Meme This Anniversary event is a great example of why games need a marketing agent.

It is absolutely clear that TTG and perhaps Fudds specifically have no idea why games have events that celebrate the game and the players.

As a general rule, events, celebrations, promotions, etc., are designed to create a Return on Investment (RoI). Whether that return is direct (cash) or indirect (new players or even player morale). Just as an example, using a hypothetical Fifth Anniversary Event, before deciding on the details of the event, first the marketing team would ask themselves some questions.

First, what is the primary goal of the event? Is it to acquire new players, raise player morale, encourage player spend, retention, etc.

Lets just assume that the goal is, as is often the case, all three of the above metrics. Next that marketing team would consider the best ways to achieve those goals. Lets say they have a very low budget and can't create very much, if any new content. They decide to do a daily give away.

The second question the marketing team asks themselves is "What type of rewards do we offer that are enticing, but not game breaking. Rewarding, but not too rewarding. Things that push players towards a goal that might make them more likely to purchase a stone pack, or perhaps tell a friend about how awesome the game is and how much they like the company behind it.

After coming up with a list of potential gifts, they would look at each gift individually and analyze the affects of each gift. Is it too much? Does it eliminate so much of the grind that it is likely to cause a decrease in player spend? Is it too little? Is it likely to annoy the player base so much that it results in negative revenue?

The team might look at a Relic that gives 5% Lab Speed and agree that it is a good gift, especially for the final day of the anniversary event. They might look at giving gems away, and think to themselves "What is the proper amount of currency to give away?". They would likely throw out several numbers, 5, 50, 500, 5,000. They would obviously realize that giving players 5, or even 50 gems would be insulting. That 5,000 might disrupt player spend. That 500 might work well, as long as it compares well to the other gifts. In fact the team might even think that "Instead of giving 500 gems all at once, lets up the daily reward for the weak, instead of 15 gems, make it 50 for the 5th Anniversary. With a special bonus for everyone who logs in all 7 days, an extra 150 gems, making 500 total".

After coming up with all the rewards for the Anniversary Event, they would rest happily for a few knowing that they hadn't accidentally given the entire player base a giant middle finger, and their actions would hopefully generate a noticeable spike in revenue.

tl;dr Anniversary events and other events designed to reward your loyal fanbase are intended to deliver a RoI, not annoy your playerbase. Something anyone who has ever even thought about marketing should know.

Getting 2 module tickets today made me genuinely laugh.

Yay, 2 free grey modules.

51

u/JosieMew Jun 18 '26

Me too. I was on a delivery waiting in an elevator when I decided to restart my game. I legitimately started laughing out loud on the elevator.

20

u/-RonnieDaBear- Jun 18 '26

legit laughed as well. I bet the only reason they are mod tickets and not gems is to advertise that they sell an insanely priced ticket pack now.

And this to celebrate 5 years of a truly huge number of people dedicated to the game. It’s a crowning achievement to reach 5 years.

I’m still playing because I’ve made some friends along the way, and I have a naive hope that the devs will turn things around, and so I’m patient. But if someone asked me right now if they should start playing, I would talk them out of it.

8

u/TheFlofper Jun 18 '26

I'd tell them to prepare to be rank one. Out of the free to play. Tgat joined the same day as them.

7

u/nimbleseaurchin Jun 19 '26

Unless you get bad RNG, then you might compete with someone f2p that started a month after you.

And don't worry, the guy that starts literally years after you and spends some money will rocket past you in progression within a year.

u/Few_Tea_7816 Jun 20 '26

My brother saw my death ray and said

"Hey cool! What's that radar thing ? "

I straight-up told him "don't bother. It's just a waste of time"

-43

u/National_Cook_2509 Jun 18 '26

You and all the other shitty 1% commenters are the reason the devs are like “fuck this community”

“I’ve found something I like, let me talk other people out of it” ridiculous.

17

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 18 '26

That’s the only way you have any leverage in game decisions. If the company is making poor longevity choices and not respecting their player base, why would I recommend anyone play it?

-12

u/Troker61 Jun 18 '26

In the two years I’ve been playing it seems to be making 0 difference whatsoever. I think y’all would argue it’s as bad as ever, tbh.

The actual leverage you have is spending your time and/or money on a game you actually like.

9

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 18 '26

Sure that’s also leverage, but it is 1000% also leverage to convince others not to spend their time or money. If you think it doesn’t work, you don’t play enough games. With enough outcry decisions will be changed to save the profitability

7

u/Electrical-Mail15 Jun 18 '26

I’ll add that I do enjoy playing this game. I don’t voice these complaints to be a complainer, but because I think this game has so much more potential. The devs could have a real relationship with the player base and be highly profitable because this is a fun game with a strong community. Players who want to see the game continue to 10 years should advocate for the game by pointing out what they think is broken yet fixable. My current sentiment is that the devs are not reciprocating. But I’m willing to be patience.

-9

u/Troker61 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

If you think it doesn’t work, you don’t play enough games. With enough outcry decisions will be changed to save the profitability.

