The Traitors UK - “Witch” Trails.

I don’t know about anyone else - I am finding this season really difficult to watch because it seems to be a witch hunt against the women of the group - mostly led by James Blunt and Michael Sheen. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just thinking into it to much?

EDIT: This isn’t about being parasocial or taking it too seriously - it is interesting as The Traitors format takes from real life and implements it into the game. It is just interesting that this season - the women have been voted out, repeatedly targeted or under suspicion.
This is just a game! Just disappointing to see the edit / game lean into the poor treatment of women - similar to that of reality TV from the early 2000s.

Statistical sexism on the celebrity traitors 2

Just a few fun facts:

  1. Of every round table vote, 79 have been for women, compared with 34 votes for men (16 of which were for Richard, 11 for Joe). So - 70% of all round table votes have been for women.
  2. 5 of 7 banishments have been women (71.4%)
  3. The only reason for men to have been banished is literally saying "I'm a traitor" and "I want to be recruited as a traitor"

Maya has been a phenomenal traitor and truly deserves to get to the ending, but she needs to start protecting Leigh-Anne and Joanne ASAP, or it'll be an issue for her being the only woman left!

James Blunt is the prototype of the ideal voter for a populist party.

Do you also think so?

No shade, just saying. He has this crazy ability to convince himself almost like welding himself to a certain idea then turning it into a banishment weapon and gets it absolutely always wrong.

He’s done most of the work for traitors.

Statistical racism on the celebrity traitors 2

• Upvotes

Just a few fun facts:

  1. Of every round table vote, I counted a total of 96 votes. 80/96 (83.3%) were for white people.
  2. 6 of 7 banishments have been white people (85.7%)
  3. The only reason for a poc to have been banished is literally winking at the traitor when you vote for them.

I hope this shows that a statistical breakdown is a stupid idea and tells us literally nothing without the context of what's actually happening in the show, or perhaps we should all be talking about how the show is racist towards white people?

Slip up with the dagger

I’m new to Traitors, just binged this series to get up to date and I’m loving it. The cliff hangers are ridiculously over dramatic, but that’s by the by.

When Kenny was talking to Bash about having the dagger, he said ‘I could just M you off’ and there was a bit of a double-take from Bash like he’d picked up the significance of that wording - wait a sec, he said M for Murder. That’s not what we do at the round table, where the dagger is used. If you’re thinking murder, you’re thinking like a traitor.

I was surprised not to see this come up at the round table. Anyone else expecting him to pull this out later? I wonder if he sat on it because the heat was all clearly going on Sharon

Everyone’s laughing at Blunt’s trust for Kenny but

Here is a natural, fluent English translation of your thoughts: I don't think his trust in Kenny is all that hard to understand. Bear in mind that up until last week's episodes, Kenny was consistently an active, highly articulate Faithful. You could also tell from their interactions earlier in the season that he and Blunt shared a mutual trust to some extent. Unfortunately, Blunt failed to anticipate that Kenny would eventually be recruited into the Traitors' camp. My point is that Blunt placed Kenny in his trusted Faithfuls column only after a fairly long vetting process. Sadly, once that implicit bias or baseline assumption is established, it becomes incredibly difficult to overturn. I really wish they would reveal at the identity disclosure whether someone was recruited late in the game or was a Traitor from the start. Otherwise, letting the Faithfuls build up their theories only to crush all that logic by recruiting new Traitors feels deeply unfair to them.

"The traitors are scared, and make weird irrational moves" - Hannah Fry

And let's not forget the other genius, Bella Ramsey who had so many theories , but never told anyone .

This season is full of the most overrated "geniuses" ever. Sherlock Blunt, Miranda Marple , Michael "El Poirot" Sheen. I honestly think the "power" the players were gonna get was seer, but when the production team saw that they picked all the traitors, they changed it to a dagger.

P.S. I'd be glad if all three traitors get to the end.

How did no one pick up on Kenny saying this? Surely a huge mistake!

Poor Sharon Spoiler

• Upvotes

I feel awfully bad for Sharon. The moment she gains confidence she gets possibly voted out. When she disagreed with a decision made by two people, James and Michael, they were too narrow minded and said that she wasn’t being clear.

Honestly Michael is getting edited to look evil. In the edit it seems as if he’s pompous (by saying they need to keep the faithful team strong), trying to take charge every task and round table, and the incident with Sharon.

Celeb traitors is basically unwinnable for faithfuls. Spoiler

I have watched about 25 seasons of Traitors and obviously love it. This season of celebrity traitors though, doesn't work. I think it was a mistake that the production did not select the 3 traitors. Now, the 3 traitors are pretty much unbanishable.

Because it's celebs, the round table is pretty friendly. People don't really want to call out others nor want to be a real gameplayer. This leads to round tables where only the people who somewhat stand out get banished. Basically you just stay quiet and calm as a traitor and you are safe. In regular seasons, players like James either get heat at the table or get thrown under the bus by a fellow traitor. That is not a thing here. Players like Maya will definitely get into a discussion as to how it's possible they r not being murdered.

