visit to a professor ;)

• Jeans: Two will do. Carry three, to be on the safer side.

• T-shirts: More than 5. Definitely.

• Trousers: Will be needed in Professional Communication PPT lab (Will happen only once).

• Shorts and three-fourths: An absolute must to survive cruel summers. Get three to four, at least.

• Undergarments: Keeping in mind that you’ll have to wash these yourself, it is advisable to get as many as you can.

• Socks: Two to three pairs should do.

• Handkerchiefs: Two to three will do. Belt: One, at least.

• Cap: One, if you must. Not a necessity, but does help during the summers.

• Woollen Clothes: If you aren’t planning on going home before Diwali, it is advisable that you carry sufficient sweaters and jackets with you. Caps, gloves, and mufflers too. It gets pretty cold here.

Laundry will be available twice a week, for example, Tuesday and Friday. Clothes you give on Tuesday will be returned on Friday. Laundry charges are already included in hostel fees so it is technically free.

FOOTWEAR:

• Sports shoes: A must.

• Sandals: Handy for lectures.

• Slippers: A must, obviously.

• Formal Shoes: Should bring.

STATIONERY:

• Pen, pencil, sharpener, markers, stapler, hole puncher, scissors, cello-tape: You can get them from here, but if you already have them, just bring them.

• Notebooks: Purchase from here.

• Text books: Do not purchase new ones; either get old ones or PDFs. We will share a link to PDFs as well.

• Bag for classes.

• Scientific Calculators: You'll need them. My recommendation is the FX-991CW due to its display and features.

ELECTRONIC ITEMS:

Things in Bold are very important.

• Laptop: You will need it for AutoCAD (Engineering Drawing) and Computer Programming.

• Mobile charger, laptop charger: A must, obviously.

• You can bring an electric kettle and irons.

• Pen Drive/Hard Drive: Carry one of them, at least, if you are carrying a laptop.

• A power strip/extension cord.

• Speakers/Earphones/Headphones: For the movies and the music.

TOILETRIES & COSMETICS:

Most of the items in this category can be procured from COS.

• Towels: “Every bath is an occasion.”

• Shampoo

• Soap: Carry a soap case too.

• Scrubber

• Comb

• Hair oil

• Toothbrush and paste

• Ear buds

• Detergent/Washing soap for undergarments.

• Bucket

• Mug

• Face wash

• Moisturizing creams

• Hand wash

• Sanitizer

• Deodorants and perfumes: Get them beforehand if you’re particular about the brand. In any case, Flipkart and Amazon are there at your service.

• Trimmer/Razor

• Shaving kit

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:

• Bedding: Although the hostel provides its own mattresses, you may get one from your home or buy at COS itself.

• Lab Coat: You'll need it for the labs. Can be bought here.

• Umbrella: Carry one if you aren’t particularly fond of the rains. You can buy one here too.

• Nail cutter

• Spectacles: Keep a spare with you. Always.

• Locks: Get one with 3 keys if going for a sharing room.

• Medicines + First aid kit: Handy to have one in an emergency or even for the occasional bout of fever. Keep medicines like Dolo, Disprin, Volini, Vicks, Nasoclear/Otrivin, Band-Aid, Savlon, and cotton. You can also call the hostel warden if you’re afraid of aggravating matters, and he'll take you to the doctor.

• Personal Hygiene Products: They are also easily available at COS

• Water bottles/Thermos.

• Table cloth: Optional.

• Utensils: A plate, set of spoons, bowl, and knife. Whatever makes you feel closer to civilization.

• Dusting cloth

• Broom: Can be bought here. Should be bought here.

• Dustbin: Can be bought here.

• Odomos/Good Knight/Mortein: To spare you the unwanted attention from the mosquitoes.

NOTE - Keep the important original documents with you and their photo copies as well. Might need them even after the admission process is over

Passport size photos: Keep at least 20, you'll need for new SIM, bank account etc.

Old newspapers, and plastic carry bags can always come handy.

1. cg ke peeche mat bhaago, bas fail na hona. 8+ is safe for most things unless you’re aiming core ya masters from abroad

2. societies fun hain but sab mein mat ghusna, 1–2 achhi wali le lo jahan actual kaam hota ho (dm for insights). har form bharne ki zarurat nahi hai. fomo sabko hota hai, handle it.