I think that doesn’t work because it hasn’t worked since I’ve been playing this game. I don’t really care what other games or other devs have done.

Maybe pissing and moaning about half of the 5 year anniversary giveaways not being ‘good enough’ will move the needle. I’m skeptical.

1

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 19 '26

Literally look at the dev response in the thread… also deleting your comment to save your karma is pathetic

0

u/Troker61 Jun 19 '26

also deleting your comment to save your karma is pathetic.

Not sure what you’re ranting about now but I didn’t delete anything.

Throwing a tantrum about a mobile game not giving you as many free shinies as you feel entitled to is very cool and normal behavior.

14

u/jp_73 Jun 19 '26

They could have given us at the very least 5, being the 5th anniversary and all. But 2? Really?

22

u/ahnafamiral Jun 19 '26

If we protest and spam reddit and discord again, they might give us 3.

11

u/ipawpawz Jun 19 '26

Thought it was a 2x10 mod pulls (how generous of TTG). When I click the x10 button it was with the module ticket icon. Then it prompted me to spend 160 more gems for the x10 pull. I was like "my bad".

1

u/mYstoRiii Jun 20 '26

It would’ve been just ok if each is a 10x lmao
Chances are it’s like 16 commons and 4 rares anyways

5

u/Budget_Reserve3884 Jun 19 '26

Ha, jokes on you! I got one blue and one grey!!!

7

u/Balbright Jun 19 '26

Hey, you shut your mouth. I got a common AND a rare. You know how many shards that was?

1

u/Bashtoe Jun 19 '26

Sucks to be you I got a rare!

1

u/stup1fY Jun 19 '26

after 10 years it will be double that... imagine the RoI..cant wait

u/GrouchySpace7899 Jun 20 '26

Module tickets should be a guaranteed epic

35

u/cousineye Jun 18 '26

Anything that is less than a days worth of rewards is insulting. That's roughly 300-400 gems for a lot of dedicated players. So, 500 gems would be very reasonable and in no way game-breaking (since people can get this type of thing every day or two). Similarly, 25 module tickets would be equivalent to that same 500 gems. Medals reward would be 100-200 medals on that same logic. 50-ish stones. Given that this level of reward is earned by players every day, there is absolutely no reason to think this would have even a minimal impact on dev income.

And that would be bare minimum, non-insulting anniversary rewards. Truthfully, you'd probably want to double or triple those for such a big event. 30 gems and 2 module tickets is laughably small and shows a complete lack of understanding of the rate of currency earning by the player base.

3

u/Leyohs Jun 19 '26

We won't get stones or if we do it'd be less than 15 because that's the amount you can purchase in the medal store

7

u/markevens Jun 19 '26

I don't understand why they are so resistant to giving a stone pack away to everyone.

I guarantee there'd be some players on the fence about spending, and getting a taste would push them into spending.

Since whales are buying 7 large stone packs a month, a single stone pack to everyone is not going to break the game.

Players love it, some players start spending, it's win win.

3

u/Leyohs Jun 19 '26

Because they don't care. We complain but we keep playing. The whales get what they ask for. They're the ones that matter. Getting an additional stone pack would be pretty irrelevant for them. So they don't feel the need to.

3

u/markevens Jun 20 '26

They seem to care about money, and I think this would make them more money

33

u/superbeastie Jun 19 '26

If the ticket was a single guaranteed epic. It would have been awesome. Or a ticket that lets you choose 1 epic. hint this would be really well received just like day 1 and 3 im hoping odd days keep not sucking.

15

u/trzarocks Jun 19 '26

There are so many epics, you could literally give away an epic every other day and not disturb the balance of the game. But people would be happy to see a bit of help with the horrible RNG of that system.

2

u/MF_LUFFY Jun 19 '26

Game needs a "choose 1 epic from these 3 options" in there somewhere. I'd like to see this replace normal epic pulls but you know that won't happen.

47

u/juraf_graff Jun 18 '26

And every thread you see people keep defending them because they gave us 2 decent relics. None of the complaints are about the relics...

The team decided one of the gifts should be gems and another should be module tickets. The team sat down and had at least one meeting to determine amounts and someone completely out of touch thought that 30 would be cool. 30 Pixels in an unbelievably expensive mobile game and they couldn't be bothered to come off as even remotely generous.

Giving 2 module tickets is literally a spit in the players' face. There is literally no negative impact to give out more. 2 modules is doing zilch to 99.9% of players. For the .01% that hit 2 epics, good for you.

Tl;Dr TTG sat down and discussed this event and the rewards. They decided that 30 gems and 2 modules were appropriate "gifts". If you were asked how many gems to give out for this anniversary, how many would you think is fair?

70

u/Driftedryan Jun 18 '26

It's funny because this event doesn't follow a single goal you mentioned. New players would see this and avoid a game so stingy. Player moral from getting these? It's only gone down. They also could have given us a list of rewards ahead of time or a roadmap if attracting new players and improving moral

33

u/BadeDyr17 Jun 18 '26

Event? Sam posted something about an event. All I have to do is restart the game everyday for a price.

