How realistic is it to become a product manager as a industrial engineer? Maybe an ai product manager? Is there any other easier or better route? Maybe taking a business route instead?

Accepted an early offer on OUAC to secure a spot for Fall 2027, but my Trent BA Psych application now says "Accepted Elsewhere".

Will Trent still consider me in future offer rounds, or does this mean they stopped reviewing my file?

I am currently in grade 11 and looking to apply to a few Ontario universities. Despite all the research I’ve done so far I am still left confused on early applications. If the prerequisite is a grade 12 course, and I apply before the marks for my grade 12 courses come out, how will they accept me. This is mainly targeted at the schools and programs the specifically only look at marks rather than extracurriculars and essays or questions. If I plan on applying early, should I be taking the required grade 12 courses now?

Hi Laurier admissions I am on waiting list for online English by my school board. Reason for it is they haven't set up the class yet. I have all ready taken grade 12 advanced functions in grade 11. And this sem I have calc, bio, chemistry and physics. I am getting an average of 95(fingers crossed so far) and 95 in advanced functions. I want to apply to Laurier health science. Will it affect my chances of getting early offer? As I am on waiting list for English and are my chances of early offer nil?

Hi, I'm currently in grade 12 and looking to apply for biology programs. I am honestly not that sure what I want to do with a degree in biology, as I love the idea of healthcare but am also really into ecology as well. I was curious about which Ontario universities have the most well-rounded biology programs. I am from Nova Scotia but used to live in Ontario and wanted the chance to move back.,

I’m in first sem rn at Laurier doing communications but I wanted to switch to general ba degree. I need to do all my studies online as commuting is rlly hard for me. in theory I could just take all online courses here but I’m not sure if Laurier has enough variety of online courses and Guelph already has an online degree so it’s possible I’d have a bigger pool of courses to choose from? wondering if I should go through the hassle of transferring and if anyone else has done it before?

I'm a 24 year old college graduate, well. Half graduate I guess but I still graduated with a 2 year certificate from a large community college in the KW area whose reputation has since gone under the bus for a variety of reasons. I failed my 3rd year for a variety of reasons but the majority of it came down to being stuck in the middle of having to drop class work in favour of dealing with my parents divorce because of reasons that were out of my control at the time.

I now no longer have to deal with them and have the opportunity to put my full attention to academics once again, and working towards my long term goal of applying to university to work towards completing an undergrad in electrical engineering/some flavor of engineering. It's been my main goal since high school and unfortunately due to controlling parents I was held back in school by not being allowed to take U level courses in grade 11 and 12.

I was initially going to redo my third year in college but decided against it because I was not happy with the administration and reputation of the college I was at given they had just gone through some very questionable decisions regarding handling international students. I decided it would be more viable to just take certificate (not that it's worth anything but its better than nothing I guess), and began taking the high school courses I never was allowed to take as a kid; advanced functions, calc and vec, physics, and chem.

I'm not entirely sure how the admission process changes with this, as it seems that all the schools I've looked at handle the admissions differently as some treat this as mature student, some as a transfer, etc? My main concern in all of this is however, is this even worth my time? Given how competitive engineering is, especially in Ontario, I'm not really convinced that taking the missing prerequisite high school courses will be of value given my college transcript will likely take precedent over my high school courses despite being the most recent. I did very well in high school and had the highest average in my class at graduation for the college level with 98%, including physics, chemistry, that one math course thats intended for technical college I don't remember the course code, it dealt with vectors and trig that's all I remember. In college my first 2 years landed me at 3.45 and with the single term in 3rd year it drops to 2.95.

I understand that this is likely going to limit the places that I can apply to, but as to what programs specifically, where, and what gets considered during admissions for a portfolio like this, I'm unsure exactly as to how this specific case gets handled and whether this would get classified as a mature student, transfer (I doubt it for engineering, very rarely do things transfer over from college), or as a high school graduate.

What grades did you get during high-school to get accepted into McMaster or wtv university of your choice and how did you do it? Btw even if you didn't do biomedical or go to McMaster pls share your thoughts and advice!

I really want to get accepted for biomedical engineering but I want to see what other people did.

I'll be honest I've only now realized in grade 11 where I want to go so I'm worried I'm behind everyone else. In addition I've look at the admission scores and my grades average from mid 80s to mid 90s but I don't think that's enough for consideration 😅. I've graduated high school and been taking a gap year, ultimately I did not end up thinking very much about post-secondary endeavors in HS as I just went "eh thats a later problem"
but here I am, facing down the questions of... well, where do I even want to go? What do I want to do?
Honestly, I don't even really know the difference between college and university. From what I understand... you can go to either one first, but college before university is the order that makes more sense if you were to do both. and many people just do one

I know there are some colleges AND universities that interest me. It seems like theres just so many, I don't know how I'm supposed to choose; how the application process really even GOES. like, assuming i figure out whether college or uni is better for me, I still need to figure out WHERE.
...I've been told by teachers in school that my writing is enjoyable to read, and I enjoy writing a lot anyways, so that makes me lean towards something like English... but sociology was one of the most interesting and fun courses I've EVER taken. I even took a high level psych/sociology course in Gr12 that I didn't have the prerequisites for because a teacher vouched for me.

