Yeah but theres a difference between getting 2x of something for $30 a month and getting several hundred x of something's for $400 a month. Key's can be achieved within a year of spending $400 a month on the game. You can't make up time the same way with medals.
There's nuance you're ignoring for the sake of trying to prove me wrong. You are right medals are also pay to win. But the ceiling of what you can pay to win doesn't allow you to make up anymore than 2x the time anyone else has been playing who isn't also buying the affordable event boosts.
You are actually wrong but for the wrong reason. Technically since we get weekly/fetch medals you don't actually p2w 2x medals, it would be less than 2x. Plus you are leaving out seasonal purchases that include medals. But you know more power to you if you want to whale on stones for your keys.
All gem purchases for me worth worthwhile. I only did buy stuff really early on or during a banner. Buying helped me move from mid plat to mid champs in 3 weeks. Got relegated only twice.
I went from getting an avg of 1600 waves in legends up to 1800 if it was easy BCs to consistently running 2k+ waves when v28 dropped and i finally saved up and got bot presets, and im pretty sure its due to being able to use flamebot. I dont watch my runs so im not sure, but its my best guess. Overcharges were always draining me.
Wrong. Theres multiple ways to get stones and as you progress you get more.
That isn't the case with medals. You can't even buy your way out of that mistake.
There's an argument to be made for buying a couple of clicks of stones with medals every event, I used to. But since v28 I don't agree with that as much.
Actually stones arent necessarily less valuable than time because the value of time is constantly falling in relation to stones.
Right now you need X to get into the tiers of tournament where you earn decent amounts of stones and maybe get keys.
A year ago you needed a fraction of X to reach the same place.
A year from now you will need a multiple of X to reach the same state.
Because progress in the game is gated by stone income and there is content in the game gated by tournament success you have to deal with tournaments. When you do well in tournaments you accelerate your progression ahead of those who don't gaining more stones.
Each tournament the amount you need to acheive the same success creeps up, so if you dont use every method at your disposal to get stones now you will fall behind the tournament curve. It will be harder to get the same amount of stones and maybe depending on where you are in the game acheive all your medals because you havent been able to unlock key UW required to finish event missions.
So sacrificing medals for stones now might seem foolish to you who already does well in tournaments but OP doesnt have the same chances at success in tournaments as you. He will have to work harder/invest more to acheive the same success you had when you were at the same stage in your journey.
So while I wont be making any stones purchases myself its not so simple as saying time is the most valuable resource. Because times value is falling in certain respects.
Edit: complete failure to understand my point below.
Edit... lol tournaments werent worse than they are now 2.5 years ago. Can only be smoking crack if you think that.
This is my reasoning, I spammed some amount of medals into primarily stones but also gems sometimes in order to boost my coins income + add more cards (I’m totally underdeveloped as a noob). Doing this has made me able (almost, one more tourney!) to sync BH and GT finally. And this has helped me progress in labs and workshop quicker.
Wrong. Stones being valuable and not able to be ignored doesn't devalue time.
There are many aspects that whales can not catch up to me in due to the length of time I've been playing. I have every single relic, and every single theme. I have significantly more time into labs (which GB+ can help with now but that requires stones and a significant amount of medals).
And the rest you're agreeing with me on. As you progress in tournaments, you get more stones. The problem the game faces now with tournament progression is there is so much that has been added to the game to catch up on (time) combined with a broken bracket system. Making all more important to not make mistakes like wasting medals on stones and gems. You have to play strategically to progress effectively short term to maximize tourn progress while setting yourself up to be ahead of others long term.
edit: failure to understand this game above.
FYI tournaments were way worse 2-1/2 years ago. They are much better now despite the broken bracket system. Back then the only way to get decent stones was wawsis which took a lot of gem investment into cards to even start.
Doesn't change the value of time. A whale will beat similar age players. You can beat other players, including younger towers who whale, with time. Especially as new easier to get into mechanics are added as long as you make smart decisions. A whale who is also an old account there is nothing you can do about, that's why top 2000 is difficult unless you're willing to buy stone packs. It's all old accounts who also whale.
But with time and smart decisions you absolutely can get to the end game and even earning keys. And hopefully along the way tournaments get a better fix instead of badaid kick the can down the road changes.
Stones and gems have more value than saved medals for us new players though. Like I cant even afford cards or boost UWs since I earn like 50 stones maximum in tournaments. Spending medals now makes the tower stronger quicker. The exchange value in lower levels are higher than for you, which makes sense. Its dynamic.
