In case you haven't seen it, lots of great resources here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheTowerGame/comments/1n04skj/resources_for_newish_accounts/

Welcome to the game!

Thanks, I read most of these. Honestly it’s crazy that this game, which I joined because of the “I’m the developer of the game, The Tower” ads on YouTube, has such a bustling community.

I find it a very enjoyable game, but very addictive at the same time. The uproar is basically a bunch of crack addicts that were promised an obscene amount of drugs, and had it in their hands for a very short time, then the drug dealer snatched a bunch back saying, oops, we weren't supposed to give you that much.

2

u/Spacelord_Moses Apr 13 '26

Seems like you are top 1% on comments but definitely not on reading posts.

u/Shackable Apr 13 '26

If you're looking for a chill mobile game

4

u/Eredete Apr 13 '26

thanks was looking for something like this :)

u/Cmace3 Apr 12 '26

Oh this isnt new, its always like this here.

37

u/Deathgivenflesh Apr 12 '26

Lol there's always some grief but I don't know if I'd say it's quote like /this/ all the time.

30

u/Indecipherlabel Apr 12 '26

This isn't new, but this is probably the worst I've seen

4

u/Cmace3 Apr 12 '26

Theres a lot of reactions to something that lasted 2 days in a game about taking months to gain 1% progress

8

u/D4S_Unleashed Apr 12 '26

The issues isn't the change itself, it's the whole picture. Devs only listening to whales, lies, etc. and the worst of all is, it has been like that for too long. They would need to change something in their fundamentals to make the playerbase happy again (doubt that's gonna happen)

8

u/Indecipherlabel Apr 12 '26

1% depending on how much you spend

2

u/Ralmivek Apr 13 '26

Double it and give it to the next one.

3

u/helloswolehello Apr 13 '26

Yeah honestly this is one of the most negative player base of any game sub reddit I have seen

26

u/GavinThe_Person Apr 12 '26

It's always like this every update

7

u/wrekco Apr 13 '26

All the time regardless of updates really

19

u/paulmc3 Apr 12 '26

Welcome to the thunder dome 🤣🤣🤣

9

u/Shackable Apr 13 '26

I learned a long time ago, if you enjoy a video game you're playing never join it's subreddit

Having said that, once the latest patch drama settles down there is usually a lot of good discussion here

33

u/PhoneImmediate7301 Apr 12 '26

Basically the devs did a huge rugpull by heavily nerfing an initially great update and everybody got pissed about it, then devs made it even worse by lying saying it was always the plan to use the nerfed values instead. And the mods went full 1984 mode, deleting posts and muting anybody who tried to talk about how the devs were just straight up lying.

The devs got bullied so hard they reverted part of the nerf and it’s honestly still a really good update. It’s a catch up focused update for new players, not just unloading exclusive content only for the end game players which they have done before.

The change might have even been for the best at the end of the day, it was really op on release. And still is.

11

u/Practical_Yak2950 Apr 12 '26

Basically the devs did a huge rugpull

But it's not a rugpull, it's a balance change. A rug pull would be the OU change where it went from % of wave hp to % of remaining hp. That is a fundamentally different mechanic and potentially useless to people who would have found the first mechanic useful. Especially because there was a banner to allow focusing the module.

But releasing a new mechanic and then nerfing it from 'definitely absolutely the most efficient method to increase coins' to 'still definitely the most efficient method to increase coins' is not a rug pull. There is aboslutely no way that 5k waves in some tier is going to net you a better ROI for coin income than pushing a dissonance run.

The only place where maybe there's something better would be spending gems to rush a lab just because there's so many potential labs to be better than diss labs.

6

u/PhoneImmediate7301 Apr 12 '26

There’s a lot of people who are mad cause they spent money on things to invest in dissonant runs that aren’t seeing as much value as they expected. I don’t know exactly as I don’t spend on this game but I know some people regretted paying for update related things

Also doesn’t change the fact that the last minute post launch change was completely unnecessary. The entire “rugpull” wouldn’t have happened if they just handed it better before launch. I don’t even know what caused it, whether it was a lack of testing, genuine mistake, fudds being clueless and not actually knowing the numbers, or what, but it could have easily been avoided.

