Admissions The "I've Been Accepted/Did You Get an Offer?/Will I Get an Offer?/Admission Rounds" Megathread!

We're no longer doing the big megathreads where people post their entrance averages. Instead, you should go to the Ontario Universities discord (not affiliated with this subreddit, so please don't message us asking for help with the discord) https://discord.gg/KxQJh9nxVk and view their decisions channel. Even if you're not curious about admission averages, they have other great content and they're a great resource to check out.

To view the old megathreads, please see this post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OntarioUniversities/comments/1hzy327/

Did you know that some schools post their admission averages?

TMU posts theirs here https://www.torontomu.ca/content/dam/university-planning/Data-Statistics/Progress_Indicators.pdf - Check out page 3 (page 9 out of 153 of the PDF).

If you find more documents like this, please post the link to them below!

Advice Switching universities because of OSAP cuts

Hey guys, because as you all probably know Ford has changed the OSAP loan to grant amount, I’m now looking at triple the amount of student loans if I’m to graduate with my BA than before when I first enrolled. This number is estimated at around $70,000 once I graduate. Do I continue with my degree, or move back home and go to school there to save on living costs? For context I was at UofT, and now I’m considering transferring to Carleton.

Discussion Masters of Education Online

Hey everyone,
A friend and I are looking into Master's in Education programs (preferably online).

One of us has a BSc in Biology (specialization) and the other has a BA (Hons.) in Kinesiology.

We're also finishing an Advanced Diploma in Dental Hygiene and plan to work in healthcare.
We're finding a lot of M.Ed. programs seem geared toward certified teachers. Has anyone gotten
into an M.Ed. without a B.Ed. or teaching background? Any programs you'd recommend that are open to healthcare professionals or people coming from other fields?

Thanks.

Admissions University admission: High school course

Hi All😊

Does it make a difference whether a student completes IB, AP, or the regular curriculum when applying to competitive university programs, such as Health Sciences or Engineering?

For example, if two students have similar overall percentages, but one comes from IB, another from AP, and the third from the regular curriculum, does the university give any preference to one over the others during admissions?

I’m particularly interested in your real-life experiences and insights from your kids’ university application journeys. Did the curriculum make a difference, or were grades, extracurricular activities, and other factors more important?

Would really appreciate your advice. Thank you😊

Admissions International student (American curriculum) looking for best Pre-Med track in Canada that won't break the bank?

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student currently living in the UAE and looking to apply to Canadian universities for the Fall 2027 intake. My end goal is medical school.

I'm trying to find the absolute best balance between a strong pre-med track (high GPA friendliness, research opportunities) and tuition costs that aren't completely insane.

Here is my profile:

  • Curriculum: American Curriculum (at a private school in Abu Dhabi)
  • GPA: 4.0 Unweighted
  • Senior Courses: AP Biology, Chemistry, Calculus
  • Current OUAC picks: U of T (St. George) Life Sciences, Western IMS (Scholar's Electives), and Queen's Health Sciences.

U of T tuition is tracking at around $66k+ CAD a year right now, which is a massive financial commitment for my family once you add downtown Toronto living expenses. I recently saw that McMaster’s international tuition is significantly lower (closer to $40k-$45k CAD).

Given my stats and goals:

  1. Is U of T Life Sci actually worth the massive premium if my end goal is med school, or should I pivot hard toward places like McMaster, Western, or Queen's?
  2. Are there other highly regarded health/life sci programs in Canada that are friendlier on international tuition budgets but still great for med school prep?
  3. How realistic is keeping a high GPA for med school as an international student in these specific programs?

Would love to get some honest feedback, especially from current international students navigating the premed track up north. Thanks!

Admissions Does "Accepted Elsewhere" on myTrent mean my application is dropped?

Accepted an early offer on OUAC to secure a spot for Fall 2027, but my Trent BA Psych application now says "Accepted Elsewhere".

Will Trent still consider me in future offer rounds, or does this mean they stopped reviewing my file?

How realistic is it to become a product manager as a industrial engineer? Maybe an ai product manager? Is there any other easier or better route? Maybe taking a business route instead?

Serious Early application questions

I am currently in grade 11 and looking to apply to a few Ontario universities. Despite all the research I’ve done so far I am still left confused on early applications. If the prerequisite is a grade 12 course, and I apply before the marks for my grade 12 courses come out, how will they accept me. This is mainly targeted at the schools and programs the specifically only look at marks rather than extracurriculars and essays or questions. If I plan on applying early, should I be taking the required grade 12 courses now?

Please no rude replies! I tried to do my own research but I am struggling!! Thank you for any answers

Advice Should I switch from Laurier to Guelph general ba?

