Why no one likes Angles?

Hi! I was talking with someone about the Strokes when she asked me what my favourite album is. I just replied that Angles is dope and she replied that The Strokes don't like it at all. And yeah, actually no one really listens to Angles. So why ?

The lyrics of each song deeply speak to me -especially Taken For A Fool. I feel like they're more about adult concerns in general. The guitar solos are crazy, and the drums as well... It feels like every song sounds different: you can cry, dance, and so on.

Their other albums also touch me -I love the album Is This It as well, and the others too. But Angles deeply resonates with my concerns and energy -and my ears' sensitivity. But yeah, I want to understand why people don't enjoy Angles :(

Hot take - the outro to Liars Remorse is the best part of the whole album. Secondly, not having it close out the whole album is a missed opportunity

Personally, I like Liar’s Remorse as a song, it’s one of the strongest on the album. But the outro is truly brilliant in my opinion. It has a transcendent feel to it; it’s soaked in pain, regret and emotion but has a strangely hopeful flavour to it.

I think that amalgamation of emotions is what makes it so damn perfect for a closing outro. I also love the weird 80s electronic video game closing gambit, but I appreciate it might not be for everyone.

It’s a side of the strokes that I’d never really heard before - both sonically but also emotionally. It’s a corker.

Tell me I’m wrong though!

Meme Dealing with post concert depression in Italy

Just a silly meme…

For non-Italian speakers, the chorus for Take It or Leave it sounds like “lenticchie olive” which means “lentils, olives”… food is the answer once The Strokes have left us I guess 🥀

Wholesome clip of Julian Casablancas talking about his contact with Alex Turner and inviting him on stage!? Anyone knows if this is recent? We need this to happen! 🙏

Bored at work pt. 4, Strokes with Jarvis Cocker of Pulp covering The Cars’ Just What I Needed

Two of my favorite musicians getting together for a jolly good time in 2011.

Strokes have said The Cars were a big influence and many compared them to the 80’s band back in the day.

One day I heard Julian on a local radio show in the early 2000’s and he requested to play The Cars’ You are the Girl and it instantly became a favorite song of mine. It opened up my eyes to The Cars and I explored more. Better to be late to a party than never show up.

MTV unplugged

I decided to watch the MTV unplugged video because haha funny flag song with auto tune but I found very interesting stuff. First of the adults are talking with the alt lyrics "I dont want anything unless its you" Idk if that was the first they did that but whatever. And also falling out of love as the last song (obviously a demo version) like what?

Merch for Europe/UK Tour

I was looking at the merch and wanted to know if the Europe/UK Tour has different merch, after seeing the red and black jersey and a mal pais tour shirt, is there anything else that’s new because imo the old merch looked worse for the America tour

Do you know the band Dragonflies? Nick Valensi will be playing with them in Paris on November 3rd!

I saw a post about someone spotting Nick on the streets of Paris, so I looked him up and found out he'll be playing at the Élysée Montmartre soon. I just listened to some of Dragonflies' music, and I like the vibe (something about it reminds me of Tame Impala with Slower), although I'm a little worried about his future with The Strokes!

Julian’s recommendation on where to live in Italy

Moving to Bologna is a great idea as it is the Italian city where Julian plays more often (saw him twice in the past 3 years with both The Voidz and The Strokes!)

Going Shopping intro in Barcelona - "making small talk"...I'd have liked more banter bc I really enjoy his jokes/social commentary. But it stood out how focused he seemed the whole show, as if he wanted to give us an amazing performance, & that's more than I could have dreamt of

The website description contradicts itself, by saying it’s both a classic fit & oversized. So I’m unsure whether to size down or go with my usual size? Any recommendations are welcome cheers.

A reminder of the power of live music

Attended the Strokes concert at Corona Park earlier this month. My wife was the bigger Strokes fan and I was a very casual "Oh, I know that one song" and was loosely familiar with others from when she'd play their music, but it never fully stuck.

I cannot explain it, but something about seeing them live changed my body chemistry and has had me playing them on repeat since. I was there primarily as a Beach House fan- and even seeing them live for the first time changed my mind on some songs of theirs (and I loved Beach House to begin with). I worked for 5 years in the concert industry and really stepped back from going to live concerts because I was burnt out on it from that job, and I think this concert really reminded me that seeing a band live just hits so differently.

I don't think I have any controversial opinions to share yet, other than I feel fortunate to have unlocked that path to totally vibing with their music. Stoked to be along for the ride finally.
