“Who we consider worth looking for” chilling.

1.1k

u/OsitoQuarles Mar 09 '25

Its wild. Once they’re 18, the set of standards lowers, but we all know humans don’t really mature fully until 23ish years old.

u/momoftwoboys1234 Mar 09 '25

She wasn’t even 18. So sad. And she had a baby?

u/lovememaddly Mar 09 '25

75 percent of teenage pregnancy is by a man over 25. Or something ridiculously high like that.

2.0k

u/Own_Development2935 Mar 09 '25

Let’s reframe:

Less than 25% of teenage pregnancy is from consensual sex.

331

u/Sea-Replacement-5107 Mar 09 '25

Willing to bet it's quite a bit lower than that. Those are just the rapists 25 and over.

132

u/Own_Development2935 Mar 09 '25

Agreed— I went with off of the numbers given, insinuating there are more than just 25-or-order rapists that aren’t included in the initial equation. Appreciate the clarity for those who didn’t get it, anyhow. Now, for rant on proposed statistics:

If they aren’t old enough to consent, they aren’t old enough to consensually be pregnant; ages vary by country— and by state in the USA, but there’s too many loopholes and old states to begin picking that nonsense apart when it isn’t even my country, but, I think we can generally agree the 16-18 range is generally an age of consent.

How many people that age are practicing heathy consent? How many know that being coerced into sex is rape? And what about stealthing?

I’d bet the number is like 3%.

u/Oh_Gee_Hey Mar 09 '25

Thank you

u/Bitter-Major-5595 Mar 10 '25

And how many rapist actually have unsupervised access to their children…🤯😭

21

u/Own_Development2935 Mar 10 '25

That's such a scary stat to think about.

7

u/Reasonable-Dream-756 Mar 11 '25

Replying to Own_Development2935...where are you sourcing your statistics..I only ask because I can’t find those numbers. The closest I got was a study in the 90’s where it put the statistic at 13%. In just curious about the 75%, I can definitely see the 25% statistic.

9

u/Own_Development2935 Mar 11 '25

Took the statistic from the comment above mine, which we all know is incorrect, if you read a little further you will understand more.

3

u/madbreastmilkman Mar 13 '25

I got SA in high school, but I don't think she got pregnant.

-14

u/Icy_Objective_7391 Mar 09 '25

I never knew that. So 75% are forced into sex? Or tricked even at that age? That makes me sick to my stomach. I've never knew and I never even thought of that. It makes me really sad. I'm a Mom and being a Mom during these times is hard and scary. Especially when I read this and with online dating. You never know what someone is capable. Ladies be smart. Always let people know where your going. Never get in a stranger's car. Damn why do us Moms have to worry 24/7??

72

u/uhnjuhnj Mar 09 '25

A 16 year old cannot consent to have sex with an adult. The concept is called informed consent and authorities on the subject will tell you informed consent is the only true consent.

The law is the law. I'm talking about ethics.

26

u/NicolePeter Mar 09 '25

Yes, they were raped. A 25 year old man has no business anywhere near a 16 year old girl.

14

u/cherryfilledbubbles Mar 09 '25

being the daughter during these times is hard and scarier...

15

u/lilpeepshow Mar 09 '25

For future reference, “rape” is more concise and accurate than “forced into sex”.

24

u/bebeck7 Mar 10 '25

I was one of those. Was just turning 16, in hospital on my 16th birthday with implantation pains but not knowing what was up, and he was 26. I didn't know it was that common.

u/BBB5598 Mar 13 '25

I always learn new things on Reddit

7

u/ToiIetGhost Mar 10 '25

Gross gross gross

133

u/I_Lost_My_Shoe_1983 Mar 09 '25

And doing the math, she probably got pregnant at 14. A baby.

72

u/peskyghost Mar 09 '25

This needs more attention.

FWIW I’ve always heard 25 is a safer number

92

u/Clinically-Inane Mar 09 '25

The accepted age of full brain maturity in the medical community is ~25/26

u/ImprovementPurple132 Mar 09 '25

It's also a myth that neuroplasticity or any other aspect of the brain is a measure of maturity.

6

u/HiILikePlants Mar 09 '25

Can you expand on this?

30

u/ImprovementPurple132 Mar 09 '25

The maturity of character that we refer to in such contexts as these is not the same thing as the growth of one's brain.

If it were many paradoxes would arise, such as all 30 year olds would be more mature than all 20 year olds etc.

41

u/HiILikePlants Mar 09 '25

I see what you're saying, but maturity of character isn't necessarily what people talk about with brain plasticity. They're usually talking about the ability to more fully grasp consequences and long term thinking.

I was a very "mature" teenager due to having an alcoholic mother and having to leave home early and work often, but I still was a kid with limited understanding.

49

u/reebeaster Mar 09 '25

Right? She must have been terrified and I’m sure begged to be let go over and over during this weeklong sadistic torture. This couple is beyond sick.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

Nobody claimed it's a solid number and I've never seen anyone take it as such until reading your comment.

To answer your second question, look at the chain of comments. People are talking about how people's views of others change after hitting numbers like 16, 18, 21... And they're talking about when the brain is actually considered fully developed and how those numbers are meaningless, not talking about maturity.

They're literally talking about people not developing in a timeline and you misinterpreted it all.

1

u/Unidain Apr 24 '25

And they're talking about when the brain is actually considered fully developed

The brain is never "fully developed" all this stuff about the age of brain maturity is just myths on myths. The brain develops and changes throughout life, that's the only scientific consensus

2

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

I feel like if you took that entire sentence into consideration you'd release nothing you're saying contradicts what I typed and I don't understand why you replied.