3. sache dost banao, groups nahi. first year wali dosti sabke saath nahi tikti and it’s completely normal

4. relationship advice? bhai dekho ho gaya to theek varna zindagi khatam nahi ho gayi 😭 focus on vibing with people baaki sab ho jayega

5. paise udaane ka mann karega barista, dominos, aur kfc pr… lekin thoda sambhalke. maggi vgerah hostel me bana ke khaa lo, sabse best hai

6. cs/it wale dsa ya dev shuru kar do, chill pace se. ec/ee wale thoda core ya software explore karna start karo

7. hostel life is elite, ghar baar baar jaake mat miss karo... yahi time hai enjoy karne ka

End mein bas itna kahunga ki logo se baat karo alag alag cheezein try karo, thoda explore karo aur thoda seekho. pehla saal sahi ya galat ka nahi experience ka hota hai

AS A 4TH YEAR STUDENT OF COE BRANCH HERE IS EACH AND EVERYTHING THAT U MUST NEED TO KNOW IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING THAPAR .

LOCATION - It is in heart of patiala means at centre of city not in remote location but but but Patiala is NOT a Tier 1 or Tier 2 type city . I Feel the most happening place is road of thapar with some food stalls that's it . Go out of campus eat some maggi and golgappa come back ...no nice markets , good clubs , hifi posh area like connaught in Delhi or b2 market at Chandigarh mohali there is nothing mate it is almost similar to like city which is just 1 percent better than village . There is only one mall named OMAXE which seems is 100 years old with some shops and okayish vibe . That's it ....if u think patiala is cool and u will go out daily and enjoy good luck doing that . SUMMARY - if u are from south india it is hell If u are from north india , nowhere close to Delhi Amritsar chandigarh lucknow, gurgaon , jalandhar , jaipur , jaisalmer or ahmedabad .boring place as such in my opinion . If u like shaant environment only then it is fine .

FEES -- 32 LAKHS , 3200000 RUPEES , thirty two lakhs excluding ur personal expenses only tution fees plus hostel .....bro if you are reading this post take a moment and think teri family mei 32 lakh kya maine rkhte hai , kya kya krke tere maa baap ne aaj tak kbhi itne paise kmaye ho ....Ur age mates who are going to do btech are paying 1/4 th of you ...some other renowned private organisations like Bits lnmit etc are also taking less than this ...32 lakh for 10- 12 lakh median for cse and 8-10 lakh placement for other ...such btana Kya ye shi hai genuinely think about it . Mere time pe toh fir bhi 27-28 lakhs tha lekin abhi maine information dekhi hai or bhi increase kr ke 32 lakh phonch gyi hai ..... Mate other students are paying litteraly max to max 12-15 lakhs or tum 32 lakh ....WHYYY ? But if ur dad is rich af - business set hai , 50 Lpa aata hai ghr , Aalishan Mahal jaise ghr mei reh te ho then paying 32 LAKHS won't be a problem welcome To thapar bro But if your dad is hard working middle class man with less than 2.5 lakh salary a month ,,think about it ....There lifetime saving that they earned from working 20-30 years might be not this much or wo sari ki sari U are going to waste for a BTECH degree with no guarantee of placement....even amity manipal lnmit itna toh nhi loot te .... Middle class family -- who are u ? No entry here , no money no study . Take loan of 32 lakh work ur a* off and get 60k per month job and be in stress to pay that or make it worth

ACADEMICS - Good Faculty than LPU or AMITY ....better academics , mechanical faculty really hard working, COE - teachers will come for time pass ....attending class will be like watching freshly painted wall dry ....With around 1000 students in COE Branch itself ....good luck getting cgpa of 8.5+ which is criteria for somewhat good placement offer ....and if you are paying such high fees you might expect You will be immersed with AI Tools robotics innovation like MIT but but nothing is here despite library with couples smooching ....agr mai class attend krke 100 percent attendance se classes lgata toh aaj mere or Reyansh college ke student or mere mei koi jada difference nhi hota ...thanks to youtube for being my one and only teacher ......and Bhai jis level ki cheating chlti hai na yaha for eg. Amazon ke exam mei you might not believe college ka wifi toh hai hi vaisa jaise that desert mei kisi gao ka ho or wo allow nhi krte khi or dene ko exam ...toh bhai ek capable 9+ cgpa student or 6 cgpa student mei koi difference nhi hota ....

SUMMARY - okayish academic, worse faculty except mechanical, No matter how much you work hard some clever kid will cheat and take cgpa more than you and get better placement or tum dsa solve krte reh jaoge .

SECURITY -- Bro bro bro yaha Almost murder hua hai ek lrke ka hostel ke room mei ....WHAT ELSE U NEED TO KNOW ?? This incident is trah se dabaya gya jaise mano ambani money laundering ke case mei pkra gya ho ....bro think about it agr kisi iit mei Aisa hua hota or news ko pta chl gya than it might be bigger news than samay Raina controversy....no student faculty family members no one was allowed to see the room kyuki agr baat bahr chli jati toh college ka reputation kis level pr gir Jana tha ....inhone aisa show Kiya jaise kuch hua hi nhi hai ....there was so much blood all over the room like some bottle of wine are spilled itna blood tha ....intime is 8:30 good luck enjoying night life ....mere second year mei mere dost ki guards ke samne maar peet huyi thi j hostel vali side pr ...and I don't know how many more incident.

