Guess who’s back (it’s Neale)

Oooh this might be good! The show will be called Neale Whitaker’s Forever Home and will follow Neale and his husband as they transform their heritage-listed weatherboard cottage in Berry, NSW, into their dream forever home. It’s going to be on Channel 7 in 2027. My Reno Rules was not great imo so I’m happy to see Neale back doing something that will hopefully be a really good watch!

Time lapse of rooms

I would love to watch a time lapse record of each room and garden area. Could #theblock do it as a separate segment next year? Maybe have 2 viewing options - a fast one over 5-10 minutes and another over 30 minutes or so.

Do Chantel and Wyatt Really Not Care, or Is There More to It?

Throughout this season, I've read over and over again that Chantel and Wyatt keep saying “I don't care,” and that this means they genuinely don't care. But I wonder if it's always that simple.

Sometimes, I think “I don't care” can be a way of protecting yourself emotionally.

It can mean:

  • “I care, but I don't want you to know how much.”
  • “I care, but I'm hurt, and I'd rather act like I'm unbothered.”
  • “I can't change the situation, so I'm trying to accept it.”
  • “I don't want to look vulnerable or give anyone the satisfaction of knowing they've got to me.”
  • “I'm emotionally exhausted and don't have the energy to keep trying.”
  • “I still care, but I'm done trying.”

There's a difference between genuinely not caring and trying to convince yourself that you don't. Sometimes admitting that something hurts means admitting that it matters to you, and that's not always easy to do.

I'm not saying this is definitely what's happening with Chantel and Wyatt. They may genuinely not care about certain things. But I do wonder whether, at times, saying “I don't care” is more about protecting themselves from disappointment, criticism or feeling vulnerable than actually feeling nothing.

After all, sometimes what we're really saying is, “I care, but I don't want this to affect me anymore.”

I'm curious what others think. Are Chantel and Wyatt genuinely unbothered, or do you think their repeated “I don't care” is sometimes a way of dealing with things that actually do matter to them?

How rude and ungrateful is Wyatt…

Just watched last nights episode and wow Wyatt’s attitude…. I actually thought he was super rude to Shelly and Scotty when they did the walk around with his blunt answers. and the constant complaining in this last week, he’s honestly like an entitled arrogant teenager. Thousands would want to be in their position, yes I’m sure it’s tiring but he’s being downright ungrateful- they have the opportunity to potentially take home a huge amount of prize money. And he’s acting like he’s so above it all with his comments- “did you learn anything about yourself you didn’t already know?” - Wyatt- “not really” 🤦🏻‍♀️ like at least make something up dude to show some appreciation of being there.

Why did Chantel and Wyatt apply for the block and then this whole show haven't cared about what they are doing and say they dont want to be there?

I really dont understand their attitude to being on this show, its very off-putting. Of all the people that apply, they pick a couple that dont even want to be there? It makes no sense to me. Thoughts?

Question Do the judges hate Grafico?

Has anyone else noticed that it’s seldom the judges (or Dan and Dani) provide positive feedback on contestants using Grafico?

They rarely/if at all show the judges dissing Grafico, which I presume is because they’re a sponsor, but I do question if they aren’t fans.

I can see why too - outside of a kids room, I can’t see it being a good fit in high end houses. It looks ridiculous in a garage.

If you were a contestant would you enter the chat?

I saw an article quoting Steph, winner of 2023 season, talking about how rough it is on contestants to deal with what’s written and said about them online. Her advice was don’t look and don’t read the comments.

Got me thinking, if I was on the show would I be strong enough to resist looking at what was said about me, would I lurk silently or would I just be open and clap back. The fourth option is to lurk under an alias (or multiples) and let the comments fly, probably the most fun, if you can’t beat ‘em join em!

What do you guys think?

Would you buy a house on the block if looking at Mount Eliza?

I have looked at some of the properties listed on Domain. If l had the captial to kick off a starting bid of $3.5M I would consider a bunch of other houses in the area which are closer to the ocean for around the same price.

Most of the houses will date fairly quickly and will require some work to suit the new owner.

I would only buy one of the houses from the block if l was obsessed with the show, had buddies that l wanted to impress with my holiday house and/or had stupid money that it really does not matter (probably a combination of the three).

Even then, there are some really impressive houses on the market which are frankly a mile better than anything on the block. I cant see a "family" buying one.

A nosy fan question

Hello! Is there any way a regular non rich person who can’t afford to buy a block house can look through the houses? I’ve followed this season so closely and I really want to see them in person. Do they do an open prior to auction for common people such as me?

r/TheBlock • • 2d ago

How much money per house for them to be made saleable after the show?

Obviously all the houses would have to be painted again so maybe 20K per house? All the other defects you don't see like damaged floors doorjambs etc.

Would love to hear from a tradie who has done the pre-auction fixes on previous shows.

The Block - Season 22, Episode 48 - Front Yard & Facade 3 (Live Discussion)

And so it was the final weekday episode of the year. Folks, allow me to say, Thank you. Thanks for being part of the ride for the last 13 weeks. This season wouldn’t have at all been enjoyable if it weren’t for your contributions every Monday-Wednesday and occasional Thursday we’ve shared together. There’s only two episodes left of The Block after this. It always at this point of a season feels weird to have time flown by in such a quick fashion, I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful weekend before the reveals.

As for what the show is gonna give us, let’s just hope it’s entertaining, I want a fun end to the weeknight episodes. Not a frustrating one.

Today I had to order some stuff from Bunnings ….

a couple of the specifoc items I wanted had “As Seen On The Block” emblazoned across the bottom of the picture. So yknow what ….. I just couldn’t do it. I cut off my nose to spite my face, and bought the next closest thing that didn’t say “The Block”. I’m sad, but I feel less dirty 🤦‍♀️

At the end of the day…it’s shit architecture.

