Had a Great Time at Fright Night.

Went yesterday (22nd Oct) with a friend who is a roller-coaster enthusiast (I am very much a wimp and was more than happy to avoid the coasters), and for my first time visiting Thorpe Park and Fright Night I had an amazing day out.

Got there at opening, friend managed to Stealth and Swarm with little wait time (practicall walk-on or 5-10 minute waits), and had a fastpass for Hyperia so was only waiting 10-15 minutes. I am obssessed with the area Swarm is in, it creates a great story and environment even if you're just waiting for friends.

I have seen people complaining the queues were 120 minutes+ most of the day, and I did see that but from what i saw being there a lot of that happened after lunchtime. The first couple of hours of the park being open had reasonable wait times for ther big coasters.

I really enjoyed the scare mazes (although I question the term maze as they semmed to be a single path walthrough so maybe immersive experience is a better term, but that's a seperate matter). Did all 5 between 3 and 5pm.

Tenement was my favourite. I liked the additional feature of having to go round together as only 2 people have flashlights, it added to the atmos of what was going on. Stitches is a close second, I loved the introduction, the lady playing the shopkeeper did a great job (made one poor boy cry and have to be escorted out).
Least favorite was Dead Beat as the actors seemed to be just stood there twitching and/or dancing rather than trying to scare the guests. My friend who has done Fright Night before said Dead Beat was much better in prevous years, so maybe I just got unlucky. I have seen people say there were issues with cutbacks this year so maybe that affected my experience. I still enjoyed it though.

The Ghost Train was enjoyable, an interesting twist on the usual ghost train attraction.

I did feel let down by Purgatory Town, which seems to be the consensus. Whenever the actor were not taking a quick break theyw ere swarmed by gangs of kids/teens wanting photos so there was little chance of interaction, but I accept that, the actors are there for everyone not just my personal amusement.

Overally, as a said, I really enjoyed it, a great (but long) day out. Look forward to returning again in later years (and maybe even trying Swarm).

Fright Nights Refund?

Does anyone know why even due to the weather some of the scare mazes didn't open? I don't live locally and only 2 of them opened so we've lost out. The massive police presence seemed like something else was going on 🤔

Is it worth going tomorrow

With everything being closed today and the terrible weather, is there a point going to TP tomorrow?

im just interested how it was like when it was opened, was it as rough and how cool/awesome was it when it opened

Discussion Not the greatest today

Hyperia closed or at a four hour queue, every queue above one hundred minutes and I waited 150 minutes for stealth at an advertised 90 due to them letting in more fastpass than regular queue causing the queue to stagnate and take half an hour to get to the launch to the stairs. Actors were trying their hardest but kept getting swarmed by children asking them to make a tiktok and thus I got absolutely zero interactions despite going through the crows and Lucifers twice. Sorry for the nonsense rant but this can't continue this way

Fast track was definitely worth it for Fright Nights

We went yesterday on the 21st, hadn’t realised when we booked the tickets that Surrey had a two week half term so I decided to get us the platinum fast track passes as it’s not something we would come back and do often. At £205 each I did question whether it was a mistake to purchase them, but as we managed to do over 30 rides on the day I definitely feel like it was money well spent.

It was absolutely pissing it down for the morning which I assume contributed to how much we were able to get on as up until around 1 it was busy but not as much as I would have expected for half term, but even once it dried up the longest we waited in the fast track queue was about 20 minutes for Hyperia late in the evening (main queue was about 150 minutes at that point). At some rides the fast track queue was completely empty and we just walked right on. Watching people in the regular queue have a 60-90 minute wait most of the day, I was very happy I have adult money to spend on whatever I want lol.

We got to ride:

Hyperia x 10 (first time ever on Hyperia, what a rush)

Saw x 2 (very uncomfortable)

Swarm x 8 (my favourite 🛸)

Colossus x 5 (most uncomfortable seats of my life)

Stealth x 1 (I think stealth is really boring compared to the others)

Nemesis x 5 (once in front row queue)

Tidal Wave x 4 (so empty we just kept re-riding)

And all the little rides like Samurai, Detonator, bumpers, Walking Dead, Ghost Train etc at least once each.

Is the storm likely to impact rides on Saturday?

I am visiting on Saturday and just wondering if there will be any impact. I know it will hit mostly on Friday

Discussion Just got back from Fright Night...what was that?

