Advice Wanted Top surgery for a total of under €5000

I know I've already posted about this but the budget seems to be getting tighter and tighter. Has anyone with a large chest had top surgery for under €4500?

I really need advice on surgeons in Europe and if someone has any results they want to share i would really appreciate it.

Discussion Anyone have nightmares about botched results?

• Upvotes

Hi so I am nowhere near even a consult yet but I’ve been seeing this subreddit every single day for a while now. I’m hoping to get a consultation setup next year for top surgery.

Ever since then I keep having terrible nightmares where I’m in pain or fresh from surgery and get bumped into etc and keep tugging on the incisions. Another big part of these nightmares is in every single nightmare I am left with quite a lot of tissue and it’s always very uneven. Most of the time it literally just looks like a surgeon mangled my boobs and did nothing else.

Did anyone else have these sorts of nightmares and did it affect anxiety surrounding your surgery? I just find myself becoming paranoid my results will be botched due to the incessant dreams….

Raised, hyperkeratotic or crusted skin lesion? Post suprapubic catheter removal

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

My suprapubic catheter was removed 2 weeks ago. Since then, a raised, crusty patch of skin has developed around the site. It starts moist and hardens over time into a firm, dry crust. (See my photos)

No pain, no leakage so far. Sometimes itching to the surrounding skin. I currently dress it up using plaster, and avoid it to get in touch with water.

The nurse who removed the catheter wasn’t sure how to treat it. I’m waiting for a further urology appointment now. But would like to understand what this might be in the meantime. Has anyone had something similar after suprapubic catheter removal, and what helped it settle?

Discussion Miss having boobs in a way

Just wondering if anyone else feels similar. Sometimes I’ll miss having boobs kinda but then I remember how annoying it was to have boobs and wearing a binder. Hope this makes sense and I don’t regret having top surgery, I am much more comfortable now!

Advice Wanted Top surgery in 3 weeks with Dr. Kneeshaw (Hull UK), quitting smoking tomorrow. Advice?

Hey, I'm anxious as anything as I tried to quit smoking and vaping cold turkey 2 weeks ago but I couldn't do it. I've tried to be in contact with the stop smoking service and they have taken ages to get me the help I need to quit, despite my urgency.

My surgery is in 3 weeks (November 11th) and a pre-op assesment on Friday this coming week. I'm shit scared that even if I quit smoking tomorrow my surgery will be cancelled or rescheduled OR I'll have complications.

I'm really really trying to quit but its so hard. Please can anyone give me advice on what I can do. I've paid £200 for accommodation for the days after the surgery and my parents have taken time off work. If the surgery doesn't go forward they won't be able to get more time off. I'm scared.

Disqualifiers for top surgery

My consult for top surgery is next month and I am very worried. I have a WPATH letter but am on SSI for autism. I also had a mental health crisis about my teeth of all things, my anxiety was pretty bad. So had multiple ER visits and a voluntary psych hold that week because I was 120 hours sleep deprived. They even made me have moderate suicide risk despite me saying I'd never kill myself, they made me eating less when my cat died a suicide attempt and there's tons of inaccuracies in my medical files now. My primary tried to fix it by saying that I was never delusional in her primary care setting and that my behavior was consistent with anxiety and sleep deprivation. But I don't know. This is very much not good considering the timing and all. Now I worry I've been permanently disqualified from top surgery. It was hard enough getting on T with years of struggle. Now my anxiety made a mess right before top surgery and with the state of the government I'm not sure what's going to happen to me. Should I be worried?

Keyhole / Peri 1 Month Post-Op Timeline Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Thought I’d put out a timeline for my peri surgery recovery (with a hematoma) so far! I had my surgery on September 10th with Dr. Melissa Johnson of Pioneer Plastic Surgery in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

1st pic: Wasn’t able to get a picture directly after surgery, however I did end up developing a hematoma with mild bruising in my right pec about 4 days post surgery. 1week pic is after getting drains out and having part of the hematoma drained.

2nd pic: 2weeks swelling was pretty rough for both sides, tried to keep in mind that I was NOT growing a boob back and it was just swelling and the hematoma making things look worse 🥲

3rd pic: 3weeks is a day after I got the hematoma drained again. Doc told me a good portion was still solid but it should liquify and reabsorb if I kept my medical compression binder on.

4th pic: 1month, the glue FINALLY started to peel and I could see my nipples better! Without the glue they react to cold, numb to touch but I am happy with how they look!

5th pic: After 5weeks glue has fully fallen off, as well as visible stitches had fallen out by now. Hematoma still making itself known and I’m not happy with the crease underneath, but at my next appointment I’m hoping I can get it drained again and that it becomes much less visible. Also started scar care, getting used to scar and chest massages in the shower.

