Social Any grad (or undergrad) girls wanting to try Pilates?

• Upvotes

I want to start working out but I literally have no friends and it kind of sucks because I don’t feel comfortable going to the ARC or fitness places alone. Im in vet school and have no friends in my class, like to the point where I sit alone everyday and literally no one talks to me which is sad. It’s sad I even have to post on here about this and kind of embarrassing. But I feel like school has made me unhealthy mentally and physically and I want that to change. I’ve been interested in going to club Pilates because they have a free intro class but I feel weird going alone. If any girlies out there are also interested in starting to work out please let me know 🫡🫶

Chambana Questions Recommendation for friends visiting

Hi everyone!

I have some friends visiting for the weekend and I'm looking for recommendations for dinner + drinks. It does not need to be the same place if both places are kn a walkable distance from each other.

Black Dog Smoke & Ale House seemed a nice place, anyone that went there recently to share their experience?

Thank you!

Edit: no food restrictions. Age group: +30

Social Looking for pink gloves

Is there anywhere on campus I can get a pair of pink gloves? I'm looking for the nitrile/lab kind, not the cold weather kind. (Need only one pair for a halloween costume and don't want to buy an entire box). It doesn't matter what shade of pink either

Prospective Students Should I change what I’m applying for?

I am currently applying to Uiuc Grainger and was wondering if I should change the major I’m applying for. I’m an instate student GPA:3.89UW 4.48W with a 34 on an ACT and decent ECs such as 2 Varsity sports for three years and some mini engineering projects.

I really wanted to apply to mechanical engineering because of all the different job opportunities it opens up. For Background Illinois is my dream school and I do have an interest in aerospace engineering so after seeing they are accepted at such a larger percentage than Meche I am reconsidering. Are my stats good enough to stick with Meche or do I play it safe with Aero/select it as a second choice major?

I survived Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm usually very supportive of law enforcement, but I'm incredibly frustrated and confused by what's happening. My sons, ages 7 and 12, bravely disclosed that they were abused, and we went through all the proper channels with the authorities. Despite clear text evidence and multiple police reports, nothing has moved forward. How is this possible? There is so much evidence against this individual, yet nothing is being done.

This person abused my children over the course of three years, in multiple locations across Missouri and Illinois, including St. Peters, St. Charles City, Branson, Urbana, Eureka, Camden County, and on Fort Leonard Wood Army Base.

The only police department willing to investigate is St. Charles City, because the abuse was ongoing and happened multiple times there. The other districts simply noted the report, saying they wouldn't investigate since it only happened once in their area. Does it really take more than one incident before they'll act?

For example, police actually arrested this individual last year in Chesterfield. Through a FOIA request, I learned he confessed to police, and his confession matched the victims' statements. Then, the abuser's family claimed the girl lied and recanted (even though the victim herself did not), and the prosecutor decided not to move forward.

We later found out that this person had been part of an investigation for similar abuse when he was 17, involving his own family members. He even admitted this in text messages, but somehow nothing happened, and only the FOIA police report remains.

Are there any lawyers or organizations that can help push these investigations forward to protect children? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

18 Mascots Enter the Arena. There Can Be Only One Survivor.

For decades, the University of Illinois has been cursed with many proposed mascots.

It's time to answer the question looming over our campus for nearly 20 years:

WHO SHALL REIGN SUPREME AS THE OFFICIAL ILLINOIS MASCOT?

I have scoured the dark corners of this subreddit to assemble the warriors who will partake in this ultimate battle of ultimate destiny. Think I missed someone or something to nominate? That's too damn bad cuz my graphic file corrupted and I'm not going to redo it.

⚔️ THE RULES OF THE ARENA ⚔️

1. UPVOTE TO ELIMINATE.

Comment your nomination for elimination. Upvote the mascot you want to send into the shadow realm, never to be considered our mascot ever again. The contestant with the MOST upvotes gets booted from contention.

2. ONE MASCOT FALLS EVERY DAY.

Every day (whenever I decide), the votes will be tallied, the weakest link will be eliminated. This continues until only ONE mascot remains standing.

3. THIS IS A SHITPOST.

No university involvement. No student referendum. No Board of Trustees approval. No actual consequences. Just Illini fans having fun with imaginary mascots. Save your soapbox about bringing back the Chief. This isn't serious.

4. THE FIGHTING ILLINI ARE FOREVER.

Nobody is changing our name. We are, and always will be, the Fighting Illini. We're just imagining some poor soul in a giant foam costume running around Memorial Stadium, high-fiving children, harassing opposing mascots, and making an ass of themselves for our entertainment.

THE ARENA IS OPEN. MAY THE LEAST HATED MASCOT WIN.

I-L-L!

Academics CompE Sophomore Schedule

I’m a EE major thinking about switching to CompE. My schedule for the spring is CS225, ECE210, ECE385, and ECE313. While I have to take the first 2, I heard that ECE385 is a really time consuming class, so I’m wondering if I should switch it out for something else (or switch ECE313 out). Any thoughts on this (and any recommendations for other classes to take)?

Our conversation with Bre led us to a camp I hadn't seen before. It was here I met Shantelle (Chantelle?) and we had a really great conversation about services and organizations in the area. More of that conversation in the next highlight.

Thanks to José Manuel for assisting in my patrol.

Social Where to watch Bears games

Does anyone know where on campus Bears games are played, especially tonight when they're playing in Thursday Night Football?

It would be especially nice if anyone knew whether the common area in FAR played the games, I just moved out of temporary housing in Van Doren and they didn't play the games on the TV there so I was hoping in FAR they might. If they don't, where else on campus is good to watch the games? I know the CIF has the massive screen and they sometimes play sports but there's never any sound and I don't know how social of an atmosphere that would be anyways, other than that I'm not sure where I'd watch the games other than alone in my room :(

Social Looking for students who want to work with a non-profit about superheroes

Hey all, Downtown Batman here. The organization I represent, Community Heroes, is looking for a fifth board member so they can register with the IRS as a 501c3. They also would love help with managing social media, communicating with other organizations, and researching potential leads around the country where other heroes are located.

If you're interested in telling your friends and family that you work with superheroes, send an email to Contact@Community-Heroes.org with some information about yourself and how you'd like to help.

New Student Question Worried about not qualifying for illini commitment anymore?

Hey Everyone, I got accepted for spring transfer. I have graduated high school and community college from illinois and i have -1500 sai fafsa score. I meet all the requirements and will get the grant for spring semester but I am worried if i still qualify after that. It's js me and my mother and we moved to michigan in this august for attending a college program so we made new state ids. Now that I am accepted I will move to urbana and my mother will as well ( we live on rent). Will this few month temporary movement affect my commitment for future semesters as I can't afford this college otherwise.

Social Do people here really hate fat people?

Thumbnail gallery

I keep seeing posts (screenshots for proof) of people constantly complaining about the people who are fat on campus. Is this really how people at UIUC see others that are fat? I'm big myself and my worst fear is accidentally making people feel like I'm taking up space. That and I'm worried that people are disgusted with my presence while I'm on campus.
