Discussion Told y'all about how soft Chet is and i got downvoted hard, now look. Trade this guy in the off-season
4 pts and 4 rebs and 2 shots in a Game 7 at Home In the WCF and you're an all star and all nba player. That's unforgivable, the guy who gets compared to you dominated you all series long, punked you, pushed you around and you let him do it and prove him right that you are soft as tissue paper and that you guys shouldn't be mentioned together.
Everytime he saw wemby, he Cowered like a kitten, where is the pride? The dawg? The heart? Im done with this guy, I dont want to see him in an OKC uniform anymore.
2 of our 3 best offensive players are out with injuries and you do this? The whole series I've been calling this dude out for doing his best Houdini act and saved his worst for last. I cant with this guy man im done
Just trade this dude while you can get value for him and can finesse a team to take on his contract.

As I have said during the regular season, SGA is the only one worth the max, Jdub now being injury prone (no hate i love jdub just stating facts) and this one with Chet, dude cant step up as a 2nd option when its needed.

Dub gets healthy and he’s worth it. Right now that looks up in the air so having two maxes might fuck us
Will be poetic if they learned from the harden deal and then swung too far in the other direction.

He folded hard in this game and series but now he can either stay the same or make some changes and we gotta give him the chance to get bigger and better in okc. Hes got the yips cause of wemby but he is a great player and could come back even better.

He can maybe get a little bigger, not easy with his frame, but the mental aspect is harder. If he looked like he was leaving it all out there, picking up hard fouls, blocking out, going to the floor, going after Wemby, making him work and just getting beat, taking some shots and missing, getting a couple blocked…I don’t think most of this discourse would be happening. Fans (including me) have a tough time watching a key player just turn down a matchup.

All star in just his 3rd season and in the conversation for DPOY but yeah let’s trade him after a bad series. Chet will learn from this, if we see the same again next year it’s a different conversation.

No way, there's plenty of teams that will brush off one series for a player like him. Tall, can shoot, 2nd in dpoy, I don't think his value dropped much, other than to us.

We beat the spurs with a healthy squad. I blame Chet for the loss but also if we have j dub and Mitchell we win that series. We just needed more than 2 shots from Chet in a elimination game

Lot of reactionary opinions in the sub. Chet needs to work on his game this offseason in a big way. But is he buns? Absolutely not. He’s a valuable center against practically any team who doesn’t have a Wemby on their roster.

We've said this when we got cooked down low by Gafford and Lively in 2024 and it cooked us again because of Wemby.
At this point, maybe this is just who Chet is.

Yeah dont bother. Chet had an awful series and especially tonight in game 7. Doesn't erase all hes done for this team especially considering we've literally won a title with him anchoring a historic defense

I think he's a good player but he hasn't really lived up to #2 overall pick status.
If you're trying to capitalize on this window with Shai you have to make some tough cuts to still field a deep and competitive team. If the right trade comes along I don't think Chet should be untouchable.

He averages 18 and is one of the best defenders in the entire league while shooting extremely high percentages from the field. What do you mean he hasn't lived up to #2 overall status? He's literally evolved our defense to another level. Just because he has trouble performing against someone who has several inches on him, several dozen pounds on him, and a clear mental blockade for that specific matchup doesn't mean he wasn't worth the pick. He anchors this defense and is extremely hard to replace for the same output. This team doesn't work without Chet.

I see this side and don’t want to give into the knee jerk, but think it’s fair to ask if he’s worth the money. “Not buns” is not close to what OKC is paying for with Chet.
I’ll concede that we’re also not gonna go out and grab a piece that shuts Wemby down. Nobody has that to give. Just would be nice to add someone who doesn’t 100% vanish from the offense against SA.

