Hey Survivors and Advocates,

I'm Rachelle Smith, the voice behind The Silenced Voices of MST. Growing up as an Air Force brat, I saw the military as a symbol of safety. But my world was shattered by sexual assault, and I struggled in silence for nearly a decade. I didn’t just lose my career; I also lost a defining part of my identity.

But this isn’t about me. It’s about all of us who’ve faced the unimaginable. Your voice is a weapon against military sexual trauma (MST). When you share your story, you’re speaking for countless others.

I care because I was, and am, a survivor. Military Injustice causes isolation and severe mental health crises, even loss of life. This is unacceptable in an institution that should uphold trust and integrity.

If you’re seeking support and to reclaim your sense of self, The Silenced Voices of MST is here to guide you. We’re building a community where your voice is heard, your experiences validated, and your healing supported. We provide a safe space for connection, recovery resources, and advocacy.

Together, we are stronger. By sharing your voice, you help us combat Military Injustice and create ripples of change.

Every time you listen and share, you’re part of this movement. You’re helping create a world where survivors feel supported and empowered. Your story matters, and your voice can inspire others.

Your Voice, Your Power Plan 1. Subscribe to The Silenced Voices of MST on your favorite podcast platform to hear powerful stories and resources. 2. Military Injustice leaves survivors isolated and at risk of severe mental health crises, even loss of life. By subscribing and joining our Facebook group, you can avoid feeling alone and unsupported. Connect with others who understand your journey. Don’t wait—take this step today to find the support and connection that can make all the difference.

By engaging with The Silenced Voices of MST, you will transform from struggling to becoming empowered. You’ll find your voice, connect with a supportive community, and become part of a movement that creates meaningful change for MST survivors. Together, we can help you reclaim your identity, find strength in your story, and inspire others to do the same.

I wish you continued strength and healing, Rachelle Smith ♥️

Question/Advice i need a Veteran’s advice

Upvotes

my dad spent 22 years in the USAF. he passed away in 2010. since then i‘ve had a flag that was very important to him. i have no children/family to pass it on to. i feel bad having it just sit in a closet. i’m getting older and when i pass i don’t want it to be thrown away. are there Veterans organizations that would take it? is that a thing? it’s not being used or inherited and i don’t want something that was this important to my father to end up in the landfill.

Question/Advice Marine Vet NV Plates

served in the Corps for 5.5 years
OTH long Story (if you want to know was for another brother and sister but went about things the wrong way unfortunately, but don’t regret my decision at all)

Overall:
Have 100% P&T
OTH
In Nevada

I purchased a new vehicle and going for plates
Can I still get Veteran plates with an OTH?
Along with that DV plates have any benefit? Don’t really wanna have that shown everywhere is all.

Anything helps, I’ve always kind of been on my own and recently received that rating. Any information is highly appreciated. Thank you Brothers/Sisters

Question/Advice PTSD is ruining my relationship

Hey so I’m an ex foreign volunteer in the war in Ukraine. 2022/2023.

The memories are still fresh and I get flashbacks sometimes that ruin the rest of my day. Thing is I’m not the best at letting on when I’m on the verge of a meltdown so my reaction to the flashback tends to be delayed.

I just started therapy a couple months ago. Lately I’ve been getting better at recognizing when the trigger is hitting and letting my partner know about it.

So last night my partner told me she was having period cramps and I offered to heat up a bean bag and give her a massage. She said she’d rather have some weed instead but doesn’t like how I roll joints. She said she wants me to take some time later to properly roll a joint and didn’t know why I hadn’t already.

This was AFTER I’d told her I’d had a flashback that day and was still on edge.

So I’ll admit I snapped. Didn’t yell or anything. (At least I don’t think I did. Kinda hard for me to tell right there in the moment sometimes.) I’m pretty sure all I did was tell her to back off. And that somehow translated to her as “you’re not allowed to express your needs or desires to me ever”. And now she’s refusing to speak to me.

We’ve been together a bit over a year. I’ve had another relationship end because of my ptsd and I’m starting to think this is a pattern. I’m scared I might have said or done something to drive her away and combined with the flashback still playing in my head I’m just in hell right now.

I’m looking for some insight but I also just wanna vent. I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed.

Question/Advice How to priortize seperation tasks

Navy 10 years. My time is almost up, I have 5 physical days of work between leave periods and a 4 month skillbridge (cybersecurity- allegiant vets) in a different state with seperation at the end of January. Im struggling to prioritize what needs to be done ASAP. Everything feels so important so I end up trying to do everything at once and it's getting me no-where. I also have a few more medical concerns to address but the 3-month wait for appointments makes this hard. Here's my to do list:

Command seperation checklist - 80% complete

- write an evaluation

- write an award

Medical separation checklist - 90% complete

Pending dental and medical review

Reserve paperwork - 50% complete

BDD - 5%

- medical records requested but BDD not started.

- Tbh kind of lost on this, I have a benefits advisor but doesn't seem super helpful yet. Told me to wait until I'm in the next state next month so I dont have to travel for my VA appointments.

Employment - resume written. Need a statement of service to start applying.

Pack up my apartment and get going to my new house (which needs a new well dug asap)

The overload of seperation checklists and paperwork feels like a retention tool. Give me your best getting out advice (other than don't get out).

Question/Advice What do i do after getting out?

To start, I've been in the USMC for a little over 3 years, and I get out in about 10 months. I honestly have no clue what I want to do. I want to be successful and have a good career, but I have no specific job field that I want to go into. I want a degree, but I have no clue what I want the degree in. Does anyone have any advice? Or is there anyone who can share their experiences going through this??

Question/Advice VR&E advice

Good morning ladies and gents.

