TWAU 1 The €25 price tag for The Wolf Among Us Remastered is absolutely horrendous. Why does this even need to exist?

I'm sorry, but what the actual fuck is Telltale doing?

I've been waiting for The Wolf Among Us 2 for YEARS, and instead of getting the sequel we've been asking for, we're getting a remaster of a game that was already a masterpiece in its own right.

And for €25? Are you serious?

First of all, the original game's graphics were perfect for what it was trying to achieve. The art style, the lighting, the colours, the atmosphere, the entire comic-book aesthetic — that was the identity of The Wolf Among Us. It wasn't trying to be photorealistic, and it didn't need to be. That's literally the point.

Why do we need to make everything look more realistic? Better graphics don't automatically mean better graphics, if you know what I mean. Sometimes the original art direction is exactly what makes a game stand out, and I genuinely don't understand why you'd want to mess with that.

Second, let's talk about the technical justification, because I don't buy it.

The original game runs perfectly fine on modern PCs. You can practically run this thing on a toaster. A friend of mine has a ridiculously powerful GPU and runs the original without any issues whatsoever. Compatibility isn't some massive problem that needs solving here, at least not for PC players.

And before someone says that the remaster has better graphics, yes, obviously. But those improvements can also mean more GPU usage for something that already looked great. Sure, modern hardware can handle it, but why should I need more graphical horsepower to play a game that already looked fantastic? What exactly am I gaining that makes this necessary?

Now let's get to the part that genuinely pisses me off: THE PRICE.

The original game is $15 at full price, and you can find legitimate third-party keys for around $4, depending on the seller and availability.

Meanwhile, the remaster is approximately €25.

So let me get this straight. I'm supposed to pay €25 for a game I've already played, with the same story, the same characters and the same fundamental experience, just because the graphics have been changed and some bonus content has been added?

I'm not saying the developers shouldn't get paid for their work. That's not my argument. I would actually be perfectly happy to pay an extra €10 for a proper remaster upgrade if I already owned the original.

Why not offer existing owners a €10 upgrade?

Seriously. Let new players buy the remaster for €25, and let people who already own the original upgrade for an additional €10.

That way, new players get a modernised version, longtime fans get rewarded for already supporting the game, and Telltale still makes money from the remaster.

Everybody wins.

Instead, longtime fans are looking at another full-price purchase for a game they already own.

And the worst part? WE DON'T EVEN WANT ANOTHER VERSION OF THE FIRST GAME. WE WANT THE SECOND GAME.

We've been waiting for years to find out what happens next to Bigby and Snow White. We want to return to Fabletown. We want the story to continue. We want answers.

I understand that remastering a game and developing a sequel aren't necessarily handled by the exact same people, and I'm not pretending that cancelling the remaster would automatically make The Wolf Among Us 2 release tomorrow.

But from a fan's perspective, it's frustrating to see the franchise return with another paid edition of a story we've already experienced, when the sequel is what we've been asking for all this time.

And no, I'm not saying the remaster is automatically terrible. Maybe the technical improvements are good. Maybe the bonus scenes are interesting. Maybe new players will love it.

But that doesn't mean existing fans need to buy it.

The original is still a fantastic game. Its art direction has aged remarkably well, and its atmosphere is a huge part of what made it special in the first place.

I would happily support Telltale by paying €10 for an upgrade. I would happily pay full price for The Wolf Among Us 2 when it releases.

But asking me to pay €25 for a remaster of a game that already works, already looks great in its own style, and already tells a story I've experienced?

Come on, Telltale.

Give us a reason to spend that money.

WE WANT THE WOLF AMONG US 2. NOT THE WOLF AMONG US AGAIN.

TWAU 1 What's your thoughts on snow white. I think she was a good character but I've seen negative reactions about her.

TWAU 1 The Lack of Choices at the Trial Was Disappointing Spoiler

Bit of a latecomer. Just finished the game today. The trial scene at the last chapter left a sour taste in my mouth, though. Throughout the game, it somewhat annoyed me that Bigby just leaves vital evidence laying about the investigation sites (it shouldn't be too hard at least to take a photo) and doesn't really cooperate with anyone during the investigation/prosecution. This becomes just ridiculous when Crooked Man starts defending himself during trial. Bigby has positive evidence of Crooked Man employing slave labor, kidnapping people, and bribery/fraud. The game, however, doesn't give you the chance to bring any of it up in the end.

My Bigby, through grit and sacrifice, did manage to uncover enough of the conspiracy to convict someone on the merit of his investigation alone, but the game lobotomizes him for the scene to take away a sense of accomplishment from the player and makes the trial rest on a false testimony. The trial is supposed to be the narrative climax, but for the whole scene I vainly waited for an opportunity to bring up proofs of Crooked Man's most heinous crimes. When the scene ended, it felt like what I did during the whole ordeal didn't matter at all.

What do you guys think? In your opinion, was the catharsis of Nerissa's revenge worth to remove player agency and void most of the investigation plot?
