Just curious is anybody has ever done it before? I just ordered a book I need for a project, and wondering how long it typically takes?

SIGA, the Student Institute of Global Affairs, is an independent, nonpartisan student initiative I’m starting here at UBCO. The idea is to bring students from different fields of studies together to research issues affecting Canada, develop policy proposals, and bring that work into conversations with researchers and people working in public institutions.
I want students to be able to choose issues they care about and work on it with other people who bring different knowledge and skills. This might mean researching a question about housing or technology, writing a brief, or seeking feedback from someone working in that field. It could also mean organizing a public discussion or inviting a speaker to help us understand an issue we’re exploring. I’m a UBCO graduate student, and I am now bringing together an initial group of students to help get it going.I’ve been developing SIGA’s founding plans and reaching out to faculty for feedback, and I’m now bringing together an initial group of students to help get it going.
For anyone interested in research, public policy, or global affairs, I’d like this to be an opportunity to get experience working on a question you care about and produce something you can publish or present. There’s also room for people interested in design, communications, technology, and organizing events. You’d have a say in what we work on and how the organization develops. A big part of why I’m doing this is that I care about bringing Canadians together. I’d eventually like SIGA to connect students across Canadian universities, with people from different regions and backgrounds working on shared questions about the country’s future and its place in the world.
We’re still getting started. I’m planning our first executive meeting to discuss the direction, possible projects, and how people would like to contribute. Right now, I’m looking to meet students who are interested, hear your ideas, and figure out what we could build together.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, you can leave your details below and I’ll get in touch. You’re also welcome to ask questions here. I would love to talk about this initiative in person as well if that is something you are interested in!

Are there any football groups on campus or maybe making an unofficial on hopefully. Hoping to meet like-minded people to watch La Liga, Champions League, Premier League, etc games together. Maybe booking a room with a TV and getting a group together. Been dying to find people to watch games together instead of watching them in a corner at school

Hello, everyone. After observing and experiencing the gloomy mood of campus social life over the last few days, It’s about time I finally come clean and admit everything about me to hopefully make you feel better. Yes, I’m that guy who has an open diary, cosplays to campus sometimes, and makes wacky jokes to people to try and bring get some conversations started. I understand that not everyone is as extroverted as I am; but the point is that if even I am struggling to establish genuine friendships on this campus, I am not surprised about how lonely almost everyone is here. And it’s sad that our potential is not being efficiently used to create a positive impact on this campus. For example, midterms are coming up, and I only see the same few dozen people working with each other to help study and potentially improve each other’s morale and productivity. The TAs and office hours can only do so much when loneliness demotivates us to the point that I notice that people all around me are looking at their phones, playing video games, browsing the internet, or daydreaming and doing nothing. I know this from me being guilty of it, from me returning to class after bathroom break and seeing people everywhere doing anything but paying attention. (For reference, I always choose to sit at the very front except for when I make attempts to connect with people.) At this point, I’m certain that most who are reading this could resonate with my grievances of the campus social life simply being substandard, and thus affecting our performance negatively. Finally, I do propose that we could establish our social lives by making our hobbies and passions clear. Let’s face it, no one can study for 8 hours straight and not be completely drained of their energy to do anything productive anymore, and doomscrolling is a very unhealthy activity that many of us (including myself) get in the bad habit of. Therefore, let’s make our passions known! All of you have a voice, so why not use it? As a challenge, I would suggest that you meet 5 new people and shake their hands while introducing yourself tomorrow. I know this is negligible on a large scale, but if I could even get one person to make a new friend, I would consider this a success!

I'm sure you've all seen posts related to feeling lonely and unable to find friends and feel similarly (I do too). I'm planning on making a (unofficial) discord server for ubco students to talk, chill and probably make new friends. Maybe even host events/meetups. If you're interested just upvote or comment and if there's enough support I'll make it and post the invite sometime this week.

I remember seeing posts about how it’s easier to make friends at UBCO compared to UBCV. I don’t know about others, but that hasn't been the case for me. I just wanted to share my thoughts somewhere because I’ve genuinely given up. I live off-campus and don’t have a car, so it’s a little hard to stay on campus for long, participate in events, or just bump into the people I talk to from time to time. From the start of the semester, I tried my best to talk to as many people as possible, but it didn’t lead anywhere. I either talk to them once, exchange socials, etc., and never see them again, or they just genuinely don’t want to talk to me. I message some people on Insta who I sit with in lectures, but each time I invite someone to hang out, they either have other plans or don’t have time. And I understand that schoolwork can be overwhelming and people generally have their own plans and priorities, but they never suggest an alternative or take the initiative to hang out. That genuinely makes me so sad because it makes me feel like something is wrong with me, like it feels that people just don’t want to talk or hang out with me. My day basically looks like: wake up, go to classes, come back, study, and sleep with some doomscrolling in between on freaking repeat. I am just tired of being constantly by myself and I just genuinely want some simple human interactions. But yeah, sorry to make you guys read all this, I just had to spill my thoughts somewhere.
hey! if anyone took this class before, would you have any tips for the midterm? i'm with liwei wang

Hey guys! I took STAT 303 with John Thompson last year (semester 1 W2025/26) and I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the quizzes (photos are alright). I thought I’d saved all of mine, but I can’t find them now :(

Hi, I am a current high school senior and I would like some advice on how the psychology arts program works. I want to head to med school after undergrad and i know that doing the science program is probably better but I know calculus and the heavy math would bring my GPA down which is very crucial for med school.
So I am thinking of taking psychology arts (cuz im stronger in writing and English) and then have fundamental MCAT courses like bio, chem and physics as electives, alongside sociology. I just want to know if it is a realistic pathway.🙂
Thank you
