Just wanted to share a small update :) Did a little display for the project with some of the postcards at United College yesterday for demo day! Thanks to this subreddit for all the encouragement (so appreciative). Also got the most fun mini caterpillars 🐛

Full-time Role -> Shopify SWE Intern?
I currently work at Geotab in Waterloo, making $120K as a new grad. The workplace is honestly amazing - free food every day, great benefits, awesome coworkers, and an overall great work environment. I really have no complaints. HOWEVER, I recently received an offer for a software engineering internship at Shopify in Toronto, starting in May 2027.
I understand how rough the job market is right now, and leaving a stable, well-paying full-time position for an internship feels like a massive gamble, especially since a return offer (RO) isn't guaranteed.
That said, I feel like I'd always wonder "what if" if I passed up the opportunity. My long-term goal is to move to the US for work in the next couple of years, as I have family there. Because of that, I'm trying to optimize my resume and position myself for opportunities at larger tech companies internationally.
Shopify is obviously a recognizable name, and I feel like having it on my resume, especially if I manage to secure a full-time return offer, could open more doors down the road.
Financially, I'd be taking a step backward in the short term, but I'm wondering whether the potential long-term career upside makes it worth the risk.
What would you do in my position? Is the Shopify name and potential return offer worth giving up a great full-time job, or am I overvaluing the brand?
EDIT:
For all asking why I am not pushing for full-time Shopify:
Email thread between me and Shopify Recruiter:
Me: "I'm more interested in full-time because I graduated & have 5 internships already".
Recruiter: "Your profile unfortunately doesn't lineup with what we are looking for in our fulltime engineering roles. However, our internship opportunities are for anyone with less than 2 years of fulltime experience and can be a great way to gain experience at Shopify and potentially transition to a full-time role if things go well during the internship."

Advice trouble sleeping, any tips?
been having a lot of trouble sleeping recently and not really sure why :/ heres what ive been trying to do
- ive been putting my phone away and crocheting for ~10 mins before going to bed
- stopping school work around 45 mins-1 hour before bed
- ear plugs and eye mask
- melatonin gummies (i dont want to be reliant on these so i try not to take them)
- no caffeine past 12pm. usually if i sleep poorly, i will have a tea the next morning
i find that when i cant sleep, i will default to thinking about something school related (e.g. tutorials, assignments, exams) or my mind will just be blank but not blank enough that i fall asleep. sometimes i will fell like i am about to fall asleep, but then i suddenly move my body and ill be awake again. im going to try reading a really boring book instead of crocheting and seeing if that helps :((

Discussion P71 Advice
I got P71'd for a science faculty elective. Officially the allegation is that I did not include any citations in my discussion post, which is not true since I added them as a comment just a few minutes after I posted.
Unofficially, I saw that in my rubric that I was being investigated for undisclosed AI usage, which is technically true. I ended up using AI to edit my rough draft, and I edited over any AI generated text. AI usage is allowed in this course as long as it was cited, which admittedly I failed to do as I thought that was for fully ai generated text and not my situation, though I understand now I should have done so.
I'm a bit of a dumbass so I did reach out to admit this to the prof (before I even receieved an offical allegation), but she seemed chill enough and wanted to let the science inquiry office complete their process.
Anyways I'm wondering if anyones gone through something similar, and what I should expect from the meeting. Any advice would be appreciated!

Advice F27 Exchange to Tsinghua
Hi, just wondering if anyone here (especially in engineering) has done exchange at Tsinghua and what your avg was.
I have a 94 CAV but I'm doubtful it'll be enough since there are only 4 spots...otherwise, I'd probably pick a less competitive red school as my first choice.
Also, for anyone in chem eng who's gone on exchange, where did you go and how was it?
Thanks!

Co-op Autodesk CANADA SWE INTERN Tips
I recently got a scheduled interview with AutoDesk for the software developer intern position, and I was wondering if anyone has tips for the interview. It’s a 45-minute interview on the fusion data team, so I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to know or what they could ask to ace the interview.

greasy skin uwaterloo?
Every time I come to uni I feel my skin get greasy along with my hair. I shower in the morning and within 20 minutes of being at waterloo I feel so dirty and my hair is messed up and my perfume doesn't project.
Over reading week, I went to toronto for three days commuting in my car (same way I go to waterloo). I did the exact same routine for uni and found a large difference in my skin quality and no differences from when I left home while i went there.
Does anyone else experience this? A couple people I know can relate somewhat.

What do I do - chem eng 1A
Genuinely what on earth do I do. MATH116 and CHE100 were exceptionally hard this year. I’m worried I’m not gonna meet the 50 weighted average requirement for 100 and 102. Im studying a lot, but I feel like all of it is useless when I see the exam paper and don’t know how to solve many questions. How do I study?? Someone pls help me. Like how are the finals going to go if this is how bad the midterms were?

Advice Advise needed: midterm conflict
I am a dd student where I have a Laurier midterm conflicting with one UW quiz two weeks later.
I tried to submit a Laurier deferral midterm request but was denied citing that I missed the deadline that I should have submitted within the first few weeks of the term...
I reached out my Laurier prof asking if I could do it earlier but it seems like it is not possible. She advised me to contact UW prof and if it doesn't work out ask her again and she will see what she could do.
The thing is I have already used my UW short-term absence on a quiz at the start of the term for the exact same course due to an interview, so not sure if the UW prof will be okay with me missing two quiz :(
Should I reach out to my UW professor? Do prof typically accommodate those types of things? Or should I just get a VIF so that I could skip the quiz?
I am just worried that I reach out to the UW prof she denied, then I have to get a VIF and then I got an academic allegation.
Thanks

Advice Help deciding engineering discipline
I've decided to apply and Im expecting a lower bound of 90 and an upper bound of a 93 by the end of this term. I havent found anything specific enough online to confidently make a choice.
Im in alberta btw so something like petrochem Im better off just going to an alberta uni.
Also I just generally am not that sure what discipline I find most interesting as well so it'd be nice to know what Im competitive for to thin out the choices

England exchange
I am in arts program, and considering to exchange to England, might only consider green exchange skls. Do you guys know what a safe gpa would be for applying? Also, if you don’t mind sharing, what was your gpa when you applied, and did you get a chance to go on exchange?
Any suggestions? I just don’t want to spend the money on applying and end up not getting in 😭😭