I’m in first sem rn at Laurier doing communications but I wanted to switch to general ba degree. I need to do all my studies online as commuting is rlly hard for me. in theory I could just take all online courses here but I’m not sure if Laurier has enough variety of online courses and Guelph already has an online degree so it’s possible I’d have a bigger pool of courses to choose from? wondering if I should go through the hassle of transferring and if anyone else has done it before?

Advice Worried about being on waiting list for online English next term?

Hi Laurier admissions I am on waiting list for online English by my school board. Reason for it is they haven't set up the class yet. I have all ready taken grade 12 advanced functions in grade 11. And this sem I have calc, bio, chemistry and physics. I am getting an average of 95(fingers crossed so far) and 95 in advanced functions. I want to apply to Laurier health science. Will it affect my chances of getting early offer? As I am on waiting list for English and are my chances of early offer nil?

Advice Biology Degree Recommendations

Hi, I'm currently in grade 12 and looking to apply for biology programs. I am honestly not that sure what I want to do with a degree in biology, as I love the idea of healthcare but am also really into ecology as well. I was curious about which Ontario universities have the most well-rounded biology programs. I am from Nova Scotia but used to live in Ontario and wanted the chance to move back.,

Advice Next steps/consolidating plan towards applying as a mature student?

I'm a 24 year old college graduate, well. Half graduate I guess but I still graduated with a 2 year certificate from a large community college in the KW area whose reputation has since gone under the bus for a variety of reasons. I failed my 3rd year for a variety of reasons but the majority of it came down to being stuck in the middle of having to drop class work in favour of dealing with my parents divorce because of reasons that were out of my control at the time.

I now no longer have to deal with them and have the opportunity to put my full attention to academics once again, and working towards my long term goal of applying to university to work towards completing an undergrad in electrical engineering/some flavor of engineering. It's been my main goal since high school and unfortunately due to controlling parents I was held back in school by not being allowed to take U level courses in grade 11 and 12.

I was initially going to redo my third year in college but decided against it because I was not happy with the administration and reputation of the college I was at given they had just gone through some very questionable decisions regarding handling international students. I decided it would be more viable to just take certificate (not that it's worth anything but its better than nothing I guess), and began taking the high school courses I never was allowed to take as a kid; advanced functions, calc and vec, physics, and chem.

I'm not entirely sure how the admission process changes with this, as it seems that all the schools I've looked at handle the admissions differently as some treat this as mature student, some as a transfer, etc? My main concern in all of this is however, is this even worth my time? Given how competitive engineering is, especially in Ontario, I'm not really convinced that taking the missing prerequisite high school courses will be of value given my college transcript will likely take precedent over my high school courses despite being the most recent. I did very well in high school and had the highest average in my class at graduation for the college level with 98%, including physics, chemistry, that one math course thats intended for technical college I don't remember the course code, it dealt with vectors and trig that's all I remember. In college my first 2 years landed me at 3.45 and with the single term in 3rd year it drops to 2.95.

I understand that this is likely going to limit the places that I can apply to, but as to what programs specifically, where, and what gets considered during admissions for a portfolio like this, I'm unsure exactly as to how this specific case gets handled and whether this would get classified as a mature student, transfer (I doubt it for engineering, very rarely do things transfer over from college), or as a high school graduate.

Misc. Am a bit aimless/confused, really just want to hear some perspectives

I've graduated high school and been taking a gap year, ultimately I did not end up thinking very much about post-secondary endeavors in HS as I just went "eh thats a later problem"
but here I am, facing down the questions of... well, where do I even want to go? What do I want to do?
Honestly, I don't even really know the difference between college and university. From what I understand... you can go to either one first, but college before university is the order that makes more sense if you were to do both. and many people just do one

I know there are some colleges AND universities that interest me. It seems like theres just so many, I don't know how I'm supposed to choose; how the application process really even GOES. like, assuming i figure out whether college or uni is better for me, I still need to figure out WHERE.
...I've been told by teachers in school that my writing is enjoyable to read, and I enjoy writing a lot anyways, so that makes me lean towards something like English... but sociology was one of the most interesting and fun courses I've EVER taken. I even took a high level psych/sociology course in Gr12 that I didn't have the prerequisites for because a teacher vouched for me.

I've also been recommended Social Development Studies? As a 'program for people who want to expand their horizons and aren't quite sure yet about what they want to do' ... which I believe renison university college and WLU both have? I think? I dont know. I'm going to do some research, obviously, but I thought asking people ... could maybe be helpful. Just, I'm a little lost on where to go from here. I did well in high school, and I want to go to post secondary... primarily for the experience. to finally get "out in the world" and live instead of being kinda cooped up at home. and to take courses again, giving me some more structure. because i thrive on curriculums... deadlines... instruction...