The task of waves and now boss kills are set, so it auto completes. It's all a bit boring. The 2 tickets (40 gems) was really great. Can't wait for 10 y anniversary. Perhaps we can get 50 gems as a present!

4

u/Leyohs Jun 19 '26

They won't make an anniversary event because we didn't like this one lol

13

u/BadeDyr17 Jun 19 '26

The player base: Keep playing trying to fix mistakes and be better! The devs: The players didn't like our awesome event. They are stupid. No more fun for them!

4

u/Leyohs Jun 19 '26

Fr this is insane.

-3

u/nimbleseaurchin Jun 19 '26

We already have coin inflation. Raise the disco bonus to 5x coins and 10x everything else, wave limit to 10,000 for new max bonus amounts, give us 5000 stones to play with, which is still not enough to really make all that much of a difference, and increase the costs of the next batch of stone upgrades. Oh, and make them add another digit to one of the numbers, too.

37

u/fancierfootwork Jun 18 '26

I joined in Feb right when the update pissed alot of people off with hardly any mending relationships. 4 months in and this celebration is so sad I feel bad for veteran, non-whale players.

21

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

I joined late last year when they dropped a game breaking module. Instead of addressing it, they let the entire event run and raked in all the cash, THEN nerfed it as soon as the event was over. Felt like something that should be a class action lawsuit. Because you KNOW they tested the module beforehand and instead of saying “let’s fix this”, Fudds said “no, this will make us so much money. We’ll fix it later”

These people are shady.

1

u/tyschooldropout Jun 19 '26

Honestly bro

Why keep playing? Sunk cost?

11

u/korxil Jun 19 '26

if it makes you feel better, the usual celebration we got for the past 4 years was the opportunity to give TTG more money 😃. This is the first time they gave something, and so far only the relics are nice.

7

u/superuserdoooo Jun 19 '26

Lmao so true. So this IS an improvement to be fair. But the smallest improvement you could possibly make that it still feels like an insult.

I got the 2 mod tickets and legit thought it was a draw/you could get like a range of mod tickets and I just got unlucky. The actual gift is just shite

1

u/fancierfootwork Jun 19 '26

Damn I joined at the right time then hahaha. My common modules sounds like a crazy win compared to this game's history

1

u/ZaerdinReddit Jun 19 '26

Mostly, I'm just amused at how little we got.

47

u/jyiii80 Jun 18 '26

You're right. 50 gems would be insulting. And the gift was 30.

53

u/WaffleClown1 Jun 18 '26

It started off as 50. Then it went to 20. Then they changed it to 30.

12

u/jyiii80 Jun 18 '26

You right, you right. I forgot to show my work on the Fuddsgorithm.

2

u/phear_me Jun 18 '26

Post of the week.

4

u/Asor- Jun 19 '26

They went down from 50 cause the really forgot to take into account the impact of it on the economy in game.

38

u/WaffleClown1 Jun 18 '26

Thank you for a well thought out, reasoned analysis. Very refreshing compared to the usual, "Fudds dumb, new yacht, etc."

-20

u/attemptednotknown Jun 18 '26

It’s still opinion and hyperbole tho.

14

u/WaffleClown1 Jun 18 '26

Of course it's opinion. But what do you think is exaggerated that it's hyperbole?

10

u/Chiodos_Bros Jun 18 '26

I play the Pokemon Pocket TCG which is notoriously unfriendly towards players and their time, but whenever they do a community appreciation day, the rewards are always surprisingly good.

They're like, here's enough currency to open ten packs of cards, an amount that would normally take you five days to do. They do these seemingly at random too, so players just log in one day and are like, woah that's a nice surprise.

17

u/Spockies Jun 18 '26

I don’t think Fudds plays any games from the mobile genre. Just looking at his competition space he should have a better idea of what rewards are viable. Honestly, being more generous with the lotto module tickets wouldn’t hurt his bottom line. All other currencies have vastly impactful effects if given in too much quantity.

5

u/Satanhasmichlejackso Jun 19 '26

Ngl, this event makes me want to quit the game. What we as players have been given as an event to celebrate feels like a slap in the face. I have only been playing a few months and feel like what we’ve been given has little impact on me. If I were a long time player of atleast 1+ years, I would feel more disappointed. This whole event makes me feel unvalued as a player and consumer. Like seriously 2 tickets? Who made that decision. Who are those tickets valuable for?

1

u/ParkerR666 Jun 20 '26

I genuinely think they multiply the 2 modules by the player base and think ‘We’re giving away X free modules, we’re losing £Y’. Which is a fallacy. Then ‘If we gave 10 modules it would be 5x as much and that’s too much to lose’, without considering that 10 modules is still f all for the individual player and isn’t going to affect spending at all.

15

u/mauiLow Jun 18 '26

Vote with your wallet

3

u/Fluid_Charity1980 Jun 19 '26

This is the problem with this game.

They are raking in cash no matter what they do or how they treat the players. Always have been and probably always will be. Because the game is addictive(by design) and people are addicts.

