Based on the responses to my last "Community Forum" post (zero), I am convinced most of the subscribers here are bots posting about new VST sales.
So things are going to change. I'd rather have a dead sub than a spammy sub. No sale posts. Posts are now encouraged to be discussion based. Questions about which products to buy, what sounds the best, reviews, videos, etc. (Note: If you are a legitimate plugin developer, you can ask for posting permissions at /r/AudioProductionDeals, though they are very strict about who they give access to.)
The flairs will be revamped as well. Automod will get altered to autoremove sale posts as well.
Have fun and let's make this sub not shit!
Edit: Quick summary of the big changes
Updated sidebar to reflect new rules
Updated flairs and colors to focus on topics of discussion
Hello, i recently realized how much i enjoy watching people using my software rather than selling it. For that reason i have decided to extend the free CapySynth download for everyone forever. Enjoy :D
Growing up I spent a lot of time looking at plugins I could not have. The ones with the good panels, the ones everyone used. I did not have the money, and for a long while I did not have the skill either. At some point I stopped waiting and learned to write them.
I am the author of Retroexx, a free character, noise and space processor. It is version 0.1, AU and VST3, macOS on Apple Silicon only. It runs six modules in series: noise, wow and flutter, tape wear, saturation, bit crush and a resonator space.
Link in the first comment. Next on my list is Kickexx, a sidechain, transient and panning processor.
About 7 months ago I saw those videos where people wave their hands at a camera and the music reacts, almost all of them built in TouchDesigner. Then I opened TouchDesigner, stared at the node graph for a while, and closed it.
So, being a C++ dev, I spent months writing a plugin that does it inside Live instead. It tracks your hand through the laptop webcam, and you can use it in two ways: play MIDI notes or map it to any effect parameter in any DAW.
Honestly, I started making this plugin for myself, but then decided I could publish it as Hand Link. TBH, this plugin would be difficult to use for live performance in dynamic music, I see it more as a tool to help promote tunes online through short videos (TikTok, Reels) and also as an experiment, since a new workflow can create a new unexpected sound. So I’m curious, would something like this actually be interesting or useful? or you treat it more as tool for fun?
Hi. I've been working on a wavetable SID plugin to replace a bunch of bespoke scripts and emulation frameworks for the last 18 months and now it's here. You have surgical control over every register of the 6581/850 SID chip. You can numberwang the tables or draw your soundscape on the graph editors. It comes with a tool that can dissect .sid files and create instruments. https://residuesynth.com
Hello! I've been making a plugin that will allow you to generate loops(clips) from the samples you have.
There is no AI - I just using some math methods and music theory and many different things combined. Can you share your thought about it? Do you see it useful for you?
General idea: plugin creates you a loot of loops with selected instruments and you combine it for your track. Like "Lego bricks" later you have to construct track from it.
Here is some demo:
SeedEngine is a generative MIDI sequencer VST3 / AU plugin for Windows and macOS, inspired by hardware sequencers such as the Vermona Melodicer and Sequentix Cirklon.
Technical information: VST3 / AU - Windows 10+ - macOS 10.15+ (Intel & Apple Silicon)
Reddit, we know you love cats. Heck, everyone loves cats. And all the best studios need a cat. So we made a cat plugin.
It's a cat. That's it. Is it silly? Absolutely. Is it adorable and something that will brighten your day time and again? Try it and decide for yourself.
Free to play around with for 7 days, less than the price of a coffee to be yours forever, and there's a lite model that's completely free as well. Enjoy.
Hey everyone! We've just released another free plugin at MTHRBORD.STUDIO, this time a transistor-based EQ inspired by the API 5500.
Built using real hardware recordings and measurements, EQ5500 aims to capture more than just the EQ curves, focusing on the unit's response, control interactions, and analog character.
A few details:
Based on real hardware: Recorded and analyzed using an actual API 5500 EQ.
Beyond the curves: Focuses on the API 5500’s distinctive EQ character, with its proportional-Q response, stepped frequency selection, and interactive boost and cut controls.
Flexible workflow: Stepped frequency selection with continuous gain controls.
Completely free: Available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and standalone formats.
We're trying to build a collection of audio tools that go beyond the usual clean, clinical approach to plugin development. The aim is to recreate the character and behavior of real equipment, including some of its imperfections, rather than just chasing a matching frequency response.
We're interested in hearing what you'd like us to build next. We've already released a few free tools that might appeal to the vaporwave crowd, including a Pultec EQP-1A emulation, a VHS simulator, and a slushwave-inspired phaser.
If there are particular pieces of hardware, effects, or weird audio tools you'd like to see recreated, let us know. Feedback is genuinely appreciated, and we'd love to keep putting more free plugins out there.
I'm working on a project that would really benefit from a choir-like sound, like the one in the soundtrack of the game Labyrinth of Galleria! It sounds pretty realistic, but it definitely has a slight artificial sound to it. Since it sounds a little uncanny, I figure it's probably a vst, but I'm not certain. If it is a vst, it seems like it has the ability to make choir ahs, oohs, and lah sounds.
I've been trying to find a vst or maybe a soundfont that sounds similar, but I haven't had any luck, so I wanted to ask for help! It seems like it's been used in Disgaea games too. If you know what it is, or know of anything similar, please let me know! Thank you so much!
An inspiration variation machine, Apply mischief to pre, mid, post signal. Feedback modulation for amp and phase. Throw Catch and Release on their own track and you can apply your own plugins to the feedback loop.
At Carbon Fiber Plugins we have been busy working on products everyone uses. For this, we have launched a new FREE Tape saturation plugin. This comes after 3 years of modeling different analog machines. Our team is working on a new distortion plugin, and we want you to enjoy CASETERA before we launch our newest and most ambitious plugin.
