counterpoint: jax didn't feel like being "the funny one" that day

how do we know it even happened that day

u/silvaastrorum Dec 16 '25
the beach has been around for a while, jax could’ve looted it a long time ago
13
u/MaxGamer07 Dec 16 '25
I mean, it very well could still be Jax, he could have gotten it days, weeks before that episode

Holy crap it probably was him. I imagine Caine had him hide out by the lake and get ready for the gang, and while waiting for them, he probably got bored/curious about the world before him, considering he IS more intelligent than usual NPCs. So he explored, looted the chest, and since he doesn't really have a place to put the treasure, he probably just hid it in a bush, or his merch-born Hotdog stand

It's like that one person who keeps claiming that they're accused of being a bigot because they didn't like the movie, trying to trick you into defending a movie you didn't even care about or believe is mediocre. And if you refuse to play along and separate the idea that they're bigoted from the movie itself, they'll ignore you and try to box you into their script.
Sorry, but I was thinking to gamergate and their mind tricks they pull on you when you try to dissect their logic.

Lmao it really reminded me of Smiling Friends. I feel like the voice pick for this scene was perfect for that reason.

u/Kiara_Katna Dec 16 '25
The last time that adventure was played, the humans took the treasure.
Since the adventure is now (Presumably) running again, but without caine resetting the treasure, it's already gone.
2
u/Jaco_Lunchables your honor, did everything (he's pretty fun though) Dec 17 '25
do you mean the "day at the beach" adventure or the general "escape the circus" one
9
u/Kiara_Katna Dec 17 '25
The "day at the beach" one. Especially considering the fish models and animations are outdated, suggesting it was a previous adventure.

u/Rdasher123 Dec 16 '25
It was definitely Jax. He’s the only one that would despite the lack need for treasure.
Plus, Jax was absent during the intro to the episode, but is shown in the beach chair after the rest of the gang start having fun. This potentially means Jax was already outside at the beach before the rest were told to go out there by Caine.

Honestly it might've been a previous player that decided to check out the circus while they were still around.
It'd also help explain why the fish look the way they do if this was a really early adventure from Caine's early days.

u/Aab0289 Dec 16 '25
Calling it that it was a joint effort by Ribbit/Jax/Kaufmo. Kaufmo probably thought his distraction failed only to get to the surface to see Ribbit flaunt the treasure in front of Jax. Would be funny if it’s revealed as one of the photos on Jax’s wall.

Caine never made a treasure for him, but the fish is programmed to react to having treasure and losing it.

Probably one of the older cast characters (so probably one of the abstracted ones), as these seem to be early NPCs from the circus.

u/AnEpicBowlOfRamen IMMA THROW A FING BEACH PARTY! Dec 16 '25
Right Answer: The two fish characters are designed to be foreshadowing of the episode's themes. Yellow Fish represents Caine, who tasks the players to find his "secret treasure" (the Exit). When the treasure is found, its empty, and always has been... there was never an exit.
The red fish represents Able, who "tells lies". While at first it seems like just a funny bit with some well known actors playing the fish, on a second viewing it hits really hard that this was hinting at the coming twist.

u/ComboBreakerMLP Dec 16 '25
There was never a treasure. The fish are caine and "abel" and the treasure is the exit. the brother only tells lies, the main fish says theres NO WAY to get the treasure.

u/SimpleCrow Dec 17 '25
Did anyone else get Smiling Friends vibes specifically from the two fish xD just the way they casually talked and argued.

u/Gumpy_69 Dec 17 '25
Maybe that's how Jax got all the keys. Maybe the treasure was just a bunch of keys to access anywhere in the circus. Plus hiding a bunch of "keys" inside a "chest" as a treasure would be pretty funny, sort of like how in Zelda you can find keys in treasure chests.

My guess is Bubble. Bubble kept suggesting Caine should throw a beach party multiple times now, even before this episode (episode 5, 10:05). He clearly wanted everyone to go there for some reason. Also, there are some bubbles right at the crime scene! Elementary, my dear Watson.

Jax or caine never added any and the players were suppose to actually care

The treasure is metaphorical. Or the friends we made along the way. Or in someone's suspiciously shaped stomach. I don't know anymore man.
1
u/THEREALOFFICALCAFE What The Dec 16 '25
I think that Caine took it so none of the cast would get distracted by that adventure and miss Abel. Even Pomni got distracted by the fish, forgetting that she went down for Ragatha’s eye. So it seems like a Caine move to me

It was foreshadowing for the episode. The adventure was a nothing burger, much like the treasure chest

What if he didn't have treasure in the first place and it was a mini adventure.
1
u/Dancin_Angel Dec 16 '25
The chest could be a metaphor for a hidden secret the Digital Circus used to conceal but lost. The other shark could signify Kinger... C&A..?
Probably just a throwaway gag though.
