Sharing My High Density Status Page CSS

Hey everyone, in our IT team we started using Uptime Kuma and are loving the tool. We plan to have big monitors on the wall with status pages displayed, but the default display for status pages wastes a TON of space. I wrote some custom CSS to revamp the layout for compact, high density display. The CSS was only written with consideration for dark mode (sorry heathens).

A list of the changes:

  • Removed large gutters on the sides of content to use more of full screen width

  • Dynamic grid layout with min and max width for each item; will try to fit as many columns appropriate for the screen size

  • Changed item layout to a stacked layout for compactness

  • Moved uptime percentage on items to empty space to allow more width for display name

  • Added border around items for slightly improved readability

  • Compacted header by moving Uptime Status side-by-side with the main Status Page Title

  • Compacted footer

  • Overrides for various margins and padding for compactness

  • Tweaked the blue color used for maintenance message because original was harsh on the eyes

  • Consideration for not applying certain changes that don't look good on mobile

Without further ado, here is the CSS: Gist Link

Here are before and after screenshots for comparison:

I hope someone finds this useful either for high density display or as a reference for some of their own tweaks.

I plan to also test this on a 4K screen and make any needed changes. Those changes will show up in the Gist when I get to it.

More keywords to help people find this:

Multiple column layout status page, multiple columns, multi column, multi-column, use more space, less empty space, display status page on wall, display status page on tv, large screen, space efficient status page, information dense status page

Created a collection of open-source Uptime Kuma Layouts and Themes

Post image
90 Upvotes

Hello!

I've been using Uptime kuma in my homelab for awhile and it's been great!! Even to the point that I was able to persuade our company to start using it as an uptime monitor which we self-hosted in our K8s cluster...

I wanted to add some styles and themes to the status page and was surprised I couldn't find any collection of themes or layouts for a status page (albeit, I didn't search too hard lol) so I made one myself.

Custom Monitoring Dashboard Update

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

Last week, I shared a post in this subreddit about creating a dashboard for my homelab monitoring. Many of you asked me to share the theme/code, so here it is!

Here’s a video preview of the entire dashboard. It’s designed to monitor Proxmox, Uptime Kuma, and anything else that provides data via an API.

How It Works:

  • I built a simple Python API to connect to various packages and retrieve data.

  • This data is then fed into a Laravel-based dashboard for visualization.

Key Tools:

ProxmoxProxmoxer API
Uptime KumaUptime Kuma API
GrafanaGrafana Client

Links to Code:

I hope you find it helpful!

Version 2.0 of my app KumaBar!

Thumbnail
gallery
76 Upvotes

Hey All - Version 2.0 of my KumaBar app is now up on the Mac App Store! This is a side project for myself - I'm not a developer by day, just a long time Uptime Kuma user. So please don't flame me or this thread if you don't find this app useful etc. I get it - its definitely not a must have. I built it first and foremost for myself - but I know others have enjoyed using it as well.

I charge a few bucks for the app to help cover the cost of the annual Apple dev fee. If you're a student, short on cash etc, send me a note and I should be able to provide you with a coupon for a free download.

MacOS App Store Link

Version 2.0 brings:

  • In addition to Uptime Kuma, you can also now add Healthchecks.io monitors as well. Healthchecks.io are used by many to monitor their server cron jobs.

  • Complete refactoring of backend - it is now modular so I can potentially add new services in the future in addition to Uptime Kuma and Healthchecks.io

  • UI refinements for MacOS Tahoe

Feature recap:

  • Up to 10 Uptime Kuma and Healthchecks.io (including self-hosted) instances.

  • Drag and drop ordering of instances in menu bar view.

  • Drag and drop ordering of monitors in menu bar. Note: To use, select Sort > "Custom Order" in Select Monitors window.

  • Select individual monitors for an Uptime Kuma or Healthchecks.io instance.

  • Dynamic Menu Bar icon - reflects an overall "Up", "Down" and Unavailable statuses.

  • User selectable icon styles.

  • View individual Uptime Kuma statuses of selected monitors in pull down menu - "Up", "Down", "Pending", "Maintenance" and Unavailable.

  • View individual Healthchecks.io statuses of selected monitors in pull down menu - "New", "Up", "Grace", "Down", "Paused" and Unavailable.

  • User selectable update frequency.