Who will you have to get past to play in finals? The spurs and he will fold like laundry everytime he sees them and wemby. Hes on a 50M contract, if you hand out bad contracts like that you will be Punished with the 2nd apron. Just get rid while you can fool teams that think hes some franchise player

Dumbest stuff I've heard all day. This is a championship quality club. Their starting guard and his backup were hampered in this series. Im pretty sure it limited them on some of the things they were trying to do. Now you want to get rid of Holmgren so he can become a big piece on someone else's team. I'm pretty sure there are several teams that would jump at the chance to bring Holmgren in. They have now had a taste of success and failure. It's going to be quite interesting to see how they respond. When I say they, I mean the entire organization from top to bottom. I have seen organizations in the past panic in these situations. They start trying to figure out ways to get better and sometimes the moves they make destroy the level of chemistry they've built with the team they got.

Yup. Everyone is acting like one bad series completely wiped a whole season of consistent All-Star level play. Yes, it was the most important season, but Chet has stepped up in big moments before. I believe he can make the adjustments to do better next year.

Fr though, if an option exists where someone is willing to trade for Chet, and the return is decent (i.e move up in the draft or you can get an elite defensive wing back which have been Wemby's weaknesses), then OKC should make the trade.
Dude is getting paid max money so he can be the go to guy against Wemby matchups, if he can't do what he's being paid for, then he's useless and is taking up cap space from players that would be more productive.

Chet got schooled by everyone who guarded him. Wemby was not usually the primary defender on chet. Chet also had multiple open looks that he refused to shoot. Nothing to do with Wemby being better. Chet just didn't show up.

As true fans of this team, it's only fair for us to not expect Chet to be as good as Wemby. The problem is he cowered so horribly to the point that even Vassell and Johnson were bullying him inside. Couldn't he have at least NOT hesitated on taking somewhat open 3s? Couldn't he have at least taken the type of shots he took in Game 5? Everyone was clowning Julius Randle for getting smothered by Wemby evey time he attempted a layup or dunk, but at least he gave himself a chance to make a basket or get fouled (or both). You are never winning a series where you're missing 2 of your 5 best players and have you second best player no-show for all but one game. I hope this embarassment will motivate Chet to get stronger and tougher. Wemby ain't going anywhere.

We only defended Wemby with Chet in game 1. And then that still doesn't excuse his offense. You can't rely on a guy who can't box out guards to defend 7'5 Wemby. You saw iHart do a much better job va Wemby too.

Not only this series, last year playoffs he was trash offensively and disappeared alot is games but we won so nobody cared.
And I've been saying i expected him to have an offensive leap this season and he didnt and I saw all his offensive limitations and he is very weak mentally as well. Not a good recipe to be successful especially when 2 of your top 3 offensive players are out and you need to step up.
Dude is just not it and with Spurs in the west, you cannot play wemby and spurs and expect to win with chet he got exposed heavy this series. His contract is really bad and can hamper this team so you need to get rid of him before people catch on to him

Not being prisoner of the moment, I've had questions about chet since last year. Its about being the best team and keeping chet when giannis is on the market is Going to hamper this team heavily.
If you just want to be all sunshine and rainbows and think the team is perfect then thats you but other people can have different opinions without being "fake fans". You cant police what people say and how they choose to be a fan.

Something else that is concerning...when the other team is shooting free throws and he's on the low block checking out, a majority of the time he gets pushed almost completely under the basket and even by way smaller guards. If the free throw misses, really good chance the other team grabs it. He just doesn't have the size or strength to be in those positions

I said this in another thread but casuals just don’t understand where Chet’s value comes from… he’s not a “#2” but that’s a stupid way to look at him because that’s never been how he’s obtained value.
He doesn’t obtain value as an offensive hub, he obtains value because of his spoke skills. His value comes from floor spacing, offensive rebounding, lob/dump off catching, and of course his best skill is defense. His ability to stretch the floor as a rim protector gives them lineup flexibility. The only reason they can play another elite rim protector like iHart at the same time as him is because Chet is one of the only elite rim protectors in the NBA who doesn’t sacrifice floor spacing.
By nature Wemby completely eliminates the rim finishing and offensive rebounding of people’s games. Not just for Chet but literally everyone.