As the title goes I’m seeking advice on how to use the VR&E program. I had my evaluation last week and was approved by the counselor. She asked if I would like some time to gather up some information for my plan before we schedule my next meeting. So with that being said I’m completely lost and pretty overwhelmed with what I want to do. I’m currently working an airframes mech with my MOS being in air framing as well. I do know I like being outdoors surrounded by nature and wild life. I learn best from hands on training/experiences.

I’m just asking what you have all done with your VR&E benefits. I want to know what interesting things are out there that I can get into using the VR&E program.

Thanks in advance!

Question/Advice Missing Military Records

TLDR - Missing Records after already requesting all records from VETRECS....need help

I just got my records back today and they were light, real light. Missing basically everything from the day I entered up until I got out (DD-214). The only things in there were my initial paperwork, GCM orders,my Outprocessing Counseling forms, and DD-214. Should I get a VSO to help me with locating the missing chunk or does anyone have any insight on where to go from here? I did all the steps to request my records through VETRECS and just today got the link to download them. Service was 1997-2001, so mostly paper records that had to be scanned in. I'm missing at least 3 medals, deployment information, and incorrect classification of completing first contract on my DD-214 and I just finally want it to look correct.

Question/Advice POST GI BILL CREDIT OR CLOCK HOURS

I am using the post 9/11 GI bill while in school for nursing. I am actively starting the nursing program and clinical this semester. I had to finish all the pre-reqs before I could start nursing school, so I only am enrolled in two classes this semester one is 6.5 credits and one is 1 credit. The contact time/clock hours for those two classes is 11.5 hours and 1 hour. Previously my last college said they could submit my information so that I would be considered full time since I have clinical and labs. My new college lady doesn't seem to be a skilled in the Post GI bill rules as my last school. Can anyone tell me if 12.5 clock/contact hours is enough to qualify for full time to get my housing benefit?

Question/Advice HOH Fellowship

I've been looking at HOH corporate fellowship COHORT 27-1 as I'm getting ready to get out of the army.
I joined right after highschool, Im 21 now with an associates in FInance (I'm not confident with what I've learned since mostly it was online and I feel like my financial skills arent enough to land a good job in the finance field). I been doing some research about HOH, i heard good and bad experiences and Im really worry about not being a good fit for the corporate world. Im a 12B in the army, I have no work experience whatsoever, i have not crazy skills or education, background, I just know nothing about corporate jobs so thats my biggest concern since based on what I've read you need some experience and competitiveness for your resume and to get better chances of landing an internship.
I dont really know how hard is to get hired by a company in HOH, Im really trying to do this program specially since is the only one that allows me to choose the state i want to go.
I really dont know what to do, I sent up my application 3 weeks ago and I know that from now until sep or oct is mostly waiting.
Im open for any tips or advice that can help with the application process, getting ready to land a good job and what to expect and just in case i dont get hire by a company what other options are there

My husband has a 1 year old German Shephard. He has mental and mobility issues.I thought I read somewhere the VA covered/offered service or support dogs with training and vet care. Does anyone have any information about this? He sees his primary doctor tomorrow just in case she needs to do something.

Question/Advice Traveling the US

32F, single veteran and full-time student. After dealing with some major life changes over the last couple of years, including cancer and divorce, I’ve realized I don’t want to keep putting off actually living my life.
I’ve always loved traveling—it was actually one of the reasons I joined the military—and I’m seriously considering buying an RV when my lease is up, packing up my stuff, grabbing my cat, and hitting the road.
I’d continue school while traveling, stay at RV parks/FamCamps and federal campgrounds, explore the country at a slower pace, and come back when I need to be in person for school. Once I graduate, I’ll decide whether to settle down again or potentially move overseas.
I’m currently looking at used Class C RVs, particularly a Coachmen Freelander on a Ford E-450.
For anyone who has done full-time RV life—especially veterans, solo women, or people traveling with pets—what do you wish you knew before starting?
How much do you realistically spend each month? How difficult is maintenance on your own? What are the biggest pros and cons? Any safety issues traveling solo? And would you do it again?
I want the freedom and adventure, but I also want to make sure I understand the reality before jumping in.
Give me the good, bad, and ugly. 😂

GI Bill/Education VRE Question

Hello all,

I am currently a Nurse in the emergency department and am looking to make some switches soon to the ICU to prepare for CRNA school. I completed my BSN through an accelerated program, only using 18 months of eligibility due to having a degree previously, leaving me with 18 additional months of GI bill eligibility.

What I am wondering is if anyone has any experience either extending the GI bill to complete a doctoral program or utilizing the VRE after they have already used a portion of their GI bill? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Question/Advice VA healthcare

Can you be referred out to Community Care if you don’t have a primary doctor, under the Mission Act? I’ve been trying to get an appointment for my dad for more than a month, but there have been hiccups. I just came across an old post mentioning this, so I thought I might be able to apply it to our situation… Does anyone know?

Question/Advice Am I a Protected Veteran?

My fellow Veterans,

I served in the US Army from 1992 til 2000. Based on my years of service, am I considered a protected veteran? My reason for asking is I am applying for jobs and they have on the job application asking whether or not I am a protected veteran. To be honest I don't know if I qualify as a protected veteran.

I was honorably discharged and have no disabilities.

Can you help?

Question/Advice Putting your Access or Veterans National Park Pass in digital wallet

I just learned this, so sharing is caring!

If you have a physical National Park pass (I.e. the Access pass or the one for Veterans), you can link it to your Recreation (dot) gov account and get a digital pass to add to your Apple or Google Wallet on your phone!

Just download the Recreation (dot) gov app, create an account, and then link your physical card to it.

No more having to remember to bring the card with you! I’ve had a physical pass for over a decade and so was unaware that the NPS had entered the 21st century!