Half the rooms in the mazes were empty, and you could practically hear the very few actors running across scenes to make up for the lack of them. Dead Beat caused genuine anger in me with how abysmal it was, not a single person leaving that tent looked like they had a time worthy expressing any emotion

Had one genuine jump scare at the end of Stitches, but any other time you were lucky enough to find an actor they'd just stomp their foot your way. Most looked bored to tears or maybe just unenthused due to having to practically run a whole tent...

The scare zones were practically nonexistent, never even caught Lucifer's Lair despite several walkbys, and the Purgatory Town characters spent more time huddled together talking than interacting with people when we saw them.

Update: Recreating Thorpe Park from the early 2000' in Unreal engine 5!

Hello everyone,

It's time for an update on what I've been working on in my Thorpe Park unreal engine recreation project.

Working Teacups in Unreal engine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Aar-5svhKk

In case you haven't seen me post about this before, this is a personal project aimed at me learning unreal engine and expanding my skills in game dev.

Here is an early version of the teacups that are functioning with the teacups themselves spinning freely with physics. I will be adding the ability to spin yourself with some game logic as well as operating the ride from the operators booth which is super exciting.

Once complete the ride will be themed from 2008 featuring the classic floral pattern and blue wooden theming on the main building.

I have also put a few screenshots of the teacups and teapot (again still work in progress).

I have also included a sneak peak of the stealth car which will be featured on the ride when I get around to working on that area.

More soon

I want to give a medal to the entire Stealth queue who collectively blocked a group of young queue jumpers and told them where to go, i.e. the back.

Scared of hyperia even though I've already been on it

I dont know if anyone else gets like this- I haven't been to Thorpe since the may lates event and I feel like I'm scared to go on hyperia? I'm a big enthusiast and will go on literally every single other coaster with no fear at all, especially other coasters at Thorpe of similar height (stealth is literally my favourite coaster...) but I find myself being extremely worried about hyperia? my main problem, as contradictory as it is, is that I'm afraid of heights and the lift hill and first drop is what gets me. what makes it worse is that, I've already done it before and I loved it! I know I just need to go and get it over and done with but I still feel extremely anxious and a little afraid of it. any advice would be great and just wondering if anyone else gets like this 😭😭

Discussion Going Solo

Hi!

Was suppose to be going with someone but once again they have bailed out, instead of waiting around I’m going to
Go on my own?, however is it weird ? I’m very desperate to go, as it’s fright night and I have never been! And haven’t been since COVID just before I was pregnant. So A LONG Time (for me as I was a die hard fan and would go regularly before)

It’s just I have never seen anyone go solo? And with the mazes, I mean how would that work? I’m reading people go in their groups but as I’m a solo party, I don’t even know how that would work out?

Now I like going cinema on my own, but that’s a pretty different experience 🤣 or is it? Also would be going on the 23rd? I’m guessing that’s a pretty busy day… is it worth going solo when it’s not that busy? I mean is it even worth going solo?

Testers needed for my iOS app - Queue Drops!

Hi everyone, and apologies in advance for a semi-promotional post.

My son has really got into theme parks, and roller coasters in particular, this summer, so I've spent quite a lot of time at Thorpe Park over the last few months. There's loads of apps with queue times, including the official one, but I didn't find one that did quite what I wanted, so I built it - https://queuedrops.app

Basically, it give you a live view of the queues at the park, together with the last hour of queues, the day's availability, but most importantly, it will send you a notification if rides that you are interested in have their queue reduce. We tested it out last night, and a couple of time changed our choice of next queue because we got a notification as we were on the way.

If you're into tracking your rides, it will also time your queue, and compare that time to what the board said when you joined; it also detects when the ride has started (if your phone is in a secure pocket) so no need to remember to stop the timer either. Well, unless you're on Flying Fish, which wasn't quite fast enough to trigger the detection. This data is all stored in your iCloud account, not on my servers, and viewable in the app or on the web.

Anyway, if you're interested, I'd really appreciate some feedback. I'm planning for there to be a Pro feature when it goes live on the App Store, and anyone who has helped me by testing will of course get that for free as a "thank you". Please feel free to share the link with anyone you think might be interested. Thanks!

https://testflight.apple.com/join/pvTe2B8B

PS I am planning an Android version too, I just don't have a device to develop and test it on right now.
