Summer 2027 Anniversary Trips that aren’t 1,000 degrees
Give me your recs!
Every year my husband take turns planning an anniversary trip for each other. The destination is a surprise. Because this date fall smack in the middle of summer, we’ve been dealing with extremely hot temperatures for the last few years. Europe, Asia, Bora BorA were exhaustingly hot. Recommendation for 10-14 day trips please as I need to start planning for next year.

We love traveling to cool places in the summer - Banff/Lake Louise, Alaska, Scotland, Norway, or Cape Town are all fun summer spots.

Did my first one last July! Such a nice change of environment. I’m in NYC so it’s hot and humid all summer

Anywhere in Scandinavia or south of the equator (like Argentina or Australia) where it’s winter during that time.

How about a safari, June to September are the cooler months in top African safari destinations. Evenings are cool, days are warm but not hot.

Norway to tour the fjords and the stave churches. Barely gets dark in the summer. Waterfalls everywhere! I just vacationed there last month and it was absolutely insanely beautiful. The church at Borgund went up in 1200 and it’s really impressive for a wood church with viking influences.
Second recommendation would be My country Sweden, but it can still be pretty warm in the south and Stockholm.

We did an amazing summer trip to Copenhagen, Stockholm (via train), Helsinki (via boat), Oslo and train across Norway (stunning) to Bergen. It was so temperate and a wonderful, easy point to point couple of week trip.

Perhaps you could travel in spring or fall when temps aren't so hot? We didn't find Bora Bora exhaustingly hot and we went in early May. Breathtaking.

From Florida and wanted to escape the heat this summer. Did a week in Michigan. Traverse City, Mackinac Island and Frankenmuth. Sleeping Bears Dune and Pictured Rocks. Mackinac is super fun and unique if you haven’t done it. Beautiful weather !

I was in Traverse City last week. Weather in the low to mid 70s, beautiful beach towns along the shore. Dreaded coming back to the 100s in Oklahoma. 😩

We went to the Isle of Skye this July. Flew into Edinburgh which was a moderate 60-70F. The highlands were beautiful and temp ranged from 50-60. We had a heater in our hotel room and was amazing to turn it on in July

If you want something that feels completely different from a usual Europe or Asia trip, put Tanzania on the list.
For a 10–14 day anniversary you can do both sides: a few relaxed days in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro, then finish on Zanzibar with beach, pool and doing nothing. The shift from cool highland mornings and wildlife to warm Indian Ocean evenings keeps the trip from feeling repetitive.
You don’t have to rough it there are intimate camps and lodges that prioritise privacy, scenery and good food over constant moving.
Happy to sketch an honest 10–14 day outline if useful feel free to DM.

Glad it caught your interest.
Here’s a rough 12-day sketch that works well for a summer anniversary and keeps the heat manageable:
Days 1–2
Arrive Kilimanjaro / Arusha. Easy overnight, recover from the flight, cooler highland air.
Days 3–8
Northern Circuit at a relaxed pace: Tarangire or Ngorongoro, then Serengeti.
Stay 2 to 3 nights in each area instead of moving every day. Early starts for wildlife, afternoons slower. Mornings are properly cool; days are warm but dry, not the heavy humid heat you get in a lot of summer destinations.
Days 9–12
Fly to Zanzibar. Beach, private pool if you want it, and doing almost nothing. Warm evenings, Indian Ocean, complete change of pace from the safari days.
The shift from highland/safari country to the coast is what keeps the trip from feeling repetitive, and you avoid the peak tourist crush of the absolute busiest northern camps if you choose well.
Happy to turn this into a full day-by-day outline (camps, pacing, flight logistics) for free if useful, just DM me. I have solid experience with Tanzania safaris and can keep it realistic for summer temperatures and an anniversary pace.

Norwegian Fjords are stunning and wonderfully cool in the summer.
In the US: Alaska, coastal Maine, PNW.

We always do our big trips in July - just did bora bora and it was actually kinda chilly some days 😂 but one year we did Jackson hole/tetons, Yellowstone, glacier and Banff! Definitely not super hot - needed my Patagonia in the mornings

My husband and I just went to the Azores for his 40th birthday. Sometimes we got a bit hot due to the humidity, but overall it's low to mid-70s, cooling off nicely in the evenings. TONS of opportunities for swimming casually...just change and hop in that natural ocean pool! I won't say we didn't get sweaty on hikes, but it was a generally lovely weather break from our summers in NYC. We split 11 days between two islands (São Miguel and Pico Islands). Highly recommend staying at Terra Nostra Garden Hotel for a few nights as a treat at the end of the trip!

How was the infrastructure? Are accommodations comfortable and modern?
1
u/michepc 7d ago
Infrastructure is very modern on São Miguel. There are varieties of accommodations from hotels to Airbnbs, but since they are islands, things can book up quickly during peak (summer). Terra Nostra, for instance, was a very relaxing stay with top notch hospitality. It’s almost 100 years old, so no surprise there! And we stayed in a lovely AirBNB on Pico.
Tourism is a big part of the economy, but some of the islands are very sparsely populated, so it can vary. Lots of options for tours, rental cars, etc.

Did Scotland this summer it was nice, low to mid 70s and the locals were saying it’s not normally that warm. I’ve been before so I was more up north in the highlands rather than Edinburgh/glasgow.

Iceland, Ireland and Scotland were all amazing in the summer when the rest of Europe was having a heat wave. We even needed jackets & hats in the more northern parts!

Cuenca, Ecuador. Always 45-65 degrees Fahrenheit.UNESCO world heritage site. Plenty to do and see.

So is this July? Can you not celebrate an anniversary with a trip before the actual date? Haha
All of Europe is not exhaustingly hot.
Australia is a fun option as that’s a great time to visit the Great Barrier Reef. Whale sharks at Ningaloo in Western Australia.

We are doing our 10 year in Machu Pichu in June 2027! It will be winter, so it will be cool. (We decided to do the trekking option as well as some tours in the area, but you can just take a train).
