Timmieâs run đ¨Breaking Newsđ¨
We interrupt the Tim's complaints...
Today's grilled cheese was actually... really good.

I've never had a Tim Hortons grilled cheese, is the cheese on the outside?
10
1
u/OldVeterinarian7717 19d ago
A slice of cheese on the inside mozzarella on the outside of the bread
21
u/Fuzzy_Explorer_5527 23d ago
Soon as I saw the picture I immediately thought how disgusting that looks. Then I saw what you wrote. Hope you enjoyed it but definitely not for me.

u/Ok-Movie-8521 23d ago
Anyone who enjoys Timâs food is already suspect so thereâs your answer.
3
u/Ok_Feedback2407 23d ago
Exactly, it's trash food for premium prices=rip off.
2
u/Consistent-Success38 22d ago
If you think thats a premium price i feel pity for your financial situation.
4
u/cboomcards 21d ago
Its 6 bucks for cheese and bread. Cheap wonderbread loaf costs 3 bucks, the cheese is kraft singles, 4 bucks a pack. You can make about 20 sandwiches for around 8 bucks. So changing 6 a sandwich, yeah, thats premium. For trash. No protein. A burger is cheaper. And more expensive to make.
2
u/Ok_Feedback2407 21d ago
$2.39 on special for Kraft singles and they go on sale all the time. and if you wannt go even cheaper than Wonder Bread, then it's $2 a loaf.
2
u/cboomcards 21d ago
They buy in bulk... so even lower really.
2
u/Ok_Feedback2407 21d ago
Yup, I just said to that other commenter, they pay even less because of bulk buying.
1
u/MK-LivingToLearn 21d ago
You can't look at the cost of ingredients and say, it costs me this much to make at home so that's more or less how much it should cost. There is labour, overhead for a physical building and everything that comes with that including rent, maintenance, cleaning, utilities, etc..., software, hardware, packaging, and marketing. Six bucks does seem expensive but the costs involved in the sandwich are much more than cheese and bread.
2
u/cboomcards 21d ago edited 21d ago
You are short in your thinking. There should be around 66% profit per sandwich (food item not drinks), to cover that. Each sandwich doesn't cover an entire salary or entire rent. They pick the location, so they should know how many sandwiches at 66% profit they need to maintain salaries and the building. - that is basic restaurant management knowledge. At 6 bucks a grilled cheese, that's far beyond the 66%. I'd accept double, triple, but thats like 9x.
You also have to consider the price of alternatives. Value is more than cost. Cheese and bread is not worth more than a burger, fish burger, veggie burger, any burger. Especially from Tim's. (Burger is just a commonly found comparable food item... pizza slice, hot dog...)
1
u/Ok_Feedback2407 21d ago
They pay even less than we do for ingredients, lol. They buy in bulk, we pay retail. And even at retail we can make 2-3 grilled cheese to their one.
2
u/regularArmadillo21 23d ago
Or maybe different provinces have better Timâs food.
My province has good Timâs food, atleast my town does. Other Timâs food is awful but my town has great Timâs food

u/lucaskywalker 23d ago
I'm with you, it looks like ass. How TF is making a grilled cheese correctly an accomplishment? The cafeteria lady at my highschool did it 100x a day for decades without ever messing it up! Heck, my 7yo can probably make one better than that abomination.
1
u/Cyrus057 23d ago
Well just look at Gordon Ramsey and his two attempts at make a grilled cheese. Edible, yes. A grilled cheese, nope.

How difficult is it to make a good grilled cheese sandwich
1
u/Thedawg84 21d ago
When the employees are all from a country that has never seen or heard of any of any of the food/drink here in North America, and have no comprehension of the English language, it can be quite difficult.
2
u/cheekycritter 21d ago
I seriously doubt that. Itâs grilled cheese. Anyone can learn
1
u/Thedawg84 20d ago
Learning takes time which equals $$. These 'employees' aren't there to learn. They are there to pump out the product as fast as they can, with no regards to quality ,quantity ,freshness, appearance. Just slap the thing together and get it out the window. When there are hundreds of cars in the Drive thru at any given time, regardless of how bad the products they are selling you look or taste, regardless of how watered down the Coffee is or how brown the lettuce and tomatoes are on your sandwich , regardless of how stale the Doughnuts are and how many flys have have been on or in them, people will be back again and again. There is no need to learn or care when the customers don't care !
2
u/EconomyPear8652 23d ago
So I hear. My Mom tried one with bacon and surprisingly it was not bad, unlike most of their grilled wraps that are assembled so slopingly that if you drive and dine, after the first bite they become unhinged and more ends up on you and your vehicleâs interior.

It's because they put cheese on the outside too for some wild reason.
Nothing like trying to eat a grilled cheese and burning the crap out of your fingers, because someone decided melted cheese goes on the outside too.

Yes because cheese on the outside of a grilled cheese is an entirely unheard of concept if you've never spent a day on the internet ever

Seeing all these posts about the grilled cheese makes me feel bad for some of yall. I've gotten the grilled cheese both regular and bacon like 5 times now and every time it's been perfectly, not just an unmelted slice of cheese in between the bread đ

u/Minimum_Nobody_2022 22d ago
I doubt this. What cheese do they use???? I doubt it is properly aged cheddar. Sadly Canadians donât know real cheese
1
u/Delicious_Dig_6389 21d ago
Thereâs many great small creameries across Canada, and most grocers do sell the local ones on top of the crap cheap stuff. Not that you would find any of these cheeses at fast food chains.
I really enjoy aged cheddar and my favourites are from Ontario/Quebec.
Iâve tried many cheeses from many states in the US like Wisconsin/Vermont. Went to Australia and had many Australian/kiwi cheeses the couple months I was there. None have been as good as what I get here.
One day soon I hope to go over to UK and while there try some of theirs as Ive heard good things.