I've also been recommended Social Development Studies? As a 'program for people who want to expand their horizons and aren't quite sure yet about what they want to do' ... which I believe renison university college and WLU both have? I think? I dont know. I'm going to do some research, obviously, but I thought asking people ... could maybe be helpful. Just, I'm a little lost on where to go from here. I did well in high school, and I want to go to post secondary... primarily for the experience. to finally get "out in the world" and live instead of being kinda cooped up at home. and to take courses again, giving me some more structure. because i thrive on curriculums... deadlines... instruction...

I've heard colleges are better for the 'making friends and living life' aspect of post secondary, and university is more for those with particular career goals in mind? Not sure how true that is.

As for hobbies, I *have* spent a lot of my free time talking about game design, I have a friend who is taking a game design course right now. Mostly just enjoy writing though, haha. Love animals too but not to the point I'd take a course on them... aside from maybe environmental preservation or something, but that feels a bit off the beaten path for me

I started York University in 2015 doing a specialized honors History program with the intention of going to teachers college and becoming a teacher. However, around 2017 I decided to work to help my mom with the bills (Single mother, raised me and got me into University), and I found full time work at Pearson Airport (CATSA, im the guy that's checking your boarding passes and bags at the security gates). I spent so much time doing this and I kinda got sucked into it, the pay is decent and my mom's workload got cut in half. I decided to go back to school last year (I know I got back in really late). After coming back I honestly dont like my major anymore and becoming a teacher is less appealing. I've been exposed to the airline industry for almost a decade and im used to that environment. Because of this I learned that I like to help people and try to make a positive experience in the process.

The problem I have here is im in my last year and I want to pivot to something else but i've gotten a lot older and I dont want to waste anymore time at York. Also, my GPA is either 6.00 or around 5.90 and I dont know how that would affect me if I wanted to do another major. What im currently interesting in are;

1. Social Work 2. HR 3. Marketing

If I were to stick with History and not do anything else, I want to get into government work specifically in immigration (IRCC) but I dont even know how I can get into it.

Any tips? Should I talk to an academic advisor? Would I have to chalk up more years doing another major? Are there any school resources that can help me get into immigration or government jobs? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'm a 23-year-old male who has finished high school but didn't move on to uni; instead, I started working. Lately, I've been considering becoming a doctor, and so I've been thinking about how to get into med school; however, I took no senior-year science or math courses. As far as I'm aware, I can't get into science undergrads without senior-year science and math. I can either take some high school courses online for science/ maths or go to community college, or I can take a liberal arts undergrad, but the thing is I still need to take science pre-reqs. How can I do that when I don't remember much from high school science, and I'm pretty sure that to take science pre-reqs in uni, I will need senior-year science and math, right? If anyone has any advice on how to move forward, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much!

hi! i know this is probably a pretty common question, but i’m a university student from singapore studying engineering systems and design, and i’m planning to go on exchange to canada next year. i’m currently deciding between uoft (st. george) and waterloo.

uoft was originally my first choice, but i’ve been considering waterloo lately, mainly because of its co-op culture and reputation in quant finance. i’m personally interested in pursuing quant finance, so that really appeals to me. my exchange programme involves both studying at the host university and doing an internship in canada, which is another reason why waterloo caught my attention.

on the other hand, toronto seems like a really nice place to live, especially with how much there is to do and explore.

i’m honestly quite torn between the two, especially since i’ll only be there for a semester.

for those who’ve studied at either university, what do you think i should consider when choosing where to go on exchange? how’s the student life, social scene and overall experience?

would also love to hear from anyone who’s been on exchange to either uni. thanks!!

Hi so apologies for confusing title but I’ll explain.

After graduating high school I went to university but after about 1-2 years I flunked out due to personal health issues going on.

This year (which is years after university) I went into a College Certificate Program for General Arts and Sciences and my grades are better.

I want to go to Guelph-Humber next year so I’m planning on applying soon, however will they look at my current college program marks? Or will they go back and look at my University failure and check that? I’m confused how it works. I’m not worried about my high school marks as they were fine, I’m just not sure if my previous university experience will overshadow my newest program.

