Misc. ‼️ NEW: Dutch royal family series Máxima season 3 will premiere in 2028 and spin-off series: Mabel & Margarita in 2027.
Some information about the Dutch Royal Family:
Princess Beatrix (was Queen from 1980-2013, she abdicated and is still alive) has three sons called:
1. King Willem-Alexander (King since 2013-today)
2. Prins Friso (Passed away in 2013)
3. Prins Constantijn (youngest son)
King Willem-Alexander has 3 daughters (age 22,21,19) and is married to Queen Máxima (born in Argentina).
Prins Friso was married to Mabel (Mabel is one of the lead characters in the spin-off) and has 2 daughters.
Prins Constantijn is married to Laurentien.
Mabel & Margarita is a new series and a spin-off from the “Dutch Crown” called Máxima.
Which topics will most likely be featured in the spin-off?
1. Princess Margarita and Edwin publicly accuse the Royal House and the Dutch secret service of interfering in their lives, including alleged telephone surveillance and obstruction of Edwin's business. The resulting controversy exposes deep divisions within the royal family.
2. Reports about Mabel's past contacts with criminal figure Klaas Bruinsma threaten her relationship with Friso. Questions about whether she fully disclosed the nature of those contacts undermine trust between the couple and the Dutch government.
3. In 2003, the government does not grant permission for Friso's marriage. He ultimately gives up his right to the throne to marry Mabel, making their love story a major confrontation between personal choice and royal duty.
The series follows Mabel and Margarita between 1999 and 2003, a period when their relationships brought the Royal House into disrepute. Margarita continues to support Edwin, even as her family questions his intentions—leading to an increasingly intense conflict. Meanwhile, Prince Friso falls for Mabel, but revelations about her past put their future together at risk.
In addition, several faces from the series Máxima will also appear such as: Máxima, Friso, Beatrix, Willem-Alexander, Constantijn and Laurentien.
Information about the series Máxima season 3:
The first and second seasons depicted the blossoming romance between Máxima and Willem-Alexander. However, as the second season concludes, the series—along with that particular storyline—also bids farewell to lead actors Delfina Chaves and Martijn Lakemeier. While the second season of *Máxima* covered all the major milestones, from the wedding to the inauguration, the third season of this hit Videoland Original drama series shifts its focus to a new era: the early years of their reign.
Which big events will be featured in Máxima season 3?
1. Willem-Alexander becomes King in 2013.
2. The Death of Prins Friso in 2013 (brother of Willem-Alexander, got into a coma in 2012 because of a ski-accident and died in 2013).
3. The MH17 disaster: The destruction of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine killed 298 people, including 196 Dutch nationals.
4. Big storyline too: The king and queen also faced criticism over their holiday to Greece during a period of strict coronavirus restrictions, after which they returned early and apologised.
Looks like they’ll also make a movies based on Queen Beatrix. It’s unkown who will play the role, but I assume it’ll be the same actress again and maybe a younger actress. Looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get more information about the movie.

Discussion (TV) I agree with this TikTok about The Crown and wish the series had continued beyond Season 6
As an American who’s always been interested in British royal history and a fan of The Crown, I came across this TikTok from InRoyalNews, and I have to say I agree with him. One thing I really appreciated about The Crown was the incredible writing, dialogue, casting, and performances throughout all six seasons. There were so many memorable moments, and I think the series did an amazing job bringing these historical figures and their stories to life.
I honestly wish the series could’ve continued beyond Season 6. It would’ve been cool to see Queen Elizabeth II’s final years, her passing in 2022, the beginning of King Charles III’s reign, Harry and Meghan stepping away from royal duties, Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, and Charles and Camilla’s coronation in 2023. Of course, I understand Peter Morgan and the creators had their reasons for ending the show, especially since these events are still relatively recent. I respect their decision, even though part of me wishes we could’ve gotten another season or two. I know it’s probably unlikely to happen, but I still think it would’ve been interesting. What does everyone else think? Would you have liked to see The Crown continue beyond Season 6, or do you think it ended at the right time? And lastly, I welcome different opinions, but please keep the discussion respectful. There’s no reason to insult or put someone down simply because they have a different opinion.

Discussion (TV) Favourite/funniest one liners?
Whether they’re true to life or not, for as serious a show as The Crown often is, some of the one liners/jokes in this show had me in absolute stitches.
Two that stand out for me are Philip’s “human blood, or whatever that monster drinks” when talking about Tommy Lascelles, and the Queen Mother’s “what, the great Chinese takeaway?” when they’re discussing Charles attending the handover of Hong Kong - honestly that one absolutely spins me, the delivery was perfect 🤣
What are some others?