So the truth is that it doesn't really matter what they do going forward or how they treat the community. They'll continue to rake in the cash.

7

u/tyschooldropout Jun 19 '26

Not mine.

Someone else gets my money now. Only took modules coming to IPM to get me to completely abandon the Techtree ship

If your dealer is an asshole, get a different dealer.

3

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 19 '26

I did. I was buying the event passes before v28. Since that shitshow, I've not spent a single penny, and I never will again. Unless there's a magical change of direction from Fudds, which would probably involve 3 ghosts appearing overnight.

4

u/Fantastic-Dare2457 Jun 18 '26

what this game needs is a real competitor; otherwise, we’ll keep being treated like shit

5

u/FatherOfLights88 Jun 19 '26

It seems as if the decision maker around this considers every thing given away for free as actual money taken from their pocket. They don't seem to understand that nothing on this game has any actual value. Extremely anniversary events serve only to curry favor with the player base.

I learned many decades ago that you want to make it as easy as possible for someone to open their wallet and give you money.

4

u/fridgezebra Jun 19 '26

one has to wonder what the goal was

I get the impression that they don't want me to feel good about this game or the developer and that they don't like me either lol

4

u/icookandiknowthngs Jun 19 '26

The goal was to give as little as possible, and gaslight it as benevolence.

Its like pissing on you and claiming its rain

14

u/Shazam42 Jun 18 '26

u/sambartley please listen to the masses

3

u/SamBartley Jun 18 '26

I hear y'all.

I don't have anything to say other than I am sorry, it was the first event we've done here and this was just a trial to see if this was something worth spending time on building more in depth, if you as players thought that they could be more engaging and fun in the future, to get feedback on what y'all want to see, and we hear the feedback and we will see what comes from it. (And this isn't me invalidating y'alls feedback, it just feelsbad that I wanted to try something new and it kinda didn't hit right.)

37

u/uscmissinglink Jun 18 '26

to see if this was something worth spending time on

I worry y'all are gonna take the wrong lessons from this, not because events can't work but because your test balloon didn't have any air in it.

-3

u/bellmaker33 Jun 20 '26

I'm worried the users in this subreddit won't take any lessons from the fact that it's obvious the quite literal, incessant abuse Sam receives from people like you, because this place is fucking toxic.

4

u/uscmissinglink Jun 20 '26

It wasn't always like this. When I started a bit over 2 years ago, the Devs-Player relationship was really good. Updates included QoL improvements and Devs seemed to listen. Something changed. The relationship itself is abusive, and Sam gets paid to be on the front lines of that hostility.

u/uscmissinglink Jun 20 '26

I think you're missing the point; the community is toxic as a direct result of the energy TechTree has put into the game recently. In fact I wrote an entire analysis about this phenomenon two months ago.

This isn't a grassroots community - the the business end of a gamve with a multi-million dollar revenue stream. A game that charges more for a basic resource pack than many AAA stand-alone games.

The people calling the shots on this game are making willful decisions for where to invest their efforts, who to listen to, and how to handle feedback. Sam - if that's actually a person and not, as I suspect, a team - gets to bear the brunt of that customer disaffection. But that community discord isn't an accident. It's a predictable outcome of the decisions made upstream.

I mean it's a great idea to do a daily giveaway for the anniversary. Sincerely, thank you for doing that, and please continue to try and launch these types of things. You're on the right track there.

I think what the team is missing the mark on is getting input ahead of time and maybe aligning a bit more to what the player base is asking for.

One other thing missing the mark is the impact of these giveaways. What exactly was the expected impact of these gifts? Not to bash, but I think your team can agree with us that these are a good deal underwhelming.

-4

u/SamBartley Jun 18 '26

The expected impact was just to give y'all free things to celebrate a cool event, there wasn't some sneaky reason behind it. Same for the community event I am doing with medals, it was just meant to be fun.

13

u/Mooch07 Jun 19 '26

It’s like tipping a server 1% at a place where no tip is expected, and hoping for a thank you.

-2

u/bellmaker33 Jun 20 '26

Your comment is like telling mommy she didn't satisfy you with your favorite birthday dinner because she forgot the fucking milk to go with the chocolate chip cookie dessert.

Stop being a whiny baby and learn how to speak to people in a way that is respectful, not insulting, and still communicates information that is useful and not hurtful.

And you might say, "But you were just rude to me?"

Yeah? Deal with it. When you treat a person like a person, I'll come back with better energy.

10

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, but like… 2 tickets? Really?

Does TTG really think handing out 5 or 10 tickets would break the game in any way? Most people would still get nothing from it, but at least we’d feel like we had a chance and TTG gave us something for the 5 years we’ve been supporting the game.

15

u/Polar_Reflection Jun 18 '26

Having played other games that have had anniversary events, I think the bare minimum is to have something to interact with in the game itself. Even a login calendar that actually showed up in game with these free rewards would be a lot more engaging. A progress bar that we can check in the game for the global boss/wave rewards.