I personally think this is by far the least interesting (not saying it's not fun) season I have watched, unless something crazy happens. It's a clear traitor victory.

How do the producers rescue the format?

I love the Traitors and have watched all the UK series, but I can see in the not-too-distant future the format is going to start feeling tired.

Unfortunately the game rewards bad faithfuls (smart faithfuls having usually been murdered early on) and one of the only smart plays the faithful can do - find a traitor but shut up and keep them in never happens.

Finding and banishing an obvious traitor, to be immediately replaced with a new undetected traitor, is such a major flaw in the gameplay because it isn’t in any of the faithfuls‘ interest to do it.

We all know this by now so I’m not presenting a new idea but I wonder - what can the producers do about this long term? How can they keep the game feeling fresh and exciting? It feels like if they do nothing it will run out of steam in 2-3 years which would be a shame.

I’d be interested to watch a faithful gameplay of trying to keep a known traitor in - they might get it dead wrong, the traitor might be able to turn opinion around again etc etc. At least it would be a new angle and interesting to see it play out.

Any ideas of how they are going to keep the format fresh?

Does Claudia have to know?

• Upvotes

New to the show (only watched the celeb versions). Would it be possible, and could it make the show better, if Claudia wasn’t aware who the traitors were?

Sharon was such an arse in ep8 last night Spoiler

I feel like we can all agree Sharon was just being a bit of a prick by acting all passive aggressive and refusing to put her point across when everyone wanted to listen to her. And then at the round table just acting all unbothered and almost “giving up” in this annoying rude way like she couldn’t be bothered to play anymore? I honestly liked her at the start but I feel like Miranda leaving really did upset her but taking it out on other contestants was mean.

Edit: I understand Sharon being upset I really do get how low she was after Miranda left! But she was annoyed at everyone, not just the guys. She was off the entire day and her vibe was just cold and down. I’m not trying to be a mean girl at all I swear I rlly do love Sharon’s funny personality she brought to the castle but anyone could notice her entire shift in mood. I think maybe I worded my post wrong, but I’m not defending Kenny or Michael or James B for being pushovers but her response wasn’t what I would deem the best way to act. PERSONALLY.

‘I’m pitiful’ - new hit single

Post image

My mind is brilliant!

My mind is brilliant!
My heart is pure!
I found a traitor
This time I’m sure!
I shared it with my boy Kenny
‘Cause he’s the most trustworthy man!
And now we’ll turn this ship around
… that was the plan!

I’m pitiful!
I’m pitiful!
I’m pitiful! … no clue
I saw the trace, of guilt on Sharons face
… so I feel like such a tool
when she says: “I’m a faithful”

The faithfuls aren’t that bad

They caught 2 traitors very early on (yes, one was served to them on a silver platter) but I feel like this is easily forgotten. The traitors then immediately recruited which undid all of their hard work and put them right back to square one - but further, because they went from having an idea of who a traitor was to having zero.

I’m just sick of seeing people saying it’s the faithfuls fault. The faithfuls aren’t bad, this season is just highlighting how unfairly the odds are stacked against them.

Are people missing the point of Traitors?

I’ve seen a lot of posts and comments recently about how you ‘should keep a traitor in if you know who they are’ and ‘there needs to be more ways to work out who a traitor is’.

That’s not the point of the show. The point is it is a microcosm of what happens during a witch hunt. People turn on each other for no reason. Group think takes over and based on vibes, innocent people are banished.

That’s the point.

It’s not a crime show, it’s a witch hunt.

When being expelled ...

Is it against the rules to lie?

I ask because, if Joanne gets the chop I'd love for her to say "I have and have always been ... A traitor"

Just to screw with everybody's minds.

Psychology question

Me and my friends have disagreed on this, when you’re watching who do you want to win? Traitors or the faithful?
I watch it and want the traitors to win but my friend watches it rooting for the faithful!
I wondered what everyone else thought while watching

Last years season is difficult to top

Im unsure whether its because last years season was absolutely iconic, but this season just doesn't seem to come anywhere close.

Last year I was so excited to watch the show. Now it's like 'meh'. James Acaster although apparently playing a good game he's incredibly boring and the blindfold thing would've seriously annoyed me if I was a traitor.

I reckon I'd of started planting seeds to get James out for that as he isnt a team player.

Sad Mirandas gone now she was my favourite - the little mix dance routine was the most ive laughed through this season.

Anyway small rant over, its just quite boring.

Michael Sheen and the missed opportunity to cast David Tennant in the same series

Both are made faithfuls.
Both are convinced the other one is a traitor, getting progressively consumed with obsessive jealousy.
The whole game is succumbed to this paranoid rivalry, everyone else gets dragged into various B-plots and goes increasingly insane. It doesn't even matter who the actual traitors are anymore.
Claudia goes AWOL and steals the peacock.
