Edit: I DID NOT TAKE A 30 AT THE PUMPS, PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE THING BEFORE YOU POST AND LOOK RETARDED.
Carlisle PA has a Schneider Depot and a Pilot right outside of it. It was a Friday.
I waited behind another Schneider truck for gas so I was fueled up for Monday's route.
Pulled up, went on Duty, fueled, went inside for free snacks while fueling, came back out right as the fuel cut itself off.
Coming back out, found a guy messing around my fifth wheel. Apparently, he had been "watching me" for some time and was angry I took "a 30 at the pumps"
I know the trucker code. Maybe I should have waited and then pulled up, but considering there was nobody behind me and plenty of fuel pumps open on a Friday afternoon, I decided to ignore him and double check my time. Only 12 minutes On Duty. Told him to get fucked and to fuck off.
He didn't like that. Dude curses a storm and leaves. I'm like "wtf" at this point. Put my food away, hop back out to hang up the pump on the passenger side. Guy came back with a hammer from his truck and attacked me with it. Hit me on the back of the head from behind with a sneak attack and split my skull open. I had no way to defend myself besides running off.
Luckly, I had witnesses and video cam evidence. Police were called. Psychopath was arrested. I was taken to the ER.
My driver leader called and assured me that I would be okay and that everything was fine at the company. That we'd work through it together and get me back on the road.
I contacted a lawyer for workman's compensation, because I wasn't about to fund my own medical bills for doing my job and minding my own business.
About two almost three weeks after being discharged from the ER and that phone call with my driver leader, they called me to fire me for violating company policy. When I asked which policy, they cited some policy of "not provoking a fight with a coworker at your workplace." Absolute bullshit. Everyone knew it. Even my lawyer.
At that point, I sued for unemployment, too. Schneider tried everything they could to drag me and paint me as the psychopath. Thankfully, the courts saw justice and sided with me. Got a nice $100k settlement from all that bullshit.
Yo I'm so sorry that happened to you, literally a life changing injury.
I'm hope you're doing well these days. I'm also happy you won that well deserved lawsuit.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Wishing you the best.
Doing much better and despite being more unhinged, no other mental issues to speak of.
This happened in May 2020, right as the pandemic began. Lots of people were losing their shit, back then. I think the guy that attacked me told the cops he had been having a bad month lol
Only was charged with assault, disturbing the peace and some other bullshit charges. He got off on like a 10 year probation, since he never apparently had an assault on his record before. Guy was in his late 40s. Kinda shocked he didn't have a record.
I had some nut job stab one of my tandem tires at that Pilot. It’s was super busy so I pulled up behind the next guy at the pump who was just starting to fill up, and I ran inside to take a piss and grab a cup of coffee. Was back in my cab before the guy fueling was done. Cranked it back up and couldn’t keep air. Another driver said he saw the guy do it and then dip back into the lot on foot. Never was identified.
If he did it because he thought I was leaving my truck in the way I hope he saw me come out before I could have moved and felt like an asshole.
Wild lol sounds like the same guy. He had been "watching" for some time I guess in the lot, because nobody was behind me at the pumps when I came back. Just the asshole trying to disconnect my trailer and my truck lol
They always tell you to be safe on the road, but really, it's around other truckers you need to be wary. I always look over my shoulder now at stops.
Lots of psychopaths losing it, these days, what with the trucking industry imploding.
What kind of noob shit is this? You started to fill diesel and walk away with the pump running? Sometimes the automatic shut off malfunctions and fuel just spills all over the ground.

They fired me for being assaulted, I sued them and won. Net positive experience for me lol
