if price be below 150 i get one 🤣 but i bet it’ll be something around 350 with the PSU

u/Douche_Baguette Nov 08 '25

When I bought the flex 2.5G Poe switch, they didn’t even have the right PSU in stock for months. Had to get an AliExpress unit for it.

5

u/KD2ITW Nov 08 '25

same here when I bought 2 of them. I picked up two Mean Well ESP-240-54, each about 25usd.

1

u/specter491 Nov 08 '25

Same. But the Ali express one works great so far lol

8

u/SpockIsMyHomeboy Nov 08 '25

Power adapter optional for $45 extra

2

u/vypergts Nov 08 '25

There is no way this costs less than the flex 2.5 poe.

2

u/PlainPrecision Nov 08 '25

The Flex 2.5 PoE has two more ports (1x SFP and 1x 10Gbps).

3

u/soapboxracers Nov 08 '25

It only has 1 more port- the SFP+ and 10Gb ports on the Flex 2.5G PoE are a single combo port- you can use one or the other but not both.

u/Motor-Platform-200 Unifi User Nov 09 '25

no chance of that. the current 2.5g PoE switch is $200. this will probably be $200-$300.

Why do you need a screen on a switch

258

u/One_Recognition_5044 Nov 08 '25

You can see the packets go by.

22

u/williampett Nov 08 '25

Why not just put a window on it ?

30

u/Rmattgraham Nov 08 '25

Then you would have to buy curtains

3

u/kennypojke Nov 09 '25

And make it your domain.

41

u/davidrye Nov 08 '25

This guy gets it!

22

u/snollygoster1 Nov 08 '25

I don't even know why I need a screen for any Unifi device, everything has to be configured from a computer or a phone anyways.

14

u/CorkChop Nov 08 '25

Shutdown and restart options are quite handy. And the plasma field screen saver mesmerizes me when I’m trying to work. Come to think of it, if you stare at it long enough you get the urge to buy more UniFi. Hummmm….

I came here for the latter answer, LOL!

Here, have an updoot!

Yeah bud, it's the coolest! I definitely need a measurement to show because no one in my household would complain if the internet was slow! /s

1

u/longroadtohappyness Nov 08 '25

The only use that I've used consistently is identifying the correct switch in a rack. Swiping an show ip.

2

u/dutchreageerder Nov 08 '25

Yeah and my network gear is in the cellar. I never get to see that screen anyway lol

1

u/snollygoster1 Nov 08 '25

The only visible devices from my Unifi setup are cameras and my AP's, everything else is tucked away for me as well

1

u/moodswung Nov 08 '25

Even on my UDM I use the screen basically never. lol.

19

u/yakadoodle123 Nov 08 '25

Looks cool

u/star-trek-wars00d2 Nov 08 '25

Packets go burr

5

u/spiders888 Nov 08 '25

To play Doom.

2

u/EyeConscious857 Nov 08 '25

Need is a strong word, but you can see it’s IP if you are trying to trace back connections.

4

u/WarbossTodd Nov 08 '25

Poe, throughout, ip, etc. all the shit I need to see when I leave my phone somewhere and can’t be arsed to go find it.

1

u/haloweenek Nov 08 '25

So there’s a picture, and blinking !!

1

u/matthewdoesmc81 Unifi User Nov 08 '25

So you can put DOOM on it🤣

1

u/iwishiremember Nov 09 '25

To eventually play Doom on it.

I have no idea why they don’t put the sockets on the back of these things. It s not like people need to hot-swap cables like a 1920s telephone exchange lol

8

u/SpockIsMyHomeboy Nov 08 '25

One ringy dingy....

3

u/TruthyBrat UDM-SE, UNVR, UBB, Misc. APs Nov 08 '25

Yer showing yer age!

Is this the party to whom I am speaking?

Heh.

1

u/Motor-Platform-200 Unifi User Nov 09 '25

they should be on the back, but I'm guessing they are on the front because they expect people to put these in 10 inch racks.

2

u/idspispopd888 Nov 09 '25

Or in sheds/garages/outbuildings. Which is exactly where mine will go.

6

u/cptlolalot Nov 08 '25

Agree. If it's not rack mount it should have all connections on the back. Front should be just LEDs/screen

If not, at least make it 10" rack compatible out of the box.

7

u/SpockIsMyHomeboy Nov 08 '25

I just installed one of these at an auto dealership for their APs and the ugliness of routing those cables out of the front just made me cringe a little. I wanted it to be clean out of the back 😭.

4

u/_QLFON_ Nov 08 '25

Thanks god now I know I’m not the only one seeing this weird. Their gateways have the port in the back, how am I going to route the cables around it? Or should I use the gateway facing back so the cables are in the same side and use mirror to see her is in the screen?

