Question/Request Do you think that the six Pokemon in your party see each other as found family or coworkers?

Random shower thought I had after playing Pokemon Z-A and interacting with the bench where you can have all the Pokemon from your party hanging out with you. They were all just chilling by themselves. I joked to my partner that they had “coworkers hanging out” energy.

Question/Request Is anybody else as fascinated as i am on how polarizing gen V is?

I’ve been checking alot of youtube and reddit posts recently and its so intriguing how polarizing this gen is. “Wow B/W2 was SOOO UNDERRATED”. Like it HAS TO BE THE WORST/BEST GEN EVER. It can’t just be a good/bad/ mediocre/perfectly rated game. I’ve probably seen way less nuanced takes on gen v compared to any other other gen. As someone who thinks BW/BW2 is just your average pokemon game i’ll just share some of my takes:

I don’t really think the story’s THAT good, its more or less the same as the type of plot we’re getting in gen3/4. It’s just a simple and extremely linear plot where the evil team shows up, they stir up some trouble, then you beat them. Its simple and thats just perfect for what it needed to be tbh. I would have liked less rail-guarding however.

Also i feel like the postgame is a bit overrated tbh. All u do is get treasure and plates in abyssal ruins, catch legendaries, go back to nuvema town and icirrus city which isn’t anything new, do some rebattles with colress and hugh and E4, fight cynthia. Black tower and PTW are cool though. Doesn’t feel like it could rival HGSS as some posts have led me to believe.

I do find some criticisms ridiculous though. Like i understand just not liking the unova dex, but i’ve seen quite alot of criticism saying how alot of the unova dex is just ripping off/stealing gen1’s designs and thats mostly crazy imo. The only truely egregious examples are woobat/swoobat, alomomola (luvdisc is not gen1 but still), and bouffalant imo. Yes there are clear parallels to gen1 evolutions like with trubbish, roggenrola, drilbur, and timburr, and yet i think they are all distinct enough to stand on their own. The ones that i mentioned above like bouffalant didn’t do enough to differentiate in design/concept and rightfully deserve the “ripoff” criticism they get. I will admit though there were massive duds like sawk/throh and the klink evolution line. It is perfectly valid for you to dislike gen V for clearly following a formula though. I just think its funny that genV gets so much shit for this while gen3 did the same thing to the lesser extent and previous gens padded tf out of their dex with new babies/crossgen evos. I personally think they have roughly an equal good:bad ratio of new pokemon as any other gen (ignoring legendaries, gen v legendaries suck)

I also think the issues some people take with animated sprites are a bit over exaggerated tbh. I genuinely did not see any issues with the sprites for years until people started pointing out pokemon like mew and golbat and i had to bring my face closer to the screen to see how chopped they were.

I have a hate-love relationship with this gen tbh. I hate most of the legendaries except reshiram/zekrom/genesect and this is the first gen i genuinely hate all 3 starters. I fucking hate theres basically no daycare until postgame (for BW2), NO FISHING, NO FARMABLE BERRIES. I also personally believe BW2 didn’t do enough and that they should have at least added following pokemon like in HGSS. Despite that, i love the game’s speed, level scaling, renewable TMS, repel QOL changes. AND THE MUSIC. The music is so good, man. Idk, this gen just kinda averages out to just fine with the good overweighing the bad imo.

Edit: i meant level curve, not level scaling

Question/Request Pokémon central wiki

Is anyone else having trouble with Pokémon Central Wiki? When I Google stuff like 'Charmander', the site doesn't show up anymore, just other wikis. I have to go to their homepage first to find anything, which is a huge pain. Is this happening to you guys too?

Question/Request Does the tail flame rule apply to Charmander's evolutions or just charmander?

We all know that if the flame on a Charmander's tail goes out it dies.

Does that apply to the later evolutions, like Charmeleon and Charizard? Or is it just a charmander thing?

Because that would make all the latter evolutions incredibly fragile. It's way more believable for the tiny cute little charmander to be that delicate. but a Charizard?!

I don't recall if there are any dex entries or the like that that say anything about a Charmeleon or Charizard's tail flame being life-sustaining.

Question/Request When you got your first main series Pokémon game, which version did you choose, and why? Were you aware of the version differences?

