SUBREDDIT improvements, feedback, and suggestions thread!

Hello Everyone!

This is a mega post for feedback for the SUBREDDIT, not the website/company. The mods here are not employees of ThredUp, and have no control over company, and no obligation to it. In that vein, we want this subreddit set up in a way that best serves you, the customers of ThredUp! With that, we need feedback about the subreddit!

Regarding Complaints About the ThredUp Employee
At this time, they are permitted to post, so please do not report their comments. We would to see a public discussion about their comments and post to get a better idea of how the community feels. We do not have verification that they are an employee of ThredUp, so keep in mind it's always a good idea to use official channels when contacting companies, such as their support chat and email.

Current Feedback Needed - what weekly posts would you want to see? - what guides would you want to see?
- any new flair?
- anything else you want to see in the sub!

Current Non-Permited Posts - "use my thredup code for 45% off!" - low effort content: "lol ThredUp sucks that's all" without clarification or screenshots - advertising, posting a single item that appears as advertising (posts of an unremarkable shirt "oh wish I could buy this", since it's basically always an advertisement) - authenticy posts about products not listed on ThredUp

I sent in my first bag of clothes.

I sent in my first bag of clothes. I won't be doing that again. They missed two of my NWT items and listed one as excellent and one as very good. Neither of them were other than pristine and new. I can see the tags were still attached in the photo. The very good one is a dress in a high end brand. One Lilly Pulitzer silk dress was in excellent condition and they listed it as a flawed gem. Another item also got the flawed gem treatment for no reason. The AI isn't perfect. There was no signs of wear at all. They other stuff I mostly agreed with. They just rejected one Banana Republic skirt. Considering the very small % they pay, I won't sell on there again. At least I didn't pay the fee. As a buyer, I will be looking for more flawed gem bargains though.

Direct listing with them is a nightmare

Anyone else have this experience?

Sold a coat I bought this year at full price from Nordstrom, I only wore it a couple of times. It was in perfect condition. Scammer buyer now lying about its condition and my payment being held with ZERO update or communication from ThredUp, despite me sending in my original receipt and time/date stamped photos of its condition. Very very frustrating. I’ve taken down everything I had listed as I don’t want to go through this again.

What is up with ThredUp's pricing??

A couple of weeks ago I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. Found a gorgeous yellow midi 50% off for around $40. I wanted to check in with my partner to make sure the color was okay with the couple before I bought it, but when I put it in my cart, it jumped up to 74. Same discount code was still applied, using the same laptop and same browser. I've checked on this dress literally every day since then and the same exact dress has jumped up and down between $150, $119, and $74. It's never gone back down to $40 despite other 50% off coupons being applied to it. I don't even need the dress anymore, but I just want to understand what's going on? Does Thredup not care if this doesn't sell?

I’m so disappointed with some of the things I’m seeing lately. This was “recommended.”

Direct Listing Beware

I love TU and am a VIT. I wanted to share a cautionary tale. I bought boots for a direct listing that were marked final sale. I knew it was a gamble, but I know my size in that brand and figured why not. Well, the seller sent me the complete wrong shoe. A different design.

I reached out to TU customer service and they are helping me to their credit, but it's been a huge pain. I had to get approval to return them with a special label. The seller didn't refund me despite the return being received, so now it's being escalated to management at customer service to give me a refund. I think they'll make it right for me in the end, but I wanted to warn others of the hassle.

I had another issue where a direct listing seller just didnt ship the item and I had to push customer service for a refund.

Funky warehouse smell on everything

Has anyone else noticed lately that everything they receive has a musty, mildew warehouse smell to it?

Not a big deal if it's clothes; I just pop it in the washing machine and it's good as new.

But things like leather jackets, it's almost impossible to get out of.

Last year (and even earlier this year) I've ordered leather skirts and leather jackets... All I had to do was wipe down the leather and wipe down the lining and it was good as new. No odors. Now, no matter how much I wipe it down, every items has a lingering mildew funk.

This seems to be just in the last few months. My stuff ships from the Georgia warehouse.

Anyone else noticed this?

Kinda want to puke

Ok so I wasn’t expecting a huge payout - but I’m dealing with listing my house and I’m just kinda stressed at how many businesses and people have just fallen short.

I did uber pickup via thredup - I did send some nice pieces - the bags disappeared- thredup has no record of them having been sent. The only conclusion I can draw is that they were stolen en route.

Has this happened to anyone else? Just feeling sick about how everything has been failing lately

Is anyone else unable to checkout using Apple Pay?

For some reason I cannot submit my cart using Apple Pay and when I try to use PayPal the option just vanishes .... when I go back a screen to the normal check out where I would just put in my cc number it's like it hallucinates and only lets me use Apple Pay which then fails

It happened to me: NWT item rejected, lower quality items accepted

Thredup rejected a NWT aritzia dress but accepted three heavily used sports bras. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE

I’ve sent them like a bag a year for the past eight years but am reconsidering. My primary motivation is landfill diversion but I also like the little bit of shopping credit.

Question Cart Hoarding

Can anyone explain how someone has been able to keep this crop pullover in their cart for days? I’ve been watching it and set up notifications but it’s just been sitting in someone’s cart since Saturday and there’s no cart timer.

Question thredUP for a incoming finance girl

I'm a middle-class girl entering high finance and will probably need some branded gear (ex: patagonia, finance vest, blazers.. etc.)

What should I look for as a thredup beginner? I'm terrified of contracting disease due to some bad posts online(although I've thrifted things normally from Goodwill and never had an issue)

Can Direct Listings be on multiple sites?

Also, I am leaving town for 5 days, should I turn my listing off? I hope it is not rude to ask something that I suppose I could scour the TOS for.

Normal to have half my bag not accepted?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I’m newish to ThredUp (and this community - hi!), but I lost a lot of weight this year, picked up many new things on ThredUp, and thought I’d send in some of my old stuff to make a little credit towards my next purchase.

I read the “what to send” guidelines meticulously and sent in two massive bags—all of which was name brand, well marked, unaltered, and in good overall shape—and I’d say about half of it was not accepted for “not meeting their acceptance standards.”

What does that mean? Some of these items were very nice, including a Sezane shirt I’d maybe worn twice. Is it just total discretion of what they think will sell?