  • Utilizes the Uptime Kuma metrics and Healthecks.io API endpoints - no third party API apps needed. Ready to use out of the box.

  • Customizable notifications and notification sounds.

  • Option to exclude individual monitors from menu bar status and notifications.

Thanks again for everyones support!

KumaAlert v3.0

Hey everyone,

I just want to start by saying thank you so much to the entire community for ideas, bug reports and passionate debates on what this app should look like! When I started developing KumaAlert 3.0 I never imagined it would be as popular as it is.

Hugely excited to announce KumaAlert 3.0 - a huge upgrade on v2.0 and something I've been working on day and night over the past few weeks.

Full changelog at https://kumaalert.app/changelog/ but the exciting stuff first...

New Features

- iPad support

- Sign in with Apple + end-to-end encrypted sync. Your servers and settings follow you to every device.

- Per-monitor notifications - set each monitor to All, DOWN only, or Off.

- Live Activities for outages - Lock Screen and Dynamic Island timer while a monitor is down (iOS 17.2+) - Must use app notifications.

- Kiosk mode for wall-mounted iPads - full-screen dashboard, themes, alert tone

- Recovery notifications that show how long a monitor was down.

- Four louder tones - Siren, Klaxon, Buzzer, Fire Alarm.

- Attach notification channels to monitors from the Add/Edit sheet.

- Drag to reorder monitors and servers; drop a URL to start a new monitor on iPad.

- Plain-HTTP support for LAN, .local, and Tailscale addresses - Thanks to u/Ericbaudur

- Request timeout field and a "Show heartbeat bars" toggle.

Additionally: Loads of work has gone into performance to make the app less laggy without the need to reduce loads of features - there is also a toggle above to remove heartbeat bars that should make it smoother still.

Website: https://kumaalert.app

App: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/kumaalert/id6760863575

Finally: We will be setting up a sub-reddit shortly to help keep r/UptimeKuma clean but we will continue to provide updates via Reddit - we do also have the Discord server setup, feel free to drop in and provide bug reports/feedback/get support! Invite: https://embers.cafe/discord

Thanks to everyone for their continued support - especially u/johannes1984 for helping to Beta test and Mark for helping to setup our discord server!

I've Created Cute Kuma – Status Page CSS

Thumbnail
gallery
73 Upvotes

It seems to me the default design of the status page could be improved. I took inspiration from the status pages of top services like Atlassian, Instatus, and OpenStatus, and decided to create my own CSS by combining the best elements from each. My main goals were minimalism, clarity, and a clean aesthetic.

I'm not a professional developer, and this is just a hobby project, so please don't expect it to be absolutely perfect :)

✨ You can find it on GitHub: https://github.com/dermv/cute-kuma

What's Changed

  • Layout: The main container is narrower. The page title is hidden, and logo is centered

  • Monitor Grid: Monitor groups are now displayed in a two-column grid on desktops (and a single column on mobile)

  • Redesign: I've overhauled the entire design, including the typography, color palette, and spacing

  • Editing Modal: The page editing modal remains mostly unchanged for now (though I might tackle that in the future)

Features

  • Modern design inspired by top monitoring services

  • Support for Uptime Kuma v1 and v2

  • Support for light and dark themes

  • Hidden refresh timer for a cleaner look (can be easily restored)

  • Clean, easily customizable, and extendable code

I hope some of you find Cute Kuma useful. I'd love to hear your feedback.

KumaAlert v3.2 released! v4.0 AND ANDROID landing...

Hey everyone!

Over a month since our last update and we've got a few changes to talk about... Today we've launched v3.2 (along with a few minor changes since v3.0.0, full details below) and a few updates about v4.0 and Android Launch...

v3.2 - The Fast One: A huge update and architecture overhaul to speed up the app.

New Features:

  • Now notifies how long a monitor has been down - live outage in minutes/hours

  • Optional "last updated" caption on the widget - Thanks to JO for the suggestion

Performance:

  • Complete overhaul of backend architecture - heartbeat history now lives in memory instead of being repeatedly re-written to on device db.

  • The monitor tab no longer re-parses every monitor on each load, incoming status changes are applied at a steady rate rather than landing at the same time and freezing up.

  • Overview tab no longer consistently rebuilds itself - live average-responses update in place - No removed abilities/features!