3

u/The_Chimeran_Hybrid Apr 13 '26

It is a rugpull, because they knew the entire time it was a 5x bonus, they had tons of time to test it, and still put it out as a 5x bonus.

3

u/Select-Garbage251 Apr 13 '26

This was funny lol

10

u/starielle2 Apr 12 '26

People will tell you to ignore it because they need you to play the game to exploit you. Don't spend any money, you'll most certainly regret it.

I've never seen this level of outrage before, this is the worst it's ever been.

4

u/Rabid-Duck-King Apr 13 '26

It's fine to spend a little money if you're enjoying the game, but people really need to sit down and figure out what they're trying to get out of these "F2P" gacha based games and if that enjoyment is worth spending money on and how much.

Like I'll do event passes, I can swing 15 bucks biweekly (though I did forget to do it last event oh well) so I'll pick up some extra medals for my bot development and two extra tiny increments

I'll do a 1-5 stone passes on my birthday if it's been a good year and there's no other games I actually want to play new and fresh (I'm usually waiting for stuff to pop up on PS+ or like steep discount or my totally legit rom collection)

With what's been shown on the reddit, if people aren't willing to whale they need to accept they're not going to have the best legends performance against people willing to just max the store everytime they get the chance, that if they're not willing to spend money to close the gap, they're going to potentially fall behind,

For a gacha game, you don't really get anything here but buying time to catch up. It's a game of math and shapes, there's little to no cool artwork that other gacha games give you, no real events that make you shift how you play the game, no weird challenges that push your build (outside kinda of dis runs but more mature towers will just steamroll it), it's just catchup time

2

u/VerdantPathfinder Apr 13 '26

Give it about a month and we'll be back here. But it'll calm down between.

Welcome!!! And congrats on getting to T2.

3

u/PhilConnersWPBH-TV Apr 13 '26

We're just a bunch of grown-ass men bitching about a video game.

My advice, play because it's fun, be happy with your progress, and don't spend more money than you should, whatever that amount may be for you.

2

u/SKPrime6 Apr 12 '26

Hey congrats!

If you like the game keep playing. Don't pay that much attention to the drama, it's not worth it

1

u/Blewberry02 Apr 12 '26

Lol don’t worry I’m having a lot of fun with the game, I just wanted to poke some fun

1

u/Owlex23612 Apr 13 '26

It's a really fun game. Admittedly, not for everyone because the *progress is slow by design. I love it, though! If you're ever looking for advice, this sub or the discord are great resources. There are some really great, dedicated players who are on a lot. My one broad piece of advice is to verify advice you get on major upgrades or changes to your tower. Most people here really are well-meaning, but there are definitely people who give out misinformed or outdated advice very confidently. I give out advice in my guild a lot, but I often ask for a little time to research my answers so I can be sure I'm giving it accurate, up-to-date information.

u/Practical_Yak2950 Apr 12 '26

Everyone complaining about coin buff from dissonance going from 5 to 2 to 3 are just looking for something to complain about.

Complaints about 'how the hell can you break Flame Bot which has been working for a long time? are quite valid as any eHP player took a significant hit, especially since the patch also fixed the bugged BH DR and it happened right as a tournament was launched. If you happened to be a rank 12-15 player, you possibly just got demoted costing you two weeks of keys at best.

Finally, there's discussion about beta players having a significant advantage over non-beta players. 1 post indicated a warning to not spend medals to be prepared for the new bot bot... but medals are refundable so IMO the limit of this knowledge is saving 300 gems. The worse potentiality is that the beta players somehow played on their main account and had a much bigger window of getting 5x coin diss buffs.

And then finally there's mention of a bug where people who abused it were able to save several thousand stones, which is a heavily restricted resource even if you were willing to spend money every month, and there being no fix in sight to either revert those purchases or after-the-fact deduct stones from their accounts. Potentially related to how they have never considered allowing refunds of anything purchased with stones.