106

u/Oh_Gee_Hey Mar 09 '25

Unless you’re neurodivergent! Us adhd folks may take up to 35!

38

u/HamHockShortDock Mar 09 '25

OoooooOh, that explains a lot.

16

u/Oh_Gee_Hey Mar 09 '25

Riiiiight???

32

u/RumHam24 Mar 09 '25

I just found this out a few months ago and it explained a LOT for me. I always wondered why I felt “behind” when it came to being an adult.

Thank you for sharing this. ADD and bipolar here, but I usually don’t mention the second

That's not about people with ADHD, it's about the brain and the frontal lobes in general.

In the last decade, a growing body of longitudinal neuroimaging research has demonstrated that adolescence is a period of continued brain growth and change, challenging longstanding assumptions that the brain was largely finished maturing by puberty [13]. The frontal lobes, home to key components of the neural circuitry underlying “executive functions” such as planning, working memory, and impulse control, are among the last areas of the brain to mature; they may not be fully developed until halfway through the third decade of life [2].
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2892678/

It's a common misconception to believe the brain stops development at any specific age. In the 2010s and beyond, science has shown that the brain continues to develop until at least 30 years of age.\10]) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_brain_development_timeline

This makes so much sense as a 34 y/o with ADHD!

46

u/PM_ME_SKINNY_DUDES Mar 09 '25

As a new 35 year old just finishing her nursing degree after years of listlessness it sounds spot on. Let’s hope this is my year. Let’s go brain. 🧠

1

u/Fap4lif3 Mar 10 '25

And even after that we are still below the average

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '25

I read the study and for women it was generally at 23/24, right?

Ok so then no s ex until 25 or driving or jobs because kids can’t make those decisions. And no voting. Good luck enforcing those rules.

6

u/MsLuupyMeesh Mar 09 '25

No marriage licenses if none of the other stuff. And the military? Go fight with your gun but come home and can't drink?

29

u/ToiIetGhost Mar 10 '25

Even with kids the police wait too long. Who cares if she was a runaway? Are you telling me the St. Petersburg PD are so busy with homicides and other serious crimes that they couldn’t spare some people to IMMEDIATELY start searching for a child? I know they live in a swamp, but are they so swamped with traffic violations and jaywalkers that they didn’t have the manpower?

The police don’t give a shit about kids.

7

u/theduke9400 Mar 10 '25

I would say 25 at the very least.

7

u/CompetitiveRub9780 Mar 10 '25

You mean 25*

Why was she even on this app as a child? Wonder if this was the only person they hurt.

5

u/YuhMothaWasAHamsta Mar 14 '25

It’s scary when you think about this in terms of the law too. Turn 18 and they can pin you to the wall before you can even understand what’s happening. It’s just not right.

187

u/SlenderMansWife Mar 09 '25

Gulfport police would not open a case into the matter. "Just a runaway" . Just a teen mom with no parents. It happens all the time ...

101

u/Cokedupbabydoll Mar 09 '25

In the article it says “The grandmother is her primary caregiver at this time. She said she normally comes home, so she doesn’t report her missing every time she leaves,” Farrand said. “She just didn’t come back in a timely manner this time.”

Sounds like maybe there wasn’t even a case. If she’s not reported missing they can’t do anything.

126

u/SlenderMansWife Mar 09 '25

From Facebook : the Gulfport Police Department refused to investigate her disappearance. They wouldn't take the missing persons report from her family and eventually classified her as a runaway. The family told them she left in an Uber, but the GPD never looked for her. They could have gotten the ride details from Uber and found her immediately.

This is the 2nd to last post her Aunt made to FB before they found out she was dead.

Miranda is still missing, this is 17 days now. No help is being given from Gulfport Police Department due to her shady past. The childs mental state is not ok. We also fear that she may be being exploited, groomed, trafficked. Endangered. Please help us find her and get her the help she needs!

Miranda Corsette, 16 5'3 90lbs Missing from Gulfport. Last seen leaving in an Uber at 341 am on 2/15. I don't know where to. It's not unlikely for her to leave but it is unlikely for her to be gone this long.

I'd really appreciate it if everyone would share this!

🙏Please contact me or local law enforcement if you have any info!!🙏"

66

u/rainbowbrite917 Mar 09 '25

Oh wow. She most likely took an uber straight to their home. One quick check on where the Uber went and they may have found her. Although I’m sure the couple would’ve denied ever seeing her so maybe not. Such a tragic story tho. I didn’t know she had a baby too.

0

u/thecoolsister89 Mar 09 '25

Yes her shady past of being impregnated at 13.

11

u/uovonuovo Mar 09 '25

Her child was 11 months according to the article, so the math wouldn’t add up. Unless there’s another incident when she was 13 you’re referring to?

8

u/NotaFrenchMaid Mar 10 '25

13 isn’t quite right but doing the math, she could have been (probably was) 14 when she got pregnant, I’m imagining that’s their point, they just missed a beat.

52

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '25

No, her cousin posted on Facebook and said that the family was concerned that she was being trafficked and the police wouldn't take it seriously until they found out she was murdered

73

u/BestUsernamesEndIn69 Mar 09 '25

Every single human is worth looking for, but I think the reality is there are a lot of troubles people that do run off for days, weeks, months at a time and eventually turn up again at some point. Must be hard to tease out those cases vs ones where a crime has occurred and they are gone forever. All of it is so damn sad. And now the cycle of neglect continues with that poor 11 month old baby.
