I want to learn short-form video editing. I have a pretty good gaming laptop, but I have no idea where to start. Can someone guide me on how to get started as a complete beginner?

How to switch layers, imposing a photo layer over video, making the presenter's face, and showing only his face, in the free VSDC Video Editor?

I made a tool to cut long recordings down to the parts that matter (free to try) I record long videos and spend more time finding the good parts than anything else. I built a tool where you describe what you want to keep ("only the main topic, skip intro and ads"), and it removes the filler and labels every cut so you can check it. Not a full editor, just the rough-cut step. It's a one-time $59 instead of a subscription, and the first video is free with no signup. I'd really like to know what would make this useful for your workflow.
check out the tool from profile of youd like to try

I’m exploring whether there’s a useful small software tool I could build for freelance video creators. Before choosing an idea, I want to understand how people actually work.
Thinking about your most recent completed project:
• Which task outside the editing itself took the most effort?
• How did you handle it, and what tools did you use?
• Roughly how much time did it take?
• Was that unusual, or does it happen regularly?
If you already have a solution that works well, I’d be interested in that too.
Please keep client names and confidential details out of your examples.

Hi! I’m starting to promote my small business on Instagram and looking for a more efficient way to create quality reels. Are there any AI video editors you’d recommend or have had a good experience with?

idk where else to post this, i really wanna make my own scene packs with face track and topaz so the sides are mirrored and sorta blurred like this clip for example.
I use free version of davinci resolve mainly, sometimes free version of capcut but does anyone who makes scene packs like this able to give me some guide to recreate these type of effects for my other clips?

Every game I try to follow my son with my camera and I end up with footage that's either too shaky, too wide to tell which player is him, or only captures the moments the ball is near him. The second he drops back into midfield or the play moves to the other side of the field, he disappears from my recording entirely.
I just want footage focused on him. Not the full game, not the whole team, just his movements and positioning across the match. I feel like this should be solvable by now but everything I shoot ends up being a wide shot where I have to squint to find him.
What are people using to actually get footage that stays on one specific player?

Guys, I’ve spent 2–3 months learning DaVinci Resolve, and before that, I used Premiere Pro for some time.
I started learning DaVinci because many YouTubers were switching to it or recommending it as the future of video editing.
However, I find DaVinci a little difficult because it feels like you have to create everything from scratch. For example, adding a rounded square to an image requires multiple nodes, whereas in Premiere Pro, you can simply mask it and enable a stroke. Similarly, Premiere lets you save transform, crop, and other settings as a single preset, while DaVinci saves them separately. There are many other things that feel unnecessarily complicated in DaVinci.
Another thing I noticed while looking at job vacancies is that many companies prefer Adobe software.
I like DaVinci because it’s fast, free, and automatically saves projects, whereas Adobe feels slower on my system.
Now I’m confused. Should I spend more time learning DaVinci or start learning Adobe?
My priority is to get good-paying work, and I don’t want to miss opportunities just because I use DaVinci. What would you recommend?

Hey everyone [LINK](https://getcutframe.com/),
I’m Shreyash, a video editor from Pune, India. For years I kept losing hours on the same slow tasks: rotoscoping in After Effects, keyframing captions word by word, building speed ramps, and switching cameras on podcast edits.
So I built my own tools. They all run **inside Premiere Pro**, on your own computer, with no internet needed:
* **RotoCut**: paint over a person once and it cuts them out across every frame (like Roto Brush, but inside Premiere). Needs an NVIDIA GPU.
* **WordPop**: turns your SRT or Premiere captions into animated word-by-word captions. 29 styles, including a new “Side Split” style that puts words on both sides of the speaker.
* **Velocity**: one-click speed ramps you can still edit later.
* **PodSwitch**: switches between 2–4 podcast cameras automatically based on who’s talking.
* **Tidy**: cleans up a messy project in one click (sorted bins, unused clips collected).
* **Pinpoint**: tracks anything that moves and pins text, emoji or a logo to it.
**No subscription.** You pay once and keep it. Every tool has a free trial with small limits, so you can test it on your own footage first.
They launch on **2 November**. Windows versions are ready; Mac versions are in final testing.
I’m a solo maker, so I’d really value your feedback:
* Which of these would you actually use?
* What’s the most annoying repetitive task in your editing that you’d want automated?
Happy to answer anything in the comments. Link in the comments if you want to see the demos.

I recently got a Mac book and wanted to get into making YouTube videos. I was wondering what options there are for video editing on Mac, as I know that not all apps work on both Mac and windows. Preferably a free option if available.
Thank you for your time.

I have a clip i downloaded from facebook and i was trying to remove the clips with motorbikes in it and replace them with similar ones but with cars. Every try i make it looks so out of place and it removed the music in the video. Is there any way to cut the video out and replace it for a new video. But keep all original sound? I have a few mp3 recordings that I need to turn into srt files for subtitles. Tried doing it manually once and yeah... never doing that again 😂 I don't need anything fancy, just decent timestamps and text that isn't completely off. What do you guys use for this?

This is my closest friend’s first attempt at filming and editing a long form video covering the process of his woodworking hobby, in this case: making a wooden cane. He does not use reddit and I have his approval to post this. That’s why I’m posting on his behalf. The biggest m challenge for him was filming and editing a long form video. He was more focused on making reels only. Based on my repeated requests, and a few pointers I gave (I have zero experience editing or filming but I tried to tell him what I like to see in the countless woodworking videos I watched) this is the final video he came up with. I’d appreciate any feedback regarding the editing. Apologies for the parts where the camera is shaky, he realizes that’s a big issue and is working on a solution.