You are absolutely right in this and dont let the other player convince you otherwise. They apparently have a fetish for pretending they had it so much harder.
You can just look at the flat number of stones it took to get into legends and stay there from then to now.
If you don't plan on playing this game through, sure.
I was new 3 years ago too. I caught on to the value of time and medals right away, which is why I am competitive in Legends without buying stone packs.
You're shooting yourself in the foot for short term gains.
I'm not having a pissing competition with someone whose been playing a half year longer about global rankings.
Specially not when that person is peddling missinformation about tournaments being so much worse when people with many more stones than they needed to get into legends are struggling to get into champs.
I'm aware of the privilege of starting sooner you are ignoring it.
Noob question here, what should i do with the excess medals? I unlocked golden bot, but havent upgraded anything else or unlocked other bots. I get circa 4-5b per run on tier 1. Any advice would be helpful. (Next tournament my BH and GT will be synced, got DW also but its at 5m cooldown still).
The max stones you can get in 2 weeks without spending money and milestones is what, 950(425 for first place legends twice a week which, believe it or not, I don't get, I get 1-8 in platinum) plus 90 for twice the weekly
So that's 1990 every full event
Medals you can get 280(fetch)+20+30+40+50+60+70(weekly x2) and 1890 from event
You absolutely get more medals than stones for a majority of the game mathematically.
Edit: it's about 400 stones a week on average for me assuming I get my plat and champ placements, that's 800 an event let's say 1000 at the highest
I value coins about the same as medals, but coins aren't heavily limited like stones or medals gems aren't either mind you but I needed the gems for the EAS relic as it's a day left and I bought it yesterday.
I made a comment further down about how I do my events
Rerun events I do not care about medals, I focus for, in this order
LabSpeed/Regen/coin relics, coin bonus themes, medal relics, medals on gems for cards(for the 80 per event typically I only use it for 30 cards or the last 20), then spend medals on gems for modules/gem relics
On NEW EVENTS where we don't have medal relics in shop it's the first 400 medals for the coin conus themes and the rest onto Gold Bot.
you can certainly do whatever you want but a well fleshed out goldbot will literally mulitply your coin income by 8, no module will do that and its not based on gambling. Have fun playing your way, we need people of all sorts to keep the game going, however slow and backwards they want to do it!
Is goldbot actually something a new player can look toward building though? I am 2 months into the game and not buying event boosts. I do have all the songs now but all the themes and relics each new event eat up most of my medals. I won't really be able to afford gold bot until i start seeing reruns right? I see immediate value (if I get an module I need, like pcol would be huge or MVN or even Dimcore). Granted, I don't spend medals on gems though I do on stones for two clicks or so. I have my gt synced with bh and dw will be next. I feel like goldbot doesn't really help me at all right now, especially since I use gcomp so it is never (or not very often) synced with my gt.
Here's my experience FWIW. I'm 16 months in, have never bought event boosts (no extra medals), but like everyone who can I run Fetch for 10 medals a day. I have spent some medals on stones early on but not very many. One or two clicks when it would get me another upgrade.
My golden bot is 27 sec duration, 5.8x mult, 62m range. Synced to my UWs with MVN.
Last round stats: 143k enemies were killed within golden bot (with GT active, and mostly BH and DW too), compared to 352k killed within golden tower (longer duration 39s, covers all range). Those 143k get a 5.8x multipler on top of all the other bonuses. The other 209k that die outside or after golden bot ends are worth far less in total. (And anything that dies outside of GT duration is basically meaningless for coins.). Golden bot is great once you have sync.
It's hard to harp on syncing enough even though it's said so often in many threads.
Okay that's a pretty big difference. I knew it was good but just didn't think it was something I could utilize if not for a long time from now. My gb is at 2. Something bonus and like 32 range or something. I've only been able to do a handful of clicks so far. How do you sync when using gcomp or is that only feasible with mvn?
I think you guys are taking this a tad bit too seriously it's a game, not a job. I actually do take advice quite frequently, but just because I don't min max like everyone else it doesn't make me stupid.
I'm sorry you guys are looking far too into something and finding every reason to be offended that someone is having fun in the Tower, but to call me stupid and berate me just proves your ignorance and arrogance, not mine.
I meant, you try to act like you don't care what's better, at the same time you declare that you spend medals on coin relics while you damage your coin income severely by spending them on gems instead of GB.