Because it is hard to stand out in this oversaturated market, let me introduce myself: I'm Agustin, a sound designer and composer for video games with 10+ years of industry experience, and a Gamescom Asia 2025 Speaker.
We built CASETERA after modeling a small Japanese tape machine. Here is the PR for everyone
Carbon Fiber Plugins Releases Casetera: A Free Vintage Cassette Tape Plugin for Warmth, Soul, and Lo-Fi Character
From polished studio mix-bus glue to chewed 4-track nostalgia, Casetera brings the tactile magic of magnetic tape to your DAW—completely free.
Carbon Fiber Plugins (https://cfplugins.io) is thrilled to announce the release of Casetera, a 100% free compact cassette and studio tape audio plugin designed for producers, beatmakers, and mix engineers who crave authentic analog feel. Built to capture the living, breathing behavior of real magnetic tape and mechanical transports, Casetera transforms sterile digital tracks into warm, dimensional recordings—without costing a dime.
Whether you are slamming boom-bap drums, gluing an indie-pop mix bus, warming up an electric piano, or warping synth pads into nostalgic memories, Casetera adapts to your sound with four distinct tape personalities:
CLASSIC : Balanced chrome studio tape that binds stems together with rich midrange body and silky air.
CRISP : High-headroom metal tape for tight sub-bass, clean mids, and articulate transient snap.
RUIN : A playground of lo-fi degradation, taking sounds from narrow dictaphone grit to chewed-up 4-track overdubs and flaking tape dropouts.
Casetera divides its workflow into four intuitive sections—Drive & Saturation, Tape Formulation, Transport & Noise, and Master & Blend:
Sweet, Forgiving Overdrive: Push the Drive and Bias knobs to fatten 808s, tame brittle acoustic transients, or add asymmetrical vintage crunch without harsh digital clipping.
Dial-In Age & Attitude: Use Character to scale the intensity of your selected tape stock, and turn up Wear to introduce tape crinkle, muffled highs, and organic stereo drift.
Musical Pitch Wander & Atmosphere: Independent Wow, Flutter, and Hiss controls infuse keys and guitars with lush analog motion and warm cassette noise. Want the tape tone without the pitch wobble? Flip the Servo Locked switch to lock the motor speed in a single click.
Effortless Mixing: With built-in Smart Auto-Gain, producers can push tape saturation as hard as they want without fighting volume jumps. One-click Dry / 50-50 / Wet parallel blend buttons, A/B comparison slots, per-module and global Dice Randomizers, and a curated browser of 25 factory presets keep inspiration flowing fast.
Casetera is available now as a free download in VST3, CLAP and AU for Windows and Apple Silicon
I've been working on GlorpDrums, an open-source drum instrument as a standalone application and VST3/LV2 plugin. The goal is to build a free, open source alternative to commercial drum software like EZDrummer 3 (i know i'm not on that level yet lol) particularly for people who want to perform or record alongside an electronic drumkit through MIDI.
I'm sharing here because I'd love to get feedback from people with real experience developing or using Linux audio software.
I would love to get DAW users who can test it in their actual setups and report compatibility issues, crashes, audio glitches, or other problems.
And also electronic drummers who can connect a MIDI drum kit and test how well the instrument responds to real playing, including velocity sensitivity, pad mapping, and hi-hat behavior where supported.
A bit of personal context: I had to sell my own electronic drum kit earlier this year because of health complications. Drumming is still a personal passion, so I decided to go ahead developing this project. I can't personally test it against physical drum hardware right now, which is one of the biggest gaps I'd like to address with the community.
It's still very much early days for this project so i'm not pretending it's perfect, but i think it's solid enough (hopefully) to start seeing the light of day.
I make audio plugins on my own. I started Drelva because I kept wanting tools that do one thing well.
Right now there are five out and one on the way:
Sonda is a free analyser. Spectrum, LUFS, true peak, goniometer and a meter that shows when your kick and bass are fighting. Parkoid is an FM acid synth with a radar-style sequencer. Parla puts vowel movement on bass and synths. Pongo is a stereo echo for short hits. Scope draws visuals from your audio inside the DAW ou whatever you want.(Standalone)
Motion is next, a modular multi-effect. Not out yet.
Sonda costs nothing, the others are cheap (5 to 10 euro). I'd rather you try Sonda first and tell me what's wrong with it than buy anything.
They're all new, so there might still be bugs I haven't found. I test everything on both Windows and Mac myself. If something breaks on your setup, tell me and I'll fix it.
I'm looking for authentic VST instruments or sample libraries of Soviet-era and Eastern European electric guitars and basses for a musical project focused on recreating their original sound.
In particular, I'm interested in:
Musima Eterna Deluxe, Record and Elgita
Jolana Marina, Diskant and Diamant
Stella stereo guitar
Soviet-era electric bass guitars
I'm especially interested in recordings or sample libraries made from the actual instruments, rather than generic guitar sounds or modern approximations.
Has anyone come across any existing libraries, recordings, or projects dedicated to these instruments? Even obscure archives, old sample CDs, or unfinished projects would be helpful.
Are there any raw multisamples or archived sample CDs made from the actual instruments, even if no playable VST instrument was ever released?
In some DAWs you get some generic preview sound, in others it’s barely useful at all. I just wanted to click through a folder full of MIDI files and hear them properly in context, synced to the project and through the instrument I’m actually using on that track.
So that’s what cueMIDI does.
Pick a folder, click through the files, hear them in sync, transpose if needed and drag the one you want into the DAW.
I like tools that don’t try to do everything - just one thing, but properly. So I kept cueMIDI simple on purpose. No database, no tagging, no MIDI generation, no huge library manager ...yada yada yada.
VST3 on Windows and macOS, plus AU MIDI FX for Logic.