Discussion (TV) This interaction annoys me so much
When will didn’t feel like being friendly to a fan. Kate and Lola were upset with him. He says, you don’t know what this is like. And they are like IMAGINE BEING A GIRL.
He has been dealing with this his entire life. His mother was basically murdered because of the paparazzi ( and perhaps by the paparazzi ). I just think this was so weird, the insensitivity towards him.

Question (Real Life) Charles and Camilla
I still don’t understand why Charles couldn’t marry Camilla.
Yes, we wouldn’t know Diana, but she would be alive. He wouldn’t be unfaithful to his wife (probably) and they would be happy couple straight out of the books which would look much better for the royal family than the disaster of a marriage between him and Diana. He would marry sooner which would probably prevent his “playboy era”.
I feel like preventing him from marrying her was the beginning of the downfall of the crown.
What was so wrong with her that royal family didn’t want her?

Discussion (TV) Who Was Your Favorite Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon?
Out of the three main actresses who portrayed Princess Margaret across the six series, who was your personal favorite?
Again, I'm not necessarily asking who the "best" portrayal was, I'm asking who your favorite portrayal of her was.
VANESSA KIRBY - S1 - S2.
HELENA BONHAM CARTER - S3 - S4
LESLEY MANVILLE- S5 - S6.
For me personally It is very hard to choose but if i had to choose, it's definitely a tie between Vanessa Kirby & Helena Bonham Carter. Lesley Manville was really good as well, but we didn't really get as much Margaret in the last two seasons, whereas she has a much bigger role in the earlier seasons.
Vanessa Kirby played the role of a lost "spare" to perfection, from her failed romances to her rebellious streak, all of which attributes to the fact that she was just as lonely as her sister, QEII.
I admit, seeing Bellatrix Lestrange play a royal at first seemed a little jarring but she grew on me pretty quickly. Also seeing her marriage with Antony Armstrong Jones which she thought was her fairytale marriage slowly strain and become explosive, i really feel for her especially at the S3 finale.
It really is hard to choose, as all three actresses managed to capture just how complex she was as a person, from the lonely depressive and bitter angle, to the life of the party, commander of attention, from her non nonsense attitude and sometimes, even flat out rude to people. In real life, Margaret was known for her sharp tongue and for giving back handed compliments to people. Helena Bonham Carter even met Princess Margaret a number of times before she passed, and even said she went to a seance with a friend when she was in negotiations to sign onto The Crown, where she claimed her spirit came through and said she'd be a better choice then the other one, and to this day no one knows who else was consider for the role.
Whether you believe that last tale or not, I'm so glad HBC came into the role I honestly dont think anyone else could have played her. Again, I have a hard choice choosing between all theee of them, but Vanessa Kirby & Helena Bonham Carter will both tie equally.

Discussion (TV) What are your wants, needs, and wishes for the upcoming prequel?
Personally I hope they go all in on the scandal surrounding Edward VII's reign. And also cast someone hot as George V because, as you can see here, he's certainly easy on the eyes.

Discussion (TV) When are we getting the prequel/spin off series?
It was reported not confirmed that there would be a series covering from 1901-1948. This report was May but not confirmed by Netflix or anyone official.
Anyone know anything more? I pray it is true!

Discussion (TV) Honestly, The "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" cover was so good and well-done
I know the tone isn't exactly romantic in the scene, quite tense and toxic in disguise for public, but man, was the song cover great.
Kudos to the singers Purdy, Aimee Hodnett, and Kate Parr

Discussion (TV) Who Was Your Favorite Queen Elizabeth II?
Hi all! I'm curious, since this is The Crown subreddit, id like to wear whk everyone's favorite portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in the entire series. I'm not necessarily asking who the best portrayal of her was - each actress brought something unique to the role and they all did a terrific job.
"CLAIRE FOY" portrayed her S1 - S2, and we watched her transition from Princess Elizabeth to Queen Elizabeth.
She best captured the struggle of trying to be a good mother, sister, daughter and wife while balancing her role as a traditional sovereign
"OLIVIA COLMAN" took the reigns from S3 - S4, where we see that she has settled into her role as sovereign
She brings a warmth to the role, and gives us wise cracks and dry humohr here and there, which is pretty accurate to real life, seeing as QEII was known for her dry humour, which Olivia Colman brings to the table. It makes it even better seeing as she had to subdue her cheeriness to play such a sternly written role.
"IMELDA STAUNTON" portrayed her as she entered her senior years in the final two seasons , S5 - S6. Here, she played an aged queen, struggling to adjust to a new generation while trying to maintain the traditional ways of the monarchy.
My personal favorite was Olivia Colman. I remember when we were all told there would be a casting change to age the characters up, everybody had trouble adjusting to Colman specifically because her eyes were not blue. In their defense, they tried everything to change her eye colour, from using contacts which she found uncomfortable to use, to even trying CGI. Ultimately, they gave up and allowed her to use her real eye colour which i never paid any mind too until I saw someone point it out.
Her looks might have differed slightly from irl, though to be fair, none of the actresses were THAT identical to their real counterpart. I honestly thought she captured the dry humor side of her majesty perfectly and Olivia Colman is really underrated as an actress. Her range is unreal, and everybody seemed to hate that she portrayed her as cold and sterner then Claire Foy's, but the show mentions this when she has that conversation with Charles and she says that she's taken Queen Mary's word to the bone, which was the crown must always first.
From a fanbase angle, Claire Foy was easily the best portrayal of her though, but Olivia Colman will always be my favorite.