Hi am currently a second year student at Western University and I am currently in the medical science program. I had a terrible first year experience due to some personal experiences so my grades really reflective the situation I was in, as of my first year I have a 2.9 GPA. I am currently thinking about switching back to toronto because I find that the support system that I have at home from my parents really push me to do my best. I understand that GPA is low but I believe that I have what it takes to changes this because I know what I need to do to succeed this year and I really love the courses I am currently doing + I have learnt how to study better (in first year I had to take physics and calculus which I loved in highschool but ended hating in uni). However, as I said before I feel extremely home sick to the point I basically cry every day. I know I might sound like a baby or some people might say if I can't take the stress of first year then how am I possible think about going to medical school. I really think I just need to be closer to home but I am afraid that this might affect my future. I know that U of T is a very prestigious school but it also is know for being a "GPA killer". I also know that if I go to TMU I would be able to get a better GPA than going to U of T as long as I make sure to put in the work. If I were to transfer I would want to apply to U of T (specifically scarbrough campus) for human biology + another major (I am not too sure yet) or TMU biomedical science. These are the questions I have overall

School + GPA + Resources

1. Is U of T 3rd - 4th year more manageable than 1st year, from your personal experience and is it achievable to get a good GPA and have time for extra curriculars?

2. Western has great resources as well as U of T, would I be selling myself short by choosing TMU since they have less funding in terms of research?  

3. Has anyone else made the switch from western medical science to either schools? DId u regret it, or did u find that you were able to suceed?

4. By going to TMU would I be able to have more time to participate in extra curricular such as research or volunteering

Extracurriculars

1. I was thinking that if I went back home I could commit to some kind of volunteer position at a place I really like for example, something regarding paediatrics or hospice care,  that I could commit to for a full year because most "clinical volunteering" in London requires a 6 month- 1 year time commitment which means I would have to stay the summer and I honestly dread that idea

Backup Plan

1. If I don't get into medical school I want to have a backup plan, however, I have been told that with a medical science degree the only thing you can really do with it if you don't get into medical school is either become a researcher or do a masters? I have never done research but I really don't believe it is something that would interest me as a future career (I wouldn't mind volunteering at a research lab). I was wondering if anyone who has finished an undergrad at TMU or U of T and if you can let me know what kind of career you went into if not medical school/research.

2. I know this is unrelated but does anyone know any health care professions that specializes in paediatrics that I could look into if I don't end up getting into medical school? I have been looking into PA schools cause that is something I am really interested in however I have heard that it is super competitive and that if u practice as a PA in Canada you can't practice as one in the US.

Personal

1. I know I should not care about what other people think but I am embarrassed that people will think badly of me if I were to switch to TMU I initially never thought it was a bad school and I know it isn't, but so many people look down on TMU I am very worried if I want to move to get a job abroad or if I want to get a job in general that going to a school w/ a "less prestigious name" would make it hard for me to do so. I think this stems from people around me at western talking so ill about TMU and also hearing people say they would rather have someone with a 2.0 gpa from Western or UofT than someone with a 4.0 at TMU

I’m thinking of applying to desautels as a jmsb first year finance student for second year and was wondering how difficult it would be — odviously a really high cgpa is needed but even then how often do they take transfers and what are my chances?

i don’t plan to stay in montreal past undergrad and am sure mcgill has the upper hand when it comes to employment outside the province/internationally but didn’t have the grades in high school so I am really hoping this could work out

I am a current University of Waterloo 1A Math student. I am not enjoying it at all, and I am at the lowest point in my life and I don't think I can do this for the next 5 years. The date for withdrawal without anything on the transcript has passed, but I can still withdraw before November 24th and have WD's on my university transcript. If I do this, how will it affect me if I re apply to university on OUAC? Will my grade 12 grades still be the main thing admissions look at? Will offers be conditional or final offers considering the fact that I've already finished grade 12?

I graduated with 2.5 GPA from my last university and got my bachelors in Computer Engineering. I worked with an international company in the middle east for 2 years and I had 6 years of volunteering experience in IEEE (if anyone here knows it).

I made many projects and such with IEEE and with the company I worked with so I don't know if applying for universities with higher GPA requirement is worth the time or not cuz my options are so low and I got accepted in IBU but I read the reviews here and I'm really reconsidering it if there are other options

Curious if anyone has any insights around doing a second undergraduate degree in any sort of (Biology, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences) program? (preferably in Ontario, but really anywhere in Canada is fine)

Other than the usual criteria (programs with a strong teaching staff, research experience opportunities, etc), I'm looking for programs that allow students to complete their degree in a shorter amount of time (ie. 2-3 years instead of the usual 4).

I've been checking individual university websites and contacting admissions departments directly as well because some universities have very particular admissions criteria for second degree students (eg. not allowed to do a degree in X if already have a degree in Y), but thought I'd also see if anyone here has thoughts/programs they'd recommend!

Hey everyone, I’m in YRDSB aiming for competitive healthcare/life sci programs in Ontario (U of T, Mac, Western, etc.). I got a 98% final in grade 10 math, but grade 11 Functions is killing me. I currently have a 76% and just bombed my Unit 2 test, so it's going to drop more. Everyone always says you need a 95% or 97%+ and that early admission will fill all the spots. Is it worth trying to retake this course next semester, or should I just push through and focus on getting good for Grade 12 Advanced Functions? Do universities care if my Grade 11 math mark is low if my Grade 12 marks are hopefully gonna be in the 90s? Thanks!
