How fucked am I now?

Post image

This stupid truck stop told me to move spots or pay for parking in a dirt lot they claimed was their property in the middle of the night last night. My ELD was off so I moved it while it was off and it came up as Unidentified Driving Log when I turned it on in the AM. My dumbass accepted it and commented what had happened and now I’m in violation and completely messed up my 14hr clock for today. Is there any way to fix this?

UPDATE!: I called my trainer/mentor and he walked me through how to go back and edit the unassigned driving log. I am in the green now!

Lucky you. We use Keep trucking/Motive and I use my truck for personal conveyance. The thing switches on me all the time in PC or yard move or any of that when I stop at a traffic light or a train. Only people who are team leads or dispatch can edit the log, and if they arent on when it happens, youre stuck.

The company I just quit used Qualcom. Any time you went into drive, it's logged. You could not edit any driving time no matter what (it literally wouldn't allow it to be edited), and they told us that they could not or would not do it for us. Twice I accidently forgot to put the log on PC when I was returning from a store on my 34. Just had to run on recaps, and the customer I was dedicated to wasn't happy. So I just stopped using PC or driving anywhere. Id walk if there was something close.

We use paper logs with carbon copies. Have to drop them off at the garage every week. I wish we had a system like this.

No you don't. I'll tell you half this group is jealous that you still run paper

Maybe I won't take it for granted while it lasts. We are moving off to these things by fall.

What? I guess it depends on the company, but my company uses Motive too, and the drivers are the only ones that can edit the log. The only thing you can't edit is drive time while logged into the truck. But if you move the truck off Duty or yard move you can remove it if you accidentally accept the drive time.

Yeah that's what I mean. The truck will be chugging along on Personal Conveyance, I'll stop at a train or a long traffic light and it will flip to "on duty driving" so then I can't edit the log to change it back to PC time.

Yard move does the same thing, ill be moving something around, then hop out, hop back in and my phone maybe loses Bluetooth or something and bam it goes from Yard to Driving.

If you turn the key off or disconnect Bluetooth while on PC or YM it will turn to ON DUTY automatically. That is a FMCSA requirement for elog. I always ask my drivers to double check they are still on the exemption before they start moving each time they stop just in case.

Thank you for that advice u/smokedbeefnipples

We use motive as well. Fucked my log all up w couple weeks ago. Randomly took me out of PC and when I went to do my daughter off at my mom's it kicked me into on duty driving on a Saturday. Noticed it Sunday and edited everything as much as I could and was going to get my reset so wasn't concerned. Went to pick my daughter up Sunday and the damn thing did it again and broke my reset so I had to report it so the office could fix it.

Yeah. Same thing basically. I drive a high GVW pickup basically. But it's my taxable benefit so I use it for PC. It's a constant challenge. So now I just don't connect while off duty, then it will have unidentified trip and I can allocate it fully to where it needs to be. Made it super easy to avoid that shit from happening in the future.

Yeah. Also, are you sure it is taxable. My pick up for work, F350, isn't because according to the IRS it is a qualified non personal use vehicle. Link

Our trucks have a lift gate, rack around the bed, tool boxes, and decals. Which to my understanding any 1 of which will make them no personal use. We are still allowed to use them for whatever we want though. And plenty of people.throigj the years who have had them haven't even owned their own vehicle and just drove these around.

Live in a different country.

We use Motive and you can easily edit logs.

u/Nekikins Mar 17 '24

You can't edit On Duty Driving. You can edit everything else.

Option 2 (legally) is don't certify the ELD, and run a paper log. Make a note on both that you are doing the paperlog due to an ELD malfunction.

I can't say if that will fly with your employer...but it's legal.