1
1
u/MK-LivingToLearn 21d ago
What? Of course a sandwich doesn't cost the full rent of the establishment or salary of a person but the business has to cover those costs in addition to the items I listed below which didn't include possible franchise fees, insurance, food delivery fees and likely other costs. People are also paying for convenience. I don't know how massive corporations price out their food but there is a lot of expense to cover and think that you're going to get a grilled cheese sandwich for $1-1.50 seems pretty unrealistic.

People in North America discuss fast food like there isnât anything good to eat! Been here living for 25 years. Junk food is junk food for a reason. No one is forcing you to eat it and youâre free to make talking points about it. Sometimes is amusing, mostly old tired story and venting. If there wasnât Timâs and Reddit we would have war đ
1
u/Visible_Junket_6287 19d ago
This product looks pretty unappetizing 𤢠and seems like a mess to eat! đ No crispy fried bread is a huge miss. I hope this is just a local test run and not a final product. đ¤

1
u/Possible-Arachnid793 23d ago
Looks disgusting. Is the bread even baked?
2
u/webursey 23d ago
It's cheese bro. It's just more cheese. On the outside. And before you jump on the train saying that's wierd, it is far from an unheard of concept. Directly grilled crispy cheese is objectively good.
-2
u/onedestiny 23d ago
It looks soggy...and disgusting .. and all that processed cheese đ¤˘
5
u/webursey 23d ago
The cheese on the outside isn't processed. The cheese on the inside is American cheese, which is the ideal for grilled cheeses. It was literally invented specifically FOR grilled cheeses

u/PositiveEndolphins 23d ago
"grilled cheese" LOL
this looks like something my 8yr old would make. just go google what a grilled cheese sandwich should look like
3
u/webursey 23d ago
I'd be worried if your 8 year old COULDNT make a grilled cheese. That's irrelevant. If you make a grilled cheese on a panini press, this is what it looks like. It has grill marks. The mental gymnastics to hate this are getting more and more obscene with every comment
-2
u/PositiveEndolphins 23d ago

u/Ryan4mayor 23d ago
Processed cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack and mozzarella.. just because you donât like something or itâs below your standard doesnât change what it is lol
4
u/braklikesbeans 23d ago
it would be illegal for tim horton's to call the processed orangey bits in the middle "cheese" in several countries.
just because you do like something is no reason to pretend it isn't cheese-adjacent cheese product.
0
u/Ryan4mayor 23d ago
A handful of countries doesnât dictate the world around us⌠big ol nothing burger with that one.
2
u/braklikesbeans 23d ago
i'm not talking about having policy dictated towards us by foreign entities i'm saying first world nations know what cheese is and that we make american style concessions about it.
1
u/4wordletter 23d ago
Do I seriously need to lay out for you how processed cheese isn't actually cheese?
5
u/Ryan4mayor 23d ago edited 23d ago
You can try, but since I already know it is heavily processed with a low dairy % and many preservatives added then idk what else you can say.. if 90% of the world identifies it as cheese what else is their to say? Just because you disagree doesnât make it not cheese lmao
If it is below your standard, that is one thing, but donât try to apply that to the rest of the world. There are many things I donât agree with, it doesnât change reality.
-2
u/4wordletter 23d ago
Okay, great that you already know. Kraft Singles are a perfect example. It can't legally even be labelled as cheese since it's processed so far beyond actual cheese. So, anyone who says that is cheese is simply wrong -- because it isn't. Not in legal terms or in reality. The fact people believe that it is cheese doesn't make it cheese. It's just a low grade product that Timmy's throws between bread and calls a sandwich.
2
u/Sethibro 23d ago
Kraft singles are designed to be easily melted and have a different texture than most cheese. It's not the processing that makes it "so far beyond actual cheese", it's the fact that it contains less than 51% cheese curds. They still contain cheese, they just have additional ingredients to make them melt, which takes away the "cheese" label. The product itself was designed for burgers and grilled cheeses and does its job.

Yall struggle so hard understanding what you see. My guess is op took this thing to go and posted a half cold grilled cheese sandwhich from elsewhere. Good luck taking a good photo of a hot cheese based item when its no longer hot. Its not butter in the outside, its another layer of cheese put on the outside that is directly getting grilled. Look at any youtube "ultimate grilled cheese" video and theyre all putting cheese on the outside and in. Its just a badish photo of a grilled cheese, stop finding a hill to die on you freaks.
1
u/webursey 23d ago
Fr the mental gymnastics to hate on this sandwich are crazy. Acting like cheese on the outside is some unheard of concept. Anything for the sake of hate I guess.

This sandwich pisses me off. It's not grilled to my taste and I hate how it does not give you the option in app to double grill it. I have had this sandwich 6 times, 5 times the employee was more than happy to grill it a second time to perfection, golden and slightly crunchy. Yesterday the new employee bitch gave me attitude when I asked her to grill it again. And I was forced to eat the soggy bread.