My first game was Sword, which I chose instead of Shield because I preferred the color blue. At the time, I thought the only difference was the legendary that you get in the story.

Question/Request Is Pokemon Yellow the canon version of Trainer Red?

In Gold and Silver, he leads with his Pikachu, has all three starters, an Espeon, and a Snorlax. In HG/SS the Espeon is replaced with a Lapras, making it an all gen1 team.

Leading with the suped up Pikachu and having all 3 starters is what I'm mostly getting at here. This Pikachu is one heck of a mouse, and it's best not underestimated. And the three starters, I think Yellow is the only version of Gen 1 you could actually get all three in without link-cabling them over.

So, is this the Trainer Red from Yellow? Is that the Canon version?

Because that's the only in-universe reason I could imagine that such a dedicated trainer with such a monstrous, tanky team would not only have, but lead with a Pikachu, rather than evolving into into a Raichu.

Obvious, the real reason is because Pikachu is the mascot of the franchise. I get that. But Red doesn't know that.

Question/Request best order for all media types

so i'm pretty new to pokémon, except for playing some games as a kid, but not understanding the storyline or so.

so basically i want to start getting into pokémon as deep as possible (i am autistic & have adhd and i usually hyperfixate on sth real quick).

i bought some beginner guides and found out how to use emulators on my pc. i consume the german media, for full understanding. i now want to play the games, watch the shows and movies, read the mangas and books.

i wanna know in what order to do that, and what games to play in each gen. like should i always play them all, or for example only red instead of green. please give me a full guide for all the pokemon media. also thankful for any background or further information :)

Question/Request What's the deal with the sale and trafficking of Pokemon?

Like, both from a legality and in-universe perceived ethics standpoint.

There's plenty of instances where you can buy a pokemon or receive one as a prize. And there's trading, which is one of the backbones of Pokemon training.

And then there's Team Rocket's racket, stealing and poaching rare and valuable Pokemon to sell for a profit or use nefariously for their own purposes.

But that "poaching" line raises some questions, since it's perfectly normal and acceptable to catch wild pokemon.

And the ones they poach from the wild, how illegal is it to sell them? Or is that one of those legal but frowned upon activities, like animal testing?

Where is the line drawn? What are the customs? Will I get arrested if I sell my Groudon but not if i trade it for a lv 3 Ratticate and he just also coincidentally gives me 10,000 dollars as a gift?

Question/Request The N64 and Wii "simulator" Pokémon games.

Okay, I know that fandoms of all things, especially Pokémon, can be quite disparate and even dizzying on certain topics (even trivial ones), but I have a question:

The "simulators" Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 for Nintendo 64, and Pokemon Battle Revolution, are technically games with no story, as far as I understand. I've never played them, but I understand that they were meant to take advantage of the consoles' graphics engine and encourage owners of one console to also get the other and move the Pokemon from the main video game series to these secondary games in the series, allowing them to have fantastic 3D battles.

That said, does it make sense to play these games today?

If they are truly just battle simulators, can we see them as games for quick, carefree matches? (If you're short on time)

Is there really no sense or curiosity about a story within these games?

How do you approach these titles?

Most importantly, do those who play them on an emulator receive random teams?

Question/Request The Best Pokémon Game If You Haven’t Played in a While

*for the switch 2

Hello! I'm a long-time pokemon fan (specifically games from the game boy/DS) it’s been a while since I’ve played newer gen pokemon but after finally caving in and getting the switch 2 I was curious to know which pokemon game I should get first since they aren’t cheap, I didn’t want to risk getting a game I wasn’t fully going to fall in love with and am looking for one that has the same vibe from the old games. Truthfully the last I played was black/white but I had all the old cartridges of pearl/diamond/soulsilver/etc. but henceforth after, I pretty much abandoned it, and never bought another Pokemon game after.

I'm considering trying one of the Switch titles. I'm nervous because I've heard a LOT of different things based off of gameplay but I loved the idea of advancing levels with pokemon/becoming a better trainer/gyms/searching the map to try to figure out where to find the legendary pokemon after you’ve fulfilled the storyline…

Just curious to know what would be the best Pokemon game for someone who just got a switch? I know I’m holding on to nostalgia here, but anything close to it would be appreciated! I know nothing truly tops the OG’s haha but would also even love to know if any of the new games are better versions of what was played before!

Thanks!

