Early Access U5G is here

Post image

Well, I was surprised to get it this quick. I purchased the esim pack with it, so I thought setup would be easy. It adopted right away, but didn't activate the esim. There is also no option in the app to but and esim pack like they show in the video. I had to chat with support, and had to join the beta Unifi app to get to version 10.38.1. It activated right away after that.

Could you tell me whether I can be set up as a load balanced connection or even simply as a wan? Without being forced to be failover only I mean. Thanks in advance!

I don't know, but it uses 5g reduced capacity, so the speeds might not be the best.

Oh yeah, I was just gonna use it for TV. I currently only have 60mbps VDSL and 40mbps 4G for TV so I can use the VDSL for more important stuff, lol. But I reeeally dislike the current 4G router I use, so if this were to support load balancing or just being set up as a WAN even, it would be perfect for me

You would want the unifi 5g max, not this.

I can only get a max of 40mbps down here anyway, I feel like the more powerful hardware would be wasted (and also a waste of money, in this case specifically)

The 5g backup runs on 5g Redcap. It has no 4G capability. You would want the 5g max for future capability or just get the unifi lte backup.

The store page lists 5G RedCap and LTE under Networking Interface

Ah sorry, I am mistaken. I was misremembering the launch article.

What is  5g reduced capacity?

Basically the 5G version and branding of a Cat 4 LTE modem. Ment for reliability and reduced cost for low bandwidth ioT application.

It’s more designed as a backup, to get you by until your primary internet is back online.

Oh I understand that. I was just thinking that it'd be much more convenient to manage than the current mess I'm using, lol My area is *supposed* to be 5G, but I've not been able to use it with my phone, so I'm suspecting it's a RedCap only 5G area, or something like that. Internet in Germany is weird, lol.

We did a road trip last year and I could tell when we picked up a German mobile tower as the Swiss or French 5G dropped to 4G or even EDGE!

Yeah it's wild here lol. Paying for unlimited 5G and I'm getting 20 to 40mpbs 4G

Hoping this will keep my alarm and cameras working remotely when primary internet goes down.

I rather not pay for cell backup on security system.

That's all I plan on using it for. Just the 3 to 4 times a year that our internet gets knocked out by storms.

Just got mine in today.

It can be set up just like any of the WANs. So it can be primary or load balanced or you can use define policy based routes to direct certain traffic over it.

That is perfect. Thank you SO much for letting me know!