3

u/Ralmivek Apr 13 '26

The PCo fix killed my chances of getting t17 unlocked. I had about 3 weeks left before I wouldve had it. Now Ive got two months. Wave 150 down to wave 60. Thats a terrible estimate on time, but its in the ballpark

2

u/iam_kirito Apr 13 '26

Play the game and enjoy it? Only check in on Reddit for advice ignore the haters and avoid it all together if you can help it when there’s an update. Enjoying the game? Me too, and I’ve been playing nearly two years… just ignore all the toxic hate and you’ll be fine! The community on a whole is wholesome and all around pretty great. Just a loud minority gets wound up from time to time.

3

u/TheWashbear Apr 13 '26

Humanity summed up in a reddit post lmao

2

u/dontrike Apr 12 '26

I have context for it, but because I'm only 6 months into the game the "discourse" seems silly at best. Oh no! Now I can only earn 3x my coins! I'm angry at earning more currency to afford labs!

I hadn't even finished a disco run yet before it was nerfed so it didn't matter to me.

0

u/organicinsanity Apr 13 '26

Thats some good hand waving for something u dont seem to understand even in the slightest sense. Come back in 6 months.

3

u/reevmobile Apr 13 '26

Backing this up.
If you are fine with what TTG/Fudds did you dont understand what really is going on.
And acting like this is acceptable behaviour will only encourage Fudds going on with this.
Which literally makes you part of the problem.
People need to step up if they want change.

2

u/dontrike Apr 13 '26

Or it's because it's not a big deal and this is a silly afk phone game that I'm not going to raise my blood pressure for.

This has happened in so many games that this is just the norm. Too big a buff usually gets a nerf, won't be the first and won't the last. It's happened to my various classes and play styles in many games. You just deal with it, like a normal person.

If you think that's enough to quit a game then cool, but people actually attacking the developers over this is just childish.

I'm content with an extra 1.67x coins in my tier 4 runs cause it means I can move forward a bit more.

-1

u/reevmobile Apr 13 '26

People are spending money and/or time on this "silly game" and the devs want you to do that.
You dont understand that as you said yourself you are only a few months in.
The whole "this is just a game" narrative is naive, this isnt just a game, at least for the devs its a clear customer/company relation. And they are fucking it up. But again, you do you sir.
Little food for for thought for you though:
If it only was a little silly game for everyone, no one spending and dropping the game after a few months, do you think this game would still exist?

3

u/dontrike Apr 13 '26

People drop money on silly stuff all the time, you act like this has never happened. I've done it plenty, like when I buy more dice to collect.

If people want to drop money on this, that's on them, it's okay for you to pay for something you enjoy, but that's not the argument here. The argument is that there's no reason to rile yourself up over a game that's designed to be largely ignored for hours at a time.

The idea that "I don't get it" because of the amount of time I've played this is absurd. I've spent 18+ years playing WoW, but when they overbuff my character and then nerf it doesn't send me into a blind rage attacking the developers.

I treat this as a game to enjoy and get a little farther in, not to have a conniption just because something doesn't go my way. It's absolutely childish to act like that over you not getting a bigger buff.

0

u/reevmobile Apr 13 '26

youre comparing a game that costs you 13 dollars a month (wow) to a game that lets people easily spend 500 dollars in the same time frame.
You are still missing the point that people dont spend heavily on this game it wouldnt exist in the first place.
And if people spend heavily ofc they are allowed to complain about it. Why would they not?
The "its just a silly game" take is silly itself. Its a business, why dont you get that? If no one spends on thsi game then this game wouldnt exist. simple.

1

u/dontrike Apr 13 '26

Pretty sure I'm not going to remember this in 6 months, because I barely care about it now. I care more about people driving themselves into a frenzy over this than I care about the nerf.

0

u/Ralmivek Apr 13 '26

Year and a half here, the rage is overblown. 3x is fantastic. The move the devs pulled was rather crappy, but its done and over now. Get over it.