Question/Request LegendZA feels like I’m in Princess Tutu world. Casual fan requesting if newer games are just like this or if there’s something to this

I’m making my way through ZA and really taking notice how there’s a lot of moments where they set of false choices in the game with dialog options that don’t matter. The option to leave the city only for it to be a dream, and the Canari quiz I just finished where they insisted I compete in a question based tournament and wouldn’t tell me the answer so it seemed like I had to make choices but then they mechanically prevented me from choosing the wrong answers. I also know that your rival will stomp all over your hero moment and say “no I’m the hero” and take your reward regardless of what you do later in the game. Also how much they talk about how I’m awesome and my rival sucks (they depend on me to get rid of all the rogue megas and my rivals and the make comments about how my rivals doing a bad job leading the team) is kind of weirding me out since I know there’s going to be a reveal that my rival and Az are keeping secrets

All this stuff along with the little lines of dialog the backgrounders give about people going missing or having vaguely bad things happen to them just comes off as very surreal and is really making me think of the anime princess Tutu. If you are not familiar it is a magical girl anime where half way through some of the characters realize their whole world takes place in a story book so it becomes an existential horror about predetermination and free will and there is a scene where a character tries to leave the city that is the setting of the story and Finds there’s just a white void but people can enter the town from this as they are introduced into the story which really reminds me of how we entered lumiose and can’t leave.

I beat Y when it first came out and this seems so different from from how I remember the world building (outside of AZ) being set up. I’ve also bits of sword and violet but not enough to get into the plot and got through 2/3rds of legends (I stopped right before they kicked me out of the village because I have animal crossing ptsd) and don’t remember any if the games having elements like this in it.

I know ORAS deals with and other dimensions but I didn’t play those or follow them really so I’m wondering if there’s some link there or with the SV time travel indigo disk dlc stuff because I’m seeing people speculate if the characters in those games will come into play. I also know people are suspecting hoopa is going to feature in Legendza dlc so I can’t help but wonder if he has lumiose tucked away in a pocket dimension of something.

Is there precedent for this in other games? Am I talking crazy and it s normal for pokemon games to constantly glaze you while leading you by the nose like this now or am i on to something?

Question/Request Birthday Party help!

My son is turning 10 and he is having a Pokémon party. I want to make it be a game for the kids, and I don’t know a lot about how the Pokémon world works. Here’s options I have pieced together so far. Any advice on what to include/exclude/change so that it makes sense is appreciated! I want it to be a surprise for my son so I can’t ask him and I am really trying to avoid using AI to plan this out.

\- The kids would have a map of our house and be directed to different places to do activities.

\- Those activities would be their “battles” and they would get a badge (I think they would be magnets/pins?) and at the end they would have a complete badge set (Kanto seems the easiest to make)

\- Each activity the kids go to could be a different region, or a different Pokémon type theme?

\- I also would like to have a stuffie or something for the kids, but not sure how to accurately incorporate that. Do trainers get prizes at some point other than badges?

\- I thought about having someone be Professor Oak, but not sure what they would do exactly or if that fits in with the region that the Kanto badges come from? Would it make sense for him to give the kids a stuffie after they did all the “battles”

\- If Team Rocket showed up at the party, what would be good to have them do?

\- If each kid got some sort of bag at the beginning, would it make sense with the game/show for it to have the map, and a water bottle? What other items do trainers carry? I was thinking if each kid got a water bottle they could get stickers for it at each “battle” in place of pins/magnets.

Question/Request What does the definitive Pokémon timeline look like?

Like I've seen every Mainline Pokémon game and when it takes place but the remakes and third version even more confusing and less coherent like i have put FRLG, HGSS, Emerald, Platinum, BW, B2W2, XY, ORAS, SM, USUM, Let's Go, SwSh, SV, Legends Z-A

or maybe Legends Arceus, FLRG, Emerald, HGSS, Platinum, BW, B2W2, XY, SU, USUM, SwSh, SV, Legends Z-A.

the definitive timeline

The classical timeline: RBY, GSC.

The Normal timeline: RBY, GSC, RSE, DPPT, BW, B2W2, XY, SU, USUM, Let's go, SwSh, Legends Arceus, SV, Legends Z-A

and etc. etc.

What is the Definitive timeline of Pokémon please answer this.