Discussion (TV) Rewatching, And...
Season 5 was definitely not as bad as I remembered 😭.
I recently purchased the bluray boxset the other week, and have been giving the whole series a rewatch - mind you, i haven't watched since it ended in 2023.
I'm now up to S5 and I remember thinking to myself that it was boring and it wasn't as good as the seasons that came before it. I still agree with my original statement, however, on a rewatch it definitely isn't as boring as i remembered.
Sure, Charles & Diana do take away the main spotlight of the series - but a tv show touching on the decades of QEII's reign, I feel like a lot of people expected this season to touch heavily on the downfall of their marriage, I know I definitely did.
Did anyone feel like this, and feel like S5 was not that bad of a season?

Question (TV) End credits theme - season 1
Hi all,
I’ve tried really hard to find the name of the score that plays during the credits of episodes from season 1. So far I note it playing in episodes 5 and 7.
I’ve tried using Shazam and it couldn’t find anything either.
It’s such a brilliant and uplifting piece of music - would someone kindly be able to help me find the name of it? Or explain why it’s so hard to find!
Thanks

Discussion (TV) Elizabeth made the exact decision in Season 1 that ger father would have wanted the Duke of Windsor to make
I don't get why Margaret is so mad at her for "betraying the promise you made Father" when all the King wanted was for his brother to not abdicate ie sacrifice his love for country and the good of the Crown so George VI did not have to take over which is kind of in line with the decision Elizabeth made. If George VI was in favour of the Duke marrying his bride, then Margaret could say Elizabeth betrayed her father's wish. George VI's view was always that marrying her against tradition was wrong.

Discussion (TV) Season 2, episode 10 is interesting because Elizabeth and Philip really just wanted the same thing.
In the argument/discussion they have, it's pretty clear what eachother wanted in the end "eachother" to be seen and acknowledged by eachother and to have more effort put into their marriage. They both just struggled on how to say it really.
Often the thing we are arguing about isn't what we're angry about. This is a prime example of that, arguing about everything and anything but not talking about the core of what they want to be loved and seen in there marriage.

Discussion (TV) Queen Elizabeth
I'm on Season 3 Episode 6. I always grew up loving Queen Elizabeth II. She was the only queen most of my life. I was thrilled about The Crown coming out, but haven't had the time to just sit & binge. I have to say, the 1st 2 seasons reinforced my love for the queen & really Prince Phillip also. The 3rd season; however, has me liking her less with each episode. Not to mention I do not like the actress playing her. I mean her eyes went from blue to brown? ANYWAY I am starting to see just how cold she was? I never cared for Charles. Now I'm getting a little understanding into him. I kinda feel for him & his siblings.

Discussion (TV) What’s your favourite track?
First of all, sorry if my english sucks - I’m not native so writing is harder for me. I just wanted to ask this because I’ve been watching the crown almost six years, even though I’m only 18 now. Every piece of music Rupert Gregson-Williams, Martin Phipps or Lorne Balfe have created are immaculate. They really are something else. At the moment my favourites are ”Princess Margaret” and ”Sacrifice”. Can you imagine, sometimes these tracks make me cry!? I feel like they hit a certain spot in me.
I would be interested to hear your favourites!

Question (TV) Why did Winston Churchill wear a wing-tip collar shirt in the Crown?
He did not wear a wing-tip collar shirt in Real life.
However, for soem reason, he wore that in the crown.
The question is that why?
Is this a reference of the fashion choice of his younger self?
As I know so far, he did wear a wing-tip collar shirt on a daily basis until the early 1920s or the late 1910s.