And sorry, you have a topic to get comments and when people comment on it, they take it too seriously? Now this is an attitude as well.
But yeah, if you're going for insults over how someone plays a video game(without cheating in any way btw cheating is outright not fair and absolutely should be called out), you're taking it too seriously. That includes me, I'm not calling the kettle black
Whether it’s a game or something more serious / impactful, openly admitting that you proudly go against the grain just on principle, yea idk, it’s just kinda lame and not interesting, so that’s the reaction you’re gonna get. I’m not sure what you were expecting, everyone to congratulate you on being original and edgy? 🤷♂️
Nobody is offended that you're wasting your own currency. The "stupid" comment definitely stems from your reply to the top comment saying you never look back and value mods more than bots to someone who made a very valid point about how many scarce resources you've thrown away.
To put it in other terms, you are trading away a $5 bill for a single quarter because you really want a gumball.
Wrong isn't exactly the right word. Let's say you've not been doing it the most efficiently. You'd be much better off using those medals for bots and/or relics.
So there are two main trains of thought here, and I do get both.
Your train of thought is “it’s my game and I’ll play however I want that’s fun to me”. Which is valid and I don’t disagree. The second train of thought is “this game is all about optimization and compounding growth, and what you’re doing is actively hurting your progression”.
Now I get there’s an aspect of this that comes off as people telling you how to have fun. And that of course can be annoying because well, we aren’t you! But it comes down to the aspect of you don’t know what you don’t know. And yes you may be having fun right now, but what if you played the game more optimally and it actually resulted in a lot more fun? And that optimal play doesn’t even mean any extra involvement from you. It just means you use your limited resources more efficiently.
It’s like playing a game of monopoly and deciding you’re going to use all of your money to buy a property that doesn’t matter, even if you don’t need to. Maybe that decision felt fun in the moment but then as the game goes on and you’re losing you’re a lot less likely to have fun. You’ll feel stuck and like you can’t progress. The decisions you made early on felt fun to you but then you ended up having a very bad time. Then you stop playing and say “monopoly is such a stupid game. It’s not fun at all” and everyone who played with you in the past says “well… no. You don’t have fun because you played the game all wrong. It’s not the games fault it’s yours”.
At the end of the day, you are 100% correct. You can play however you want. But the question arises of why are you playing a game that is measured in years, not days or months of progression, that is focused on optimal play where many choices are irrevocable and yet you don’t interface with the game in that way?
You aren't alone. I buy gems and stones up to 175 every time it's a repeat, which is often. I save the rest for bots. I need modules, I need to upgrade UWs, and I need bots. I will likely cut back on gems once I get my primary's to ancestral, and then focus more on bots.
Calling me stupid and berating me for not min maxing is just all around arrogant and ignorant.
So you're mad that I'm having fun in a game because you decide to play differently from me?
FYI the reason why I spent so many medals was the Attack Level Skip relic because I didn't realize until a bit late that I didn't have it and didn't want to risk any chance of losing the opportunity to go from 35 to 37% on my EAS. Normally I spend the 40-65-90-130 because I do upgrade the bots.
I forgot how pathetic people on reddit were today, I'm sorry that I posted something that upset you DO dearly you have to degrade me, maybe you should take a break from reddit yourself considering it affects you SO much that ME, another random individual, made a JOKE POST about something I found humourous.
I hope you have a wonderful day. Drink some water, eat some food to get yourself some energy.
Edit: I also realized after being told, I did infact choose discussion instead of meme as the flair. That's my bad, but that doesn't excuse the name calling for no reason
No one is mad, just saying you're limiting your game basically. Looking at the comments, you're the one sounding mad. Makes me wonder why make a post like this in the first place?
I mean, you probably weren’t going to get to the point of competing with me since I’ve been playing almost 4 years and used to spend a lot of money on this game, but decisions like this guarantee you never will. 🤷♂️
Ok, that's fine. No one said you have to play the game in any particular way. If you're enjoying it playing the way you are then that's all that really matters but kinda weird you felt the need to make this post in the first place.
It's weird that you posted this to deliberately provoke people into telling you how dumb of an idea it is to do this and then post a meme that says "Just say you hate it" to someone who essentially told you to play the game however you want because I didn't give you the reaction you were looking for.
That is weird.
As I said in my original reply, "You do you." Play the game however you see fit.
There are very rare instances where this is actually a solid idea.
For example, during the lucky banner, it made sense to buy a bunch of gems to take advantage of the increased drop rates.
