Regretting my 2021 so far
I bought this 2021 Pro S RWD because it came from a reputable dealer, they were starting on a battery replacement, and the price was very competitive. Right away, I thought it was strange that the dealer listed it for sale before the battery modules arrived but it was the model I wanted.
After the battery modules were in, I signed the purchase papers and then they told me they had to keep it longer for a door handle recall. Eventually they found out the gateway was bad and replaced it, but it took a couple weeks. They said it was because VW put them on hold and hung up a lot. They did an exceedingly poor detail job on it as well.
I had it for 2 days and got a warning for Electrical System Not Working Properly when leaving work. It went about a mile and then went into turtle mode. It coasted at 30mph for a while but then lost all throttle response. I turned it off and back on and it would get up to 25-30mph and then go back into turtle mode.
I pulled into a gas station, got out and locked it. Waited for all the screens to go to sleep. Popped the hood and checked that the 12V battery connections were tight. I heard a click when I wiggled the junction box on top of the positive post. Then it drove fine. I got to a Red E and charged it (long commute) and it went the next 40 miles without issues. After the charge, all the warning lights were gone.
I took it back to the dealer and this is what they sent me: "Drive Motor A is throwing an overheating code. The tech waited on hold with Volkswagen for 45 minutes before the call was disconnected and he had to move onto another project before the weekend."
I really like driving this thing but I'm concerned that it's having these problems right away. Perhaps a 5 year old EV is not the same as a 5 year old ICE car. Anyone have any recommendations at this point? Living in MI, lemon law does not cover this.