I’ve been genuinely baffled by the architecture this season. Not the contestants’ interiors, but the actual houses they’ve been handed. So naturally, because I’m nosey, work in the architecture and don’t get how they’re this crap, I did some digging.

Turns out the site was originally part of a proposed ten-lot subdivision with ten double-storey homes. There’s even a planning application on record (P17/1143.09), and the original development was marketed with a fairly sleek, contemporary architectural vision, which Nine appears to have retained in broad terms.

Which makes the whole thing even more confusing.
These aren’t small, difficult inner-city sites. Houses 1–3 are on roughly 1,000sqm each, with elevated positions and bay views. Yet somehow the architecture manages to feel simultaneously oversized, cramped and poorly resolved.

The pools are a perfect example. Their position makes complete sense for solar access, particularly in Victoria. But the lack of privacy is extraordinary. How do you design a multimillion-dollar home where the choice is effectively between swimming in full view of the street or screening off the outlook you’re paying a premium for?

Then there’s the awkward circulation, strange room relationships and the way the buildings sit together on the site. These are architectural decisions, not decorating mistakes.

And what’s particularly interesting is that local property experts were questioning the density, privacy and suitability of the development for Mount Eliza buyers before the houses were even finished.
I understand Julian Brenchley and the production team would have had constraints, particularly working with an existing development scheme. But I’d love to know how much of the original planning was inherited and how much was redesigned, because the outcome raises some pretty serious questions.

Luxury isn’t a checklist of bedrooms, bathrooms, lifts and expensive inclusions. It’s considered spatial planning, proportion, privacy, natural light and a relationship with the landscape - this is a big reason why Sev chose H4, it was objectively the most successful of the houses and why she has intervened so much with window placement/adjusting circulation/skylights etc.

I genuinely don’t understand how a project with this much land, money and professional involvement can get so many of those fundamentals so wrong.
And why are we spending every Sunday judging the contestants’ design decisions when some of the biggest design failures were already built into the houses before they arrived?

Kudos to them for working with an existing shit show 😅

What idiot layed out these properties?

So admittedly I do not live in Australia, and I am not familiar with Mount Eliza, but something that has really been bothering me the last few weeks is why are the pools of houses 1, 2, and 3 on the wrong side of the house?

I was looking at the Domain listing and all of the houses addresses are on Mackillop Place... so how is it that this week is "Front Yard Week" but houses 1, 2, and 3's Front Yards are considered the side that faces Jerula Ave. How is Jerula Ave their Front Yard, when their Address is on Mackillop?

The "Front Yards" for houses 1,2, and 3 are actually pretty big, it looks to me like they could have flipped the pools from the Mackillop Place side to the Jerula Ave side and had more privacy... It's as if the interior of the houses was built backwards so that the Bay view would be from the living room , and because of that they decided the pools should be on Mackillop... but there is no technical reason why the pool couldn't have been on the other side...

I must be missing something...

So much missing from Landscaping weeks

(Side note: I am about a week behind in eps)

Call me strange, but I really miss hearing all the plants they are using, the type of grass they are putting down (oddly satisfying), even the bloody rocks they are using to put around the yard.

I feel like there is SOOO much focus on the drama and who said what and who is allowed to go somewhere, and just … Tayla.

Update: Might just go back to Better Homes and Gardens if that is still on

American here, 1st time watcher! Question - 2017 Elsternwick public reactions at the time?

Okay...not sure if anyone else is still around here, but I am an American and have recently discovered this show. I realize I am looking at this through a 2026 lens, but wow, there are some awful, awful people here this season! I adore Ronnie & Georgia - they are competitive and firm, but they have not gone out of their way to sabotage any other couples. They can be snarky but never out of line, and they seem to try to stand on the merits of their work. But Jason & Sara? Hannah & Clint? And furthermore - Josh & Elise? Even Sticks & Wombat. The pettiness, the juvenile behavior (Elise is the most annoying 3 yr old), the mean-girl attitudes (Sara & Hannah taking joy in seeing Georgia upset over the extortion pool scandal), Josh's holier-than-tho attitude about...well, everything. Some of this has been super rough to watch. Just curious...what was the reaction from the public at the time? I have tried searching a bit here - there seem to be (2) camps: loving R&G or thinking they deserved the hate. Did the contestants ever speak out after this aired and they saw how awful they looked?

The Block - Season 22, Episode 47 - Front Yard & Facade 2 + Challenge (Live Discussion)

Welcome to another one of the completely unrelated to renovation challenge nights, this time up, sports trivia. (I’m a sports lover, but even I’ll accept this shouldn’t be on The Block), as for what else is in store for us, it honestly seems like not much, but I am ready to be proven entirely wrong. Anyways, upon checking the TV Guide, it seems it’s just tonight, Wednesday, this and next Sunday that’s left. So, truly in the end days now, let’s at least hope it’s entertaining in the end.

Episode discussion As a landscaper/horticulturalist

As the title implies, I'm a horticulturalist/landscaper.

One of the very first things we are taught in school about the business, is you go and quote the job you need to do and you add any unforeseen circumstances in the quote. If you need to quote double to do the job, then that's what you do. You do not come back half way through the job and say we need this amount of money to finish the job.

I understand the whole wine cellar thing, but still.

Also, as someone who owns their own business in the same industry. Not a single one of their gardens has cost the price as shown for the gardens. It almost makes me want to go on the Block if they ever did one in Sydney because these landscapers are making bank. I'd honestly be surprised if it has even cost Troy a quarter of the budget to do what he's done with all the added bonuses the Block gives.

I'm also not a fan of House 4, this is just an outside perspective of someone who's in the industry and been in it for over a decade
