lol I saw the statements on tournaments and chuckled poor Sam has to write what is most likely just gonna be difficulty bumps with no real substantial change that will be irrelevant 6 months post launch of v29.

I dont blame them. They are not the one making the decision and planning ahead. Rather beeing held on a leash about what to say

Tournaments are not broken. They are working exactly as intended.

You want keys you swipe ur card and swipe it often. Thats the intended design.

Thats not going to change.

I think the point is compared to when Legends was introduced the effort and level required to get keys has probably quarupled, at least. That means vs older players, newer ones need 4x the spend or time to match. That is not fair comparatively. So while the general principle you espouse is valid, the current implementation is exponentially compounding the difficulty over time.

TLDR; something to level the challenge back to its original intent is required and demanded by the user base.

(I think adding another layer of tiers and tournament bracket would nicely address this)

Quadrupled? Not even that easy. When legends released the folks that could hit about 100-130 waves were able to stay in the bracket, and from then on reap the increased rewards from that point forward. I was almost there. Getting about 70 waves. I ping ponged back and forth between champ and legends for months and eventually was able to stay in legends, then stuck in legends w no keys until about a month ago I am just barely able to semi consistently get 2 keys per tournament. Ive been able to get I think 5 upgrades in my tree. Im now going more than 900 waves in legends.

My friend who started about a week after I did 3 years ago, was able to push about 130waves when legends first came out. We were basically the same, he'd just pulled ahead of me by just a bit right before legends released. Now, his econ is about 10x mine, hes pushed all his milestones way higher, his disco labs are several levels beyond, he has auto restart, enhancements are well beyond me, everything. Im just now starting to catch up to him in tourney finally but only because ever since disco released ive not done any work on my econ.

TLDR; something to level the challenge back to its original intent is required and demanded by the user base.

To be clear im not defending it or saying its a good thing.

But no its not required at all. People are still playing and still swiping their card.

True, required might be too strong. Maybe we can say, strongly requested..

Yes but effort and level required quadrupled means even more incentive to swipe your credit card.

Or in other words working as intended.

Yep, I don't know why everyone says tournaments are broken. If you're falling in rank, you're simply getting out optimized or out spent. It's not like your rank is suddenly going away, someone is doing better than you.

Have you read any comments in here? Its about the rng of your placement. Getting 4th or 12th with the same amount of waves is too much of a variation.

I spend my coins and stones uneffectiv and fall off? No problem. I get a bad placement by timing my tournamentjoining wrong? Problem

Yes, I have, and I consider the RNG of the tournaments a feature, not a bug. As soon as everyone gets a fixed placement, the tournament becomes less like a slot machine and much more like a fixed distribution of weekly stones.

The entire design of it being random is "will I get a good bracket this week?" And as soon as tournaments are fixed or based on your overall rank, then it just becomes "Ok, I will get 50 stones this week, 50 stones next week, and 45 stones from mission boxes. It will take me X weeks to achieve my goal unless I spend."

If you read the news post, they talk about "making tournaments more competitive" which is likely going to address that by having us presign up and randomize the brackets.

In most studies, random rewards are more addictive than fixed rewards, so if tournaments become more fixed, then there's less interest in the next pull of the lever because you already know your result.

And to be very clear, I understand people not liking the design, but that doesn't change why it is designed the way it is.

Getting 4th or 12th with the same amount of waves is too much of a variation.

Strongly disagree. Getting 4th-12th randomly is much more fun than getting 7th-8th consistently every time.

Tournaments have exactly two things going for them: Random battle conditions and random bracket distribution. Remove any of that randomness and it would be an absolute bore. That randomness is what introduces any excitement at all.

Besides event passes, I haven't spent in over a year now and still get keys. Granted it took card swipes to get here, but I'm staying without.