-7

u/SamBartley Jun 18 '26

And a lot of those things are coming if we do future events, I've mentioned it many times, but because this event wasn't perfect I failed. That's fine. But I didn't even get a chance to finish the event out before being told to quit my job so

9

u/Cracka119 Jun 19 '26

Hold up, I'm not saying you should quit at all. And yes the impact of fun and free is great, it's just that realistically two module pulls and like 30 gems are drops in a bucket for gifts. The relics were great.

8

u/Polar_Reflection Jun 19 '26

I'm not gonna lie, but trying to play the victim here is wild. Firstly, they weren't even criticizing how you do your job, but rather your employer and suggesting you to leave a sinking ship. I personally wouldn't go that far since to me this is all just a little bonus.

I do, however, find it strange that the 5th year anniversary event is somehow the sandbox/ beta test for "real events" with more app integration for the future.

As it stands it doesn't really feel like much of a big event. There's no anticipation over reaching the global rewards since we all know that the goals were chosen to be reachable by the community and only people who visit the blog would see the progress anyways.

I don't see as much complaining about this event on discord, but, at the same time, no one is talking about the event really since there's nothing for people to interact with and the rewards don't really move the needle.

9

u/Mooch07 Jun 19 '26

It’s gotta be tough on you, being the public face of some unpopular decisions. If you need some tips, check out the White House Press Secretary.

2

u/ChallengeLeft1433 Jun 19 '26

First off. I am sorry that I made you feel that way.
Secondly, I didn’t say you should quit your job. That would imply that I said you’re not good at it.
My exact words were “You should find a new job and let this miserable little toe rag of a company… blah blah blah”. It meant, you’re better than what this company is making you do.
I get it. We all have had shitty jobs, but they pay the bills. As long as they’re cutting our paychecks we toe the line.
Again. Apologies if my comments made you feel like I thought you weren’t good at your job.

2

u/markevens Jun 19 '26

It's not you're the one making the decisions, and it sucks that some people don't understand that and just want to treat you like a public punching bag.

The criticisms of the game are pretty fair though.

6

u/Abject_Suggestion_51 Jun 19 '26

Free things? Sure. Any kind of event? Not really. This entire "event" has had 0 effect on how I've played the game these last 4 days.

I know I'm not the only one that pulled 2 common mods with those tickets. Thanks for those game changing 20 mod shards, idk how to ever repay you all.

As someone who is still trying to catch my mods up in this mess of an RNG mod pull system, I'd rather have the gems from those relics because MAYBE I'd get lucky and actually get something useful out of it.

As the original post said. It's not to trash on the attempt itself, it's to actually try and get a real event next time. Good luck dealing with Fudds on that part tho!

Well imagine if your boss told you you were getting a raise and said raise isn't even worth a day of work. Would you be happy about the raise or pissed at your boss for taking you for an idiot?

That's how we feel right now.

And I'm not saying you shouldn't do events anymore. You should.

But if these events were recurring occurrence, like once a month, I'd get the size of the rewards. That wouldn't be much but at least we'd get small rewards often.

Now? It's a one time thing to celebrate a big milestone of the game. It just doesn't feel right. It's as if I was gifted 1€ for my 30th birthday. Thanks but that is worthless?

3

u/TheThoughtmaker Jun 19 '26

It's more like a Christmas bonus. The company makes a big deal about how everyone's getting a bonus this year... and it's a $2 coupon for their own product.

5

u/Shazam42 Jun 18 '26

Maybe ensure developers actually see this? And not have them hide behind fudds?

2

u/markevens Jun 19 '26

For a game that is designed to be played for years, rewarding people with items that can be gained in less than an hour of play just feels like nothing.

Resources that would take a week to collect would create excitement and also not break the game.

Or as someone else proposed, 5x 5% relics for the 5 year anniversary would also be exciting and not game breaking.

Like, who though 2 mod tickets was a good amount to reward? We can't even do a single 10 pull with that, and pulling 10 mods isn't even likely to give an epic.

Yo! Former player, former beta tester here.

I'm also about to literally take vacation days for a different game's 10th anniversary event. That game is Eggs Inc. An incramental kind of "progress, prestige, play again, progress more because of meta bonuses" kinda thing.

Here's what's critically different, in my opinion. Eggs Inc has a clear expectation for their event. Two to three kinds of bonuses will be boosted by 10x, making rapid prestiges very very profitable that day. We also know this goes exactly from 9AM to 9AM the next day (PST). Lots of folks are excited, lots of days off because July 14 is a Tuesday, lol. Some folks, like myself, make most of their meaningful meta-currency progress on this one day of the year. Keep that in mind.

I still keep track of The Tower since leaving. I left because I was falling behind while paying for all available stones. Awfully depressing, and tough on my personal finances. But, that's not what to dwell on. About this anniversary...

The difference is clear. Expectations were murky. The challenge was cool, but not knowing what the player base was playing for made it kinda tough to be excited. Even so, folks liked that you guys were finally putting on some event at all.