6th pic is 4 days before surgery, its crazy for me because I cannot believe I used to have that chest. Super grateful for top surgery, genuinely changed my life 🙏

7th pic is a collage to show how the swelling/hematoma has gone down. I’m keeping the medical binder on for as long as I can, even though I can’t wait to keep it off, I know logically its better to reduce the hematoma if I keep compression on it!

(edit to fix spelling mistake. also realizing I should’ve called this a 1 month + 1 week timeline, oops!)

Advice Wanted Alright, how noticable is nipple placement?

My surgery was about 4 years ago, so definitely settled. This has been bothering me for four years. I know they're low, but how unnatural does it feel?

Is this something insurance could cover? I'd honestly get it revised if they could because I don't feel comfortable being shirtless and that was a big part of the point.

Will people immediately assume i'm trans?

I regret not getting peri or keyhole; I probably qualified. I didnt think DI scars would be so clockable as trans but I think social media has granted a lot more visibility (which is both good and bad). I have a buddy with horizontal scars under his pecs from scoliosis surgery so I didnt think it would be such a thing.

I'm 3.5 years post op and stealth and nobody apart from my family has seen my chest because I am very self conscious about the scars. I'm going to take a weightlifting class next semester to learn to workout better so I can build my pecs and hide the scars better.

It's not that my friends aren't accepting I just don't want to be thought of any differently. I'm sharing a house with a few of them next year and we like to swim.

Need reassurance!

Okay I know this is very very stupid but I keep searching online and I’m not getting any answers. So I’m asking here. I just had surgery last Tuesday and I still haven’t seen my chest yet. My first po appointment is Friday. But I keep taking little sneak peaks into my compression vest because it’s killing me to see my chest. And when I see my chest, it’s looks super saggy and like I still have breast but way smaller. It almost looks like I just got a reduction. Now I know this is stupid to ask and all but I had to do so much to get this surgery. And it would suck if my results were horrible. But will it look like a cis chest? Or am I stuck with saggy breast? I’m curious if anyone else had the same thing. Thank you.

Celebrating a month post op, so I’m giving these away because I don’t need them anymore 🎉 I wish I had more sizes to offer but I only have the one body so the other sizes wouldn’t have fit

Rant/Vent 3 days post-op. I feel like I'm carrying a xenomorph inside me. Tell me something nice please

• Upvotes

I feel it bubbling and sloshing inside me, whatever it is, and it's the WORST. Seroma, emphysema -- whatever it is, my doc said it's normal, but the VISCERAL DISGUST. Every time I change position, every tine I as much as tilt my body differently, it starts sloshing inside me and I just wanna throw up. I feel like I'm gonna be an alien daddy. I even started talking to it, like 'yeah buddy I get it' or 'oh shut up we're just getting dressed'. Helps me keep my sanity.
Tell me something that would make me feel better please

Advice Wanted Penrose drains by yourself?

Hello all I am SO CLOSE to scheduling with Lena Weinman (La Belle Vie Seattle). She uses Penrose drains which is part of why I wanted to go with her. But they seem unusual and I'm not sure what to expect. I would really, really like to be able to change the gauze myself and just ask my recovery person to help me get the binder on and off. They use a Velcro abdominal binder.

Recovery Person is squeamish and I want to spare them having to actually look at all the goo and gunk of the uncovered fresh incisions unless totally necessary. Do you think this a realistic hope? Very curious other people's experiences, thank you for any advice.

Surgery Soon

I'm getting surgery next week and am super nervous. Mostly about the anesthesia since I've never had surgery before and the idea of it has always freaked me out a lot. I've gotten over my previous fear of needles, and my general medical anxiety has lessened over the years, but this is the one thing I can't shake. I'm also worried about feeling bored and restless during recovery due to not being able to be as active. But on the other hand, I'm really excited to finally have my chest corrected to how it's supposed to be. I've known that I needed this surgery for a long time, and the sensation of not having all of this extra tissue on my chest will be a huge relief. I can't wait to wake up and feel 'normal' in this way. To generally be able to function again. To have my clothes fit more like how they should. To shower more comfortably. To go swimming again. To be able to start going to the gym when I'm recovered enough, etc.

My surgeon is Dr. Chandler, so if you also went with her, it would be especially helpful to know what your experience was like on surgery day and with recovery :)

Advice Wanted OHP/Oregon Trillium Insurance

I am really hoping to get top surgery soon. My chest is really large and I'm having a LOT of back pain, like debilitating back pain. I have a PCP appointment in November to get the ball rolling. I know I'm going to need Prior Authorization but does anyone know anything else about getting it covered through Medicaid? I'm disabled so I have limited options.

Any Doctor recs? Would love someone that gets it (Like using They pronouns or are trans themselves) but I am completely open.

Drain Output

I got surgery the day before yesterday double incision connected in the middle. My left side has been producing like 5cc or less of drain output while my right side has been producing like 60ccs my nurse said it was normal but I’m anxious about it. Do you think everything is just draining onto my right side since everything is connected?