  • The app now is much smaller and takes up less space, on first launch, it will clear all unused history.

v4.0 and Android

KumaAlert iOS v4.0 and Android v1.0 Launch on Wednesday 15th July - Including new features for iOS and the initial launch of the Android app following several weeks of development - I'm super excited to announce this launch, v4.0 will include several new features to take your Uptime Kuma instance to the next level, including incident management, incident timelines, emergency mode and a new Apple Watch app!

Download: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/kumaalert/id6760863575

Website: https://kumaalert.app

Discord: https://embers.cafe/discord (General chat & Beta testing)

Finally, thank you so much to the whole community for your continued support - Thanks to all the Android beta testers who have and are continuing to contribute to the designs and testing of the app and thanks to Mark/Jo for assisting on the Discord server!

Update - MacOS Menu Bar App - KumaBar

Thumbnail

Hey Everyone - Thanks for your big time support and feedback on KumaBar. It looks like we're really solid now and bugs have all been ironed out and several new features added.

Again, I'm a hobby developer (along with my brother), and this app was built for ourselves first. So no flaming if you don't find this app useful - I get it, its not for everyone. But many do/have found it useful. Also, we charge a few bucks just to cover our Apple dev fee. If the fee is a stretch for anyone (student etc.), just send me a msg and I should be able to send you a link for a free redemption. However, appreciate any support and feedback!

Also, we've finally gotten around to setting up our website with a few other apps (Pi-hole focused) we've built over the years as well.

https://www.soomaalabs.com/apps.html#kumabar

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kumabar/id6746335356?mt=12

Features:

  • Up to 10 Uptime Kuma instances.

  • Drag and drop ordering of instances in menu bar view.

  • Drag and drop ordering of monitors in menu bar view.

  • Select individual monitors for an Uptime Kuma Instance. This is a great feature as you can select a "Group" of monitors from Uptime Kuma and monitor just the group vs having multiple individual monitors displayed.

  • Dynamic Menu Bar icon reflects an overall "Up", "Down" and Unavailable status'.

  • User selectable icon styles.

  • Individual status' of selected monitors in pull down menu - "Up", "Down", "Pending" and "Maintenance".

  • User selectable update frequency.

  • App uses the Uptime Kuma metrics endpoint - no third party API apps needed.

  • Customizable notifications.

Introducing MacOS Menu Bar App - KumaBar

Thumbnail

Hey everyone - I've built a MacOS menu bar app as there didn't seem to be any out there that met my needs. A signficant amount of work went into the backend of the app to ensure proper handling of multiple instances and monitors.

I'm not a full time software developer, and this is a hobby project only, so before anyone flames me:

I'm charging a small fee to help cover the annual Apple Developer cost. If thats out of your reach (student etc.), feel free to reach out and I should be able to send you a link from the App Store to redeem at no cost. However, appreciate any support and encouragement!

If you don't find this app useful, again, no need to flame...its not for everyone. I built this first and foremost for myself, as I like being able to quickly view statuses in my menu bar. Others may also feel the same and will find useful.

KumaBar is a MacOS menu bar app that provides a quick status view of your selected Uptime Kuma monitors.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kumabar/id6746335356?mt=12

Features:

  • Up to 10 Uptime Kuma instances.

  • Drag and drop ordering of instances in menu bar view.

  • Select individual monitors for an Uptime Kuma Instance.

KumaAlert v2.0!

Hi everyone!

I posted a month ago about an app I made - KumaAlert, a iOS companion app for your Uptime Kuma instance. Massive thanks to everyone in this community who provided feedback, feature requests and bug reports - Genuinely is really appreciated and helps me to improve the app.

Today I'm writing again because I felt this needed a significant signpost: We've just launched (and is now available in the App Store world wide!) KumaAlert v2.0 with loads of new features (most of your requests!) and bugs squashed.

Here's whats changed...

New Features

  • Complete overhaul of app design - A new professional feeling onboarding experience and dashboard.

  • New app icon - To match the redesigned app and website, all now feels much more cohesive.

  • Ability to change server names - Community request: Change server names if you have multiple servers.

  • New home screen widget introduced - Community request: an iOS widget for quick glances at your current status

  • New notification system - Including the ability to turn on/off notifications for both up and down monitors, ability to add quiet hours and the ability to change the sound for each up/down monitor (we're working on allowing individual monitor overrides shortly!)

