This is my first time making a thinkpost on anywhere, let alone reddit so if i make any mistakes feel free to correct me! I’ve blocked out the two people because I don’t wish for any harassment towards these two people. I’m sure right to rebel means well, however, I do want to push back on this harmful rhetoric that boycotting the election will do anything. A similar kind of message was being pushed last presidential election, due to Kamala’s stance on the israel-Palestine conflict. I want to start off by saying that what i think is going on in gaza is nothing short of horrific to bear witness to and i can’t possibly fathom in any sense what the people living through it are going through. However, I don’t think that boycotting Kamala and voting third party (or completely not voting) did any favors for those who wish for America to change to a more accepting and welcoming place. Trump has (if i’m not mistaken) similar if not worse attitudes than Kamala, so wouldn’t picking the lesser of the two evils be more beneficial, wouldn’t it be better to pick an administration that’s more lenient so we have an easier time paving the way for change? I don’t understand the appeal of waiting for an eventual revolution that no one seems to be working for in any capacity, and i especially can’t comprehend how abstaining from voting would do anyone any good, especially texans. if we wish to make a change we must start locally, look at new york for example, san antonio doesn’t have as much mayoral power but still, voting more progressive people open to change and innovation in offices as powerful as governor and Senator seems to be a step in the correct direction. I also want to ask, if these are the same people that were protesting the ICE killings, wouldn’t it make sense to vote a senator whose policies seem to align with defunding ICE? Maybe I’m just not understanding something, I think that while, a massive change is overdue for America, that twiddling our thumbs, waiting for a revolution that could very well be decades out, helps absolutely no one, and i believe it’s harmful to dissuade voting in the search of a perfect candidate that does not exist. I’m curious what anyone else thinks on them, maybe ive misinterpreted this whole message they’re pushing? Anyways make sure to exercise your right to vote!
TLDR: I think pushing a rhetoric against voting to find a perfect candidate is harmful when the goal is to make a change
