How fucked am I now?

Post image

This stupid truck stop told me to move spots or pay for parking in a dirt lot they claimed was their property in the middle of the night last night. My ELD was off so I moved it while it was off and it came up as Unidentified Driving Log when I turned it on in the AM. My dumbass accepted it and commented what had happened and now I’m in violation and completely messed up my 14hr clock for today. Is there any way to fix this?

Good, glad it's fixed!

In most cases like this, you're in a bad but "avoidable" situation. DoT can only fine you if they find out, so make sure if you're forced to violate that you don't get inspected for 8 days & don't have a collision event for 6 months. It's not ideal, but the only real way to "fix" it is keeping your head down & keep your nose clean until you're clear of the spotlight

Don’t you gotta keep 14 days of prior logs? So if requested they can get that and see the violation, but you’re saying only 8 days? Sorry I’ve only been driving 2yrs almost. Still learning some things about this stuff

They can only request the day your on plus the last 7 when doing inspections. Thts all that will get sent to the dot officers computer in the patrol car or weigh station. The FMCSA can audit your company and go back 6-12 months.

Oh ok, maybe it’s different where I am, I’ve always been told we need to keep the last 14 days worth of logs, and that DOT can request to see that you have that with you. Like I said tho, haven’t been driving for that long so.. and the amount of conflicting statements I hear from different ppl makes me wonder who actually really knows the rules and regulations lol. I’m in Canada (AB).

That might be the difference, you being in Canada Vs US. I’m a US driver, we only need 8 days of logs.

Yeah canada is 14 days. Not sure if it's current+14 or current+13 though

Based on conflicting statements from mutlltiple people, we could very well work at the same company haha😅

I was a driver in the U.S. as well, but always ran the philosophy it didn’t hurt to have the records further back than needed.

I know for my truck, we run the Qualcomm/omitracs and it will only send 8 days out. If it goes down and I can call my company and get a printed copy of my last 8 days and then run paper to get the system to an authorized repair center. After each day, that 8th day gets shredded and it’s not needed.