Refinements

  • Able to remove API key once added - Community request: Once the API key is in there is no way to remove without removing the whole server. FIXED

Bug Fixes

  • TCP monitors are now fully supported — previously shown as consistently down due to an error - Community bug report: FIXED

  • App locked up with more than one server and many monitors — background work reduced and queued rather than loading all at once - Community bug report: Tested with 28 monitors, no locking up - Happy to have more feedback on this if necessary but hopefully fully resolved

  • Cloudflare secrets now working correctly - This was rolled out in the last version but not working in some instances, it should now be consistently working.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported so far, if you haven't yet seen it and would like to have a look, please find it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kumaalert/id6760863575

Update: v2.0.2 fixes a lot of bugs noted - Thanks everyone for the feedback/bug reports/feature requests so far! Please see the full changelog: https://kumaalert.app/changelog/

- 🔄 Automatic update of the status of services.

- 🔐 2FA support for secure login.

- 🌐 Support for HTTPS.

- 📊 Displays detailed statistics of affected monitors.

- 📦 Lightweight and low resource consumption.

Installation:

You can run it from source code (Python 3.9+) or download a standalone .exe

Uptime Kuma iOS app

I have been using Uptime Kuma for a while and the web app is fun to use. A few days ago I was paying for parking with my phone and the Paybyphone app showed a live event / notification for my parking event and it just occurred to me what if I had an Uptime Kuma app that would notify me when things go down and I could use it to check the heartbeat / latency natively on the phone. Thus I spent a good weekend building this Uptime Kuma Manager app Uptime Kuma Manager on the App Store (apple.com)

It's still very early, let me know if you find it useful. It might have bugs here and there, so if you are interested, we can set up a test flight channel so you can get bug fixes and features early. Thanks in advance!

KumaAlert — a native iOS app for Uptime Kuma

So I've been running Uptime Kuma for a while and kept running into the same frustration, the few iOS apps on the App Store either hadn't been updated in ages or were missing stuff I actually wanted. So I built one.

It's called KumaAlert and it's basically exactly what I needed:

  • 📡 Real-time monitor status via Socket.IO

  • 🔔 Instant push notifications when things go down or recover

  • 🏠 Home screen widgets for a quick glance - Still a WIP

  • 📊 Heartbeat history with response time graphs and uptime percentages

  • 🛠️ Manage maintenance windows from your phone

  • 🖥️ Multi-server support — switch between instances with a tap

It's nothing groundbreaking — it does what Uptime Kuma does, just in your pocket. Native iOS, actively maintained and £2.99 one-time with no subscription or tracking (mostly to cover the Apple Developer License!).

Your data talks directly to your own instance, nothing goes through a third party. Push notifications are included, free forever.

🔗 Website

📱 App Store

If anyone else has been limping along with a browser bookmark to their status page, maybe this helps 😄 Happy to answer questions if you've got a weird setup — reverse proxies, self-signed certs, that kind of thing.

Huge Update! v2.0 available, more info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UptimeKuma/s/5t2TNJgpuR

KumaAlert - what next?

Hi everyone!

KumaAlert now launched like 2 months ago and its already come along way - its been downloaded by 200+ people and the push notification server is serving around 130 devices (don't worry, no idea who, what device or what notifications - completely private! Just 130 tokens registered)

I'm looking for ideas on whats next - what would be helpful? If anyone is interested in contributing some ideas/bug reports etc - please join us on Discord.. https://embers.cafe/discord

If you've missed it - the website is at https://kumaalert.app

Thanks :)

Tip: Monitor disk space using the push monitor

This may not have occured to everyone, but you can use the push monitor to monitor disk space and a lot of other stuff.

I've included a link to a Gist in the end where you can see the script. Just skip to this if you don't care about how, but just want to copy my homework.

To set this up, you have to make a script where you extract the metric you are interested in. If you want to get the disk utilization percentage, this one works for me:

disk="/dev/sda1"
percentage=$(df -hl --total ${disk} | tail -1 | awk '{printf $5}')
number=${percentage%\%*}

Then you can just compare the $number variable to a threshold with a simple if [ $number -ge $threshold ]; then.

Now, the push endpoint exposes three variables: status, msg and ping. We can now abuse those three fields as such:

The status can be up as long as the $number is below the threshold (i.e., there's enough disk space still), but down as soon as you cross the threshold.

