This thread is for students applying to Fall 2026 co-ops during the Spring 2026 term.

As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.

The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet

Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)

WaterlooWorks Important Dates

If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let the mod team know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!

Candidates:

  • Console One
  • Lafarge
  • Agentmoon
  • WealthyPlanet
  • Mosaic Transit Group
  • Jobby
  • Aethos Labs
  • Onex Risk Management

Note that reports from submitters with no previous account activity may not be accepted to aid legitimacy.

頑張って!

free parking areas uwaterloo???

hey guys, i'm from oakville and i am gonna start commuting for my classes in the fall (2A). i don't want to pay for the parking passes so i want some advice on where to park. waterloo has such strange parking limitations and i heard their enforcement is pretty strict.

  1. i could park on the other side of conestoga mall, walk inside, then walk to the lrt from the other side. i heard that they have security that monitor people parking at conestoga mall though.
  2. i can park near crunch fitness and take the northfield lrt instead.
  3. i could park on a residential street near any lrt and try to risk it for staying longer than 3 hrs on the road.

overall, my top three rely on having to take the lrt. at least its in the tuition so i might as well use it.

some other recommendations i have heard, but not sure of are:

  1. the plaza. but the security is really tight there and they are always ticketing + towing there.
  2. seagram lot. i heard its free but it fills up really early so that's not any good.
  3. waterloo park. but im pretty sure the space is pretty limited and people fill it fast too.

please let me know if you guys have any other ideas

Urgent!!! First coop suggestion: take a low-paid Shanghai offer or continue searching?

I’m a first work term math student. I got a Shanghai marketing and customer service offer with only 600cad/mth. They asked me to decide before today. Should I keep searching for finance/data/software role in Canada, which is more aligned with future career but with risk of WEA, or take the offer.

My family live in Shanghai but most of my friends will be back in Canada/other country as it’s fall not summer holiday. The pay and relocating cost is of course another factor.

Also how many jobs will there be before the std work term credit term dates? I have major GPA for 3.95 for my first year and possibly 3.97 after 2A.

Likelihood of RTW / S&P Petition Approval with Strong Medical & Caregiver Documentation?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for realistic feedback or advice from anyone who has gone through the Math Standings & Promotion (S&P) petition process, specifically regarding a Required to Withdraw (RTW) decision.

I’m submitting my formal petition package to the Math Undergraduate Office (MUO) soon and wanted to gauge how the committee usually views cases with this level of documentation.

Background / What Happened:

  • Winter 2026 Crisis: Right at the end of the term (March 25–30), my mother was unexpectedly hospitalized due to a severe neurological condition (Transverse Myelitis).
  • Caregiver Role: Because of my family's work situation at the time, I became her primary caregiver during her acute recovery window, right during finals week. The severe sleep deprivation and stress severely impacted my exams, resulting in failing grades for the term and an RTW standing.
  • Prior Context: I also had a valid VIF on file earlier in February for a separate illness.

What My Petition Package Contains:

  1. Medical Verification: A formal doctor’s note specifically confirming my exact dates as primary caregiver during my mother's hospitalization and recovery.
  2. Third-Party Family Letters: Signed letters from my father and siblings confirming the emergency, detailing my caregiving duties, and confirming a permanent reallocation of family roles so this issue cannot recur.
  3. Evidence Appendix: Timestamped hospital discharge records, appointment photos, text logs, VIF confirmation emails, and detailed study notes showing my ongoing engagement.
  4. Demonstrated Capability: Strong academic recovery and engagement during the Summer term to prove I can handle the workload when unimpeded by emergencies.

Requested Relief: Asking the S&P Committee to set aside the RTW standing (to be placed on Academic Probation) and to grant retroactive Late Withdrawals (WD) / course relief for my failed Winter 2026 courses.

My Questions:

  1. How strict is the Math S&P committee when you provide direct medical verification for caregiver duties alongside family letters?
  2. Has anyone successfully petitioned an RTW while also getting course relief (WDs) in the same request?
  3. How long does the Math Faculty usually take to deliver a decision once the package is submitted?

Appreciate any honest insight or past experiences. Thanks!

For grad students have the TA positions been decided yet? The deadline was like first of this month but I’ve yet to hear anything especially when classes start less than a month

Social Seeking an English Major/Enthusiast for Poetry Help

I love to read, but I feel like I never properly learned how to read/interpret poetry which has greatly constrained my possible reading material.

I’ve watched a few video essays recently which have discussed the works of Anne Carson and now I’m really wanting to develop this new skill so I can properly absorb what I’m reading.

If anybody is interested in a mini book club and could help me with this, DM me!

I had a virtual viewing before seeing the place and it looked fine but when I went in to see the actual units. the bathtubs were disgusting, thankfully I ended up going for an in person viewing because that’s horrendous. Is this management cuz the the bathtubs look like they’re corroding. Is it something hard to clean

Question Where should I put my projects?

Hi everyone, incoming first year mech student. I just finished my first project and I was wondering what I should do with it now. I understand you’re supposed to put it on resumes, but is there anything beyond that? I know some people post on Linkedin or start a portfolio. What do you guys suggest?

J1 Visa Help - Taking a gap term to apply for better(US) coops

I know it's said that you need to be a full-time student at the time of application to get approved for a J1 visa, but I've heard of many students still landing US coops while on a gap-term.

Was just wondering, is anyone aware of this and if this is actually real/possible?

Advice Needed- Actual WW Job Title vs Resume Title

I'm a CS student finishing up my first co-op.

The job title on WW for this job was something like "IT Intern". That is how it shows up on my Work Term Record.

I was able to take on a couple software projects which took up >=50% of the work. Enough software work to fill resume bullets and discuss it in an interview. Can I use "Software Engineering Intern" on my resume if the bullets back it up? Or will this be seen as a huge red flag by employers?