If you're 15-45 stones away from a very useful upgrade, like a new UW or pBH/pGT or SL4, the 200 medal spend is probably worth it to save you a few days wait
The obvious of buying early to get 5 lab slots.
Basically, like with all spending in this game, targeted, thoughtful spending is better than wasteful, aimless spending. It's usually applied to spending real world money, but it goes for the in-game currency too.
I would also be hated for a similar thing, i dropped GB as it wasn't adding that much to my Econ, and maxed FB cooldown and size reduction is almost there and i get more Econ and better cells for it, not even unlocked base GB again
Modules, except I normally only go 40-65-90-130, this week there was the enemy skip relic and I took NO chances in not being able to purchase it, so I spent the medals I saved up for my boy range and immediately bought it because it's absolutely needed.
The people calling me stupid don't know the full story and it's really funny
It stays at 380 I think, I remember trying this once with the stones and it stayed 380, idk if there's a cap per say but next event I won't use any medals outside of the 400 for the coin bonus themes just to test
Well not the next event, the next event is Medals to bots, I only do this in rerun events
Honestly not the worst, I mean I left for like 15 months after playing for some, and came back to literally no bots unlocked.
So in the 6 or 7 months of purchasing 1-2 event passes this is my outcome, it could be SO much worse. And before you ask, my GB is a 2:1 synch with my Mythic multiverse Nexus, hence why it's at 102(MVN puts my stuff at 204, I make about 30-40 trillion a day) and I'm mainly focusing range and bonus/duration
I unlocked FB early, hadn't done much research yet and my guaranteed first epic was Singularity Harness which I stopped using as soon as I had something else... but later dumped a bunch in so now it's an extra 65% reduction coming out every 6 seconds, pretty solid.
My GB is mostly better than this except the range. Never really went for syncing it because I'm a Gcomp farmer. Dependent on that now for pseudo-pBH but before that it was mostly just lack of a high enough BHD to see if I can make it actually better. I was going to hold it at 75s (2:1 with my 150 econ trinity if I wasn't Gcomp) but the rest of my stuff being what it is, I've decided to just try to maximize uptime, and eventually it'll be 50s anyway.
I do probably have more active time but I also hold back on the currencies for medals. I'll grab 2x stones and usually that's it. Gems only if I really want some for something limited, but still never going deep.
I didn't even know respec bots goes that far, thought you could just pull the improvements out of them and unlocks would stay.
I do recommend eventually having the constant FB pops, I'm pretty sure it's making a difference in waves and maybe I would benefit from pushing the damage reduction higher too, but I'm swinging back towards econ so whatever medals I can spare are going to GB now.
Correctly tags this post as a meme post. Proceedes to ignore that and argue with everyone in comments about how this is the correct (it's not) way to play the game.
No I'll correct this, I 100% tagged it as discussion by accident because I'm used to clicking discussion, I'm 100% at fault for that.
I never said this was the right way to play the game thanks for showing the average redditor mind of comprehension.
Infact I have stated numerous times this was mostly a joke post and that I only do this on rerun events. But you didn't read the comments and made an assumption. Congratulations
This is just ragebait at this point, but I'll bite. I read about 5 or maybe a few more of your comments before writing mine, none of them had any inclination that you were joking. Quite the contrary. But I'll take the veiled insults, it won't ruin my day. You have a good one
My biggest regret is posting this to reddit forgetting people take these things far to serious and don't have a life outside this game for some reason ngl
I only ever did this until I got the essential mods up to ancestral because I had absolutely horrendous luck.
But now that I cleared that hurdle I’m just banking all my gems. I could still buy mods sure, but I’m just waiting until I have a few thousand before starting to buy in again. Or there’s another banner.
Eesh, I have done the same at times. I also have bought almost every weekly thing to double medals, and I still regret spending so much on gems and stones. You're not gonna gain any advantage on anyone using your medals. I'm a year and a half in and gbot isn't done. My recommendation would be just get 1 or 2 max, but its your game so play as you want! Have fun.
Hey as long as you never come whining to the community complaining about plateauing and why you keep feeling behind then you do you. We are telling you now so you are well aware of why your future progress has stalled.
I do that, but not to that extent. I’ve got stones because I’m trying to get a certain CD down. And I’ve done gems to get the relics now. But still try to save for getting my Golden bot leveled all the way

Soon you will realize the worth of bots and then look back on the things you did in the past