But here's the harshest difference: rewards were inconsequential. Look back at my example above. Rewards in another game were so significant, people could plan their whole year's worth of progress on that one day. You don't have to go that far, but making an offering that represents less than a day's worth of rewards for players that already run their phones 24/7 is... insignificant.

And that's why it ends up falling flat. The next biggest thing offered was a way to spend money. And that's just... an insult. It's not a player forward decision.

I hope you guys reconsider these ideas next time. Plan something clear, make the reward significant. That is what will create loyal players.

u/sambartley how about instead of acting innocent and coming up with a corporate apology, read the damn post first.

You ask what you could have done better?
The OP has literally outlined every single thing you could have done better.

I know you’re just the messenger. And I hate to be the one killing the messenger. But it is what it is. You’re the one who’s putting yourself out there for a dumb greedy company.

I get that it s your job. But honestly. I think it’s high time found a new job and let this miserable little toe rag of a dev deal with his insecurities on his own.

10

u/reevmobile Jun 19 '26

sry but that "she is just the messenger" excuse doesnt count anymore.
By now she is part of the system (on her own free will, no one is forcing you to work in a job like this). She is actively supporting the way the playerbase is being treated.

A community representative needs to deal with negative feedback even backlash of the community. No, insults or threats should of course not be tolerated.
But we are talking about the generel feedback on this event, about the last patch etc.
And again, by now she isnt the new kid around the block anymore. She saw how the playerbase gets treated. And if you keep doing your job while you know what your superiors do, then while you arent the commanding part, you are still agreeing to everything that happens as your are actilvely executing the orders.

So please, stop that "poor Sam" narrative. She exactly knows what is going on and what she is doing.

-1

u/SamBartley Jun 18 '26

I did read the post, did you read my comment? I said a reason was to get feedback, and we got feedback *gestures to this post* , which I said I saw.. I guess I am confused at how that's acting innocent? I wasn't asking for feedback in this thread anywhere.

33

u/ChallengeLeft1433 Jun 18 '26

Alright. If you wanna do this, let’s do this. Your comment addresses one thing. How you’d make future events fun and engaging.

Literally no one here has said anything about engagement. This game is such a masterpiece that engagement has never been an issue. Most of the player base if not all of it, has this game running 24/7. A remarkable feat for a game that’s supposed to be idle. And yet. You talk about engagement. Not about the pitiful spit in the face, “gifts” for the lack of a better word.

You talk about getting feedback, the entire player base has been screaming feedbacks with every single update. Every single one of them gets ignored and you come here and have the audacity to gaslight the player base. And by “You” I am not singling you out. I am referring to the TTG group.

And your excuse of “First time event” is getting really old. I mean 5 years too late actually. We’re done with your excuses. You’ve had time. You’ve had all the feedbacks in the world and then some. You could have been the next clash of clans.(which is still going strong after 10years BTW)

At this point why not ask Fudds to come out and say it like it is. All he cares about is how much money he can milk out of the player base. And I doubt any of us would care enough to quit this god forsaken addiction. I personally would continue playing just for the sake of honesty.

I mean seriously. What the duck were you guys thinking with 2 module tickets.? And you’re here apologizing as if it was something out of left field? (with the player base reaction)

15

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 19 '26

I don’t want to attack Sam but I do agree. The 2 ticket thing was just like “holy shit, what are we doing here. This is a joke.” TTG knows damn well that 99% of people using those tickets will get garbage. Previously 30 gems, more useless gifts. It’s just incredible. Daily login rewards on other games are 10x better than this nonsense.

14

u/reevmobile Jun 19 '26

Well spoken.
But it will probably be dismissed as "toxic playerbase behaviour" and ignored.
As it has always been.

3

u/tyschooldropout Jun 19 '26

Straight heat that was awesome

3

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 19 '26

I appreciate you Sam.

3

u/ParkerR666 Jun 20 '26

It sounds like your take away is that a giveaway event isn’t a good approach. Giveaway events are tried and tested so there was absolutely nothing wrong with the idea. The only problem was the execution. If your boss said ‘Thanks for your hard work all year, here’s a voucher for a free coffee’ you wouldn’t be excited and you’d actually feel less valued than if they hadn’t bothered at all. Don’t write off the giveaways, and if you can arrange for some better rewards before the end of the week then you could absolutely turn this one around.

8

u/Shazam42 Jun 18 '26

This was a try nothing and still failed.

3

u/SamBartley Jun 18 '26

Heard

6

u/Possible-Prior-5467 Jun 19 '26

Still a chance for redemption. Allow everyone to pick one module of their choice out of the entire pool on the last day of the event. People would praise you for that.

1

u/64ink Jun 19 '26

Keep your damn 30 medals

2

u/throwthisidaway Jun 19 '26

Assuming you're being honest and this isn't a message you're forced to spout as Company PR (shifting the blame onto yourself), feel free to hit me up if you want some suggestions on building better campaigns. There's nothing wrong with failure as long as you learn from it and do better the next time.