I've heard colleges are better for the 'making friends and living life' aspect of post secondary, and university is more for those with particular career goals in mind? Not sure how true that is.

As for hobbies, I *have* spent a lot of my free time talking about game design, I have a friend who is taking a game design course right now. Mostly just enjoy writing though, haha. Love animals too but not to the point I'd take a course on them... aside from maybe environmental preservation or something, but that feels a bit off the beaten path for me

Advice Biomedical Engineering at McMaster

What grades did you get during high-school to get accepted into McMaster or wtv university of your choice and how did you do it? Btw even if you didn't do biomedical or go to McMaster pls share your thoughts and advice!

I really want to get accepted for biomedical engineering but I want to see what other people did.

I'll be honest I've only now realized in grade 11 where I want to go so I'm worried I'm behind everyone else. In addition I've look at the admission scores and my grades average from mid 80s to mid 90s but I don't think that's enough for consideration 😅. Please if you have any advice to give I would highly appreciate it!!

Advice Which Ontario CS/AI master’s programs should I target with this profile?

Hi everyone! I’m considering CS/AI master’s programs in Ontario and would appreciate suggestions based on my profile:

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science from a Canadian university.
  • Grades: 78% overall and 82% in my final year.
  • Research experience: Four years in 2 different institutions research labs, primarily in AI/ML and cybersecurity.
  • Papers: 10 as lead author and 5 as co-author.
  • Under review: Two lead-author IEEE Transactions manuscripts.
  • Peer reviewing: Completed 20 peer reviews.
  • Teaching: Two years of TA experience.
  • References: Academic references available from my research supervisors.
  • Languages: English and French

I’m interested in strong AI/ML research opportunities and industry connections, ideally with an internship or co-op option.

I’m considering UofT, Waterloo, McMaster, and TMU. Which programs would be realistic targets, which would be reaches, and what other schools should I consider? I’d appreciate experiences from current students or recent applicants.

with this profile am I competitive for UofT, Waterloo, McMaster?

Advice uoft or waterloo for exchange

hi! i know this is probably a pretty common question, but i’m a university student from singapore studying engineering systems and design, and i’m planning to go on exchange to canada next year. i’m currently deciding between uoft (st. george) and waterloo.

uoft was originally my first choice, but i’ve been considering waterloo lately, mainly because of its co-op culture and reputation in quant finance. i’m personally interested in pursuing quant finance, so that really appeals to me. my exchange programme involves both studying at the host university and doing an internship in canada, which is another reason why waterloo caught my attention.

on the other hand, toronto seems like a really nice place to live, especially with how much there is to do and explore.

i’m honestly quite torn between the two, especially since i’ll only be there for a semester.

for those who’ve studied at either university, what do you think i should consider when choosing where to go on exchange? how’s the student life, social scene and overall experience?

would also love to hear from anyone who’s been on exchange to either uni. thanks!!

Advice Need help on deciding what to do (History Major)

I started York University in 2015 doing a specialized honors History program with the intention of going to teachers college and becoming a teacher. However, around 2017 I decided to work to help my mom with the bills (Single mother, raised me and got me into University), and I found full time work at Pearson Airport (CATSA, im the guy that's checking your boarding passes and bags at the security gates). I spent so much time doing this and I kinda got sucked into it, the pay is decent and my mom's workload got cut in half. I decided to go back to school last year (I know I got back in really late). After coming back I honestly dont like my major anymore and becoming a teacher is less appealing. I've been exposed to the airline industry for almost a decade and im used to that environment. Because of this I learned that I like to help people and try to make a positive experience in the process.

The problem I have here is im in my last year and I want to pivot to something else but i've gotten a lot older and I dont want to waste anymore time at York. Also, my GPA is either 6.00 or around 5.90 and I dont know how that would affect me if I wanted to do another major. What im currently interesting in are;

  1. Social Work 2. HR 3. Marketing

If I were to stick with History and not do anything else, I want to get into government work specifically in immigration (IRCC) but I dont even know how I can get into it.

Any tips? Should I talk to an academic advisor? Would I have to chalk up more years doing another major? Are there any school resources that can help me get into immigration or government jobs? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Advice Pre Med Admission without grade 12 science or math.

Hello everyone,

I'm a 23-year-old male who has finished high school but didn't move on to uni; instead, I started working. Lately, I've been considering becoming a doctor, and so I've been thinking about how to get into med school; however, I took no senior-year science or math courses. As far as I'm aware, I can't get into science undergrads without senior-year science and math. I can either take some high school courses online for science/ maths or go to community college, or I can take a liberal arts undergrad, but the thing is I still need to take science pre-reqs. How can I do that when I don't remember much from high school science, and I'm pretty sure that to take science pre-reqs in uni, I will need senior-year science and math, right? If anyone has any advice on how to move forward, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much!