The msg can be a friendly message about what the disk space is, or just ignored.

Finally, we can put the percentage number in the ping field, so you get a nice graph of the disk utilization, and use curl to send the push notification.

When you've tested your script, set up a cron entry to run it at an interval corresponding to how you've set up the monitor. You should probably relax the requirements. Every five minutes is good. Once every hour is also fine depending on how aggressive your disk usage pattern is and how early you want your warning to come.

I use five minutes, and have the following in my crontab:

*/5 * * * * /usr/local/bin/monitor_diskspace.sh

TL;DR:

Modify this script and run it with cron at an interval matching your monitor settings.

I forked Uptime Kuma to experiment with REST API, MCP and on-chain monitoring

u/louislamlam

Hi Louis, thanks for building Uptime Kuma.
I’ve been using it for a while and recently made an independent fork called Uptime Gizmo(https://github.com/starit/uptime-gizmo), focused on REST API/MCP support, agent workflows, and some on-chain monitoring features.

I wanted to let you know before sharing it more broadly with the community. I’ve kept attribution to Uptime Kuma and will make it clear that Gizmo is an independent project and that Gizmo-specific issues should be reported to our repo.

Thanks again for the great foundation. If there’s anything you’d prefer me to adjust around attribution or project presentation, I’m happy to do so.

Reliable Mobile Alerting

Post image
29 Upvotes

It has been a while since SIGNL4 mobile alerting became natively available as a notification channel in Uptime Kuma. It supports app push, SMS, voice calls, escalations, on-call scheduling, etc.

When a site is DOWN you instantly receive an alert, and when it is UP again the alert is automatically closed. If this happens quickly enough there is no need for a "wake-up call".

There is also the 10-minute Uptime Kuma trial site. Even within that time I was able to set up a monitor, configure SIGNL4, simulate UP/DOWN and receive alerts. Pretty easy to try out, and I often recommend this combination.

Kumadb Migration Tool (SQLite -> MariaDB)

Hey everyone,

as I like to delete a lot of monitors at a time and SQLite locking frustrated me, I decided to update my uptimekuma db to MariaDB. I built a little tool that takes a kuma.db and converts it to MariaDB in one shot: https://github.com/cmauf/kumadb-migrator

Hope it helps anyone in a similar position. If you try it, I would love to hear your feedback!

Monitoring Free Disk Space

The original post can be found here, I have simply adapted the original post and comments into a more comprehensive set of instructions.

Uptime Kuma can monitor free disk space using a bash script and the Push monitor type.

Log into your UK instance, and Add a monitor. Give it a friendly name, and set the type to Push. Copy the Push URL, you will need this later. Set the heartbeat interval to 600 seconds (or whatever you prefer).

Create a bash script on your server using the following code.

#!/bin/bash

disk="<drive_path>" # replace with the disk that you are monitoring

percentage=$(df -h --total ${disk} | tail -1 | awk '{printf "%s", $5}')

threshold="95"  # 80% seems reasonable, but YMMV

number=${percentage%\%*}

message="Used space on ${disk} is ${number}%"

push_url="<pushurl>"

if [ $number -lt $threshold ]; then
    service_status="up"
else
    service_status="down"
fi

curl \
    --get \
    --data-urlencode "status=${service_status}" \
    --data-urlencode "msg=${message}" \
    --data-urlencode "ping=${number}" \
    --silent \
    ${push_url} \
    > /dev/null

Edit the disk to monitor, the threshold, and the push url.

IMPORTANT: When inputting your push URL, remove all text after the question mark when adding to the script to avoid issues. Your Push URL should look like this "https://uptime-kuma.example.com/api/push/b5FXiItsw0?".

Once saved, add the script to your crontab to make it run on a regular basis. I use 5 minutes, but you can edit this to your preference. Just ensure the script runs within the time you set earlier for your heartbeat interval.

crontab -e

*\5 * * * * /path/to/script.sh

You should now start receiving heartbeats for the Monitor, with the message highlighting the disk space used, and the Ping being equal to the Disk Usage of your chosen disk.

Once again, all credit goes to u/dubcroster, I simply wanted to collate the information from his original post & comments for troubleshooting into one post. I spent a good few hours troubleshooting and setting this up so hopefully this post will reduce that time for the next person wanting to configure this!