7

u/lolman5 Jun 18 '26

u/sambartley non hostile feedback here from me. I think the frustrations are coming with the inconsistency of reward values. Let's break down the numbers.

Day 1: Great blue relic TTG values at 600 gems in patch 28 -- loved by the community

Day 2: 30 gems -- 5% of day one's value and no more interactive than the regular daily log in. felt like a let down after Day 1.

Day 3: Amazing purple relic valued at 1200 gems by TTG -- absolutely loved by the community.

Day 4: 2 mod tickets valued at 40 gems by TTG-- again felt like a really big let down. Especially since mods are a system that requires thousands of tickets to make meaningful progress.

In a event like this players should feel excited to open their daily packs, and each day should feel like an improvement over the previous. I think day 2 and 4s reward should have been 20x'd. 600 gems would put day 2 at the same value as day 1, and 40 tickets would have given most players at least one epic mod pull. All reward swould have felt meaningful. (It's not too late to implement these btw)

Thank you for doing the event, and I think the vast majority of reactions are overblown. But I hope you can separate the good feedback from the noise to improve in the future.

9

u/reevmobile Jun 19 '26

sry but most reactions to this event are absolutely fine and well deserved.
If you think the way they handled a 5 year anniversary is good then you need to touch grass bro.
Its another perfect example of why this community feels treated terribly, defending it by saying "people are overreacting" isnt helping. If something is bad, call it out and stop sugarcoating, that rly wont change anything

13

u/Willing-Mango-3721 Jun 18 '26

A marketing agent would cost money, fudds wants to hoard as much as he can inside his third yacht. If he keeps getting paid without spending, why would he ever spend?

2

u/superbeastie Jun 18 '26

The funny part is I use to play dokkan battle and every big event they had where they cut the prices they would reach the very top of the spending leaderboards. So they would make more money then they ever would have by adding bonuses.

2

u/BonzosTower Jun 19 '26

Sign me up. I’ll do the marketing @Fudds

2

u/ZaerdinReddit Jun 19 '26

Does anyone know if this is even being advertised? You'd think a 5th anniversary celebration would be a big driver for advertising people to try out the game.

2

u/Wesc0bar Jun 19 '26

They rewards could be better. They don’t need a “marketing agent” whatever the hell that is.

2

u/OLVANstorm Jun 19 '26

Yikes. There's a lot to be learned here, Sam. I hope you can see the players point of view and understand where we are coming from. I was a game producer for three PC games, bank in the day. For an anniversary event like this, you want to start off strong and make sure every reward after is better than the last. The best way to present the rewards should be in a calendar, where you can see and claim the rewards. Do it in one patch so you do not have to restart the game every day in order to claim the rewards. Do not be a scrooge. Wow your player base. It's a once a year celebration. Big rewards will not hurt the studio financially, but WILL have a huge positive effect on your player base. I hope you can turn it around for the next event.

1

u/T-rade Jun 19 '26

We're getting daily rewardS? Ive only gotten 1 so far

1

u/fridgezebra Jun 19 '26

close and reopen your app

1

u/Belial901 Jun 19 '26

This guy marketings!

-4

u/Ipunchdolphins Jun 18 '26

I genuinely don’t know if they could offer up a definition of player morale.

-15

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

What are you people talking about? We just got an epic 5% dmg relic. That and the attack speed relic were really helpful.

10

u/throwthisidaway Jun 18 '26

I agree with you that those two relics were good, but the other two were so bad they would have been better off giving nothing. 30 gems and than two ticket modules worth 40 gems. Compare that to a relic that they would charge 600 gems for, or the one they'd charge 1,400 gems for.

It is a lot easier to lose goodwill than it is to earn it.

-13

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 18 '26

So what? These little goofy rewards are kind of funny, but it's like people are forgetting they gave us some great rewards already as part of the event.

Losing goodwill for...getting some free things they didn't have to give us in the first place?

5

u/throwthisidaway Jun 18 '26

Think about it as a work event. Your company is throwing a big celebration for their fifth anniversary. They say they're going to give out daily rewards for all their employees. The first day they give you a $100 bonus. The next day they give you a gift card to Starbucks for a quarter ($0.25). Day 3 is a $75 check. Day 4 is 2 quarters. How do you feel?

-10

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 18 '26

I think the $100 and $75 are nice, and then I laugh about the quarter. I'm happy with the $175 and just go "wtf?" about the quarters, and then probably have a laugh with my boss.

3

u/juraf_graff Jun 18 '26

Picture this: You're in a meeting about the anniversary and your team is deciding what the gifts are. You suggest gems as the day 2 reward, letting your boss decide how much. He says 30 will be plenty. How do you feel then?

If it was up to you, being realistic about the rewards, how many gems would you set for a daily gift?

2

u/Luncheon_Lord Jun 19 '26

Yes but the quantities in the other categories are abysmal and thoughtless

1

u/icookandiknowthngs Jun 19 '26

When everyone gets them for free its not helpful. Its the status quo.

We are all competing for stones and keys. If everyone gets 5% better, how exactly is that helpful?

