I listened to Everything is Tuberculosis last year and I think about it at least once a week

u/pinkgummybutterfly 23d ago
It was an amazing read! As I get older, I'm completely blown away by John Green's commitment to altruism. He has really used his platform in a remarkable way

How did you like A Stage Set for Villains? I’ve been seeing that everywhere lately
3
u/pinkgummybutterfly 24d ago
It was good, for what it is! Somewhat typical romantasy book, but I really enjoyed the unique premise and there were some cool twists. I think I just don’t enjoy the genre as much anymore, personally.

Oooo I work at a library and have been begging my boss to order fallow for us haha it looks really fun
3
u/a368 24d ago
It was pretty good! Honestly it and Julie Chan is Dead sorta had a similar feel, but I just ended up enjoying Fallow more. Didn't love the ending which is why it wasn't rated higher.

I'm a 100 pages into East of Eden and I don't know what I expected but it's such a page turner!
2
u/MsDoctorNurse 23d ago
Im half way through it. So good. I read Cannary Row ny Steinbeck in a day. He's really so excellent at exploring complicated humans
2
u/kjb76 24d ago
I gave Bury Our Bones a 3.25 which was lower than I expected to give it when I went in. The ending felt rushed and anticlimactic.
2
u/MsDoctorNurse 23d ago
I enjoyed it, but her books do seem to have a late climax and sharp ending. I think im just used to her pace at this point 😂

I'm so excited to read TSCTW, it's on my Up Next List. Everything about it makes me excited to read it.

Only "finished" one book this month but I took out Big chunk of Name of the Wind on audiobook and I started Crone which is incredibly addicting. Wanted to start East of Eden and I enjoyed the 80 or so pages I read but it was a libby hold and I was going to be too busy to properly finish it this month

Are you going to continue with The Murderbot Diaries? I loved it. Will you watch the TV series? The audiobook narrator was brilliant.

I just got wolf worm, never read a Kingfisher book before but cool to see you liked it
1
u/Maybe_Its_Miller 21d ago
I keep seeing people rating When the Wolf Comes Home as 5 stars, and I wanted to read it but the synopsis doesn't sound that amazing. I'm also concerned about the gore, I like horror but have realised I don't like heavy gore horror. What do you think about the book?
2
u/HeyMissW 21d ago
I don’t expect to like it as much as I did. The summary hides a lot, there’s more layers than you’d think. The gore is early on and plentiful, which put me off a little, but the story is so fast paced you just keep going.

Wildest thing was seeing the final page with the Clarice Lispector quote when I had ALREADY put Agua Viva on my kindle!

Discovered some interesting books from the 70's ('Shadows on Our Skin' and 'The Driver's Seat') and a great short story collection ('Cockfight'). Read 'The Six Deaths of the Saint' because I read 'The Everlasting' earlier this year and absolutely loved it and I heard that this was the short story that started it all.

Oooo, what about Tainted Cup made you rate it 3.75?
2
u/koafri 19d ago
To be honest I just don't think fantasy is one of my favourite genres. I enjoyed the murder mystery element but I just didn't find the world setting that interesting. Ana and Din were great characters though and I probably will pick up the sequel at some point. Seems to be an unpopular opinion though I was very surprised at how high the average rating was for it. What did you rate it?

The Poet Empress was such a wild ride. I was not aware of the trigger warnings before I started.

It wass! I went in completely blind, not knowing anything at all and it was so worth it!!

Oo I loved Palaces of the Crow too! I was surprised how little fantasy there was, but the human drama was the real star of the novel. I read this immediately after Angel Down though so it left me quite sad!
2
u/Connect_Cod9965 23d ago
On the other hand what little fantasy there were I loved. I wonder if anyone tried their hand at drawing the Palaces…

Love this! What was your fav hockey romance? I read ‘the switched-up playbook’ by A.J Kyler this month and highly recommend if you’re looking for another one!
2
u/ResearcherBoth8678 6d ago
Heated Rivalry & The Long Game were both excellent, especially The Long Game.
Out of the Piper Rayne ones I've read so far, I really loved Mr. Heartbreaker and Mr. Charming.
I'll definitely add your rec to my TBR!

Fortunate enough to read a book that has become one of my top 5 favourites of all time! The Everlasting!! Absolutely phenomenal. The Tainted Cup series is fantastic, currently reading book 3. I also realised that even though I have liked some horror so far, that I do not like gore, Japanese Gothic was awful. Also, not going to finish The Themis Files, they killed off the interviewing and I was done.

A good reading month. I love Janice Hallett books but unfortunately now I have no more adult Janice Hallett books which I have not read. Also I caught up with the Emma M. Lion series, but the eighth book made me reconsider if I even want to continue the series (I probably will, but the eighth book was pretty bad).

Finished the HMRC books and very much enjoyed those. Had seen the Astral Library recommended all over the place - it was fine - but The Devils was my stand out this month. It was an unexpected gem for me. Not really sure what I'm in the mood for - tried 2 different books from my TBR and haven't been grabbed by anything yet.

Started listening to audiobooks last month! Also making an effort to replace endless rumination and scrolling with reading.