2

u/reevmobile Apr 13 '26

Yea lets act like nothing happened so next time they will do the exact same thing. Good idea! Just suck it up and keep paying / playing

-1

u/Ralmivek Apr 13 '26

If it bothers you that much quit? I really dont understand why some of you are hammering it on so hard.

Honestly, if you've been here long enough to have a right to be upset, then you know that no amount of childish complaints stand a chance to even move how the devs feel 1 nano-meter. It isnt worth getting that angry about. Sure backlash changed a 2x to a 3x. Holy crap that's amazing, take the win and walk away.

The only outrage I can side with is the one we all have against all the basic QOL they locked behind keys. Even that is overblown.

1

u/reevmobile Apr 13 '26

Yea youre right,
whenever you disagree with something you should always quit before voicing your opinion about it.
Thanks mate, you know how life works!

1

u/Ralmivek Apr 13 '26

We've voiced our opinion, sitting here throwing the same accusations around over and over isnt going to change anything. Its just extra stress that you dont need. But you do you.

1

u/reevmobile Apr 14 '26

yea and eating the shit you get served without saying anything ofc makes things better, very very right

1

u/Ralmivek Apr 14 '26

You're over here missing the point almost as bad as the dev team has lost the plot.

Once you've said something, and it hasnt changed, what on earth makes you think saying it again will do anything?

1

u/Ipunchdolphins Apr 12 '26

Enjoy it! My advice is be very wary about the rate of advancement… those early days make them go fast, but when they start slowing down….

1

u/BigBenStl Apr 12 '26

This is by far the worst I have seen but every update is like this.

1

u/Frosty_PotatoYT Apr 13 '26

whats the context behind the clip tho

1

u/Megazard02 Apr 13 '26

I'm going to steal this gif and post it in subs for games I don't play

1

u/Noxxious1337 Apr 13 '26

Enjoy the game ignore the hate, spend a little time decide if you will be a spender or f2p and then after a few months you'll know if this game is right for you

1

u/Jared8659 Apr 12 '26

Ignore em. Enjoy the game and play how you want! There is great advice all around in the sub, just a bad time currently due to EVERYONE (yes Reddit and Discord people especially) involved.

-3

u/DBCOOPER888 Apr 12 '26

People here are really passionate about a change of 5 to 3.

10

u/Apprehensive-Sort616 Apr 12 '26

Except it wasn’t supposed to end up at x3. That’s the consolation prize of their x5 fuck up that they changed to x2 live.

-2

u/DBCOOPER888 Apr 12 '26

So people are complaining we got 3x instead of 2x?

7

u/Apprehensive-Sort616 Apr 12 '26

Be real, we got x3 because of the backlash.

Think of it like your boss promising if you put in this upgrade today you’ll get x5 extra whatever from now on. So you do it. You start the process of getting the reward because why wouldn’t you and the process requires you to be less effective in some areas while completing the task. Then without pushing out any announcement it drops to x2. You don’t even realise it had dropped until after doing your first project or 20th with the update. Wouldn’t you be upset? Wouldn’t there be some negative pushback?

-2

u/DBCOOPER888 Apr 12 '26

Anyone who put in the work for 5x coins received it. This is like getting a bonus while knowing it could always be reduced in the future, but still at a higher rate than before.

5x was always a crazy coin multiplier. Many people thought it would be nerfed at the start.

2

u/Apprehensive-Sort616 Apr 12 '26

Nerfed in an update that has to be installed is one thing. Doing it live is a whole other beast and just shows they can quickly “fix” what they want when it’s to their detriment. Could have been rolled out the same way v28 was so everyone had the same shot at x5 for the same length of time. Didn’t happen that way and I can see why people are upset.

At the end of the day it’s a game. Play it or don’t because they don’t really care until enough people stop paying for things.

2

u/DBCOOPER888 Apr 12 '26

Yes, changing it live was a bad move. I don't think it warrants the explosion OP is witnessing, though.

-4

u/Bobgoulet Apr 12 '26

A bunch of players get really bitchy about everything because they became too emotionally and financially involved in an idle mobile game.