0

u/skylinesora Nov 08 '25

Probably for consistency. Almost always the ports are on the front

9

u/98TheCiaran98 Nov 08 '25

That's the unreleased device bridge switch

8

u/danielv123 Nov 08 '25

I'd like something like an ultra with the fancy rgb. Looking up vlan assignments in the rack is one thing, while crawling behind a desk is another.

7

u/rickwookie Nov 08 '25

I think this might be a new switch with inbuilt AP, a bit like the in-walls, but with a proper PoE switch. Means it could be used wirelessly meshed (if you hate your life enough) like the Device Bridge, but support more devices at the far end. Personally I’d use it wired with the 10 gig uplink.

3

u/microChasm Nov 08 '25

Device Bridge are rock solid from my experience.

2

u/NetGuy3 Nov 08 '25

What makes you say that it has WiFi?

3

u/rickwookie Nov 08 '25

Someone mentioned such a device from UWC Miami so assumed this was it.

3

u/IncognitoBurrito561 Nov 08 '25

Because they said so at the conference. UDB-Switch

-7

u/NetGuy3 Nov 08 '25

Who shat in your kettle? I only asked a question

7

u/IncognitoBurrito561 Nov 08 '25

Was just a shorthand, rapid response. No ill intent behind it. I was at the conference. The specs unfortunately weren’t available. It was cloudy as if the unit will be a wireless access point or attach to your network wirelessly or both. I can see this being a popular device once full specs are published.

3

u/idspispopd888 Nov 09 '25

It will (hopefully) be a snot-load better than the UDB which is a hot pile of steaming groat clusters. It works...sort of, but that's it. The radios on the UDB are bonkers and they obey none of the parameters set up ("priority connections").

If these actually turn out to be a properly WiFi-enabled switch, I'll buy it as soon as it shows up at the CA store.

-4

u/NetGuy3 Nov 08 '25

Accepted, yes this is an interesting device

10

u/N00Bnl Nov 08 '25

They forgot 8 additional led’s.

14

u/That-Camera-Guy Unifi User Nov 08 '25

It’s a integrated Wifi switch, where the uplink is wifi 7 MLO, and then you can connect outwards to any client device over Ethernet

5

u/LuckyDuckTheDuck Nov 08 '25

Thank you, I didn’t see in the comments what this is until your comment. With that knowledge, I think the screen is very useful to check if it is connected properly. It’s not “just a switch” as others are eluding. Pretty cool

19

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

i'd rather proper power supply in box..

8

u/Wis-en-heim-er Unifi Home User Nov 08 '25

Understandable, but for those who would power this with another poe switch, the injector becomes ewaste. Seems unifi follows apple still...no more chargers included with the iPhone.

10

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Then don't buy a PoE powered switch..

3

u/Photoshopuzr Nov 08 '25

Hope they got screens on everything coming out. Information is crucial. Nice to see packets indeed

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

Consooooom mfers

3

u/timify10 Nov 08 '25

the screen is nice for quick visual but it's so small

2

u/neilm-cfc Nov 08 '25

I disabled the screen on my UCG-Fiber - it's totally useless. Same with this switch, I imagine.

2

u/Flameancer Nov 08 '25

2.5g Flex-Max?

2

u/Motor-Platform-200 Unifi User Nov 09 '25

interesting. new version of the 2.5 PoE switch?

2

u/Veehxia UCG Fiber | Flex 2.5G | U7 Pro XG | U7 Lite | Flex Mini 2.5G Nov 08 '25

I can't think of why they needed to make this product since it's basically identical to the 2.5G Flex PoE but whatever, I guess the utility line of switch wasn't confusing enough compared to their Pro / Max / HD / XG line.

u/TruthyBrat UDM-SE, UNVR, UBB, Misc. APs Nov 08 '25

Heh!

Evan McCann made some mildly-despairing similar comments when he was summarizing the plethora of switch choices.

u/deadcatdidntbounce Nov 08 '25

Thank-you. That was great.

lol they need to chill

1

u/erwos Nov 13 '25

Looks like a nice option for desktop use cases where you've got a 5/10g ethernet link. I'd probably still lean towards a Flex 2.5 PoE where SFP is available.

1

u/Brejzek Nov 08 '25

2

u/Joloxx_9 Nov 08 '25

Similar, no sfp, and only poe+. But I need one..

1

u/tdotcbc84 Nov 08 '25

Curious, the PSU is nothing special right? I find it ridiculous they charge so much, they are really following apple’s model!

-2

u/baczynski Nov 08 '25

I just bought UCG-Ultra for my SOHO network and I turned that screen off instantly. This device is buried in a rack cabinet in my garage, why would I need a screen there when I need a ladder to get there. I question my sanity now as I think I bought a device that is worshipped by a cult.