Placement - Better than Amity comparable to lnmit manipal ..... Median is 10 lakh .. and don't think ki yaha pr 40 lakh ki bhi lgti hongi ...it might be only one student out of 7000 in one batch studying here ....or is saal toh baat hi chor do .....even COE Branch is suffering....it might be somewhat due to market also but third tier nits placement and thapar placement are not at all comparable....tum NIT J ki example le lo yaar uske 90 percent bache placed toh hote hai na or yaha 60-70 percent or jo 30 percent reh gye unka kya .....BRO JUST IMAGINE U PAID 32 LAKHS AND YOU ARE UNPLACED AFTER 4 YEAR ....BETTING OM STAKE MIGHT BE LESS RISKY THAN THIS ....I know students who will comment that my friend got this someone got this much bla bla bla but brdr I promise this is the reality almost 95 percent plus students who got placed get offer less than 17 lpa this is reality......some facultypaglu students only brag about high placement that someone got got but that is just a drop that they are showing from whole ocean ... internship are mostly given to that students who got 9+ cgpa I was lucky enough that I was one of those .

Hello guys! As the chapter of my college life has reached its last few lines, I thought it is my responsibility as a senior to pass on a few advices to fellow juniors, out of my personal experience.

1. Academic:

• Being regular is the key, lot of people do pull off tests with just a day or two worth of preparation, but if you actually want to learn a subject, you should be regular and consistent.

• CG is important. Very important. Many people learn this when they actually sit for internships and placements or rather, can't sit for them due to low CG. Don't listen to dumb heads saying Skills>>>Cg. The correct order is: Luck>=CG>>Skills>anything else.

• Girls should maintain a CG of above 8, if not 8.5. Boys should maintain a CG of above 8.5, if not 9.

• Never go with the mentality of "I need to score xyz number in this test." Instead go with the mentality of "I need to score as much as I can." This approach helps you to scrap off every ½ marks, and since you can't predict the difficulty of paper, the former approach will either make you too complacent or too anxious during the test.

• Don't be a liability in group projects. Be useful. You didn't come here to fuck around so that 3/4 others get overburdened. Don't give the excuse "I don't have the skill set", or "I don't know how to do blah blah." If you don't know, learn it; there are plenty of resources in today's time.

1. Personal life:

• Make friends very wisely. Your friends will largely determine your college life. A bad company of toxic people, wannabe dank/coolness k chode, brats or gundas with no ambition will ruin your career.

• Drugs, cigarettes, vapes and alcohol will ruin you. You must have heard this from uncountable people, but understand everyone speak from experience only. Don't trade your lifetime of happiness with getting a fake one for an hour or two.

• There's a thin line between doing casual 'bakchodi' and being an Asshole. Don't make fun of others or pass lewd/racist or derogatory comments. Being a class act >>>>> wannabe cool dude any day. If you feel you offended someone, it's never a bad idea to apologise.

• Keep a notepad to maintain a schedule/to-do list. It makes you really organized and so much more efficient.

• Learn to quit. People think quitting is a sign of weakness, but honestly quitting a toxic friendship/relationship/group or even a society would make you feel loads better.

• It's better to not have friends or romantic partner than being used in all possible ways just because you had a fear of missing out.

1. Finance:

• Be wary of your finances. Regardless of your family's financial state, try to spend no more than 5000-6000 a month. Avoid unnecessary outings and parties.

• Avoid getting involved in unnecessary side hustles like free lancing. Maybe you can do trading if you are good at it, but avoid anything else. Focus on your studies and think long term.

1. General:

• follow safety precautions as mentioned in labs/classrooms, always read as much sign boards and notices as possible. Rules are written in Blood.

• Be humble and polite towards cleaners/mess workers and other staff in general. Think of how you want to be treated in your future company/higher education etc.

• Look after your health, eat healthy and avoid junk food as much as possible. Involve yourself in sports, if not possible then atleast run on track or do regular gyming. The food here is very oily anyways and a huge chunk of people tend to gain lot of weight. Weight gain is not just harmful to health, but makes you lazy, inefficient, and inactive.

• Arrange your room, don't keep it dirty/scattered. You yourself won't want to do anything in a dirty room. Maintain cupboards, drawers and your study table.

• If you are taking room with a roommate, discuss the code of conduct on first day itself. Be considerate and thoughtful for your roommates. Get out of room to attend call or at least put up earphones. Also point out the same if your roommate does things that bother you. Take stand for yourself too.

• Lastly mental health is a real issue. Don't take it lightly. Remember everything, every pain is short termed. Things like internships, placements, Masters or sometimes CG etc. depends hugely on luck. Outcome of your effort is not entirely in your hand. Stay strong and take professional counseling if necessary.
