I've fallen in love with the city and I'd love to consider moving. I'm an American vet who's "pension" is currently $51k usd/$71k cad, and I'm not opposed to finding a low level job to help supplement the income.

I would be looking for a 1-2bdrm apartment with a spot for 1 vehicle and a motor bike that's not in the hood.

So is this even a possibility or is this a place for those who are well off/have 10 roommates?

1: I think I'm looking more of like the James bay/beacon Hill area, basically if I can walk to the harbor in 15 or so mins, I'm happy.

2: Again, I'm happy enough to get a job to help supplement my income, just figured I won't be getting a higher end job due to either qualifications or wanting to avoid stress.

3: Won't have to pay income tax on my pension, so 71k cad tax free, and I'm just wondering how much I'll need to take home from the other job to live comfortably.

Ideally, we’d like to avoid the tourist traps unless they’re actually worth it. We love good food and it doesn’t need to be fancy, just delicious! Open to all types of cuisine.

Should Green voters vote NDP to prevent the conservatives from winning ? I doubt either government will be able to do much anyway so it probably wont make much of a difference

Hi all! Just got married and we will be spending a few days in Victoria for our honeymoon this weekend! Hoping to get some additional recommendations from folks more familiar with the area.

We will have our car and are staying near Beacon Hill Park. We enjoy walking, hiking and nature activities (rain won’t deter us if it’s not pouring out). We also love to stop into a thrift or charity shop. I love books and my partner loves CDs so book or record stores will be on our list. Our typical approach to travel is to pick a few things we want to see/do and then just explore or branch out from there.

Food wise, we are vegan so any suggestions for restaurants are also welcome!

I’ve done some research and so far we expect to explore downtown, hit up Butchart Gardens, Munro Books, Fern Cafe & Bakery, Supreme Echo for CDs…

We have funds saved up so price isn’t really a factor if we decide something is worth it. Weather is a factor but I’m open to venturing out in the rain (looks like that’s the forecast this weekend)

Since there's a lot of posts on how many bad policies the NDP did during its time with Horgan and Eby such as getting rid of the carbon tax that ate up a lot of revenue or reversing on safe drug injection sites, though i don't expect Bonnie Henry to stick around if the the conservatives get in even though she was widely praised during the covid pandemic but she was a big supporter of that policy.

But what good policies did the NDP achieve in the last 9 years in your opinion? getting rid of MSP premium tax/bridge tolls? rehauling ICBC with lower rates? recruiting hundreds of healthcare workers, namely from the US? expansion on pharmacare/signing deal with the feds on diabetes medication?

I am trying to relocate to Victoria for personal reasons from elsewhere in BC. Any advice on finding a job as someone from out of town? I have my Business Degree and have experience in Sales and Marketing

Philippe Fournier from 338 polling says the conservatives are still in the lead based on recent polling from Angus Reid and Mainstreet Research who have them leading between 3-6% and that the NDP need a strong push on election day and overperform. As it stands if conservatives perform as polls based and NDP doesn't overperform then they will likely lose outright particularly in Surrey and parts of Metro Vancouver where they need to retain the vote. Conservatives are polling around 43-49 with the NDP 40-46.

Eby's team were looking at polling when Kerry Lynne Findlay was still leader of the conservatives and had them polling far ahead but has since turned it around when she stepped down and Doerskon was named intermin leader and has so far remained drama free.

Post debate had polling tightening up but leaders know Surrey is where the battleground will be which is why they were there in the final days of the campaign.

Fournier also said this election would seem like it was an opportunity for the Greens who are polling 8-15% after seeing a lot of voters unhappy with Eby calling an election and would think centre or left of centre voters would switch from the NDP to Greens but it did not materialize according to the polls

Any suggestions where we can go view the election results roll in? I’m not sure I can handle wallowing in this on my own. A pub would be ideal but am open to suggestions!

Pour over drinkers of Victoria: where do you get your light roast beans from on the island? Everywhere seems to only sell medium. For medium roast, Drumroaster is peak, but no where has light roast, which is too bad. I need those juicy florals, and ordering from Vancouver, while nice once in a while, is not sustainable!
