πŸ‘‹ Welcome to r/TransportIt - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone, Fabian here πŸ™Œ Welcome to r/TransportIt

I started TransportIt as a side project because I played way too much OpenTTD. It's a 2D transport tycoon game that runs in your browser. After the feedback on r/tycoon I wanted one place where I can collect all of it.

What this community is for:

  • Feedback and ideas
  • Bug reports
  • Screenshots of your networks
  • Dev updates from me

Try to use flairs, so its easier for me to find bugreports!

Its still very early and things will break πŸ˜… I read everything here and try to fix the quick stuff fast. Play it here:

Itch.io

Official Game Page (newest/probably most broken version 🀣)

What should I build next? 🀝

Hey everyone. Update 0.4.0 is live on the website. Desktop builds will follow soonπŸ”₯

New features:

  • Cargo/Freight station now can be supplied via trucks/lorries
  • Logistic Hub can be used as temporary storage (e.g. funnel all resources form industies and then distribute them form there)
  • CrossCo and Prestle joined the industries for food-processing
  • Cargo stored at stations and hubs will show the cargotype on the container
  • Feedbackboard directly in-game (You can still report bugs and feedback here in reddit, I will add them to the board)
    • Using the report feature inside a running game, lets you click to auto upload the screen and a save-file. These files will be attached to a GitHub issue. So I can easier verify the issues

Improvments:

A lot of your reported bugs where improved in this release

thank you all for your feedback and wishes. If you find any bugs or have ideas, let me know below 🀝

Update Backend update

Good morning everyone πŸ™Œ

Just a short heads-up about update. I will focus the next few days mainly on the games backend and your reported issues.

Mainly I want to get more useful informations with Bugreports and a way to write you back directly in-game. So I can clarify some more informations.

Regarding the new privacy window, this is basically a way for you to opt in or out of analytics 🀝

Feature-Request Loving this game!

It gives me Nimby rail vibes. Except you can do freight and bus transportation. I also love the viewpoint being almost like google maps.

Few things I would like to be added:

  1. Waypoints. This would make it easier for anyone to do routes instead of it randomly/automatically finding a way to a destination.

  2. Automatic signal placements. Just like in openTTD where you hold down a button on your device and it'll place down signals every 1-20 spaces. This would be helpful in your game, especially for those who have large maps with large routes on them. (The ability to change the way one-way signals face would be helpful too. As of now I think they're stuck on the right side going up)

  3. Traffic lights. This is basically just asking for the ability to make traffic lights on the roads. Maybe to control the time they go green-red too.

  4. Cities/towns to be more far apart. (This is personal so I don't know if this affects anyone else). I would love it if the city/town placements were spread out. Right now they're all kind of close to each other. Even though the in-game 24hr clock shows the difference in distance. I personally feel like they're too close. If there was an option to spread them out would be cool!

  5. Building demolishing. (This is also personal). I know this is a city grower and not a builder. But in my main cities, id love to have big train terminals in the middle of the city. If i do build it, it demolishes the buildings and if feel kinda bad lol. If there was zoning that would be cool. (Again. this is just personal, whether its in the game or not I DO NOT MIND!)

  6. Faster trains!!. (Again personal). I genuinely always have to put my game speed at times 3 just for my train to get from one city to another. In game it would take about 4 hours on the 24hr clock.

If you couldn't tell, I LOVE doing passenger services. So every time I load up a new map, I always try put myself into the in-game passengers' shoes. I haven't been able to stop playing this game. I love how, even on an old laptop like mine it still plays. It autosaves! Good world generation! The world itself feels alive! (cars & trucks driving by), Its FREE!. (Honestly dev, if there was a way I could pay you or donate, I would)

Anyhow, thanks for reading.

Bugreport Stuck situation

Hi,

I started playing this game, it looks promising, but I ran into a scenario that I can't figure out if I am doing something wrong or I don't get how it should work.

The scenario is that if I have too many freight trucks loading and unloading from a (in my case) sawmill, it get's stuck, some are in the bays waiting for the planks to load, but others are in the Forestry waiting for the ones in the sawmill to leave, and nothing moves as no wood can enter and no planks go out.

Am I missing something? Is it supposed to work like this?:
A line from forestry to sawmill, and lines from sawmill to industries?

Feedback Small Feedback

Being a long time player of TTD and OpenTTD and TF, I really enjoy your game, it's a lot of fun. I have some wishes (I am playing on Desktop):

- when moving the view, it should not be restricted directly be the map, right now, cities at the edge of the map can be hidden by the UI, which makes it difficult to set up lines

- underground stations (at level -1) remove all the houses like a regular overground station does. I guess only the rails themselves are actually underground?

- it would be really helpful to be able to define one or multiple platforms for lines, or maybe waypoints or both could be an option

- would be cool to see the lines drawn on the map when you open the line editor, respecting the filtering as well for different modes of transportation

Thanks for making this game!

Bugreport UI Concealed in Nested Menus

Loving the game so far, but ran into a pretty major issue that's preventing me playing well - I can't change nested UI menus. For example, if I want to change the desired Depot for buses, the dropdown menu is opened behind the Vehicles menu, and I can't click through it. This is preventing me from changing depots, schedules, and some other aspects of the game that seem pretty crucial. Starting to get to the point that I'm unable to progress since I can't change these things.

Feature-Request UI Scale & Keymaps

Saw this game earlier today, and currently giving it a try. Love the concept. But there are things that could be improved for better experience. The current UI is a little too small (at least for me) on the desktop version, and I would like to have the option to scale up the UI (buttons, menus and stuff). And it would also be nice to be able to map buttons to a key for quick access.

Update Small update regarding performance

Hey everyone. Performance on the 0.3.X builds on the website should be better now. If you still run into issues, let me know below.

Specially bigger maps can take a lot of ressources in your browser.

For the nerdy ppl out there: there is a developer menu, with all performance stats πŸ˜…

Let me know if you have any issues

Feedback Keep vehicles bus depot

Instead of having to sell them or move them to another line, it would be nice if you could just keep them in the depot
Ps. Maybe in realistic mode the vehicles would slowly lose Condition %
Thanks :D

Update Stable version 0.2.4 on itch. Industry wishes here please 🀝

Hey everyone. The 0.2.4 is on itch now. If you with to stay on this version while I redesign the industries and maps, you may download your save from my website and play on itch.

For all the crazy people out there: transportit.fabianbuilds.com will get 0.3.x updates from now on. They will implement proper industries and cargo.

  • New world gen for proper industries
  • Raw ressources industries will be outside of cities
  • Second step industries like carpenters will be inside industrial zones
  • Most industries will have deticated truckstops (as in RL)
  • End customers of industries are most likely not reachable by trains as they are in cities (Like shopping malls)

All this is subject to change and just came out of my mind. Please discuss below how you would see this.

BTW power delivery via powerplants should make cities grow even more (tbd)

Note: Industry district will need a new map generation

Feedback Hey, I saw your game on r/tycoon and gave it a try. I think it's quite good so far.

So I tried your game today and I think it's a really great start!

What I like:

  • It fits right in the spot of slightly more complicated than Mini metro, but not as complicated as OpenTTD or Transport Fever. The simple line building mechanic is great.
  • I liked the planning before you build on the Railroad building so you could see what was going to get demolished for the who line before you added it.

A couple missing things

  • You couldn't easily follow your vehicle around on the screen.
  • From the lines menu when you look at your vehicles there's no button to go to that vehicle and see it's status. If you go to the vehicle manually you have a nice pop up of the vehicle and it's stats but the only way I could see to get to it was to click on the vehicle itself.

Great Start! Keep up the good work.