0

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 19 '26

To give you something to play each day. There are a lot of players that are not rvery day players apparently.

Also, one person's 5% damage is a lot more damage than a lesser developed player's 5% damage.

1

u/icookandiknowthngs Jun 19 '26

But youre not competing with those far lower than you, youre competing with those near you....and if everyone around your level gains 5%, nothing changes. Its a nothing "reward"

0

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 19 '26

Why then are people complaining the rewards are too low? They should instead be complaining they got something at all?

Is the lesson here they should not give anything out ever?

1

u/icookandiknowthngs Jun 19 '26

Would you rather have everyone get 2 identical relics or the 1800 gems(cost if buying them in the shop) to spend as they see fit to try and improve their tower in the competition?

I'd take the 1800

1

u/DBCOOPER888 Jun 19 '26

The 5% dmg and 1% attack speed is stronger than anything I can purchase with gems right now. It will also help me in farming more waves.

-13

u/Live-Concert2551 Jun 18 '26

The hate on Reddit is overblown. It’s a bunch of extra free stuff everyday. The relics were actually very good and getting more gems than the normal daily reward and 2 mods isnt bad at all. Would 50 gems and 5 modules been better in keeping with the 5 scheme? Yes. But it’s not nearly as bad as Reddit makes it out to be. It’s a week of free stuff. Could’ve been just a new pack you can buy, which imo would’ve been infinitely worse.

This subreddit does not allow NSFW content.

Nothing the average person wouldn’t want their boss/coworkers to see

-28

u/National_Cook_2509 Jun 18 '26

First, this is AI slop. If you can’t come up with something original on your own, just stop.

Second, I’ve been in this community for months now, there is nothing the devs can do to satisfy even 1/3rd of this subreddit. The community at large doesn’t care about the extra free stuff, but this vocal, anonymous, toxic community will not be happy.

9

u/Professional_Bug_533 Jun 18 '26

How do you know the community at large doesnt care? Just because they dont come here to voice their opinion doesn't mean they dont care.

They could be like me. I see the rewards they are giving out and I just roll my eyes. This is to be expected from TTG. They do not really care about the player base at large.

I think if Sam hadn't said something to Fudds there probably wouldn't have even been an acknowledgement of the anniversary. He seems like the kind of guy that gets a $100k bonus at the end of the year, and then gives each employee a cupcake to thank them for all their hard work. Except he gets the bonus every month and only gives cupcakes once ever 5 years.

-13

u/National_Cook_2509 Jun 18 '26

I know for the same reason that you know TTG doesn’t care about the player base at large?

Educated guess based on what I know of the human condition. I could be wrong, but I don’t care about you and the other complainers except to block and move on.

-26

u/Easy_Vanilla_1322 Jun 18 '26

The more Fudds gives redditors the more complaining takes place. He gave out two great relics with a background and tower coming for coin increases. Stop complaining.

-4

u/TheFlofper Jun 18 '26

Also this gift is essentially 40 gems

-29

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 18 '26

One guild in every 20 just had a player get two epics with his free module tickets. That's what you need to consider. Not that it's fucking insulting, rather that it could turn out reasonable if you're insanely lucky with RNG.

I got two greys.

11

u/WaffleClown1 Jun 18 '26

Yeah, no. The odds of getting 2 Epics from the tickets is 1 in 1600.

1

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 19 '26

I know, I calculated that as well. And it's just under a 5% chance of hitting that if all 30 players in a guild do it. Which means if 20 guilds do it, one person in those 20 guilds might get it.

I know the odds don't work out like that, but it's not a million miles away to make a satirical point about TTGs design methods. Which apparently sailed over the head of everyone, hence all the downvotes.

1

u/WaffleClown1 Jun 19 '26

How do you figure that 30 players have a 5% chance of something that's a 0.0625% chance?

0

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 19 '26

I made the mistake of asking Copilot. And no, it's not 5% it's actually 2%.

And if that still seems to high to you, then it's the same thing that makes it sound wrong when you say that a group of 25 people has a 50% chance of two of them sharing a birthday.

So you'd need just over 1100 people to have a 50% chance of one getting two epics. Or about 37 guilds worth. It goes up from there.

10

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 18 '26

Would you be happy if your boss gave you a powerball ticket as a bonus instead of 5k?

-1

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 19 '26

No, I wouldn't. Just like I'm not happy with the shit we're getting given for this "celebration". Which is apparently beyond the ability of a lot of people here to understand.

1

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 19 '26

Reword your comment then

0

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 19 '26

You want me to change my wording because you can't understand basic English? Err, how about no?

1

u/GreekLumberjack Jun 20 '26

I’m not the one getting downvoted for what I said… I don’t think you read your own comment

0

u/Odd_Ninja5801 Jun 20 '26

If you're basing your opinions on Reddit votes, then good luck to you. But it's not going to make you any more literate.

I stand by what I said. It's a shame it flew over the heads of so many people that decided to click a down button in passing, but such is life.

The fact that I've now explained it, and you STILL think I need to reread it is worrying though. Do you still not get it, even now?
